Went here with a full coach party. Not enough staff to handle the numbers. Food was late and was cold. Staff did the best they could in the limited circumstances

Our company had a brilliant staff summer party at The Star today! The chef did a delicious buffet and the venue was so helpful and accommodating for our party! The food really is special and it's a lovely bright pub to spend the day in.

Another great evening at The Star. This time I had a lovely summery dish made of squid, spicy chorizo, peas and diced fried polenta. What a clever, and more importantly, flavoursome combination. Well done chef! The bar staff recommended a glass of Picpoul to match the food which suited the dish very well. See you all again very soon!

Amazing food served with love! We had roast lamb which was very succulent! The chef came out of the kitchen to introduce himself and told us a bit about the menus. Good fusion of Mediterranean and French cuisine prepared by a Moroccan chef. The service was faultless from start to finish. The manager was very courteous and knowledgeable specially about the wines.We travelled from Bushey to try the food and will definitely frequent the restaurant more often. Sam

Me and my friend had the best time at the Star ! Fiona was amazing. Did the whole service by herself and was friendly and mindful of all the guests. The food was amazing and so were the wines. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone going through the area. If not, it’s absolutely a reason to go ! x

Lovely pub in Highgate serving excellent food, much better than the usual pub fare. I've been there twice and I really enjoyed the mussels with white wine and shallots, the soups of the day, the duck and the roasted lamb. Friendly staff and extremely reasonable prices, especially for London standards.

Miriam and her lovely Scottish colleague looked after me very well. I attended a 10 wedding anniversary as a photographer documenting the event. Great venue, amazing food, and hospitality. Thank you once again!!

The Star has better food than any place within a one mile radius. Because it’s on a quiet street—Chester Road—many don’t know about this hidden gem. The menu changes often. The chef is a true artist. He is also approachable and friendly. Everyone who works at the Star is genuine. It’s a great place to come with friends or meet new people. Definitely a 6/6 star sort of place for food and atmosphere. And yet the price is completely reasonable.

I’ve come for dinner during the week a few times and the food/service has been amazing each time. I’ve had the monkfish, duck and skate dishes - each has been super tasty/filling. The desserts are delicious too. I look forward to trying the Sunday roast soon.

This is a nice looking pub inside, but the food is cold and the service is substandard. I was really looking forward to Sunday lunch there and taking my mother on Mother’s Day. I went to that pub specifically because I saw that it catered for vegetarians with your Sunday roast option, which was a baked aubergine dish “coming with roasted veg and Yorkshire, puddings and potatoes”. I was then very disappointed to have two plates put down in front of us with just the baked aubergine dish, one Yorkshire pudding (which was dry and old tasting) and two roast potatoes. There was no roasted veg whatsoever and so I asked the waitress if that was coming. She said “oh, I can arrange for that to come down too”. I was slightly taken back that she was suggesting it was additional to what we had already ordered a small dish with carrots and what I think was cabbage arrived, and that was it. I could not believe this was the selection of roasted veg available on Mother’s Day. Moreover, the veg were not at all warm. It was extremely disappointing. I told the waitress I was not happy and she said “don’t worry you won’t be paying for it” and I said “but it was included in the main” and she didn’t answer. When the waitress came back to the table, I referred her to the menu which makes clear the roasted veg is included, and she told me that she had mentioned that to the Chef, and he said “ I didn’t think it was necessary to include for a vegetarian because they already have enough vegetable on the plate” with an aubergine! I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My mother then wanted to order a dessert and asked for custard instead of ice cream to come with her pear tart as she wanted something warm. I couldn’t believe the custard was cold. I immediately asked her if she wanted me to raise a complaint about it and she told me not to worry about it, but I was disgusted, that that should happen too. We ordered coffee and tea at the same time. When the bill came, I had to ask the waitress if there had been any gesture given for the issues experienced at which point, she answered “yes you weren’t charged for the coffee or tea”. She seemed annoyed that I was asking, but nobody had actually told me that that’s what was happening and frankly, I didn’t like her attitude. I cannot believe I paid £41 for today’s experience. The food was substandard and cold and I never want to be exposed to this type of experience ever again. I wrote to them before putting this on TripAdvisor, to give the Manager an opportunity to rectify this properly first only to be met with well you should have said it was cold at the time and we would have sorted it - we had already waited ages for it and Mum didnt want to wait EVEN longer for them to heat it, and frankly this reflects the bad attitude she had in the pub. No attempt to acknowledge wrongs, or be sorry for ruining our Mother's Day. If you are vegetarian - do NOT go here! And if you want to go somewhere that cares about customer service, do NOT go here. Oh if you like your food warm - it probably won't be! DO NOT EAT HERE!

The food is exemplary. You would not be disappointed being served their mussels or their venison in a high-end French restaurant. Who doesn’t want to eat this high quality food in a warm and comfortable pub setting?

We had another excellent Sunday lunch here. This place is a little gem with a good menu, excellent food and a very friendly staff team. We love it as our local and it just gets better and better.

We met up with friends for a drink and then the two of us had dinner. The food was excellent and the service was incredibly friendly and efficient. There is a generally colourful and lively ambience. I can highly recommend The Star for social get together and especially for dining out.

Lovely quiet pub with excellent service and great food. I’ve only been in once for food and it was on St Patrick’s Day a while ago for their special menu and had the best oysters (in Guinness!) really unexpected and delicious! But it’s also a good spot for a quiet drink, with some sofas and armchairs as well as the wooden tables and chairs. Usually they have fresh flowers and candles on the tables - it’s charming whilst retaining a local feel.

Popped in to The Star on Saturday lunch time and am so pleased I did. Ended up having a three course lunch and shared two bottles of wine! Also met the owner and his family which was a nice surprise. I can highly recommend the tarte tatin if you have any room left!

Ceco is the perfect host. His food is amazing but not overpriced at all. We stayed in highgate for a week and ate here 4 times. You are instantly made to feel welcome, part of the family. Nothing is too much trouble, all the staff are friendly, polite and very hardworking. Dog friendly is an understatement, ceco brings the dogs smoked duck!! This place is a hidden gem 💎 If I lived on chester Road I'd be eating here every night!

This is a FANTASTIC place to eat! The ambience is so friendly and the food (cooked by the AMAZING Ceco) is exceptional. I absolutely loved our Evening there and cannot wait to visit again!

What a fantastic feast of goodness next to Godliness. I ordered the smoked haddock with spinach and poached egg and a magical sauce. I nearly ordered a 2nd plate ! Chef Zico knows his produce, fresh vibrant flavours. An unmissable experience I can't recommend The Star (Restaurant) pub enough ! Gastro experience to behold, and the wine selection is superb too 👌

Love it here, my friends and I stop her a few times per week. The food is delicious and the staff is very friendly. The beer is cold, the cider is cloudy.

Absolutely lovely hidden gem well worth traveling for! We were visiting local friends who brought us here last night. It's a beautifully decorated pub with friendly service, quality drinks, a great atmosphere and incredible food. We had a deliciously tender lamb tagine, and a variety of steak, salmon and sea bass dishes. The quality and flavours were top notch. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

This place is frequently empty or only has a few people inside. Staff are lovely. The menu isn't really exciting, but it's enjoyable pub food. The few times I have visited since covid it's been okay. Not an overly stimulating drink offer either. But without much traffic I guess there isn't the shout out for it. I will continue to visit as it's in the neighborhood. Would be great to see more people there.

Amazing place! Great for drinks but the food is the best part! Top quality dishes, must try the sea bass, mussels are the best I have tried in London, smoke rilletes and the steak simply delicious. Enjoyed my Sunday Roast. Meat was cooked perfectly, carrots and potatoes were lovely as well…Just wish the potatoes were crispy and golden as they were soggy. Apart from that would recommend and will be visiting again

This pub has re-opened its doors end of 2022 and I have had the occasion to go there several times while I was staying in the street nearby. I must say it is an absolute gem hidden between Archway and Tufnell Park stations with locals who now regroup there on a regular basis. Very nice staff, always friendly and welcoming. The food is just delicious whether you'd go for meat, salads or desserts (this crumble OMG !!!). The atmosphere is quite cosy, listening to nice jazz music while you may decide to switch from your dinner table over to the fireplace sitting on a nice chesterfield sofa and enjoy your pint or coffee. Kudos to the Star team, I had not felt this good in a pub for a while. We will definitely come back! :)

Excellent Restaurant !!! Went for my mum’s birthday, ordered the veal and steak which were prefectly chosen and cooked. Will definitely come again as the service was really good and the really nice chef even came to our table to say hi. Had a really nice time, The Star serves both quantity and quality.

This is a recently reopened pub - their kitchen is not open until next week, so I can't give a 5 star until that truely opens. Otherwise the staff are friendly, they have two ales on, a small back garden and their main space includes a working piano and ample seating - definitely one to watch!

What a fantastic boozer! This is one of the good 'uns!! Very friendly staff and a wide selection of quality beers and great food. There's something here for everyone. The atmosphere can't be beaten either - a friendly, sociable mix of people, and on the night we went there was live music. If you didn't fancy that however you could always escape to the quiet beer garden at the back. This is a proper pub run by great people that really know what they're doing - if you're in the area, you really should give it a try! You won't be disappointed!

I made a recent visit with friends and had a superb evening. Excellent pub with a great atmosphere and fantastic staff. In particular a mention for the manager ‘Roxanne’ who I found professional and very knowledgeable. Nothing was too much trouble and she regularly checked in with customers to ensure everyone was happy and well looked after. Highly recommended for a visit and I will definitely be returning again soon.

Friendly neighbourhood pub. Visited on NYE with friends. Bar staff were so attentive and made our night.

Unfortunately there was a little bit of an odd smell which lingered in the pub which ruined the experience. Perhaps it was a bad day. Great location for the locals of Dartmouth Park HIll however there are others like the Lord Palmerston and the St Johns Tavern which pip it for me.

Always a nice, friendly and warm atmosphere here. Highly recommend a pit stop here or a relaxed afternoon/evening pint.

My daughter had her wedding "after party" here. The food was delicious pub food - bangers and mash! There is a small outdoor area which was nice as it was summer time. Staff very helpful

Use to be a great local pub, been using it for the last 5 years but lately it has never got half the beers on , just don't know what is going on , it seems as though the landlord has lost all interest and needs to let go to someone who cares for the local community

The owner Duncan Watson Stewart os a crude and very rude man also think he may have been on drugs due to his eyeballs popping out of this head the bar man also tried to under change me by £4 hardly any drinks in this place and it smells like dead rat in the pub

Atmistphere was a bit strange - a quiet place but ideal for catching up with friends and playing board games. The staff were very friendly and attentive but I sense not that experienced- drinks and food took a long time to come. However when it did come it was very good and the portions were really massive. I think it might be busier on weekends. Excellent music on the system though!

Lovely pub. Staff was friendly and beer was lively. Didn't try the gin. We wanted to order food, but gave a miss as plenty of people were waiting for their food. I might try again, not too soon though.

Visité el pub por primera vez en diciembre de 2018. No tenían cervezas de barril. Eso es justo un pub sin cerveza de barril!Luego tuvo que esperar mientras la camarera iba y compraba agua tónica, por lo que tampoco tienen tónica de barril.No sé por qué, pero revisé semanas después. Tenían una gama de espíritus muy limitada, los estantes están vacíos, las pocas botellas que tienen solo tienen una cantidad muy pequeña de espíritu. Luego, a las 6:30 pm, dejaron de servir la comida después de servir solo a una persona en la comida de nuestra fiesta. Razón - el gas dejó de funcionar!¿Quién dirige este lugar?Ciertamente no están haciendo un balance de inventario y manteniendo su equipo en orden. Parece que este pub es un frente para algunos detrás de las escenas de negocios dudosos

The team at The Star were wonderful hosts for our wedding reception. We received a fantastic service ensuring everything ran smoothly and everyone was well looked after. The food and drink were great and the venue proved perfect with a large main space for dancing and a beautiful gin bar on the first floor for those that needed a rest. Visité el pub con mis dos hijos pequeños. El servicio que recibí de los dos empleados del bar fue excelente, pero cuando llevé a mis hijos a usar el baño, había un roedor en la base del inodoro. Fue una experiencia aterradora y definitivamente no lo será. volviendo allí

This used to be a lovely pub and my local when I lived in Dartmouth Park. I visited yesterday after nearly 2 years away and was very disappointed to see how much this place has changed. I got the feeling management were waiting to close down the pub which is really sad given how great this used to be. During my visit yesterday there were hardly any beers left on tap and the pub only offered 2 white wines, one of which they had to dispose of as undrinkable. This is despite a fairly long wine list on the website and I have to add that the 2 wines available weren’t even on the wine list! We had roast and, despite portions being fairly generous, the quality of the food was very poor. The pork belly was replaced by 2 thick and dry slices of pork loin, a different cut of meat altogether. The potatoes were soggy and the Yorkshire pudding a small flat thing. It’s such a pity to see such a great pub become a shadow of its former self. I hope management will put some efforts in to bring it back to its former glory.

Nice pub with very high windows that let in a lot of light. Good drinks but wow the service was slow and uncoordinated. Waited a good 45 mins for some bangers and mash although there were maybe 2 other tables that had ordered food.

Last two visits, there has been so little beer on sale, we have left. Also, virtually empty. What is going on here, are they deliberately running it down? Staff don’t seem to care either. Used to be such a good place for food and drink.

Looks like the place was shutting up shop.... £4.80 for a can of Guinness....they do/did have Tiger on Draught though......although everything was off when I turned up.....???

Comida terrible, mal servicio. El lugar parece que está en sus últimas piernas. Realmente fue un completo desastre. Menú corto pero aun así algunos artículos eran escasos. Éramos un grupo de unas 20 personas, no había nadie más allí, y la comida llegó de la cocina en dribs y monos, así que algunas personas solo recibieron su plato principal mientras que otras estaban terminando.

The bar maid had no idea what she was doing, it took forever to get a G&T. The tomic came from a large bottle of tesco tonic and it was flat and she was confused when I asked for a new one. Two other members of staff didn't help. This was on a late Sunday afternoon with hardly any customers!

We visit this place on a regular basis and decided to hold our wedding here as it has always been such a lovely place. The way the staff decorated the place was amazing, food was excellent and delivered to our guests promptly, the whole setting was just brilliant and it made our day. Our guests called us the week after to say what an amazing day they had and how great the venue was, I would fully recommend this venue for a wedding or any occasion come to that, great place.

We went last Christmas when it had snowed heavily. It was one of the best roasts out I'd had which is why we returned today. Service was hit and miss, food was also hit and miss. We went for the rare roast beef which was the opposite of the description and nothing was particularly hot. Sadly, there was no atmosphere... Which was the final sign to me that this establishment has changed. Still expensive. Unfortunately, for me, if it remains as is it's not worth it.

Poor. Zero atmosphere, not helped by the fact they kept constantly skipping songs on the background music and had a weird Benny Hill compilation projected on the wall, which was just creepy. Food was hugely disappointing - nothing like what was offered on the online menu. Baked camembert was lukewarm and only half-melted, cold meats clearly straight out of a packet but also passed their sell by date as the edges were crusty and hard. Worst of all was a burger for £13.50, which suggested a nice home-made patty, but was clearly an out of the packet monstrosity from a supermarket. Utterly unappetising and we stopped eating them after one bite. Seriously disappointing.

Fabulous little pub tucked away in a great part of London. Plus the gin bar upstairs. It’s friendly and a great pub atmosphere. Food is great too. Especially if Erik is cooking!

So having been here previously, we expected a better experience. I am hoping this was a one off. But today was awful. I was with my friend, a dog and two small children. We had called ahead to say we were coming for food.So here goes. We sat down where we were asked to sit. I knew the dog needed water. So I went to the bar. The lady asked me to wait and so I did. Some 10 minutes later I was told the dog bowls were all out but she would find one. She did it had almost no water, but she left it and said come to me if this is not enough. So I did. There was a small schnauzer that would not leave our dog alone. The owner was "hammered" at the bar and did little to take care of his dog. This guy got so bad we had to tell the bar staff he was stumbling everywhere and having to hold his shorts up. Eventually the bar staff asked him to control his dog. He didn't. He eventually was asked to leave. He did.Ordered our food from the Sunday roasts. Off the staff went. Few minutes later, same lady comes back and says sorry no chicken. OK. We ordered something else. Few minutes later no second choice either. Bar staff customer service was very poor. Food was OK.I really hope it was a bad day.
