the steading Grouse & trout in Highland

Just visited this lovely pub/restaurant with friends who live locally. Rob & Ang made us feel so welcome. The food was excellent, highly recommend this place to go

The Grouse & Trout is not just for tourists, this is a wonderful premises for locals too. In just 15 minutes drive you leave the bright lights of Inverness behind and are transported to the peace and tranquillity of the Highlands. The layout of the Grouse and Trout is welcoming and comfortable with many different areas to sit and take in the wonderful scenery. The venue is also dog friendly and treats are provided at the bar. The venue is immaculate, the outside grounds are well maintained and inside is spotlessly clean. We had dinner in the restaurant and were not disappointed, the Grouse and Trout provided us with two fantastic meals, one of which was vegetarian. The chef is undoubtedly talented. Thank you to the hosts for being so welcoming, we will be back and would encourage other locals to pay the Grouse & Trout a visit.

Stayed in one of the 5 campervan pitches. Beautiful location. Our meal in the restaurant was superb and friendly hosts.

Me and my fiancé visited the restaurant on 24th December 2021 , we was greeted by a wonderful host . Very friendly and welcoming, our meal was out of this world, was beautiful and can’t wait to visit again. The Grouse and Trout is the best restaurant we have visited, and I recommend that everyone tries it .

I stayed here in my campervan on one of their lovely level pitches which all had individual water, waste, electric and even TV point. Didnt need the TV point as the views from the windows including Kites battling in the wind were amazing. I stayed 2 nights and ate in the restaurant both nights.The food was amazing and I ate Venison and Belly Pork and even persuaded to try the Ginger and Date pudding.Before and after the meal I relaxed in the dog friendly bar which had an incredibly comfy and informal atmosphere.

We stayed for the night in our camper van as it was conveniently located for our trip through Scotland. The site was small and well maintained, although there were no toilet facilities, so units must be self contained . The restaurant menu was more fine dining than we were wanting, and also had a limited vegetarian selection, so we just had a couple of drinks in the lounge bar which has lovely far-reaching views.We enjoyed watching the Red Kites flying close by.

On Saturday 2nd October 2021 some friends and I visited The Steadings for dinner and were treated to an amazing meal. The food was outstanding, presentation amazing and service struck the perfect balance of attentive yet not over powering. Every plate from each course was cleared and we all left fully satisfied from an amazing meal and wonderful evening. I cannot wait for another chance to visit the area once more and indulge in another fantastic meal at your restaurant.Thank you to every member of your supremely talented team.

Ánge and Rob have made such a difference to the Grouse and Trout. Excellent food and above all, the friendliest of welcomes. At last a welcoming pub/restaurant in Strath Nairn. We enjoyed a great family birthday meal and will certainly be back.

We called in at the Grouse & Trout on Tuesday evening and at very short notice, Rob & Ang fed us with the most delightful meal. Very professional, very friendly and would wholeheartedly recommend a visit if you are in the area. I would advise booking though to be on the safe side.

The Grouse and Trout (the new owners are dropping The Steadings name) is an enjoyable and isolated getaway that is a stone’s throw from bustling Inverness. Despite being quite close to the eastern shore of Loch Ness, the hotel has no views of note other than rolling farmland, yet it is the food in the restaurant that makes a visit worthwhile. Farm fresh ingredients and local favorites like venison highlight the menu, the restaurant appears to be very popular with the nearby gentry in Inverness.

Stayed one night whilst doing the NC500 on our motorbikes. Safe to park. Very welcoming hosts, good comfortable rooms, great food. We enjoyed the evening meal and breakfast (breakfast included in the room price). Great location near Loch Ness.

We booked into the Caravan and Motorhome Club CL in the grounds of the Hotel for six nights with our caravan. We decided to eat in the Restaurant one night and we were definitely not disappointed. COVID19 restrictions in place were exemplary and as we were the only diners in the restaurant we were treated quite royally by Mary and the lovely Nicky.The food, cooked by owner David, was quite simply the best we have tasted for a while and it felt so normal and safe to be eating in beautiful surroundings. I chose the smoked trout as a starter and my OH had the smoked salmon. Beautifully presented with "proper" Melba toast. We both opted for the Venison which was well presented with sufficient vegetable to enable us to have our "five a day" in one sitting! The Rioja we chose was sublime and complimented the meal perfectly. To finish I had the vanilla Pannacotta with fresh fruit and OH had the honeycomb Cheesecake. All in all a fabulous experience; both Mary and Nicky were attentive without being intrusive. I would highly recommend the restaurant. The Caravan Site was also well maintained; the owners are obviously ex caravanners and know what is required. Each pitch has its own water supply, waste and electric supply. David is careful to clean and sanitise the contact points on each pitch after they have been vacated to ensure no spread of the virus which is most commendable.

Me, my partner & our two children visited today for a lovely lunch. I cannot stress enough how great the hosts were. They were more than welcoming, and went out of their way to make our visit special. The food was absolutely delicious 10/10 and had great options on the menu. The restaurant and gardens were lovely, so very interesting and lots to look at. The building was also kept very clean. We really enjoyed our visit and would definitely go back. Our son told us ‘this is the best lunch ever’. Thank you both so much for your hospitality.

Nos alojamos en el CL - club de caravanas y autocaravanas - al lado del hotel. Como estábamos lejos de otras instalaciones, decidimos comer en el restaurante. Sin embargo, estaba lleno.Cuando intenté reservar para el campamento, la señora fue menos que acogedora. Sin embargo, el caballero fue muy amable. No mencionó que el restaurante estaba lleno, así que como era un lunes por la noche, supusimos que estaríamos bien. Cuando entré más tarde, la misma mujer volvió a ser menos que acogedora y pareció deleitarse al decir que estaban completamente ocupados.Bueno, siempre hay algo a mano en la autocaravana y simplemente no nos quedaremos allí de nuevo.

Hotel ist sehr abgelegen jedoch sehr sauber und die Besitzer sind sehr liebevoll vor alles die Frau des Hauses.Essen ist hervorragend. Preis ist sehr angemessen.

Realmente nos encantó quedarnos aquí. La habitación era muy limpia y espaciosa, me encantó tener una entrada privada también. La habitación se oscurece por completo, lo que visitar en julio es una gran ventaja. Nuestro anfitrión tenía muchos buenos consejos para las áreas circundantes y nos ayudó a ver cosas que probablemente no tendríamos. El bar, sala de estar y comedor son preciosos! ! Me encantó toda la decoración! ¡Ah, ojalá nos hubiéramos quedado más tiempo!

Estuvimos dos noches alojados en el hotel y ha sido la mejor estancia en mucho tiempo, los propietarios son personas encantadoras dispuestas a ayudarte en lo que sea en todo momento para hacer de tu estancia lo más agradable y cómoda posible, de hecho, nos ayudaron a mejorar la ruta que ya teníamos planeada indicando caminos pintorescos y poco transitados que te ofrecían las mejores vistas del lago Ness y alrededores. 100% recomendable y sin duda si volvemos a Escocia nos alojaremos de nuevo. The Steading legt besonderen Wert darauf, die mitgebrachte Zeit mit Ruhe zu verbringen. Bereits der Empfang war sehr herzlich - und irgendwie hatte man auch das Gefühl, eine kleine Zeitreise gemacht zu haben. Vor dem Essen nimmt man noch ganz entspannt einen Drink ein, bestellt auf dem Sofa sitzend sein Abendessen und wird dann zum Tisch geführt. Das Essen war immer sehr lecker! Geschmacklich einfach gelungen. Das Zimmer war sehr sauber und geräumig. Das Bad wurde zwar nicht sonderlich warm, aber darüber sehe ich bei all den anderen guten Dingen gern hinweg. Die Aussicht war hervorragend und bot die Möglichkeit, gemütlich wandern oder spazieren zu gehen. Wer Ruhe sucht, findet sie dort auch! Für uns war es ideal.

Deliciosa comida casera! Realmente precioso y muy bien presentados. Fantástico hogareño y relajado ambiente. Nos alojamos en la zona de caravanas cl pero nos las arreglamos para exprimir en una cena. Todos fueron muy amables y la comida estaban entre los mejores que hemos tenido.

Hotel perdu dans les contrées du Loch Ness entouré de prés avec des moutons, des vaches ainsi qu'un loch, tenu par un couple chaleureux et très gentil.

Service impeccable, souriant. Cuisine uniquement avec des produits locaux. Excellente viande. Très bon saumon. Prix raisonnable. Ne pas hésiter à y faire étape.

Alle Räume wurden mit sehr viel Liebe eingerichtet. Die Inhaber waren supernett.Wir wären gerne noch länger geblieben.

Het restaurant heeft een uitstekende kaart en een prachtige wijnkaart. De sfeer in het restaurant is echt typisch Schots. Mooie tapijten en mooi opgemaakte tafels. Het eten is van heel goede kwaliteit en smaakt prima. Alleen grote eters kunnen waarschijnlijk de drie gangen op krijgen. De bediening is heel erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Dit restaurant is echt een aanrader voor mensen die lekker willen tafelen.

L'établissement en lui même est correct et propre..Bien entretenu. Par contre l'accueil est très "militaire" ,les horaires ne laissent aucune souplesse,nous sommes rentrés un soir à 22h la dame nous attendait dans son canapé,elle est allée vite fait chercher la clé de notre chambre et elle est sortie très vite dehors nous la donner.pas moyen d'échanger avec elle.Le matin au petit déjeuner très sévère aussi,il ne faut pas être trop gourmand ni lui poser trop de questions car elle soupire et lève les yeux au ciel. Clairement les touristes français ne les intéressent pas car on a vite vu la différence quand des anglais se sont installés à table ,elle était très souriante,et agréable.bref si vous êtes français passez votre chemin.on a pourtant l'habitude de discuter avec les gens du pays quand nous voyageons mais là ,pas possible.

In zo'n verloren gat zou je dergelijke accommodatie niet verwachten. Vriendelijke ontvangst, je kan er lekker eten en ontbijten maar bovenal kan je er van de rust genieten en een zalige nachtrust is er verzekerd. Ruime kamers, de onze was zelfs met jacuzzi. Wel de typische Schotse aankleding maar dat kan de pret niet bederven. Enkel onze televisie hebben we niet gebruikt. Zeker een aanrader voor een rustmoment na het bezoeken van het eiland Sky!

Gelegen 20 minuten buiten Inverness in the middle of nowhere. Wat natuurlijk ook zijn charme heeft. Héél rustig omgeven door mooie natuur.

+++++ Das beste Hotel unserer Rundreise. Nettes, sehr freundliches Familien-Personal. Zimmer sind extrem gemütlich und sauber. Das Ambiente im Restaurant unübertroffen, ebenso wie die stilvolle Beratung beim Speisen. Die Preise sind allerdings gewöhnungsbedürftig. Der Service ist außergewöhnlich gut und extrem kundenorientiert. Genügend Parkplätze. Sehr gute Beratung was Ausflugsmöglichkeiten und Karten-Material dazu betrifft. Frühstück sensationell, wir vergeben gern 5 Sterne, ohne Abzug.

Onderweg naar Inverness hebben we in dit hotel overnacht en ook gegeten. Gelukkig dat ze nog een hotelkamer hadden, want daardoor konden we er nog eten, normaal alleen op reservering. Fabelachtige menukaart en feestelijk bereid. Een aanrader, maar niet goedkoop.

Después de varios días recorriendo Escocia volvíamos al sur, bien al final. Después de visitar el zócalo de Inverness y el campo de batalla de Culloden estábamos la noche cerca de Loch Ness.

Tuvimos una cena maravillosa aquí. Es un poco fuera del camino, pero vale la pena el esfuerzo de ir allí. Plato de salmón ahumado, carne de venado y plato postre tarta de limón para. Todo fresco y muy sabroso. Los propietarios son encantadores y amables, te hacen sentir en casa y a gusto. No hay prisa, relájese y disfrute de la comida. Tome un café en el salón y disfrutar de las vistas de la campiña.

we had a wonderful time at the steadings. David and Mary are so kind and conscientious. My wife has food allergies and they went above and beyond to take care of her. the rooms were nice and comfy. lots of good food and drink and friendly people. we just love Scotland. we were hunting red grouse at a nearby estate so the Steadings was a great base of operation.

Not far from The Loch Ness, this B&B stays in the middle of nature! A beautiful traditional rock built house, with cows and ships around. The owners are very kind and they really take care of the guests! Before having dinner, you're welcome in the bar to have a drink. And after dinner, you're pleased to relax in the lounge looking at the nature view. The room is also nice, with a electronic chimney in it !

Lovely weekend. Clean cozy and welcoming. Excellent food. Beautiful setting. Very good value for money. Attentive hosts. Couldn't ask for more. Will be back

What a fab find this hotel was, beautiful location and very friendly staff. Room was very spacious and bed very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious.

A large cycling event in Inverness meant everything was very busy in the city. We booked a table here and weren't disappointed. Don't be put off by the back roads, it doesn't take too long and its a very newly laid road. By the time you reach the Steadings you'll have driven through some impressive scenery. The setting is as good as you'll find. From Inverness it took less than half an hour.The venue is also a small hotel and all residents were eating out on this particular night (a Saturday). Despite being the only guests both Mary and the cosy interior made us feel very comfortable. The inside maintains some rustic charm of the old steadings with the wooden beams on the roof but is cosy with nice carpets and real fireplaces. Given the setting we could have sat sipping drinks all evening by the windows.The menu was traditional and much expected of a highland restaurant (plenty of fish and game). Can't fault any of the food we had (smoked trout, whitebait, game casserole, braised lamb shank, cheese and biscuits). It tasted fresh and was nicely cooked. The menu seems to change which I always think is a good sign. Also a good range of wines and whiskies, our host Mary was very knowledgeable and helpful. She really helped give the place a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.All in all a lovely dining experience that left us wanting to go back and book one of the rooms!! Prices were reasonable and much in line with what you would expect, definitely worth it. Can't believe it wasn't busier.

We stayed here four nights and used the hotel as our base for touring the Highlands.Host: Charming, knowledgeable and professional, the owner/operator/chef Mary and David Allen run a beautiful, very hospitable inn. They had information at the ready no matter what our questions were...routing, choosing the right scotch, where to buy a cashmere. The service reflected their commitment to excellence. They are lovely people who were delightful conversationalists.Rooms: Very comfortable, gorgeous star views at night and grouse and sheep strolling in the hills during the day. The rooms were very quiet and we slept well on good beds. Food: Fabulous. We ate here for breakfast each day, David made even simple porridge a treat. We had dinner three of the four nights and were treated to exceptionally well prepared and delicious fresh dinners. Varied produce, fish which was just out of this world and very good desserts. Even if you can't stay here, try to dine here.Service: Very polishes and well trained. Jack the principal server and housekeeper was a charming guy.Atmosphere: Very friendly but not hovering attention. The bar was a great area to visit with other guests and enjoy a nice fire...and very good drink choices. During our stay most guests were Europeans and we enjoyed meeting them as well.In short, I loved it!

Abbiamo scoperto questo ristorante perchè consigliati dalla proprietaria del nostro B&B, che si è preoccupata di prenotarci un tavolo. L'accoglienza della signora Mary è stata superiore alle aspettative. Abbiamo ordinato comodamente seduti su un divano, per poi degustare piatti ben preparati e presentati. Da citare lo starter a base di trota affumicata e la coscia di agnello in salsa di frutti di bosco. Assolutamente consigliato se vi trovate a passare per la campagna a sud-est di Inverness

We were recommended this place through a friend of the family and decided to try it out. We booked in for an evening meal and were certainly not disappointed. It was a fantastic meal, cooked perfectly using locally/Scottish sourced produce and the service was outstanding.Having lived abroad for a long time we appreciated the warm cosy feel of the restaurant and loved being able to relax and enjoy the wonderful views with a nice glass or two after the meal.Will definitely try to book again when we are back in Scotland.

We stayed here in early July on the caravan park to the side of the main hotel. That in itself is one of the best small sites we have stayed on. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and we were both very impressed, not only with the selection, but also the quality of the food. The staff were extremely friendly, very helpful and helped make the whole dining experience. The owner, David is also the chef and a very good one at that, despite not being. Trained chef. The trout starter was certainly one of the best I have ever tasted with none of the muddiness sometimes found in trout. The lamb main dish was perfectly cooked and presented with just the right amount of fresh vegetables and a superb sauce. My wife also thoroughly enjoyed her venison, which again was cooked perfectly. We followed this with coffee and a couple of single malts from their excellent selection. This was served in their conservatory which has fantastic views over the hills to the back of the hotel. Overall we will certainly be back and will have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, restaurant and small caravan site to friends.

Went there by shear chance , were driving by and decided to stop by for an evening meal. The interiors are beautifully done and the food was good. There was very good selection of drinks and the the service was exceptional . The owners Mary and David are lovely people , had a interesting conversation with Mary. Very well travelled and interesting couple. Lovely place overall . A must visit if one is in the area.

We had an evening meal at this hotel/restaurant. The propriietor was friendly and helpful, as was the one member of staff. The food quality was good, and the menu offered a good selection. Prices were on the expensive side. I would not hesitate in visiting again. Lovely location, but a bit off the beaten track.

Just came back from a trip to scotland and stayed in the steading Grouse & trout hotel. The manager was super friendly and have me a good contect of what scotland is all about. I already miss the place, stayed over three days and slept like a baby. if you are into nature, birds, walking and beautifull sceneries this is the place for you. I will be back for sure!!!

This place is all about location,location, location. The interiors are of a very high standard and everything is good value albeit that drinks seem to be on the pricey side. The place is always warm against the coldest conditions, so that is important. Owners Mary and David are very professional and experienced, guests are treated very well. If you want reliable service and accommodation which is always pristine amongst breathtaking views, then look no further

Quest'estate ho visitato la Scozia con la mia famiglia e per puro caso siamo capitati in questo ristorante, che è anche hotel. E' un po' fuori dai percorsi turistici classici, forse per questo spicca nel panorama complessivamente deludente della cucina scozzese.Abbiamo apprezzato uno stufato di cervo in salsa di vino rosso e frutti bosco delizioso e abbondante e un dolce al cioccolato bianco davvero eccellente. Il locale è molto caratteristico, con arredamento classico inglese ed il servizio è stato molto curato.Preparatevi però ad un conto un po' salato: circa 40 sterline a testa per 2 portate e 1 calice di vino rosso.
