Stayed over for night ... thank goodness! Bed had sheet of plywood screwed on top of base, pillows way past their sell by date as they were solid and very uncomfortable, black mould on bathroom walls, tv remote not working, but the evening meal was nice. Breakfast food was good quality but to improve it in my opinion would be having it warmer and warm plates too, also leave off with pepper on everything. ON A PLUS note, all the staff were happy and obliging.

Not our first choice for dining. But thought hey ho let’s give it a go The staff were clearly rushed off their feet resulting in slow and poor service. Staff were walking past the table several times while we waited for our main course and did not ask if we wanted a refill. I must have counted a dozen times walking past. The menu is basic while reasonably priced food some of the descriptions included are questionable. The dirty chips is supposed to have pulled beef. Not a chilli con carne mince. The starter was bland. There was no salt on the tables we had to look round to find some and then we were asked by another table to ‘borrow’ the salt. Waited a good while between finishing the starter for the main course. The saving grace for the main course - it was hot throughout the meal. The plates were piping hot. Ordered a side of greens to be presented with a bowl of cabbage and leeks drenched in garlic butter which for £3.50 is a bit disappointing . I know I’m fussy with chips but the chunky chips were not bad. Mustard is in sachets rather than a small bowl - not the end of the world realise a gastropub but attention to detail in a ‘restaurant’ Attention to detail I think a little more attention to detail

Staff lovely. Rooms would not pass four in a bed scrutiny. Bed ok. Pillows need replacing. Sheets clean. Poor night sleep. Decor needs fixing. Bathroom needs redecorating and grouting. Noisy at night, banging door or something. Creaky floors and stairs, quaint though, old building. Need to check bulbs working. Didn't eat breakfast or dinner so cannot comment on the food. Attention to detail means a lot. Lack of plug socket next to bed.

I probably wouldn't recommend the Strawberry Bank to anyone to have their wedding here. Although the evening was fine - we did enjoy ourselves (more so to do with our family and friends). The room was very hot, lots of air con complaints. The food was lovely, but they took it away early when there was still food left. The bar staff didn't really have an idea, my dad asked for a malibu to be told they didn't have any when it was right behind the bar. The noise level was higher than expected too, my grandparents hearing aids were set off and I struggled to mingle/welcome/thank guests as it was just that tiny bit too loud - and I am not normally one to complain about loud music. However, the lead up to our event was appalling. We booked around November 2022 for July 2024. As we were getting married in Cyprus with a small number of family we wanted a party at home so everyone could celebrate with us, but it was still going to be the formalities of a evening wedding reception. I was told at this time I would be contacted 6 months prior to the event for 50% of the balance and to discuss finer details. 6 months prior to the event and we were not contacted, we ended up going into the Strawbery bank to just pay the full balance. (£2464 for 5 piece buffet for 120 guests, DJ and room hire). It then got to 3 months before the event and I hadn't heard anything to discuss the details, so I emailed to chase and a meeting was arranged. We went for a meeting in April and discussed finer details, we were told we would be sent the buffet options to choose from, never received, I had to chase this 4 weeks before the event. We decided on 8 tables with 80 chairs at the time and then emailed to change this to 7 tables 70 chairs (£175) but the notes were not updated. We then chose 100 welcome drinks at £6pp for peroni/prosecco. We also chose late bar for another £100. So a further £875 spent with them after having to chase for communication. The final balance was due 1 month prior to event. We were also told we would have 20 rooms aside at a discounted rate for friends & family. When couples started to call to book they were told they had no record of our wedding so it took me to email to resolve. Standard room with discount was £80 including breakfast, but you could book on booking.com for £65 without breakfast so not sure what the discount was?? Again, following from the meeting in April I had not heard anything regarding the final balance so it came to fathers day weekend 1 month approx before the event so I booked a Sunday lunch here and we were going to pay the remaining balance, I had emailed to ask if the lady in events was around and heard nothing. I then had to send a chasing email and finally received a response advising I now couldn't pay on the day of event (the next time we would be at the strawberry bank because of plans) so would have to pay over the phone. I still wonder if I hadn't of chased would I have even been contacted? The week of the wedding I also didn't hear a thing, no email to communicate if we needed anything or to be updated about when we could enter the function room or bridal suite for hair and makeup. Not a peep. You get more communication from social clubs. Overall, I would say do not bother having a function here, they do not communicate with you unless chased, its quite pricey for the lack of communication considering it was a wedding party, and they are clearly more bothered about the money than how the event goes.

Unfortunately we had a disappointing experience trying to order two vegan meals. We both ordered the 'stilton and mushroom vegan wellington'. My partner asked if this will include a Yorkshire pudding and was assured it didn't as this would not make the meal vegan. We waited nearly an hour for the meals to come out on a pretty quiet Sunday and when they arrived, both meals included a Yorkshire pudding. When we queried this we were told that this was a vegetarian meal and not vegan and the menu 'had a typo'. This is obviously quite a serious mistake and it's lucky that being vegan is our choice rather than due to a serious health condition. We left without eating and had to ask for an orange and lemonade to be compensated for our experience instead of this being offered. Our waiter was very young and extremely apologetic but it felt like they were unnecessarily putting the responsibility of this situation onto him without further support from the kitchen or management. We decided to go to the Bull's Head opposite who provided plenty of vegan options. I would encourage you to change the menu so others don't have this experience. If the circumstances were different, it could have made us very ill if we hadn't have queried it.

I met up with family for Sunday lunch. Lovely restaurant with a family atmosphere, the staff were attentive and friendly. Different people have different standards, the people I was with kept saying how great the food was. Good manners prevented me from embarrassing them. The food was luke warm, a very small bowl of green beans and cabbage was placed on the table after the main plates? It wasn't enough for 3 people but we had no idea who it was intended for. The staff raised it to 3 stars but the food deserves only 2 stars.

Average and over priced for the quality of the bathrooms. Whole place had a musty smell about it. Rooms especially the bathrooms need updating. Hair dryers are available from reception. Cannot check in until check in time so don’t arrive early. Shower was scolding hot as the mixer tap was broken. The skirt for the shower tray missing and broken. Rusty soap dish. Bedrooms were ok we overlooked the garden area which was very tended and beautiful.

We arrived as a group for business taking 7 rooms for 3 days. Every room had cobwebs and mould in the bathroom and I don’t mean a small amount, the shower didn’t drain properly so had smelly standing water in there, the mattresses were the most uncomfortable I have ever slept on. Pillows were wafer thin. Our room looked out on to a beer garden on the ground floor with no net curtains so we had to keep the curtains shut or everyone from the beer garden could see straight in the room, the lighting was rubbish in the room. The curtains were useless, paper thin so as soon as the sun came up around 3am it was pure daylight in the room. Middle of a heatwave so when beer garden closed at 11pm we could finally open the curtains and doors onto the garden (no window) no air con or fans at this hotel. Gardener then watered the plants outside our room every morning at 7am whilst talking (shouting) to someone else. The field of sheep next door never stopped bleating all night. The WiFi is pretty much non existent. Had to cancel some zoom meetings. One friend had a smelly visitor in her toilet upon check in. One got locked out of his room for 2 hours when his card stopped working and there system wouldn’t re load to fix it. (Same happened to another friend the next night) When checking in and paying with a card double payments were taken from 3 of us. This place certainly give faulty towers a new meaning. It could be lovely but has been neglected over the years and I would not stay here again. The only plus is the lovely staff who I felt sorry for for working here.

Left it a few weeks before posting a review to see if my promised refund would matrerise, it has not and all contact is totally ignored. This was one of the worst places I have ever stayed in. First problem was trying to dodge the painters they had in trying to do the cheapest patch up job they could. Instead of closing down maybe one part of the hotel get that redorated and move on, they except to keep the hotel fully open and juggle customers around accordingly, this results in not only a awfully strong smell of paint everywhere but also paint all over your clothes in you dare to touch one of the bannisters or walls whilst trying to get to your room. Then we had the problem with the hot water that was first reported mid afternoon and then repeatedly being told " it will be on in an hour or so " never ever came back on so no showers or hot wash unless you boiled the kettle. Rooms are basic but OK, although I would imagine that the tiny wall heater would struggle to keep you warm on a cold night Wi-fi more or less no existant. The bar seemed to have a group in the corner who would be served at all cost first and it was just as well as it is very expensive. The only part of our our experience was the reception staff who despite fighting a losing battle with all the people complaining about the above issues especially the hot water, which was more or less throughout the hotel manged to remain polite and friendly. Also if you want a decent meal at a decent price have a wander up to the Indian restaurant at the green, much more reasonable than the prices here. And to finish whenever I book a room I not only look at the reviews but also the response to issues from the owners, if you read here there a many bad reviews but as far as I am aware they can not be bothered to respond to any, and I think that sums this place up. Not recommend at all.

Stayed here recently.. Hotel, Restaurant and bar are ok but all have problems.. Hotel had strong smell of fresh paint throughout, but despite this our room was dated with torn wallpaper and scuffed walls.. On that - the walls were very thin. You can quite clearly hear people above and next door watching TV, making phone calls, going to the toilet.. which is fun if it's at the same time.. 😳 Restaurant food was good but not great, we all had the steak which was overdone - mine was accompanied by nine chips for twenty five quid but it was tasty. Afraid we won't be coming back - but if you need somewhere to stay (in and around the area) then this is ok and will do the job.. Just don't have too many expectations.. Must finish this by saying that the staff seemed really friendly and helpful..

When you rate a hotel, you don't give five stars because it's a five star hotel. You give five stars because from the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a friendly face. Because it's clear that anything you need will be dealt with. Because it's really close to the places you want to visit. And because you got value for money. This was the Strawberry Bank Hotel. The rooms don't match the highest spec of some larger chains, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good. The best thing was the space in the room. Too often are hotel rooms cramped, squeezing everything into a box room. The room was equipped with a wardrobe (and not just a bar from the wall), toiletries and the softest towels I've felt in a long time. I would 100% stay here again.

The issue I have had is that one of the staff opened my door and walked straight in. There was no knock, no announcement. Luckily, I was laid on the bed at the time just watching TV, but I could have been doing absolutely anything in my own time. I would usually let this slide as a genuine mistake, but about an hour and a half before hand, I had somebody knock on my door to ask if I wanted my room cleaned, which I declined. This is very poor if you ask me.

Why we didn't get this room in the first place I don't understand they really all need to refurbish it and updating Wi-Fi is terrible. Photos only show the new part of the restaurant area and bar which are very nice some of the rooms have been updated I think they all need to be brought into the 21st century. I am very disappointed to be sharing this review. My family and I are regular clients of the strawberry bank. However, our last two experiences have left a lot to be desired. Before Christmas we went for a meal and my husband’s meal was forgotten, meaning he had to eat after us. This wasn’t so much of a problem, after all mistakes happen. However, today I went with my daughter for a late lunch, something we have done before, and was very disappointed. As a coeliac, I have eaten there before with no issue. I ordered a meal as usual marked as non-gluten containing ingredients from the menu. However, I was informed that the chef was not prepared to cook the meal I had chosen today, as he could not guarantee it would be gluten-free. Rather confused, I asked if the gammon was okay to which I was told yes. Imagine my surprise when a plate was put in front of me containing just a piece of gammon with a few mushrooms and a side plate of lettuce leaves. Apparently the chef had also said he would not cook chips are they might not be gluten-free. I could have been offered a jacket potato, I could have been offered oven baked chips. However, I can only assume that due to the restaurant being quiet post Christmas, the kitchen either could not be bothered to or wasn’t prepared to cater for people like myself with coeliac disease. I do hope that this isn’t a sign of things to come, otherwise my family and I will be looking for a new regular place to eat .

Take a trip to the Weimar Republic with a visit to this odd hotel! During hyper inflationary 1930s Germany, menus were adjusted by the hour, and this seems to have happened here. We were charged £5.30 for a pint of guinness and prices for various other drinks, but then discovered on the menu on our table that the price was £4.80. I brought this to the attention of the youthful barman and his equally young manager, and the lad found a menu which said - 'On here it's £4.90 not £4.80' as if that vindicated him. The conversation then continued: Me - 'Yes, but you charged me £5.30.' Him 'Ah.' Me 'It's illegal to charge a different price from the menu.' Him 'Is it?' Another waiter then found several menus with varying prices. Then my wife saw the price list pinned to the wall on which a FOURTH set of prices were displayed. We eventually got a refund to match the lowest advertised price, but in many years of travelling I've never seen so many different price lists running simultaneously.

No WiFi, ceiling had such a steep slope that I hit my head on it every time I used the bathroom and shower. If you book there, ask about getting a room without a sloped ceiling. Breakfast supposedly starts at 7am, but if you go then there is no service. Other than that, not bad.

Run down and very tired decor. Stated there was free WiFi but we had to walk to reception to get any connection. Shower head broken and so was toilet seat. The only good things were reception staff were friendly and the hotel was close to NEC

I have lived in meriden for a year and I have had Sunday dinner here and the bulls head. This is so much better than the bulls head. At the bulls head you get finely sliced beef very much like weatherspoons food,,but at the strawberry real sliced beef from a joint and lovely surroundings and staff to.

I had a wonderful stay at the Strawberry Bank Hotel in Coventry! The views from my room were absolutely stunning, providing a picturesque backdrop for my entire visit. The back patio was a hidden gem, offering a peaceful oasis where I could unwind and enjoy the fresh air. What truly made my stay exceptional, though, was the attentive and friendly staff. They went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and made me feel like a valued guest throughout my stay. I can't wait to return to this charming hotel!

Good location for the NEC. Very obliging waiting on staff in the restaurant (reservation is recommended) but the food was mediocre. Breakfast adequate. Room tired and I had a lumpy, uncomfortable mattress.

The walls are too thin you can hear your neighbour. One morning I woke up at 6am because the person keept snoozing his alarm. I even used an earplug but could hear it properly. Or if somebody goes to the toilet you can clearly hear almost everything.

Wow what can I say really, had our wedding here yesterday 22/7/23 and the day was perfect. (Because of external companies supplying and decorating) The rest of the stay with strawberry bank was a nightmare. Only can describe the place as a dilapidated hell hole, a clear polished turd. To say this place is not only falling down but is in an unsafe state to be rented out. Management on site clearly have no care to rectify and problems brought to their attention. Blocked shower, no working plugs, every toilet seat that our 10/15 guests had was loose or fell off and one of the toilets actually wasn’t fastened to the floor. Leaks all in the corridors, severe damp in every walk way, room and entrance. Wallpaper peeling off, bath panels missing or broken, cousin held onto the hand rail in bathtub and fell off. Chair leg had snapped and chair balanced back together. The list is endless. All pictures taken and will be forwarded to the proper channels and I will expose these for what they are…. No apologise given and we was just told it’s above their head. Seriously think twice about parting with your money with this place.

Fantastic friendly hotel near Birmingham airport and great value for money. The food on the restaurant was truly superb. I had the fish pakora starter with a lemon and dill aioli and was the nicest starter I can remember! Thank you- will stay again if in the area!

Lovely pub but the rooms are super basic. Come here for a good time not a long time. They do a wicked club sandwich and the garden is lovely to sit out in. This had the opposite kind of feel the ‘other pub across the road’ but that’s nice contrast.

Would give a zero if it allowed. The when did we go, should read when were we booked. Arrived at the time we stated for our meal, to be told we had no booking, the app deposit/pay wasn't working correctly, email explaining was sent we were told it wasn't received although we had proof of it being sent and as it didn't bounce back we obviously had the correct email address. We showed the staff the problem with the app but really seemed not to care, they were most unhelpful and said it was all our fault. We then stood in the carpark ringing around various restaurants to be asked what we were doing, to our surprise they replied their booking had also not been received. Luckily we did see the funny side.

8 of us went for Sunday dinner today for Father’s Day, the food was absolutely beautiful but the service was quite slow and disappointing. A few of the staff seemed like they didn’t want to be there or provide good customer service. The restaurant is also very dark which felt a bit strange. I would return based on the standard of food and hope the service is better in future.

We went for breakfast and it was really rubbish. I ordered eggs Benedict. What I got was a bap (not a toasted muffin) cut in half with a piece of bacon on each side. On half I got an overcooked egg, on the other side all I got was boiled egg white with no yolk. To try and cover it all up, hollandaise sauce was slathered all over the place. We ordered kids toast with Nutella. Weirdly the toast came with margarine on and then a pot of Nutella as well. My husband ordered the full English. Super greasy and bits burnt. All in all, won’t be going back and was absolutely not worth the money. Would avoid like the plague!
