A lovely experience at The Star. Friendly welcome with great service at the bar. This was followed by excellent service in the restaurant. The food was truly delicious, with good portion sizes. It was clear the chef had planned the specials well using quality ingredients. Will happily return soon.

We are regular customers and have always enjoyed the service and surroundings of the pub! It helps the food is so stunning ! We love the Sunday roast with unlimited roast potatoes, cauliflower, veg and gravy but we both opted for the fish and chips , absolutely stunning meal! The star you always get it right!

We hosted a party at our house and the pub, which has an excellent and well sourced menu for those dining in, did a cracking catered lunch for us to take out, which was very well received by our guests. Would highly recommend to anyone reasonably local for their parties and events.

Been here a couple of times but never for a Sunday roast, we live in Epsom so took a good 40 minutes journey, but was so worth it, starters were amazing I had the goats cheese and asparagus tart and my partner had the sardines which were delicious, mains were roast pork with crackling and roast sirloin of beef, can honestly say it’s probably the best roast dinner I’ve had out, the cauliflower cheese was excellent, was also asked if we wanted anymore roast potatoes or vegetables which is a great touch, staff were lovely and the prices are really resonable, will definitely be making another visit

From pulling into this lovely village pub and seeing the gorgeous flowers and generous garden I knew I was in for a treat if they take that much care of the aesthetic. Walked in and greeted at the bar in a friendly manner, then shown to a nice table for two. Staff very approachable, have great knowledge and prompt service all round on what was probably one of the busiest days ever (Father’s Day) the volume of people did not cast a shadow on their ability to give the best experience I’ve had in a while. We had the bread and scallops to start, they were cooked perfectly and the romesco sauce was to die for. Followed by a roast chicken for my son and roast lamb special for me, the lamb was soo perfect that my son ended up stealing my food so we both shared. Lamb was incredible. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle with garlic and herb flavours, the veg cooked perfectly and the cauli cheese was so good I could’ve had just a plate of that, wasn’t written on the menu so an extra given for free where many other places charge you in excess of £6 is value for money. Finished with a coffee and ice cream. Food incredible. Service attentive but no intrusive. All staff smiling when you looked at them knew it’s a good place to work and they enjoy being there. Thanks for having me The Star, I’ll be back!

My son and his wife moved to Witley and this is their local, "WOW " what a local!! They treated me to dinner, and it was absolutely fantastic, the staff were polite and very helpful, even added some peas even though they were not on the menu, the roast potatoes were oozing deliciousness, the Pork was cooked to perfection, the Yorkshire pudding was huge and as for the Pigs in blankets I have not stopped talking to people about them. I am being treated for father's day, fantastic wish I lived closer. For the quality of service and food I would have paid a lot more, service is included in the bill which is a shame as I would have added more.

Good food and attentive staff, but at priced as a 'Gastro pub' well above typical pub prices, making it unsuitable for other than special occasions. I personally seriously dislike the practice of adding a service charge (12.5%) and would rather it was added to the menu prices and the staff paid properly.

We booked a table for 16 for a golden wedding celebration. We had all the conservatory, and the Star did an excellent job arranging this event, from the name cards with what food had been ordered by each guest, to getting all the food out for everyone and it all still being hot. The standard of all the food was excellent. The service from Alex and his organisation skills were top notch. With Alex and Donnas skills it all helped to give my sister and all of us a memorable evening. Thank you.

Very disappointed with our visit, we sat in the bar area and waited for drinks, husbands beer was not right even after 2pints pulled he had to settle for a different choice. We then waited a fair while to place our order for food, I ordered the plaice but asked for the samphire not to be added but was not offered an alternative , husbands burger was fine but we did have a further 45 mins wait for food to arrive. Even with a free glass of processco which came with my dish and them giving my husband his beer for free the meal was still quite expensive and they also charge for service even if they didn’t give any. Needless to say we will not be returning.

As locals we have eaten at The Star a few times, the last time was in the autumn when we had been happy with the food…..so I didn’t have any hesitation in booking a table to celebrate my Birthday with the family. Some of the table ordered the roast, while others ordered from the Sunday evening menu. My roast was cold and I had to ask for the meal to be reheated, but it really was a disappointment, the sausage was hard and over cooked, the meat was tasteless and the vegetables, savoy cabbage and carrots had that strange smell which vegetables tend to get when they have been re-heated :-( the cauliflower cheese had the most peculiar flavour, and with hardly any sauce. The rest of the table who had the roast were also very disappointed with the quality of the meal, the only person who was happy with their meal was my son who had the mussels. When the waitress came to the table to clear the plates we were asked if everything was ok, we mentioned that we were disappointed with the meal, and she sent over obviously a senior member of staff, ( short hair female in a waistcoat) who proceeded to tell us that they never have any complaints about the food and offered no apology, she just went into detail about how many covers they had done that day and that no one had complained …..she really did made an awkward situation even more difficult, with her confrontational condescending attitude! We certainly won’t be returning to the Star again, which is a shame as the building is lovely, and we live within walking distance, but we all thought the meal was over priced for below average food.

Had lunch at the Star with a 97 year old friend and his daughter, service was refreshingly good, the table was discreetly near the disabled loo, the request for a white sauce to make the fish easier to eat was met with 'absolutely no problem' and a subsequent jovial request for a chocolate to go with the coffee was met with a totally unexpected and impromptu chocolate brownie cut into 3:with 3 chocolate straws! Staff courtesy was delightful, it often takes very little to turn a modest dining experience into a memorable lunch, but this was certainly our experience here. Thank you.

Absolutely awful. Food mediocre and the service was abysmal. We bought Travelzoo vouchers and upon reflection, wish we hadn't bothered. I saw our main meals trying to be served to another table...tried to get the waiters attention, by which time most of the other guests were laughing as he took them back to the kitchen. Consequently, stone cold when we eventually received them. Dessert - nothing to say. Except long overdue, cold and unexceptional. Oh dear.

We came back to the Star as we visited last year and enjoyed the food, however totally different experience had this evening, had a drink at the bar then we were offered our table shortly after. The restaurant at this time was very quiet, we ordered our starters and mains, i also ordered a white wine to have with my starter unfortunately this came after we finished our starters. I then ordered a glass of red for the sharing châteaubriand in advance, once again after asking twice my wine did not arrive. We had finished our mains and I told the waitress not to worry about bringing the wine as we had finished our meal, she apologised and said it would be on the house so I accepted, then she came back and said her manager said it won’t be on the house. We asked for the bill which had a 12.5% service charge which we clearly didn’t think was acceptable so I covered the meal and left cash, we left the pub to then see the waitress looking for us outside saying I didn’t leave the correct money and told me to come back into the restaurant, so I got led through the bar into the restaurant to see the manager, I was then told after the manager had counted the money that it was in fact correct, without an apology or any pleasantries whatsoever, in fact I found her to be extremely rude. The food was good and the one waitress serving was great but we felt she may have been put under pressure from the manager as she seemed very nervous. We do not feel the manager should be front of house and is letting the place down. Definitely won’t return due to this poor experience but well done to the chefs.

Just don't bother! It could be a great pub, but it has no atmosphere and a limited menu. I just wish they could make it better!

Just back in after a nice supper at the star. Great burger. I was with friends who also enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and warm open fire. Enjoyed the best of burgers and a nice merlot sat infront of an open log fire. Peace!

The Star is a lovely local pub providing good value and very tasty pub grub. I've eaten in her a few times and always enjoyed the food and I have a particular liking for their burgers which are home made and prepared to perfection. Good...

A roaring fire on a wet Sunday, with a warm greeting from the landlady Karen and excellent service from her daughter and Owen. The roast beef was awesome, with plenty of vegetables including amazing parsnips. I'm not sure what happened when the others who've complained...

Didn't have food, but menu looked good. Serviced quick relaxing drink on a Saturday with me wife.

Very good choice and quality food. Have been a few times now r the service is always unfriendly. Would come more often otherwise.

This is a delightful pub in a pleasant setting. I went for dinner with a friend and had such a great time. My Pumpkin Soup starter was warming and delicious, and the main course of broccoli and “haloumi” was an exceptional plant based dish. Full of flavour and colour and substance! I couldn’t resist the chocolate mousse for pudding, which was a perfect size and so tasty. We had to round it all off with a few espresso martinis which did not disappoint. The team who looked after us were welcoming and attentive, the atmosphere cosy and comfortable. I look forward to returning!
