The Stonegallows Inn in Taunton Deane

Looking at the reviews, we were not alone in receiving the standard of service we had. Ordered food at 1:40, pub was starting to empty. Our drinks came after about ten minutes. One had a fly in it. Sometimes that can’t be helped. Our food didn’t arrive until 2:50. We weren’t told about the wait and any member of staff that passed us avoided eye contact. Clearly, the kitchen needed some help seeing as there was an hour wait on salad… Bar and serving staff were stood down one end of the pub just chatting. Surely one of them could go and assist in the kitchen? When our food arrived, one meal was almost cold and the other burnt. Awful wait time, food wasn’t great, staff weren’t very helpful. Only come here if you want to wait an hour for some burnt bread and salad….

Went as a large group for a Christmas meal. The staff were welcoming and very patient with us, we had several people pull out because if the bad weather but that didn't phase them. Nor did the fact that half our party couldn't remember what they ordered! Food was good, good value for money. Drinks very reasonably priced. I marked down on the atmosphere because a bit of background music would be nice 👌

On the plus side we were greeted by a lovely young lady who also served our food. She was very pleasant and friendly. The food was very good and piping hot. However the young lady taking the food orders was very abrupt. She could do with time spent at charm school

Popped in for lunch on a trip with friends, very cozy vibe, food was well prepared and extremely tasty. Staff here where friendly. Will visit again next time I'm in the area :)

Went in for our monthly family night/ birthday meal. I can only say what a fantastic job James and Harrison did. The food was running late and with having two diabetics at the table timing is essential. However there was a bit of a delay and thoughs two kept communication throughout. They truly made our evening and need some recognition on how well they both do at there jobs. We vist once a month and hope they are both there the next time we vist so say our thank yous again. Truly brilliant service from them both! James especially as he was rushed off his feet seeing to everyone but doing it so effortlessly. Only thing I would say is let the poor man wear comfy shoes 🤣 as after doing what he was doing his feet must have hurt wearing them shoes! Very happy customers as there was 9 of us. We will see you next month

I went along with a friend for breakfast and I was expecting it to be a bit like other cheap chain-pubs and hadn't set my expectations very high, but was pleasantly surprised! Mega breakfast for £8.99 will see you filled up until tea time and everything was cooked nicely and tasted good. Definitely be back again soon to try some other items!

Great night with my partner. Service was exceptional from the three blokes working and the food was wonderful. Harrison I think he said his name was really stood out to us this evening.

Shout out to James the manager who went above & beyond today whilst we held an event at the venue.

Came in today and the food was quick and was great, our waitress Ellie was brilliant and my siblings absolutely adored her and she was brilliant with them. Ellie also helped us with all our questions and couldn’t have been more helpful even while being pretty busy as well.

Harrison, an absolute star who was so professional and knowledgeable of the menu, left me breathless after an absolutely lovely night x

Went to Stonegallows for the first time tonight. Have to say we were very impressed. The food was sooooo nice and piping hot and such good value as well. Would highly reccomend and will 100% be returning to work our way through the menu!!

The Sunday lunch was enjoyable. My choice of desert, cheesecake, was off menu, my alternative choice of sticky toffee pudding with custard was disappointing.

A fantastic meal for my granddaughters birthday , Lewis was a lovely chap and Harrison made sure we were ok , definitely recommend it .

Very dirty pub I get they were busy and understaffed lots of tables were dirty and still had plates etc on food didn't take that long but was very tasteless

I visited The Stone Gallows whilst visiting my friend in Taunton. It was my request to go there as I had been before. It was 12pm on Sunday 2nd of November 2023. I found the barman taking orders quite intimidating. He asked if I had an allergy. All I wanted to say was that I didn't want a Yorkshire pudding because I was gluten free. He took over my order and told me what I needed to have and wouldn't let me speak. After 40 yrs of being intolerant to gluten I know what I can tolerate and what I can't. I told him this and with bulging eyes told me that his sister had had an operation because of it. Totally embarrassing. All I wanted to do was ask for what I wanted and he wouldn't listen. As a result I didn't enjoy my meal nor enjoyed being in the same room as him. Please listen to the people who you are serving.

All the staff were very helpful, the fish and chips was excellent value.

The menu had plenty of variety. Ordering from the friendly member of staff at the bar was simple & straightforward & our first choice of meal was available. Service was with a smile, fast & efficient. The food was very well presented & had plenty of flavour.

Weekday visit at 1pm, four adults. Clearly running on minimum staffing levels so as a result there was a 45 minute wait for our food. The tables were noticeably sticky. Fortunately we were not in a hurry and had plenty to chat about. Despite this, the food was excellent and well priced. - around £30 for four drinks and four main meals. note that they currently accept Blue Light discount cards. It was well cooked, tasty and hot. I personally had the Burger Sizzler Combo. I was full with everything that came with it and took the burger home to have later!

The staff were amazing working very hard to keep up with the demands. However, there was only one member on the till and one clearing the tables. The management needs to address this as our food took an hour and 15 minutes to arrive. The poor staff should be getting paid double if the managers are going to make them do this on a busy Saturday lunchtime.

Would of been lovely if the meal wasn't cooked incorrectly so had to ask for my meal to go as everyone else had finished eating

Had such an amazing time out with my family , the food was incredible ! And the staff was lovely , we were hosted by Ellie and she was incredible , timely ,we were never left waiting for anything she was on point 10/10, the food was also great !

Arrived to find the table we had booked was occupied. Got given another table which was next to the door for the smoking area so we were really cold, requested another table which was accommodated. Ordered food and informed there would be a wait between starter and main. Starter arrived after about 10 minutes. Nearly an hour later and plenty of vacant tables we had given up and decided to leave as we had places to be. Requested a refund due to the ridiculous wait time and was almost made to feel like an inconvenience through no fault of our own. First time trying this place, we won't be returning. There is nothing more financially beneficial than repeat business however it seems this is not something that matters to this company.

My dad and I come almost every week. Our server is always Ellie, she is very nice and cheerful and we love seeing her.

I was here recently for breakfast and I had the breakfast wrap and it was amazing , the atmosphere inside the pub was brilliant and the service from Ellie was amazing and made me feel very comfortable during my time here . I will be back soon hopefully and would recommend to anyone in the area.

Came in for lunch today, was welcomed with a smile by the woman who served me, Elisha I believe her name was, was very polite and friendly throughout my visit and the food was very nice too, it was worth the visit

I had the pleasure of being served by Elesha at the Stonegallows Inn, I'm from out of town so was my first time here and I can't praise her enough! The service was exceptional from start to finish – friendly, attentive, and with a warm smile throughout. I ordered the Full Monty, and it was absolutely delicious! Everything was cooked to perfection, and the portion size was generous. Elesha made the experience even better with her top-notch service. Highly recommend visiting and asking for Elesha if you're in the area!

Had an absolutely amazing Sunday roast at the stone gallows inn! The potatoes were fluffy and the meat was succulent! Harrison who served us delivered a terrific service with a smile! Highly recommend! 5 out of 5!

Great people. Unfortunately service time is nothing short of shambolic. Run on skeleton staff which evidently is not the responsibility of the onsite team. Waiting time at the bar. Offers which are confusing. There are too many varied offers also. Tables are not clean due to low staff count. Yes, it's value, and what should one expect from a cheap deal? That said when you wait 20 mins to just get served and que like you're at alton towers does not lend itself to a positive experience. Especially if your one adult with your kids. The staff look knackered and overworked. Polite but no smiles and poor body language due poor working conditions. Have a gut feeling efficency restructuring by Green King have affected the customer expectations.

We ate here today, it was very busy and with Just 2 girls and a chef they did a smashing job. They warned us there was a wait stayed friendly and positive. On top of the awful day they were having one of the poor girls hurt herself. I felt so bad for her. I think they did an amazing job under such pressure. I'm from a hospitality background myself and I understand how hard it is to keep on top of everything. I really hope they know how amazingly well they did. Not everyone can handle the pressure as well as they did :-) I didn't get there names, but thank you so much for everything!

We prebooked being a Sunday. There was four of us, ordered and paid at the bar. The bearded guy did not mention any wait time!!! Order was placed at 1.15pm. After asking about our meals ( waiting by then for over half an hour) I was told there was a 30 minute wait - which I said had already passed!!!! He asked our table number and said it should be about another five minutes or so. We FINALLY got our meals exactly ONE HOUR and 10 MINUTES in total after we ordered!!!! We won’t be back on a Sunday in future. I also ended up telling quite a few people how long they would have to wait and they turned around and walked out. By the way two of us had Lasagne and it was tepid when we got it, the other two meals were piping hot !!!!

Food was everything I had heard from friends etc saying to me how going it was, service was good even had a little banter with staff, definitely worth the visit, will definitely recommend it and given the opportunity will visit again

Really disappointed. We tried going out for a family celebration. They only had half the meal choices we wanted. Gave up and went home.

We have been to Stonegallows on numerous occasions for food in the last few months,it has been nothing short of excellence. The food is always delicious and the customer service has been outstanding.

While on holiday we were looking for somewhere to eat 😋, was not sure what it would be like 🤔 never having been there before, so we went along to try it. We needn't have worried at all, as, the place was warm friendly, the food and service was excellent, would we go again ?? Absolutely would.

A 45 minute wait for food, followed by a roast dinner where the only hot items were the roast potatoes warrants a drop in stars on this rating! The waiting staff and bar staff were amazing just the food that let them down....

No front of house like they used to,had to get our own cutlery, no activity packs for kids,we were told to go and look for them, the kids play area outside is in need of repair or better still replace, food was good

The Hungry Horse is thankfully our local pub/restaurant. Right on the A38 though it doesn't suffer any traffic noise. The menu is superb and the value incomparable. We think so highly of it that we visit once or twice month, often taking groups of friends. OK we are not talking Michelin here but a reliable venue with ample parking even for the disabled Sometimes it so busy that the kitchen is overrun. However the waits are rarely that long and well worth it. The staff are superb and very pleasant. Using the pies as a yardstick they are possibly twice the size of those served up by WS. The drinks are many and varied and of a decent price. There are superb offers to be had everyday Still a large choice of offer meals at less than £10. Example plenty of 2 for £12.99. At that price you could treat YOURSELF....... Cons are the level of music sometimes which a polite request to management will rectify. There is a large quieter area but not always when it is reserved e.g a wake. There is also a large garden terrace for outside eating and a children's play area. Thoroughly recommended We will return soon and are looking forward to booking the Christmas Festive menu

Food was so lovely I couldn’t get enough of it. It did take a little longer than I expected to come out but it was definitely worth the wait. Big shoutouts to our server Harrison who deserves a big pat on the back for his outstanding work.

Shocking. Waited 45 minutes for my meal that turned up cold, with the toast burnt to a crisp. Not only was the food exceptionally poor, but just before our food came out a chef ran out the kitchen and told the whole pub not to eat here as the food is horrible and shouldn’t be consumed by anyone. A waitress did come out to explain the chef didn’t mean it he had just been told off and reacted badly. The service, standard of food, cleanliness and the theatrics of the chef means I will not be returning.

Went in with my family this evening (31/08/24). Was pre warned about a wait on food however came out in half the time we were told. Service was excellent. Harrison was a gem and made us feel welcomed and happily enjoyed some laughs with us, which our nan loved. Food was lovely. Piping hot and great value for money. Would recommend and definitely return. Even with a chef down they all worked together to deliver great service. Great customer service by all staff.

Came for food tonight. Staff were great and very friendly. Child and wife has allergies and they were great to accommodate this. They were a chef down but this did not show in the quality of food. Food was great, ice cream was massive. Staff couldn't do more very helpful. Definitely recommend and come back aswell.

The beef on the roast dinner was awfully the veg was ok . Then me and my guest had a server saying to another guest oh this should have been your table ,which made me feel like I was being blamed for the mistake . The table did not have a reserved sign on it and I felt very uncomfortable I left more or less immediately. I will not be going back again .

Had a table booked for 7pm was seated straight away, ordered food was told it would be about 45 minutes very very busy didn't mind waiting when food came out it was piping hot and very tasty steak cooked perfectly.

Went for a meal 2 weeks ago, ordered from the app as always. Waited 1 hour before our food arrived. We have been here many times before and the food is with you within about 10 mins. What makes it worse, there was about 6 to 8 tables waiting for food, it wasn't overly busy. But nothing was coming out of the kitchen, 3 members of staff walking aroung the pub, then going into the kitchen. But they coming out with no food. Asked one of the staff how long for food, he said around 25 mins, we said we have already waited an hour. We won't be going back.

Don't waste your time or money! We went as a group for granddaughter's birthday. Half the menu wasn't available, and what they replaced missing items with was only corn on the cob boild or battered. Then, they replaced a side order for a child with peppers and onions fried with more corn. As for the steak 🤮🤢 take a chainsaw! You will need one. Absolutely disgusting!

I come here alot during the day when I'm work. Staff are friendly. You know what the food is going to be like so ok. I had dinner today with my wife and mum. Didn't look busy when we went. Must have waited at least 30 to 40 minutes. They said sorry for the wait. We said that's ok but what I really wanted to say was if there is a delay please tell me when I walk in that way I can decide to stay or not rather than wondering whats happening. I think people would appreciate the honesty. The waiter said there was one chef and one pot washer and that they were doing their best. I understand that and I hope they find more staff from somewhere. The food was ok

Popped In today for food.. food wasn’t bad but having to wait over an hour for food was abit of a problem it didn’t even look that busy so wasn’t sure what the hold up was or wasn’t offered an explanation as to what was taking so long for the food

This is a place that I go to frequently. The staff are nice and friendly in the main and the manager tries really hard to sort things out. The food is good and very reasonably priced, but they have had staffing issues for many years… ‘The chef has walked out’ ‘The chef is ill’ ‘The chef is new’ and ‘We’re understaffed at the moment’ etc There aren’t enough staff to take orders and often only one person (or nobody!) on the two bar areas. The queue to order food gets incredibly long. The tables and menus are sticky and the place needs a re-paint and as for the ladies toilets, well, let’s just say that it’s not a nice place to visit! Today I waited over an hour for my roast dinner.

A long wait for breakfast as chef was 30min late arriving. Eventually got food and was cold. Sausages not cooked ropperly eggs looked like they were about to hatch. Bacon was burnt to a cinder. No butter on toast with scrambled egg. I will not be going there again for breakfast. Recommend going elsewhere.

First time visiting today, very clean and tidy pub. Efficient service from polite and interested staff on duty. Meals were what you can expect and good sized with fair prices. Lots of special offers and definitely ideal for families. Separate area for adult dining will appeal greatly at certain times. Would recommend. Very pleasing. Worth a visit with summer approaching. 🤩 Sadly visited twice now in a fortnight and nearly walked out Monday lunchtime when visiting for a drink recently before school holidays, waited and waited and waited and finally got served by a very miserable member of staff, Last night Sunday 5/30 pm ish lovely warm evening, walked into the pub again on a busier evening for a drink as I live close by now and had to walk out, just zero acknowledgement from bar area pool table side, waited and waited and just left. The lovely efficient staff from my first visit do not appear to still be here and as a ‘non diner’ these chain pubs are not very accommodating sadly. Disappointed as I now live in the Galmington area.

This hungry horse was definatly having trouble with getting food out well and on time. Waited along with many other tables for food taking way to long to come out. When the server was asked about the wait, the food (two roasts and two bbq chickens) came out straight away as if it had been sat waiting for a while. The food was cold and blatently reheated unevenly, even the icecream after was walmer. Multiple tables around us were reacting in the same way towards the service and food.
