The Star of Sall in Chesterfield

Something has changed... Unfortunately for worse. This was my go to for korma dishes for a long time. It was tasty, deep in flavour, just fingers licking, smooth and flavourful. Tried it twice in the last 3 months, and it is not good anymore! The chicken korma is just bland... No depth to it. Same with butter chicken and the texture of the dish is not the same as well. I am not sure what has changed but please bring back the old recipes!

A bit disappointed. Asked for a basic chicken curry to takeaway, but got home to find something more akin to a madras. Keema-naans not available 😭 Also added a pickle tray to my order... and got one pot of mango chutney. 😕 Front of house is v well presented... But the kitchen seems/must be in chaos. This place used to be fantastic!

We ordered takeaway. Korma along with other dishes, the korma was not a korma very spicy, and not coconut like any other korma I've had from other takeaway places, as such i didn't like it. A naan bread that we paid for was missing, I rang and they apologised and said to give them 10 mins, which I was fine with. 45 mins later still nothing, I called back, and they said the driver was on route and had left 5 mins ago. I called 15 minutes later, and shock they were closed. No driver has turned up, We will be expecting a refund for the naan bread missing from our order. Extremely poor customer service, don't lie if you have zero intention of sending out part of an order you missed in the first place. Order under the name of Scott Taylor.

We love it there. The food is amazing and the service really good. We went in a Monday so it wasn't busy but like having our own special dining experience. Highly recommended.

Had a great curry from here last night, really first class not the cheapest around but by far the best we have had for a long time. Large portions and lot's of well cooked meat. Well done 👍

Never been a lamb rogan josh, inedible, garlic Nan also inedible. Onion bargee & poppadom started were delicious, would never order from here again, disgusting

I have ordered tandoori chicken it was full of colour and can’t even eat. Very poor quality. This is the picture that I got it after washing my hands. Smells horrible with the colour.

Quick mid-week curry with some colleagues and thoroughly enjoyed it! Very quiet (we were the only people in) but it was a Wednesday evening so I can't really hold that against them! Reasonably priced and very tasty food!

Staff were very friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious. Will be returning!

Over 1 hour 40 mins of waiting for delivery. Then called them, and still not out been delivered, 2 hours for a takeaway is unacceptable on a normal day . Avoid.......

Not one for reviews but the food was that good I had to do it ! I thought my regular Indian was good but this was out of this world . Food good , staff good , nice place . Give it a try

I Ordered collection today Curry was nice. Rice was nice Peshwari nan bread was burnt and horrible Poppadoms were disgusting all they tasted of is grease they got binned The mango chutney was absolutely disgusting that got binned aswell tried calling 3 times no answer I wouldn't order from here again

Very poor. 4 different dishes all just the same brown reheated stodgy sauce with a little bit of overcooked meat in. Restaurant is empty and dirty. Never again.

Had high hopes this was going to be The Star of Chesterfield but it was mildly disappoining and unfortunately it wasn't even the star of the moor! There was nothing wrong with the food and it was reasonably priced but I had heard many people rave about this place so was expecting something above avarage.

Disappointed, heard good things about the star of sall, new management, staff, chef the lot. Tried a takeaway, ordered 2 onon bhaji, nice and well done but not quite cooked in the middle, only got 1 salad, they did give us 1 poppadom to share, 2 main, 2 people!!!! Ordered veg rice, keema rice, only got veg rice, ordered garlic nan, was a dry, tough, not sure if it was fresh dough that day, abit burnt. Curries, chicken tikka sag masala, very glupy, like its been thicken, alot of coconut bits, not that tasty. Chicken paphia, was ok, tasty. Sorry was looking forward to this, disappointed.

Ordered food online for delivery and didnt arrive!! Waited 2 hours and the restraunt is now shut with no food. Disgusting service

Poor service waited over an hr for takeaway. Food was cold wasn't able to eat other customers waiting longer for food .customers being turned away at 21.40 even though the restaurant was not full

It seems to get better everytime we go. I highly recommend the fish pakora.

The basic prawn curry was powdery and left a horrible taste in your mouth ,I couldn't eat it ,my husband had lamb bhuna and it was all sauce ,never again

After waiting for two hours I sent a message which was ignored. We rang 2 hours after ordering and were told "it's just left, it will be 5 minutes". Immediately after the phone was put down the order was cancelled. When the missus rang up the reply was "well we are busy". Asreholes. No way to treat customers. Won't be using again and will be telling others to do the same.

Very good, would recommend this! Definitely worth the money you spend.

Food is great but delivery is appalling - ordered 2hrs in advance and it was still over 30mins late, not good enough. Unapologetic 'we are busy' - not good enough.

Portions fab, huge prawns in the curry and free poppadoms. However, the prawn masala was incredibly hot/spicy. I’m happy with some spice but this was too much. Order was late and we waited 90+ mins Driver and man on the phone pleasant though

The food was lovely, but it was an hour late and there was a main course missing.

I had the same dish twice this week, both great overall, but this last one was swimming in too much ghee for my taste.

Staying in the area on a short break, ordering food from new places is always a game of chance! Main meals were lovely, only very slight negative (for me) was the onion Bhaji was soooo spicy hot. The Raita was lovely and helped cool down the heat from bhaji. Would definitely recommend The Star of Sall, and would use again if back in the area!

Poppadoms not crispy and pickle tray very poor, yogurt runny. Got dishes wrong as supplied 2 Tandoori mixes grills instead of 1 mixed grill and 1 Tandoori chicken. Tandoors dishes excellent quality

The best Indian in Chesterfield.

I thought I’d have a takeaway to take to work with me on a night shift. Wrong choice I ordered a Saag Panneer and Lamb Tikka. The Tikka if you like salt you would be fine it was well over salted couldn’t eat it and one of the lads that will eat anything didn’t eat it. The Saag Panner cheese wasn’t even cooked and tasted off like a mature cheddar. I have Saag Panner all the time and even make at home and this batch was off. What a shame more than 3/4 of the food went in the bin. Never again.

Used star of sall for years, but when a problem arises they don’t care. Our curry was damaged and they said there’s no point sending anymore out because the chips and rice will be cold so message just eat and try and get a refund.

Thought the food was expensive, and nothing special.

Part of the pickle tray was missing, I contacted the restaurant by phone immediately and they were disinterested. Additionally my mild vegetarian curry was too hot. On the whole very dissatisfied and I would not recommend using them in the future.

Usually great food, however this time the naan breads were dry and burnt (they went in the bin). The Veggie Bhuna tasted soapy and was inedible, my veggie korma consisted of mainly huge lumps of potato, with little evidence of any other veg - very disappointed!

We had 3 lovely curries from here today plus rice, naan and chips Both chicken curries and the lamb curries were so delicious I loved them, well done to the chef. Brilliant hot delicious food. The plain naan and keema naan were also really nice, enjoyed every bite and the chips well I have to say probably the best I've had for a long time. Food always excellent,my only complaint is with the poppadoms always arrive in pieces! That apart everything else great.

Had a 40 minute wait for the food, ordered the mixed kebab which should have included onion bahjee, kebab and samosa, no samosa was given fish in batter instead, the onion bahjee was burnt to a crisp, and the kebab was over done and dry. The curry had flavour but was Luke warm and the cheese naan bread bland, supermarket versions are better! For £26.55 for 2 curries, 2 naan breads, 1 rice and burnt starter which didn’t include what stated on the menu I was extremely disappointed.

Food was amazing, service was brilliant. The only downside was that the lids were open and some stuff spilt, not enough to ruin the order but it wasn't brilliant in that aspect.

It didn't matter to us how early it came the meal was beautiful still hot no complaints what so ever. We really enjoyed our meal. Thank you.

Great start, delivery was early. We put our mains in the oven while we ate our starter. Then we served the mains and sides. We were upset to realise the naan that said peshwari was actually keema, being vegetarian this was a problem so we called the restaurant who sent a replacement, unfortunately this was also a keema. We rang again and got told we'd sort it next time as we didn't want to wait again. The food was lovely though and would try them again.

Will order again never had a bad meal yet and very helpful .
