We stayed for a wedding in Godmanchester and thought a country hotel, lovely, let's stay there for the night it's likely to have character and we weren't wrong. When we arrived just after 11 am they said we couldn't book in for another hour, but we mentioned that we needed to change for a wedding. A room became available that hadn't been used. The room we stayed in was quirky and characterful, but the whole place was dated and very tired. Its under new management, but they'll need to work hard to sort this place out. The shower in the room squirted out such a powerful but concentrated jet of water that you could only nip under quickly as the pressure was crazy. The loo didn't flush properly and the taps were stiff. Lighting in the room was poor. The next day at breakfast was interesting. The place setting for us at breakfast was so close to another table we were close to sitting on their knees. I moved one setting to the other side of the table and was told by the the only member of staff on who was serving and cooking breakfast... I wouldn't sit there if I was you. We asked if we could sit somewhere else and she said if you like and left us to move everything. Again this was fun as everything was stuck to the table! We peeled it off and started to move it. She the said of you know what you want I may as well take your order now! I asked if they did poached eggs, but she said not on a Sunday. I'm glad they didn't as i had a fried egg, but it was completely mullered! If you out anything on the table it stuck to it... You know like bars when they are very tacky. So, overall the place had character, but not the sort you want. Its a shame as there is potential, but I'd rate this 2 star and in need of a lot of work. Not just the decor, but the service and lot of things can be forgiven or overlooked, but mullering a fry up - unforgivable! I'm still also wondering what was in the sausage. Worst breakfast I have had in many years.

The atmosphere was what I was expecting/looking for in a place like this and the food was decent. Watch out for the back door though, it sticks. :)

Visited for a bite to eat. Service was friendly with good menu selection and good beers on offer. The food itself was tasty and not too expensive. Will visit again.

April 2017 was the final month of nearly 14 months of staying at the Stukley country hotel. Need I say more? The Staff and Mangement, that is Claire, Diane, Russell, Trevor & Rachel all made me feel very much at home and pretty much one of the family and a friend, and if that wasn't enough I was very quickly welcomed by the regular and local patrons to the pub (they know who they are), making my 14 months stay, during the week and away from my family and friends back home, a VERY pleasant and enjoyable one. The Breakfast and evening meals were in my oppinion excellent, setting me up for the days work ahead and feeding me well afterwards. The room I stayed in was always well kept and cleaned daily and the service at the bar always a welcoming one with a laugh and a joke. Yes I would stay again and happily recommend it. Thank you all the Stukley Country hotel.

Meal out with the in laws as they were in the area, arrived Saturday evening - the football was on TV so it was quiet in the bar. was a little chilly in the area where we were sat but just nudged my coat around me and was fine. Menu is varied and lots of choices to tempt me, I opted for the gammon steak with eggs ( pineapple as alternative) and when it arrived it was massive - very tasty, served with chips peas, mushroom and tomato ( they got shipped off to other halves plate!) between us we had a mixed grill a rump steak and chicken tikka kebabs - empty plates all round is proof that all were good and tasty! We opted for desserts but all were a little disappointed that these seemed to be pre-made bought in rather than home made - a decent dessert wins hands down for me and has prompted many a return visit to other venues - not saying they were horrible just a little disappointing compared to the tasty meals we had! Including drinks meals and desserts bill came to just under £75.00 ....can't complain at the prices!

I came here to eat last friday, decided to treat myself to the steak. Absolutely wonderful, best steak I've eaten in a while and the peppercorn sauce was perfect. Staff were very helpful, my dad had the gammon steak and really enjoyed that. My boyfriend had a burger which wasn't the best he's ever had but he's very fussy over everything. Over all, really good.

Went here with some friends for Sunday lunch. The food was awful - the worst we have ever eaten. We were starving and so some of us consumed part of the meal and one asked for another meal was equally as awful. We politely provided feedback which was listened to but no action taken, and no goodwill gesture offered. Our advice would be to go elsewhere.

Went to the Stukeley Country Hotel for Sunday lunch yesterday. We paid £22 for two meals and two drinks. For what we received, it was really good value. Plenty already on the plate before the vegetables turned up! A brilliant option if you don't want to cook or wash up on a Sunday. Highly recommend it.

One visit was enough, as the pub is dark and inhospitable - and the staff no better! There are many excellent restaurants and pubs in the local area, so please don't waste your time & money in this one!

We were staying in Grt Stukely for the weekend at my brothers and as we eat out every Sunday decided to go there. It is a pleasant enough place, parking is easy and we sat in the bar. Its not overly busy so perhaps that says it all. Outside it clearly says Sunday lunches from £7.95. thats fine and we had a table booked. We had our lunch we were offered two choices of roast beef or lamb. Inside it says Sunday roast from £8.25 so already the price is different from outside and I think misleading. The lunch came, it was ok , on small plates with an adequate amount of veg, nothing spectacular. the meat was very good. We had a pint of beer and a lime and soda ( pepsi was off as they had a problem with it). The bill came to £24.50. When we got home we telephoned and queried the price. I feel that was very expensive for what we actually got which was an ok dinner. The price is right, apparently beef is £8.25 and lamb almost £12.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. My husband and I both questioned that, way too expensive and totally misleading in the price. Apparently the £7.95 is the vegetarian option, Sunday roast for veggies, nows there is a first. Apparently the price of the lamb is advetised on another of their boards and not outside or the one we looked at. How many priced boards are there. They stuck to their guns but I felt it was overpriced and totally misleading in the advertising although they said different. Even the waitress made no reference to the difference in price of the lamb and beef, not difficult but I suppose they wouldn't then sell any lamb. Eat somewhere else that is much more reasonable , better quality and basically you know what you're paying before you go. Trading standards have a field day because the customer is always right. Unfortunately even speaking to the staff made no difference they said its always been that way with no complaints, perhaps thats why it was almost empty at 1pm on a Sunday.

This is the worst hotel I have ever been in.The room smelt of bad eggs and the toilet was filthy. It was above the bar and conversations below could be heard clearly. We were not given a key to the outside door, and when we returned after visiting friends (before midnight) we found ourselves locked out.No-one answered the door or the phone, so presumably there were no staff around at all.We ended up sleeping in our car but were still charged for the room.Keep clear!

This is a typical English country pub, great food, great prices with real English beer. This is not an easy place to find but it is worth finding, very quiet and very peaceful with good service.

Very close to the base and had a great selection of beers. The bartender allowed me to sample a couple of the brews I had never had before. The locals were friendly and very accomodating. Once we had a couple of rounds, we ate and the food was great! Definitely would go back again.

I have eaten in the Stukeleys on many occasions and always found the food and service to be very good. It is a very friendly place to eat and drink. In fact it was one of the reasons I moved to Great Stukeley. I live within easy walking distance so I often visit for a drink.I have read the review by BillyButterball and can only presume he visited at an extremely unfortunate time becaus I can assure you that it is normally a great place to visit.

We were booked into the Stukeley Hotel for a lunch on Sat. There was 12 of us in the party and when we arrived 15 minutes before our booked time i discovered a bar with a number of elderly gentleman in who took great pleasure in informing me that the barman who was nowhere to be seen and that he was busy also booking in and checking out guests and also serving the tables. So they had at this time one member of staff for all three areas. After 10 mins the member of staff arrived and asked if we would mind sitting in the main bar because he had to do all the jobs and this would make his life some what easier. I declined this offer as we had booked for a birthday party and did not wish to sit a three seperate tables. The one member of staff reluctingly took us through into the main dinning room, were he then asked a party of 4 already eating if they would move so they could accomodate us. This made me feel as if this was our fault for them having to move. The meal in its self was totally inadequate with the order's being confused, then to crown it, we ordered some drinks and in walked a woman who worked there, but apparently was on a day off. For no apparent reason she then launched into a tirade of abuse directed at some of our party. She was that bad that the other party who had been disturbed earlier at this point got up and walked out. We soon speedily followed, I spent over 200 pound at this hotel on food and drink only to be totally put off by the whole experience. Never again will I darken their door.

I like this place albeit one little issue is I always get the same middle aged barmaid with grey hair hanging in her eyes ..you need a barmaid refurb definitely not a Brucey bonus one should be leaving the bar work to younger pretty girls a hot blooded man wants to see please.

We came for a late lunch as we were in the area. The entrance area is welcoming and looks inviting. It was Halloween and there were fun pumpkins and flowers on the outside tables and later lanterns were lit. The bar area is cosy and warm,’gently’ lit and charming. This hotel has a really nice feel to it. We instantly felt comfortable and relaxed and the lovely young staff were on point at the start. I asked for a condiment and it didn’t come so had to ask again and for one or two other things. All staff are willing but it became a little bit disjointed and incoherent. I didn’t see anyone keeping them focussed and this could be slightly better. Our food was excellent. We loved it all and the wines are also good. All in all very nice experience and we are looking forward to coming back.
