Greswolde Arms Hotel in Solihull

My wife and I went to the Knowle Male Voice Choir annual dinner on Saturday 1st February. We were not aware that the Greswolde is in the same group as the Kings Arms in Knowle and the Drum and Monkey in Dorridge. We had our Christmas lunch at the Kings Arms in 2023. We go to the Drum regularly and find it very good. On this occasion we had the celebration menu of which the starters were reasonable and the puddings OK but not what my wife had ordered. My main event - roast beef rump - tasted OK, although the amount of meat was very sparse and was cold. But my wife who had the grilled sea bass said it was the very worst meal she had ever had anywhere. The very small amount of fish was overcooked to the extent that it was stuck to the skin of the fish and almost impossible to remove. To top it all off, at the end of the meal when the waitress came to clear away she piled the used plates from the two diners either side of me on to my used plate so I had a pile of five used plates in a stack in front of me before she removed them. I couldn't help thinking some training was necessary. You may well say we should have complained at the time and had we been there on our own we certainly would have done but, as I am sure you will be aware, it is more difficult when it is a party booking I should add that we are not 'professional complainers' and do not expect perfection but at the £30.00 a head I believe we should have had a much more pleasant experience.

I stayed at the Greswolde Arms, as I do every 6-8 weeks, because it is a convenient base for visiting my elderly father who lives in a local care home. I like it because it is clean and comfortable, I feel safe there and the breakfasts are excellent.

First time staying at the hotel, big thank you to Hayden and Sam for making our stay even better. Plus all Staff were really welcoming, will definitely be returning back and recommending to others.

Served by Bruna who was very attentive. Chicken strips could have been a little warmer.

Service was awful , staff didn’t look they wanted to be there , stood at the bar for ages to wait to be served a drink with no one else even stood at the bar. Staff all walking around like they didn’t know what they were doing. Food was luke warm , dry and tasteless. Don’t waste your money

Have to say been here many times and always hoped for better each time. BUT...today we dropped in for a coffee and a soft drink. The lady behind the counter was exceptional. Lee and his team going in the right direction. Even had a holla of a thank you as we left. Appreciated 🙏🏻. Good luck guys, keep it up.

Went for Sunday lunch today 12/1/25 the food was so lovely , the only complaint is that the waiter spilt my partners soup all over my new jacket that was on the chair , he was very sorry and it was an accident he got some paper towels to wipe it, I was more annoyed by the attitude of the lady that must have been in charge she didn’t offer anything for the inconvenience , and when we got up to leave eventually , she never even apologised to me , I think she needs some customer service training 🤔

Lovely and lovely staff friendly great service very helpful with gluten free options ... Runa that served us at knowle was helpful . Our only thing was both meals were only like warm .. some sections were cold..we didn't complain though

We chose a chef & brewer as I'd received a special offer email. Unfortunately the staff knew nothing about the special offer and the code when scanned didn't provide the discount advertised on the email. We decided to continue with the food order we'd placed. The lamb shank cottage pie was tasty. The squash parcel was OK, it was a pie rather than a parcel and the hasselback potatoes were more like a sliced boiled potato, but it was still an OK meal. The staff were helpful and friendly and the pub was clean and welcoming. We would return.

The Greswolde is faultless. Great rooms at reasonable rates, great staff and super food and bar. Stayed here extensively over the last few months and every visit is perfect from the personal note in your room on arrival to the well stocked bar. Highly recommended.

Food was amazing. Staff were amazing. Atmosphere was lovely. From a fellow Greene king employee it was absolutely lovely in there. Would 10000% recommend.

Hotel and room was clean and very well designed (hairdryer could be used with mirror accessible at the same time. The receptionist was great; friendly and informative upon arrival. The restaurant was clean, good selection of food and service was good

Certainly better than when I last reviewed it a couple of years ago. Food is way better, especially the breakfasts and the rooms are spacious and comfortable, accessing some of them does require a route march and some staircases. The three cask ales served at the bar were grim when I was last here about a month ago, one had obviously finished, stank of vinegar but the bar staff were still serving it, the second was offered and that had gone too, so I opted for the final one only to be told, despite there being a pump clip attached, that it "wasn't on". Breakfast seemed a bit hit and miss, there were only 5 or 6 in the dining room and I only wanted bacon, fried, egg, mushrooms and toast which I waited ten minutes to order and then 15 minutes to arrive. All in all a reasonable experience which was £135 for one night's stay which did include the breakfast.

Went for lunch with my friend and nephew was welcomed in to the bar area by Lee who was very helpful and pleasant, We then got served by Haydn who came over very friendly and helpful and also checked on us during are meal.will definitely be going back, clean and tidy pub.

Lovely lunch with friends. Atmosphere was really relaxed. Resturant was really busy but that didn't effect our lunch. Service was excellent. Our waiter was really friendly but not over the top. It was a difficult stay for me, the room was quite small but clean and functional. The Pub was well appointed and the food excellent. What spoiled it for me was the frostiness of the staff not overtly aggressive just a sense that customers would get service but just enough; no one went that extra bit further with a smile or a quip maybe they were just too busy. To cap it off someone used our room to buy some drinks. We let it ride it was only two drinks but it just added to the bitter atmosphere, a shame as we had great company. So beware residents.

Me and my family came here for a meal to celebrate my son’s 2nd birthday and none of us knew what to expect as we’d never been. It was amazing! We all loved the food and some of us struggled to decide as it sounded amazing. The service was amazing as well, Gia was so lovely and made sure our table had everything we needed. A wonderful stay with spacious rooms and good food - loved the salmon wellington and we were looked after very well by Samantha and Faye.

Came here for lunch with family. Chose it as it was dog friendly, had a car park for the campervan and had good choice of gluten-free options. We loved that they had a doggy station, with blankets and treats and water bowl for the dogs, just inside the entrance. There was a good choice of food overall and we all enjoyed what we ate. The only negative was that they seemed to be very short-staffed, with the staff that were on duty working hard to serve as fast as they could, but they could only do so much - and this was with it being fairly quiet. We would come back if visiting the area again due to it being dog friendly, having a car park i can park the campervan in and a good choice of gluten free food to eat.

Stayed here on Sunday 6th October as visiting my daughter and her partner. Our room was nice , no complaints there. But we decided to have our evening meal there as it seemed quite quiet, what a mistake that was, my husband had the roast beef which he couldn’t even cut with a knife and the vegetables looked like they had been flattened. I had chicken strips which were cold and chewy and a portion of chips which were again cold and not very pleasant. We would stay here again but would definitely be looking to eat elsewhere.

I had a frustrating experience at The Greswolde Arms in Solihull that I feel compelled to share. My husband parked in their car park for a lunch visit, unaware that payment was required. A couple of weeks later, I received a £100 parking charge notice (reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days). Before appealing, I discovered that if the car was parked for less than 2 hours, the Greswolde Arms would reimburse the charge. While my husband technically should have paid, we would have received a refund anyway. I assumed they would accept this as a gesture of goodwill, but I was wrong. For 28 days, I anxiously checked my email and mail, expecting a response. When I finally received a letter demanding the full £100, I was shocked, having assumed my appeal was accepted due to the lack of communication. I sent a letter explaining my situation, but their response stated they had emailed the appeal decision within the 28 days. Despite thoroughly searching my inbox, I couldn’t find that email. I even requested proof of it, but they didn’t reply. Then I was contacted by Debt Recovery Plus for £170! I called them to explain the situation, and they provided proof that the email was sent. However, despite being tech-savvy, I couldn’t locate it anywhere, not even in my trash or spam folders. Eventually, I found it on my email client’s website, but it raises a serious question: why wasn’t the appeal response forwarded to me? Emails can go astray, and it feels like this is exactly what they were counting on. Instead of a manageable £60 bill, we now face a tripled amount. This experience has left a sour taste, and I believe it’s unethical for The Greswolde Arms not to clearly inform their customers about the paid parking policy. I shouldn't have to pay for parking at a pub where I'm paying for a lunch. I hope this review prompts the pub to reconsider their communication practices regarding parking to prevent future patrons from facing similar frustrations.

Went for an evening meal, paid partly with Tesco clubcard vouchers. Lovely staff, always deal with these vouchers respectfully - some places make you feel awkward using them, but not here. Food is posh pub grub, our meals were presented and flavorsome. Took our 11 year old granddaughter. She eats very slowly but staff very understanding about that. Lovely decor inside, relaxing atmosphere. Car park close to the hotel and free if a customer, just put number plate in on arrival. Have been to Greswolde Arms Hotel before and will definitely go again.

Nice atmosphere in the main lounge to relax and have a delicious cup of coffee at a very reasonable price, served by pleasant, friendly staff. Our group meet here on a monthly basis to catch up and always find it a pleasant experience.

Great place for overnight stay.

Decided to try the Greswold Arms for a meal today. NEVER AGAIN! The place was very quiet so can't blame the poor service and quality of the food on pressures of the day. The sea bass was very poor in quality and portion size for £17.99. My friends meal was also sub standard. The whole experience was very very disappointing to say the least and the customer service was very poor. Definitely won't be back and would not recommend to any of my friends and family.

Had lunch here. The fish and chips were very good, as were the desserts - chocolate fondant and caramel sundae. Service was good and Ella and San were great. Would recommend for a leisurely lunch.

Came for lunch with family was good nice location, big car park and food was nice. We had a baby with us and there was high chairs available with outdoor seating. Which on a nice day is 👌🏼

I have previously stayed here on several occasions and it is always my go to when visiting the area, the hotel is Great value , with very clean, comfortable, spacious and tastefully decorated rooms, the staff are always friendly and accommodating, specifically the young lady, Samantha who looked after me for an evening meal, and breakfast, where she handled indecisiveness and dietary requirements with ease. I Would highly recommend the accommodation and also the connivence of having its own restaurant and on site parking. This is my preferred place stay here when traveling down for work.

We had lunch on Friday. I had the start of a coughing fit. And Michelle came straight over and asked if I wanted some water. I could barely speak but said yes. In seconds she brought over a pint glass of water and saved the day. Thank you Michelle. We were most impressed with you being in tune with your diners and your quick response to my situation. And also your kindness and professionalism. Greswolde Arms you have a very good member of staff there. I hope you appreciate her as much as we did.

Lovely friendly atmosphere. I took my family for a meal last week and we were well looked after by Michelle and JJ. The food was tasty, would definitely recommend a visit.

Family of 5 on Saturday 3rd February. TBH it wasn't great compared to the previous visit. Small portions all around, took 40 minutes for the food to arrive and the place was half empty. The Service was fine as usual, when the food arrived. Not sure if I'm going back in a hurry. Well we did come back. My sister just had her birthday meal. The chef and I'm really being kind calling him a chef. He had a nightmare 4 out of 6 meals were garbage. Old chips, something missing off the plate. We felt sorry for the waitress who was spot on. BUT I should of known when the manager severed me a cold cappuccino as soon as I walked in the place. Sorry guys but short staffed don't cut it

We visited the Greswolde for the weekend. We used an accessible room, as my wife is in a wheelchair. The room was excellent. Lots of room and the doors are nice and wide. Recommended.

Went out for a meal with family as a thank you, firstly it took ages for it to arrive. Two of us ordered the lamb shank shepherds pie which was supposed to have vegetables inside, when it came they had put a small amount of cabbage on the side and no other vegetables so it look really unappealing. When we started to eat the lamb was really good, fell off the bone but I only found two very tiny diced carrots in the pie. I think it would have been better serving a few carrots and peas with it for the price we paid.

Came here Sunday for a nice drink with family and friends and there was so many dogs in there it was horrible When has it become fashionable to bring your dog or dogs to the pub leave them at home There was people eating in the restaurant which isn’t divided so hair from the dogs would just flow through the restaurant And all they kept doing was barking Very unpleasant time We won’t be coming here again

Been here a few times always lovely food. Had to wait 15 minutes to be served at the bar. 4 staff watching 1 guy serving. Then to be told we was late for our table reservation. 🤔

We visited lunch time on a Saturday, a bit quiet. I steak and ale pie that had a lovely puff lid. Came with seasonal veg and optional mashed potato and a gorgeous gravy. Recommended.

********** I have finally got round to doing a review of The Greswolde Arms Hotel in Knowle. I have to give credit where it is due, on all of my visits in the last 5 months has been very good however the lack of staff is a constant challenge to all the pubs/restaurants in Knowle, these are not easy times for anyone. If you can be patient, you will be looked after by Lorraine & her team. Staff & Service - I have always found the team at The Greswolde really lovely, helpful and although under pressure at times, I think the team there are hardworking and lovely. I don't go of a night time as queuing at the bar proves very difficult for me. I visit in the mornings for coffee and sometimes brunch with a friend and I love it. Peace, quiet & comfort is guaranteed and the staff have time to look after me. Lorraine, Sam & Michelle helped me today, even though they had a busy breakfast session, I was not over looked in anyway. Food - I really like the brunches, the lunches and the Sunday dinners. The main menu I find a little pricey for what you get but I don't go out for meals there of an evening anymore due to my own personal circumstances. Accommodation - I use The Greswolde regularly for when my family visit. The deals are out there unless there are events on at the NEC when the prices significantly rise. Location - great location just off junction 5 of the M42 right by the shops and all the fabulous cuisine that surrounds it. Value for Money - Well it suits my pocket for when I go. Prices behind the bar are too high for me for alcohol but I guess they charge hotel prices. As for food prices, they do have good early evening offers but all I can say is the food I eat in the bar area is at a competitive price for the area and I don't mind paying those charges. Access for the Disabled - I don't have a wheelchair so I can't comment in that regard but I struggle in other ways. Access is generally very good. The use of a roomy disabled toilet is a blessing. It could do with a freshen up paint wise but it is perfect for my needs. Final comment - I know the leisure industry has had a hideous time over the last few years but really it is time now to to raise the hourly rate to attract people back into the industry. Limited staff behind the bar, in restaurants and kitchens etc means queues and fraid tempers and that is not fair on anybody. I like it there because the staff are always kind to me and I very much appreciate that.

Had an early flight from Birmingham - so Greswolde Arms was quite close. Parking was easy, the receptionist was friendly and helpful. Our room was spotless and in excellent order. We had an excellent meal in their restaurant- we will definitely be returning.

Just a spontaneous meet up with a friend for a couple of early doors drinks after work. We live locally so know the Gres well & it was pretty empty when we were there. The issue started with an order of a large Bacardi & Diet Coke. It was served in a tiny tumbler with watered down & totally flat postmix - £11 for the privilege! It could have been remedied immediately if our request for a fresh one with a bottle of Diet Coke instead of postmix had been accepted. Unfortunately Hayden ( the supposed Manager) informed us that we should have requested a bottle of Diet Coke initially and the £11 was the price & not to question his level of customer service. As a recommendation, maybe in future you could offer the options to your guests prior to serving. Also perhaps deal with your lack of quality control of your postmix. But most importantly learn how to deal with customers in a way which could have resulted in them staying for 4 rounds of drinks instead of only one. We took out custom to a bar a few metres away where we were served drinks in appropriate glasses with a quality mixer instead of a watered down flat syrup!

We went for a mothers day meal beer very good service excellent the meals came a little quick to the table and the only fault I could find was the food warmish and could have been hotter but apart from that lovely roast lunch 😋

Decided to pop into the Greswolde today for a spot of lunch with friends. The two members of staff Adam and Michelle were really friendly and helpful! I had the duck leg from the specials menu and it was absolutely delicious! Would definitely recommend and will be returning!

Attended a family we’d day this venue and due to distance booked 2 night stay. Arrived to find that breakfast wasn’t included in £117 but was included on £100 night. Very short of staff throughout the stay and on the morning of departure went to my room after breakfast and found AGAIN card not working to enter my room so returned to desk and no staff. Advised by the only staff I could find (young waitress sorting breakfasts) to ring bell but no avail. Kept ringing and knocked door to office and then heard talking. After over 10 mins waiting and constantly ringing bell I opened the office door to find the manage chatting on hhe phone and he was incredibly rude to me demanding I leave and wait for him. Tried y to o explain I was locked out of room and he ignored me after shouting at me to leave !!! When he finally came out to desk he continued in his arrogant manner claiming he was on the phone to a customer but couldn’t even acknowledge my presence and ask me to wait a min ?? Really spoilt what would have been a wonderful celebration and would never return due to disorganisation of staff and rudeness!!

Stayed at the hotel to attend a family wedding. A lovely occasion, made even more so by the very friendly and helpful staff. The room was lovely and clean, beds comfortable. Had a very nice breakfast the following day. Great place to stay.

Just wanted to say thankyou we booked a table on 23/1/24 and had breakfast at the hotel which was so nice, the service was lovely a tall dark haired lady didn't catch her name but she was really thoughtful to our needs excellent service. We definitely be back

Visited on Valentine’s Day lunch time. Considering it was busy all the staff were happy and friendly! We had the three course set menu for £26. It was really good value for money and the food was beautiful! The two members of staff Michelle and Adam in the restaurant were absolutely brilliant!! Could not have had a better valentines meal
