Have visited a few times since the new owners took residency. After a delicious breakfast this morning I couldn’t resist spreading the word. I’m so excited for when the pub grub starts this week and if the breakfast is anything to go on, fantastic value for money too. The range of drinks were pleasing and so was the warm and friendly atmosphere. Well worth a visit!

Having lived in Whiteshill for almost 10 years in the 90's we decided to return for a walk today and called into the star for a drink. We (and the dog) were made very welcome by the landord and we ended up staying for several hours and indulging in the "pizza and pint" offer. Highly reccomended.

Passing by Stroud last nite and got a thirst-on and had an urge for a cold Tonic water, ice and lemon - got exactly that from a very welcoming, hard working but happy chappy at the Star Inn who worked behind the bar. Double kudos - thirst gone and left with a smile - that's a result I'd say and lovely drive home although the satnav took me down some questionable roads - happy crowd there too to boot! which raised the atmosphere.

Well potentially a lovely old pub over 350 years old but inside there is a part demolished breeze block wall in the bar area to accommodate a pizza oven all the lovely heritage features butchered by this monstrosity. Had a pint of moretti but it wasn’t nice room was small but clean and bed was comfy. No breakfast. Grounds were not kept well and tired access to room was via the car park. Pizza was by Fat Tony not really appropriate in this day and age

Sadly this stay was terrible due to the noise that came through the floor from upstairs above the room at 1.00am in the morning and throughout the stay. We were woken up to someone walking across the room several times and things being dropped on the floor. There clearly is not any noise reduction within the ceiling and upstairs. Definitely will not be using again

First time we we went there asked for a baby bottle to be heated. The answer was no. That was 2 years ago. Went there tonight. Asked for a bowel of chips was told they had got rid of chefs. About 20 mins later guests sat down to potatoes gravy and sausages. Would be nice to have catered to locals as well as others. Let's hope there is more heart instead of putting those off who want to spend more time there and feel part of a lovely community.

We stopped off for a drink with the kids on the hottest day of the year so far. We sat in the ‘beer garden’ which is in fact a building site full of broken furniture and rusty nails sticking out of the so called seats. I asked for an orange and lemonade which I was refused by the landlord but I could have a can of san pellegrino. Sigh. Then when I asked for ice in the coke and squashes, this was again quite unbelievably refused. The landlord telling me it ruined the drinks. He clearly had no idea about customer service and the food coming out looked as if it came from a microwave. As you can see from the other 1 star reviews do not be fooled into going to this place.

Despite the online menu examples , the menu we were offered was very very limited. Again online menu stated gluten free option for burgers...yeah , just no bun and I asked for extra fries instead but none forthcoming nor price reduction for lack of bun. Was suggested I change my choice (stated as gluten free) to the gluten free sausages ( as if they are not in every supermarket) which then made me worried that my choice was not actually gluten free. Appear to have no understanding of allergies as I was asked if I was coeliac " as that was more serious" ..what more serious than anaphylaxis to gluten ? For which I carry 2 epipens? Very scary blatant lack of knowledge, which I found concerning and would never go back. No gluten free puds at all, despite there being a brownie which is a standard usual gluten free option pretty much everywhere else, although all the puddings were described carefully and we were told how delicious they all were and to me " you can't have any " Delightful...not. And on a final note despite the beautiful location the outside area / garden is a tip and not at all pleasant. Shame because the views are beautiful.

I took my wife and mother for Sunday lunch, we arrived and placed our drinks order at the bar, then made our way to our table. We all opted for the Cauliflower Soup to start, which was lovely, after which things then went downhill. We all had the Rib Of Beef, which came with a few roast potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, roast carrots, a section of a parsnip, and what was supposed to be a bowl of cauliflower cheese.I asked the waitress if there was a bowl of vegetables on the way, she replied “No, that’s all of it.”The Yorkshire Puddings were all dried out, as were the roast potatoes, and the cauliflower cheese was burnt on top, soggy and half full of water.Normally you’d expect to be asked if everything is ok with the meal, we weren’t asked until the waitress cleared the table.I expressed my disappointment to her, to be fair she was lovely and did her job well, and said “I appreciate none of this isn’t your fault.”To pay the bill you had to go back to the bar, I presumed the barman/owner was made aware of my complaint but he said nothing, then when receiving my bill I noticed I was charged £2 for a pint of soda water. I asked him “Why do you charge so much for something that comes out of the tap?” he replied “We always have.”He didn’t seem too bothered at our disappointing visit. All in all, we expected much more considering all the good reviews on here, based on our experience today we won’t be returning nor will I recommend it to others.

I recently enjoyed a two night stay in the cottage apartment at the Star. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. The bar was excellent with a terrific beer selection. The restaurant menu featured a large selection of tasty options. There were three people in my party, including two young men in their 20’s. We didn’t eat the same meal twice and we were completely satisfied with every meal. Ken (the landlord) and his staff were welcoming and very helpful. I look forward to staying at the Star again.

Having enjoyed Sunday lunch last year, we decided to return for Mothers Day. At the bar, no elderflower presse, no sparkling water, no squash. When presented with the menu it was a very reduced menu. Only soup and herrings for starters, herring not available. Main course we choose Beef. Which was nice, but the rib was very fatty. Cauliflower arrived in a dish, carrots and a quarter of a parsnip on the plate. No green vegetables. Sat for ages waiting for plates to be cleared, watched the waitress open the windows and ignore us. Sweets limited, and some not available. When we commented to the manager on the poor service and food options, Sorry was not forthcoming and turned his back on us. Probably will not return.

18 family members went for lunch today two of which were vegan. The vegan meals were served there was no choice. Both vegans sat at opposite ends of the table stressed how salty the meal was neither ate it. When presented with the bill ( which was nearly £400.00) the vegan meals were still being charged for. When this was queried the owner made the comment that it was fine, nothing wrong with it and insisted that the meals were paid for. As it was a family function we paid. I would strongly urge people not to go to this restaurant/pub the landlord was both rude and totally disrespectful. The food was also pretty lousy! Dont waste your hard earned money here people!!

I needed somewhere to stay in the Stroud area and plumped for the Star. What a lucky find. Lovely cottage attached to the pub, fantastic bed, shower like a monsoon and a wonderful breakfast the next morning. The ales come straight out of the barrel - they were Butcombe Haka and Dark Star Hophead, both delightful, and the range increases at the weekend. I had a whitebait starter and the monkfish on butter bean casserole. I prefer not to have the whitebait covered in crumbs but, other than that, it was great. A generous portion and lots of Tartare. The fish dish was a knockout. Beautiful fresh fish on a crafted stew of garlic, tomato and beans. The contrast was divine and the whole experience was mouth filling and delightful. Ken makes everyone feel completely at home and this is how real pubs aught to be. What a shame more aren't like them.

This was our first visit to The Star. We found a lovely village pub with a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome from Ken the landlord. My wife followed Ken’s recommendations and had the Lamb. She loved it . The lamb was well cooked extremely tender, full of flavour and more than enough gravy. I had the sirloin steak which was cooked just as I had asked. It was served with big chunky chips and with more than enough pepper sauce. There was a great selection of different draft ales and cider to was down our lovely meal. I opted for the Eton mess for desert which was about all I could manage after a great steak. My wife had the apple and sultanna fruit cake with fresh cream and toffee sauce. We could not fault the food or service and would highly recommend The Star Inn. We will definitely be back for more.

Visited Stroud many a time but how did I not know about this place? Classic traditional village pub - with real ales :) - but with a clean and bright modern decor to keep up with changes in times. Ken the Landlord was very welcoming and friendly and got us our pints in, Proper Job and Lushingtons on cask. Went for Sunday Lunch - and it was an absolute delight. Meat eater friend and I went for braised lamb and roast beef and the missus as a vegetarian had a pine nut and tomato tart which looked pretty good ;but the actual unexpected treat was how everything came, on one large sharing board, really well-presented (other than the veggie option, of course, this was separately served) . In addition to the meat, both which were wonderfully cooked, there was an array of veg available: cauliflower cheese, roasted parsnip and carrot, red cabbage, roasties, Yorkshires, there was so much! Gravy I hear you cry? Veggie too as standard which was suited us perfectly and was, needless to say, lush. But most importantly, it was lovingly prepared and presented and tasted fantastic! I recommend you to get down here!

In other words I was lying. That was the end of it as far as he was concerned . Lump it or leave it which I did . The stew was just a can of tinned tomatoes with bit of celery and beans put in . It was dry until I tore away the fish from the bone .

We were told the chef was new, he certainly created a great menu with extra tasty high class food. Ken the landlord was welcoming and friendly and struck a good balance of familial and professional. The atmosphere and decor leaned pleasantly towards a professional bistro. A great evening had by all. I would visit again and recommend others to do so.

Stayed at The Star Inn this weekend before the Gloucester 10k run. We were made very welcome (2 runners, 1 wing man and a dog!!) and they catered to our every need. Our evening meal was excellent value and quality - set us up perfectly for our run. We even went back after the 10k for our Sunday lunch - which I have to say was amazing. The rib of beef was beyond tasty! Will definitely return.

Walked to this pub... lovely atmosphere, stunning views! Nice pint! Has kegs of real ale on sale. We had a lovely drink deserved after a walk. If you can’t face the climb up the hill the number 63 bus goes every half hour from stroud!

I visited The Star Inn in Stroud the other day and found the food to be exceptionally nice and great value. They had some lovely beers on tap also. The landlord Ken was extremely friendly and I would recommend The Star Inn to anyone in the area.

We stayed with our two kids in a lovely family room with separate areas for the kids and for us, stunning view of the valley, contemporary and well-maintained decor. Kids were very happy with the room as were we. Ken was a fantastic host, nothing was too much effort to ensure we had a good stay - he found a family friendly area for us in the pub, recommended some excellent beers fresh from the keg and sourced from independent brewers - wine was also very good. We had two evening meals - hearty, quality pub fayre and a lovely breakfast. We also tried out one of the walks you'll find on the website, taking us up to Haresfield Beacon, one of the highlights of the Cotwolds Way and with panoramic views for miles. All in all a wonderful stay - thanks so much to Ken and his team!

Have visited my local many times but never to eat, I had heard it was expensive and had mixed reviews regarding the food, however with friends visiting we thought we would give it a go. I actually didn't find the prices too bad although with an already limited menu it was disappointing that some items weren't available. What i ate as my main was ok, creamy mash and good meaty sausages, poorly presented sadly, but tasty. What I found unbelievable was the (landlord's words) "eton mess to die for" served in a small glass tumbler, next to no meringue, swirled with cream and, the nail in it's coffin? tinned strawberries! I know they may not be in season but we can all put our hands on a fresh strawberry or two surely. We have almost come to expect expensive drinks in country pubs but come on, £2.00 for a soda water? penalise the non drinker why don't you. I will visit my local again but not to eat and probably not to drink too much either

This is a great place to eat or just have a drink. Friendly staff, good food. Not a huge menu, but covers most people's needs. I'd rather a small menu done well, than a large one done badly. Beer kept well also.

I have visited this pub twice in the past month for an evening meal. On both occasions, the food was as described and cooked correctly - steak med rare, was med rare - well done!! Could not fault the food and the attitude of the staff was very welcoming! To cap it all, they have a good selection of draught beers and ciders.

Stayed for one night after a wedding. Had a very nice room. Very comfy bed, although the pillows gave me a stiff neck and could have been softer. Lovely large walk in rain shower although Bathroom a bit on the small size. (Please be careful not to catch your fingers between the sink and door to get to the toilet).

Came here on the weekend for my Mum's birthday. The service was really friendly and the food tasted great. Only thing i'd suggest is a rethink on serving Sunday roast on a chopping board as by the time everyone dished up the plates and meals were cold.

The food used to be good, the beer used to be excellent. The staff used to be friendly. The food has gone down hill, very fatty and greasy. The beer is still good, some of the best in Stroud. The staff are over the top and that makes people feel ill at easy. In fact it's quite creepy. The landlord is trying to make you feel welcome but he puts us off going back. Over all, average.

Good points - Staff friendly, room clean, dog friendly Bad points - Room small, very hot and noisy (had to have windows open but traffic noise bad all night - room right on road). Ordered fish and chips - chips were appalling.

For mum s birthday was delicious and after being diagnosed gluten free with the dr the week before this was not a problem the cafe catered for myself and it was delicious my only sadness is I don’t live closer it’s a hour away out worth the drive and I’ll be back

Wonderful little cafe. Great attention to detail. Try the sausage rolls. Brilliant. Flaky pastry with a meaty filling that’s perfectly seasoned and cooked. That and the coffee made a really nice afternoon. Lilly the waitress's was great too.she got new Ice to put in my summer berries drink because the ice they had was scrappy. Very professional cafe. Highly recommend.

What an excellent place. We arrived without a booking one afternoon to find they were almost fully booked, but they managed to squeeze us in. Really good range of choices on the menu. We both had fillet steak which were cooked to perfection and the side orders were just as good. The service was excellent . Make sure you book a table.
