The Star Pub Witely in Waverley

Haven’t been here for a while, but it’s just as good as the last time we went. The food is well prepared and delicious. Service is pleasant and friendly. Atmosphere is good and a typical pub.

Made welcome as we stepped over the threshold, a cheerful staff both at the bar and in the restaurant. Service was first class and the food arrived as ordered and was well presented and where appropriate, hot. Could not have asked for more.

We met friends for a leisurely lunch as it was roughly equidistant from our respective homes. We had driven past the pub on numerous occasions and always thought how attractive it looks, with well kept floral displays outside, and usually a good number of cars parked outside indicating popularity. We were not disappointed. When I rang to make the reservation I spoke to Tom , who kindly asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. We weren't, but I appreciated the fact that had we been celebrating then this would have been acknowledged. Without exception the staff were friendly,pleasant and professional. We availed ourselves of the set lunch , after a round of drinks. As a designated driver my chosen soft drink would be tomato juice and in many establishments I find this is not available. However, The Star concocted a very acceptable Virgin Mary which i thoroughly enjoyed. We all agreed that the food was delicious. My husband maybe considered the portions a little smaller than he is accustomed to but he had to admit that it was all beautifully presented and very flavoursome. Whilst we were there we were advised that the menu was changing the following day, and the staff were in fact having a briefing on all the items due to be introduced. The friendly young man who carried all the samples past our table en route to his colleagues was good enough to stop by to show us each item and explain it to us. We were impressed that all the staff are obviously sufficiently well briefed to answer any customer enquiries regarding the menu, and we resolved to return soon as it all looked so delicious that we would like to sample it ourselves!

Delicious food and a menu a bit different from our usual pubs around Guildford. The staff were efficient and vey friendly. Pretty interior.

Popped in for Christmas drink on Christmas eve, was very busy, but I expected that, we only had drinks, and were not expected to get seated as bar area is smaller than restaurant, but didn't mind that, staff were lovely, apologised for wait on serving, but again, could clearly see all busy, and we were happy to be chatting with all the locals, e ermine in good spirits, and had lovely atmosphere. Merry Christmas to all the team.

Dropped in for a Friday night drink on the way home from a hectic week Bar area very busy but no one out the back. Asked to sit there for an hour- no it’s booked solid I was told. ( but no one is here… ). The Otter beer was hard work and too many children. Too focused on the dining side of the business I fear.

Very good food and service, sadly spoiled by rip off drink charges, £11-00 for two glasses of lime and soda water?, this is Witley not Monte Carlo!! D B
