Realy Great Service food was realy nice and reasonably priced. Staff where very friendly and welcoming. Me and my other half went for the sirloin steak with is being a wednesday we went for the offer 2 steaks for £20 we payed and extra £3 each to upgrade to sirloin. Both come with peas chunkey homemade chips and girlled tom . Stake was cooked amazing. Our 7 year old Daughter had the childrens meal chicken goujons which come with fries and little pot beans. We also went for dessert I had the kindbruno sunday and my other hade the choc fudge one. Our Daughter had a small villina ice cream all very nice would go again. Staff also asked us was our food nice if any of use would like any sources and if there could get us anythink else. Bar was nice and clean which made it very welcomeing to.

Myself and my family came to the stone trough for tea on 5th August, my husband ordered the fish(whale) and chips ,I ordered the Thai chicken stir fry which I requested was extra spicy, and the children had a pepperoni pizza and garlic bread with cheese,service was very quick,the food was absolutely beautiful my husbands fish was huge with crispy batter beautiful flakes of white cod,fresh cooked chips ,and mushy peas,my stirfry was cooked to perfection vegetables had a lovely little crunch to them and full of amazing flavour, the kids pizza and garlic bread were also cooks beautiful, I will definitely be returning and would highly recommended this place to anyone

Popped in for lunch yesterday . Such a huge variety to choose from. Hubby had the Mexican burger and I had the gyros. Everything was spot on. Homemade chips are the best. We really enjoyed it,

The food in this place is beautiful, unfortunately the stone trough is let down by its staff, my daughter and I finished our lunch and decided we would like a cider to finish off the meal, we stood at the bar for 10 minutes while 5 staff members passed by us, not one of them had the good manners to say I won’t be long, and one of them stood at the side of the bar chatting to her friend right in front of us. I will think twice before going again. I can’t abide bad manners

Good value for money, tasty food. Got the fish and chips, and the chips where big chunky home cooked ones, and everthing was cooked really well. Got curry and bread and butter on the side, only negative was that the butter was rock solid, so a bit hard to spread on my bread. Seems a popular place, as most tables where reserved, this was a sunday tho, and there was a carvery on, but they manged to give us a table still, its good that they still serve a massive menu along side the carvery, so you have alot of other options if you dont fancy a dinner. Staff our friendly and theres a nice beer garden out the back. Highly recomend!.

We ate here five times when we were staying nearby and were unable to cook for ourselves. We had consistently good homemade food. The daily roast and vegan pie were both excellent and came with a ton of fresh veggies (carrots, cauliflower, cabbage) which were perfectly cooked. Fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding and Apple crumble for pud were also very good. The Stone Trough is not fine dining but it is excellent value. Service is efficient and friendly. Go early on quiz night (Tuesday?) as it is fully booked later.

The dark haired woman behind the bar was fine with locals, but rude to us as iriah tourists visiting Angel of the North. We were very polite to her and she treated us so differently to how she treated the locals, we are putting money behind the bar, she acted like it was her pub, so that should make her happy. Her attitude was very bad, we took our glasses back to the bar no thank you, no hi, no bye, no telling us how much the drinks were. She was barking at the young sweet girl behind the bar. You will not be welcomed here unless u are a local. A group of 20 young boys smoking dope in the beer garden, which several staff members saw and walked past and thought that was fine even though they were sat next to babies and young children. Don't come here.

By far the best food ive had up the North East on this visit the food is nothing but fantastic cheap and Top notch a must for anyone and i promise you won't be disappointed five star cant recommend this place enough

Ideal for a quick spot of lunch . Been a few times. We shared a burger when we were in as it was big. Really tasty . Reasonable price drinks, only thing is it often feels quite cold in there. We were there just over a week ago before the heat wave and both doors were open. Didn’t seem to matter where you sit it’s cold so we never stay for long.

Well thanks for all the advice.Ended up at The Stone Trough as it’s local.Must say the food was ok but the staff!Had to order food and drinks ourselves after being seeted in the bar .Turned out the bar turns into a crèche! Got up to order extra drinks but upset Paige the server as she was on the phone and said she wouldn’t serve me again after talking to her like that(suggesting she put the phone down and finished my order).Then left saying not putting up wi this s… !!When we left Trish was asked unfortunately off Paige the table number.She said l,m not serving you !!!!Wish Trish had walked away .£150 later don’t think we,ll be rushing back to The Stone Trough.Paige l suggest you maybe get another job where your not face to face with customers and dress accordingly

We recently held a wake for my brother in law at the Stone Trough From start to finish the whole thing was dealt with in a friendly, helpful way. The bar room was a perfect location, the buffet was amazing and all the staff were so attentive, helpful and friendly. It made the whole thing easier, and everyone said they thought it was an ideal location for a private party, whatever the occasion. We have also popped in several times for a meal in the pub and again the staff were always friendly and the food just right. So thank you so much. Heather Munn.

Went for lunch with 6 friends and the food was traditional and very tasty. Excellent lunch menu with 2 courses costing £10, very generous portions and a pleasant setting. Will definitely be going back.

Been in this pub several times for different occasions ( Friend catch up , Couple date) and every time I’ve not had 1 complaint. The day the photos were taken the pub was very busy but the food was still served in an expected time and was beautiful and the waiters/waitresses were as lovely as ever

Our family party came in this afternoon for lunch, a first for myself. The staff were extremely pleasant. All of us enjoyed our meals and deserts. I had the hunters chicken followed by the sticky toffee pudding with custard, I will be returning. The pudding was the nicest I have ever tasted and the hunter's chicken was amazing, the chicken cooked perfectly. Thankyou for such lovely food and atmosphere.

My husband and brother went to the Stone Trough to see Newcastle United’s first Semi Final Cup Match since 1976, having read that there is Sky Sports football shown throughout the pub. However the pub quiz took priority and staff refused to turn the sound on the TV. Hopeless.

Had been for lunch here last week, the food was ok, nothing fantastic. The place itself though is absolutely freezing cold. They had no heating on. We all had to sit with our coats on, awkward when eating. I’m assuming they’ve been told to keep heating off due to the cost but we couldn’t wait to get out and home. May return in the summer to give it another try

We were let down at very short notice by another restaurant and The Stone Trough fitted us in for our Cubs Christmas night out - 25 young people and 4 adults. The staff were lovely and the food excellent. Enjoyed by all - lots of clean plates! Thank you so much. We’ll be back next year if you’ll have us!

The valentines takeaway was a huge success in our house. I had king prawns to start and steak for mains and both were delicious my husband said he had only tasted salmon that good in fish restaurants abroad. It was delivered on time and even though it was a three course meal for two, it kept its heat while we ate our starters. Overall, a fabulous meal at a decent price and could only have been beaten by actually visiting the restaurant which we certainly will at the first opportunity

I attended the Stone Trough on Wednesday 23rd September 2020 for an evening meal with my wife, it’s been a few years since we were there last and then The meals weren’t that good but after checking the online menus we thought we would give it another go, as we went in a young lad called Callum was our table service Staff member who looked after us all evening, he was great with the drinks and, spoke about the Tie meal I was wanting, my wife’s meal was a prawns then a steak mine was a Tie soup and a curry both meals I give top marks to the chef and young Callum made sure we had our Irish coffee to finish well done son we had a lovely evenings, definitely go again

Early Sunday night and lots of young people in with absolutely no social distancing. The bar is supposed to close at 10:00pm on a Sunday but the bar man stopped serving at 9:30 because i quote it's not financially viable to stay open when there are only a few people in. What's the point of having stipulated open hours if you are going to shut early with no warning.

The Stone Trough itself is a nice place, the staff are friendly and it's clean but the food certainly wasn't anything special. Having an allergy, the menus and staff were unsure on whether certain dishes had certain ingredients, telling me to order something else just in case and staff weren't willing to go ask the chef to find out. I ended up with fish and chips and for some reason the fish was placed on top of the chips so all the grease and oil soaked into the chips and made them inedible. The fish was nice, but clearly not fresh. Everything was well cooked though.The place was noisy, perhaps it was a busy time or day, but lots of noisy kids running around made for the opposite of a relaxing meal. Overall the food doesn't reflect the price, it's overpriced for what it is. Wouldn't return.

Arrived at 7.20 pm, ordered straight away, the food arrived at quarter to nine, asked numerous waitresses if they could chase it up, not one came back with an update. Ordered a bottle of wine, came to the table with no glasses. Thought the food was going to be something special due to the wait, the steak was burnt, took it home for the dog. Wanted to complain but my husband didn't want to be embarrassed, the embarrassment lies with this pub, would never come again. If your under 25 and couldn't care less, then maybe.

Booked a table for two tonight. The food and service was very good, but there was a definite lack of social distancing. The problem was young people going to the bar for drinks and then going into the beer garden. At one time the must have been 15 young men at the bar, greeting each other with hugs etc. They were very noisy and we felt like they were right on top of us. At the bar there was a huge sign saying no bar service ! I asked the waitress why they were serving drinks at the bar, she said because they could ! I said it was not very well organised due to Covid restrictions. Ten minutes later, a sign was put onto the counter, No bar service ! They were serving drinks from the bar in the function room. It was much better as it got rid of the crowds in the restaurant. When we left, the beer garden was packed with young people. No social distancing ! I would hate to live over the road to this pub !

Wehad a Sunday lunch takeaway last weekend which was excellent. Looking through the menu saw they did Thai food. Ordered online tonight. It did arrive a little early but WOW one Thai green and one Thai red curry. Absolutely amazing flavours and taste. Packed with chicken and prawns and flavours to blow you away. You've got to give it a try.

Decided to have lunch out with four of us. Two had a small plate-pork and beef very nice whilst one of us had a very large meal plus a chicken salad. What was left unfinished was sswrapped in a box for afterwards. Three glasses of white wine between us plus a pint of cider and the bill came to just on £30 very reasonable.Carvery well served with good portions and the staff friendly and eager to please. Well worth another visit.

Took parents for Dads 85th birthday yest as they had heard place was nice. Arrived 12.05 and place was probably quarter full. Ordered food for 5 and the place filled up over next half hr. At 1.15 I had to ask where food was as people came in, ate and left and we were still waiting...told they had problem with mash! We hadnt ordered mash? Food eventually arrived,2 meals ok but 3 arrived in bread buns instead of paninis, floating in gravy so couldnt be picked up, but was very nice so we did enjoy food. Couldnt stay for desert or coffee as Mams disabled taxi was due at 2 and we had just finished food. Very dissapointing for them!

The food pua lefoil but i ended up on it yessa, this was diu to many different flavors of ginski and vodski that were smooth to go down on the old throat yessa. Service was immense, julie loves the big sausage that was on offer, she said she could hardly fit it round her lips it was that big, not what shes used to. Very good quality pork.

À group of us had the Christmas Fayre. The prawn cocktail was okay, although served with white bread. My main course was turkey, the turkey, stuffing, mashed and toast potatoes wee fine. The other veg, cabbage, sprouts, carrots and cauliflower were all overcooked. The xmas pudding was served with custard. The cheese selection was very poor, with one cheese very hard and dry.Not the best experience, but we didnt allow it tospoil our day.

My daughter and I called in for lunch of Friday 22nd I ordered my favourite meal, fish and chips with mushy peas and bread and butter and I have to say the food was cooked to perfection with the fish coated in a very crispy batter and was nice and moist inside. The thick chips were cooked to a golden brown colour and very tasty. My daughter had Katsu curry chicken which I had never heard of and again the chicken was cooked perfectly but on tasting the curry which I liked it was just like "chip shop" curry. Over all a very pleasant meal and reasonable with it

Had lunch here today and can’t rate the food high enough. Huge menu to choose from including Thai pizza burgers and normal pub grub. The chips were amazing as was the rest of our food will definitely go back

After visiting the Angel of the North we decided that we needed some food in our bellies and came across the stone trough nothing fancy ,but we had carvery and burger the price was excellent there were no tables at first all reserved so this was a good sign but the waitress found a table we could use for an hour and 15 minutes which was adequate very impressed with the standard of food

I visit the Stone Trough quite often and it never fails to disappoint! On this occasion, I ordered a pizza burger with jalapeños and bolognese, while my friend ordered the scampi. I always find it difficult to choose what to order because the options are incredible! I particularly like the Thai menu! Food arrived after a bit of a wait and it was absolutely delicious! We both ordered garlic sauces which were also lovely!

I was in the Stone Trough for work reasons recently and saw the pizza burger in the menu. Persuaded the wife to go for lunch so I could try it out. The pizza burger was delicious. Wife ordered the roast of the day and she enjoyed her meal as well.

Well worth a visit food lovely, staff friendly, service good and good a variety we go regular and will go a lot more in the future

Visited here for lunch with my friend, I ordered the arriabata pasta which I have to admit burned my mouth off... I expected a bit of spice as arriabata is a spicy dish but was a little too spicy, paid extra for a side of salad and dressing which was lovely and their garlic bread is also extremely tasty. My friend ordered the chicken burger which I had a bite of and was absolutely delicious. We had a fair bit wait for 2 meals (just over half an hour) which is a lot considering it wasn't that busy but overall we enjoyed what we had, the environment itself is comfortable and child friendly. Overall we were both satisfied and will be returning!

Stumbled across this pub and was glad we did. The menu is huge, as is the size of plate served when you make your choice of food. I went for the cheese burger, which came with slaw and home cut chips. Delicious.

Visited on a spur of the moment and have never been here before but often drove past.As you can imagine it’s full of locals who all know each other and we went was quite busy with lots of reserved tables. Staff pleasant and accommodating. Food was good and prices about average. Nothing special about the place but worth a visit if you want to try somewhere different.

Attended to celebrate my sister-in-law’s 70th birthday. My wife and I both had the carvery. I had roast beef and my wife had turkey.

Booked table for 5 at 18.00 on the 24/07/2019 and ordered at 18.15. Waited till after 19.00 for meal to start to arrive (3 meals and then 10 minutes later 4th meal and then order was wrong for fifth meal so had to wait even longer for that). Pizza was lovely, 2 of the Thai meals were lovely but the third Thai meal was very watery, the potato skins were swimming in oil and the garlic pizza was boring. Then to add to this the waitress dropped a tray of used plates at the side of our table and the contents went all over my daughters shoes, bag, feet and crutches. We were so looking forward to our family evening out but we won't be back.

Food is amazing and reasonably priced. Has a brill pub quiz on a Tuesday night too. Drink prices are a little expensive for low fell.

Ate here with my mum when we decided to go out for dinner. Somewhere decent priced. It’s not table service and you order at the bar. We ordered halloumi fries for starter and shared, they were very tasty and came with a sriracha mayo sauce which was delicious. Would definitely get those again. Could have eaten a big plate of those. For mains we both got a burger. I ordered a smokestack burger and my mum ordered a pulled pork burger. They both came with hand cut chips and coleslaw. Portions were huge! Food came out quickly and was so good. There’s so much on the menu I’d like to try next time. Have family visiting from the US in July and will definitely be bringing them here.

Came up from Liverpool at the weekend, group of 21 for a surprise birthday party. Great pub, brilliant bar staff and a lovely atmosphere. Definitely be back.

VERY DISSAPOINTING TO SAY THE LEAST! My sister and I both ordered steak and guineas pie which was medioca, the dessert had to be sent back as it was just cake with custard supposed to be sticky toffee pudding and the Eton mess was just ice cream and strawberries. The biggest waste of £30.00 ever!

Me & my husband come here regular aswell as my family & friends. Food is amazing & staff are lovely. I’ve tried lots of dishes on the menu & they are all nice but the jerk chicken sizzler & the chicken in a basket off the Thai menu are my favourites. Would definitely recommend. I rarely add reviews on here but its about time I give credit where credit is due. I've been to the Stone Trough a number of times over the years, its our "go to" restaurant when we know we'll get good food, pleasant surroundings and friendly staff. I was recommended a Thai dish in there recently and was blown away by it. Absolutely not one of those microwave restaurants that there's too many of. Real food cooked from scratch. Big thanks to the staff as always :)

One of our regular go to places. Never had a bad meal. Sometimes gets busy so 40 minutes wait but it's so nice you don't mind. Some good offers on depending on the day. Pizza burger well worth a try and the garlic mayo a must accompaniment

We arrived at 5.40pm. ordered our food. Steak and a tandoori chicken burger. Had a couple of drinks. Meals arrived 55 minutes later. My partner had to go to the bar twice to chase the orders up. Ordered steak medium rare came well done, you could taste the oil on the onion rings. Such a let down since we heard good reviews about the place

We has heard good reports so decided to try it out. From the car park it doesn't look to good even entering I was a bit cautious. But then reading the menu I decided we were definately staying. I ordered the El Diablo burger and the Mr had Teriyaki salmon, both meals were gorgeous, we oohed and arghed all through eating, don't be put off by the exteria the food was absolutely delicious. We will definately be back.

The Thaii prawns were the best I’ve ever tasted I have never had a bad meal here and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly I would definitely recommend this pub/restaurant for any occasion

Thought we would try the Sunday Lunch, not worth the money at all! Also kids sunday lunch offer too expensive! It tasted like a school dinner, and looked like a school dinner.

All a can say about this place is it was absolutely fantastic for Christmas lunch service off the staff was second to none and the bait wey it was best dinner av had for 25 years and that’s not a word of of lie

Dinedl here tonight with a friend at 6pm. We opted for the roast of the day and placed our order along with drinks .The meal arrived with mashed potatoes, pork, Yorkshire pudding and peas, and a side plate of carrots, broccoli and cabbage. It looked very appetizing until we tried the pork. It was very tough with a large amount of grissle in it ! It was inedible apart from a tiny piece. The vegetables were good and hot, but we were definitely disappointed with the meat. I told the waitress, who said she would speak to the chef. We ordered a sweet each and I paid The bill. The sweet was fine, but no one came and apologised for the tough meat. After another half hour we left, still no body mentioned the fact that we couldn't eat the meat !

We had a lovely experience overall with helpful staff and great food. The carvery had a good choice and the food was tasty and cooked just right

we booked as it was childrens holiday week although this is not needed usually. We had a wheelchair with us so they gave us a table with plenty of space and staff could not have been more helpful. Food is always fresh and well cooked. A ideal place to eat if you are visiting Angel of the North situated just along the road with plenty of parking.

We often visit here at a weekend, especially when the weather is good. There are outside seating areas to both the front and back (away from the busy road).

This is a lovely pub for a Sunday lunch the carvery is the closest you'll get to a home cooked roast, lots of choice on veg and meat, and all perfectly cooked. Little tip, book on a Sunday as it gets very busy

Me and a friend went for lunch today, lovely furnished clean pub/ restaurant. Friendly staff, food lovley although felt my mince and dumplings was over seasoned. Personal preference. Good value for money. We will return

We have visited this place as a party of 15 just before Christmas. Quick service, good food, nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this place!

A quick lunch , near the school sports day event . Actually it took a while for the food to come , but we had arrived at the very start of service , and when the beautifully fresh hot cooked food arrived we understood . The over 60’s menu was AMAZING value , and a really beautiful meal , and my sons Diablo burger blew him away ( he got very hot !!!!)

A nicely decorated, spacious pub for all of the family. Food is usually quite good but on last visit wasn't too impressed with what we ordered. Coffee quality is poor, small cups and very expensive.

we visited here after xmas and had a great family meal.the food was faultless and tasted great.just had another family visit (different family members) and again the food was great.there was quite a wait for the food but they had been very busy,which is always a good sign.and i would rather wait a bit longer for fresh food than getting a meal two minutes after ordering which is fresh from the microwave.good size portions.on our first visit we had 3 courses but this time we could only manage one.i would recommend the steak and brown ale pie.

Chose from the Over 60s menu which was really good value.I had cod,mushy peas and hand cut chips.The fish was excellent .very white and the batter was crisp.I prefer normal chips and left most of mine.They were chunky,too brown and still had their skin on.This wasn't what I expected and proved an example of chefs determined to put their own twist on what shouldn't be messed with.I noted a lovely looking salad with huge slices of ham and a jacket potato with prawns which I might try next time although they may not have been on the special menu.

Quick efficient service & food arrived piping hot & more than generous portionso. Two had burgers & myself the BBQ chicken pizza.Deserts were lovely too an Eton mess sundae, apple crumble & custard & a fantastic cheesecake with icecream! The only thing that perhaps let's the place down is the locals swearing at bar & nearby tables but not easily offended which is just aswell.

On arrival place was really busy with a mixture of families,couples, groups had a really nice buzz about the place, found a table no problem. Really varied menu something for everyone even the pickiest of eaters. We opted for the pizza burger as apparently the place is renowned for it . I thought we would of had an extremely long wait but good on the kitchen staff we didn’t. Our pizza burger was absolutely fantastic cannot fault anything at all even the chips were homemade. Service was fantastic and everyone was so friendly. The price of our meal 8.95 for the pizza burger was well worth it some places are way more expensive and frankly not worth the money. Definitely be visiting again when we’re in that area. Overall friendly busy place ,with good quality honest food at great prices it’s definitely a winner.

We booked a table as advised to do so, Sundays can get really busy. We all (6 of us) opted for the carvery (£8.75 i think for a large). Choice of 4 meats as well as huge Yorkshire puddings and a good selection of fresh vegetables. The gravy was absolutely delicious too and made the lunch even better. When buying a carvery you can add a dessert for £2.50. I was too full but the other 5 took advantage of the offer. A lovely atmosphere and lovely food at a very reasonable cost. Would definitely return and recommend.

Have been here a few times and was always fully satisfied. Warm, Cosy Bar/Restaurant. Food has slightly went downhill a little compared to the other few visits. But would return :)
