We were staying in the village and on reading the excellent reviews we wanted to try the Star It has a modern, clean interior with two wood burners at either end, which gave a nice warm and comfy feeling on a ool Thursday evening The hosts, Anthony and Andrew, were very welcoming and made us feel at home. Anthony gas a great sense of humour and lots of local knowledge of the area for dog walks The food was first class, with generous portions and cooked perfectly. The Sharpes Atlantic Pale Ale is one of my favourites, along with Doombar. The Temporanillo my wife assures me was up there with the best reds It was a lovely evening

Booked in for Sunday lunch at the Star Inn, just a 10 minute drive from our holiday rental in Coverack. Delighted to find a find such a super pub/restaurant in such an isolated position with a warm welcome and pleasant feel. Ordered the Roast which was excellent and complimented by perfectly prepared vegetables. Generous portions of hot, delicious and beautifully presented food and even an “extra” jug of graveyard. Service was attentive and genuine without feeling intrusive. Thank you David, Anthony & Harry for making our visit so pleasant & enjoyable. Planning to return to try the evening menu before leaving the area.

On holiday in nearby Helston, and my wife really fancied a Sunday Roast. After checking TripAdvisor, The Star Inn looked great – and close, so we gave them a call and booked. When we arrived, a table with our name on it was waiting near the bar. To say we had a warm welcome from the owner (I assume) Anthony would be to understate it – we were treated like old friends from the start. Although tempted by the various curries and other dishes on the small (always a good sign – I think) but varied menu – the dusted calimari as a main looked tempting – as a family we all went for a roast. Three Cornish Roast Beef's – and one roast vegetable tart – but with proper meat gravy. The Roast were spot on. Plenty of thinly sliced roast beef, that was full of flavour, good roasties and yorkshires. Then came the veg's. Cornish carrots. Cornish tenderstem broccoli. Cornish cabbage (beautifully soft and flavourful). Swede and potato mash – we got an (uneeded) apology that the swede wasn't Cornish – about the only thing on the table that wasn't. Probably came from Devon… Loads of proper gravy, and the offer of more if we should need it. A side of creamy horseradish set the beef off perfectly. We also had a side of cauliflower cheese to share – not really needed as there was more than enough veg already – but highly recommended anyway – why not… The food was accompanied by good selection of Alcohol Free Beer and Cider – not had the AF Budweiser Budvar before – but it was very good. We finished off with some great puds – accompanied by Cornish ice cream, and clotted cream of course. Lovely pub, lovely old building with a contemporary interior. Would love to visit in the winter when the fire is going – I bet it's proper cosy. Hopefully will return to sample the menu beyond the Sunday Roast. Or perhaps just have another one of them… Thanks for a lovely evening Anthony and team.

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch here, all the food was beautifully cooked and the service was so warm, friendly and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Two of us had the Sunday roast with perfect fresh vegetables and a side of cauliflower cheese, one had a chicken curry and the other chicken, chips and coleslaw, all were spot on. The puddings were also great and we paid £130 with soft drinks. We would definitely return, we only wish we lived nearby!

Booked for a roast at dinner time and we all know how hard it is to get an evening venue serving great roasts. The interior is chic, the lager divine and the menu choice just fab. Service and attention to the party was just the right level, not pushy and then we never waited for any service. The food was not rushed out in a wham bam style, but care taken to deliver a meal that was just what was needed. The lamb was cooked top perfection, plenty of veg variety and the call cheese bubbly and ooooodles of it. The Star seriously needs a 2nd visit to try other items on the menu as it was so enjoyable. For a not on the beaten track place to go this need to be visited Thankyou for a wonderful meal and an totally enjoyable evening Andy (not Andrew as only my mother calls me that )

How do I start? I can hand on heart say that this place is one of the loveliest places I have ever eaten in and trust me I love my food. Antony is the perfect host, I can only describe the way we were welcomed and treated as the way I remember restaurants being in my younger days. People’s custom was appreciated and valued. The place has been so tastefully restored and it has a lovely modern look but has still kept its old world charm and features. The chairs are comfortable it’s spotlessly clean and just adorable. Antony is such a lovely person and Andrew is a fantastic chef. On to the food. Well it was honestly the best Sunday roast I have had in my life and I am going on 68. The potatoes were crispy fluffy and so tasty. I don’t really like swede or I thought I didn’t, mum just mashed hers. I now love it but only the way Andrew made it taste. Oh I know what you are thinking, I am just saying this because I enjoyed a few drinks with my meal but trust me, hand on heart this was so delicious I thought I had died and gone to food heaven. Now let’s talk dessert. Ok so alongside a lovely liqueur coffee my blast from the past, I enjoyed peanut butter brownie with vanilla ice cream. It was amazing, and trust me I can bake but it was to die for. We were so impressed I am going back for my birthday. At no time did we feel rushed, the atmosphere was warm homely and perfect. It really took me back to the era where the customer mattered most and hosts made sure they were happy. Well we left very happy it made our weekend so special. Antony and Andrew we will be back next month I promise xx

Wow what a find this lovely little pub is. We were looking for Sunday lunch and saw the reviews for the star ,it clearly lives up to its name ,from walking through the door we were made very welcome by Anthony, the pub is beautifully decorated and had a great ambience. Attention to detail is spot on. I had the roast beef which was delicious this came with carrots ,broccoli, cabbage and turnip roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, this also came with extra gravy ,I ordered the cauliflower and leek cheese dish which I had read about and was certainly not disappointed, hubby had lamb which he thoroughly enjoyed . We would not hesitate to eat here again . Thank you Anthony for your hospitality

This was our second visit to the Star Inn albeit 18 months after the last time and this time for Sunday lunch. Where do we start? The welcome from Anthony was like meeting an old friend and the service then was fantastic from staff Harry I think?? The Sunday lunch itself cooked by Andrew was amazing and so plentiful but we managed to somehow eat everything and then a delicious pudding to follow. I cannot praise this pub highly enough and I even recommended to another local business that they paid a visit here to take a lesson in exemplary customer service! It was like having your Sunday lunch with family or friends. Thank you to the whole team and we will most certainly be back the next time we are down in Cornwall.

Wow what can I say!! This is the first review I’ve ever left for a restaurant but I was so impressed I said to my partner we should leave this for those interested in somewhere to eat in the area. We came down for the weekend and was looking on a Sunday for a nice restaurant to dine at that wasn’t too far out and the Starr inn popped up. As soon as we came we were greeted by the staff who the whole meal remembered both our names and included us in conversations across the room such as what are good National trust sight visits as we were interested in finding some more places to go. The whole restaurant was friendly and talkative. The food was too high standard and a big portion size for the price. The service was quick and presented very well. Both came back with a smile on our face saying how we can’t think of another place we’ve eaten with the high standard of service, food and atmosphere before, Phenomenal hospitality. Absolutely flawless evening. Thankyou again. If we are ever in the area again we will most definitely be coming back. Highly recommend.

Best Sunday lunch I've ever had in Cornwall. Never been before but knew the pub was under (relatively) new ownership. Their work has paid off. Food was first class, as was the service and cleanliness of all areas of the pub (inc the toilets!). Lovely to see dogs welcome too and a log burner of course. The presentation of the food was first class and clearing and wiping the table between each course was a welcome act of professionalism not always seen at other venues. This is the only pub I've ever been to that has proper roast potatoes (i.e. really crispy)! The vegetarian roast of sweet potato and red onion tart was, I'm told, fantastic ("the best I've ever had"). The couple who run this place clearly know what they are doing and are proud of what they are doing. It shows. A great addition to the Cornish pub scene and long may they prosper. Will clearly be going many more times in 2024. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Well done to the team.

We had originally booked lunch here but a change of plan meant rescheduling for dinner, we phoned late afternoon and were offered a suitable time. On arriving we were shown to a dog-friendly table and drinks were ordered and served promptly, our food order was taken and served after a slightly longer wait than we expected, it was worth the wait! a generous portion of beef, larger than average Yorkshire with beautiful crispy roast potatoes with lashings of gravy on the plate with vegetables served separately again the portion sizes were generous, perhaps even overly so. We are therefore unable to comment on deserts!

The 4 year old and 2 year old started getting noisy and was told by the owner of the pub you not in weatherspoons. Once we paid we ask we asked if was a family pub which they said they was. Obviously not with that comment!!!! Avoid if you want to go here with your family. The food was tasty and everyone enjoyed their roast beef dinner Service with a smile which these days seems to be very rare. To the owners well done on running a little gem of a restaurant within a pub, I would have no problem in visiting again and hopefully it will be very soon. Another highlight was how spotless the toilets were, which again just shows you how much care and pride the owners take in there business.

Let me explain the rating.Firstly, the owners and staff were top notch, friendly, efficient and very proud of their venue. We stayed for 4 nights not 50m from this pub, booked especially because we like a local to relax in after days out walking and exploring. First night we had a table booked due to travelling down to Cornwall, off we went in great expectation of a cosy country pub with local ales, ciders and special board offerings.Well, we couldnt have been more surprised, the pub was smart, very contemporary and obviously a project of importance for the owners. Sadly, there were no comfy knooks, fireplaces, specials boards, local ciders or even barstools and local community drinkers you would normally expect in a rural village pub on a Friday evening... the cider was Aspalls, from Suffolk??! ... very odd considering the history of Cornish cider Furniture was smart but simple and functional... no comfort, just a feel of office canteen with maybe just a touch of style. All the walls were bare with no pictures or ornaments, it all felt so out of context for the location. We though maybe the saving grace, to match the contemporary decor, would be a contemporary menu,... again we were left bemused, virtually everything was just pub grub.... burgers, fish and chips, scampi, curry etc etc... nothing innovative, just good well presented traditional pub grub, but absolutely nothing to match the modern image the owners are trying to sustain.I was told it was popular with the locals, though I doubt the local farming and village community pop in for a casual pint in the traditional way.So in summary, a nicely maintained and presented standard restaurant, this isnt a pub

We would never have found this place had we not been staying in a cottage directly across the road. What a stroke of luck. The Star has the most welcoming atmosphere you could wish for, brought about by Anthony and Andrew and all three of the girls working for them. Whether indulging in a meal from the small but exquisite menu or dropping in for a couple of drinks, guests are made to feel at home instantly and are soon on first name terms. The decor in the pub is modern yet homely, everything is superbly clean, service is exemplary. If you're staying anywhere in the vicinity, make a point of paying a visit, although it's so popular, booking is advisable if you want to eat. We were staying in an Airbnb property in Porkellis and decided on our first night there that as it was dark and raining we would head over to the Star Inn for a meal as it was literally on the doorstep. The staff were really friendly and there was a good choice of meals. The pub had a great atmosphere and many local people were there who were friendly and welcoming. 2 log fires made the place lovely and warm and we sat by one of the fires for our meal - a tasty curry for me and a tender steak for my husband. Would thoroughly recommend. We noticed that the pub is also a Community Library location but didn't get a chance to investigate on this visit!

We were staying in a local cottage for a couple of days & visited The Star Inn to celebrate my friends Birthday. We were given a warm welcome & my friend, who had been before, was remembered by the owners. The food, slow cooked beef with sweet potato chips & veg, was lovely, beautifully cooked. Sadly, having no room for pud, we settled for coffee. They only did cafetiere coffee & we were asked if we wanted hot or cold milk. We chose hot, as coffee gets cold quite quickly. I was taken aback when on the bill the milk was extra. I've never been charged for milk for coffee. It must have cost them all of 10pence! I'm sure it could have been absorbed into their profits, as the food, although good value, isn't cheap. Just a thought. We'd still eat there again as it is good & friendly.

My partner and I popped in for dinner while we were staying close by. The food was tasty and beautifully presented. The pub itself was fabulously decorated and the staff we warm and welcoming. You were able to buy basic provisions (tea coffee milk) and there was even a small library so the villagers didn't need to go into Helston. What a find and will definitely be returning

We came for dinner following a very long trip from Kent & couldn’t have been given a warmer welcome. We took along our 2 dogs & had a lovely quiet corner so we could all relax. The food was piping hot & cooked to a high standard. We will certainly be back before we leave. Top food & first class service - thank you

We came here, again, on a recommendation. We received a very warm welcome on arrival and shown to our table which we reserved ahead of time, which is advised. The menu appears to change on a regular basis and has a great variety of dishes to cater for most people. It looks to have recent been done up and has a nice stylish interior. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. The food was very good and tasty. The beers were also very good!! Would definitely recommend a visit and we’ll be back in the future too.

Stayed one night in our campervan at The Star Inn, Porkellis, free of charge. Many thanks to Anthony (LANDLORD) and his staff. Extremely welcoming, excellent food and superb hospitality. A wonderful community pub in a lovely little Cornish village. I highly recommend this pub. If you find yourself in these parts please give this pub a visit, you won't be disappointed. Many thanks.

Excellent service, jolly atmosphere - local library as well so community pub. Food was tasty, we felt steak could have had a little more with it (mushrooms, egg or onions etc) other than that all very good . Baguette was a wonderful bread treat not the usual hard chewy addition

Had a really nice meal for the second year running and they even recognised us from last year. I brought my parents as well this year. Food was amazing and we all enjoyed the food and felt very welcome. Thanks for another amazing meal. All the staff are lovely and chatty, even the locals who were in the pub at the time. Can’t wait for next year. See you then.

My wife and I visited the Star Inn in June during a romantic break to Cornwall. We actually got a little lost walking to the pub, but when I called the pub for directions, The bar manager (Kate) was extremely helpful and gave great directions. On arrival we were warmly greeted not only by the lovely Kate, but by other customers in the pub. My wife and I felt extremely welcomed. The pub itself is clean, stylish, and comfortable, clearly the owners have taken the time to design a great drinking/eating area, which retains the 300 year old charm with a clean modern twist.

Myself & Husband visited this pub after an extremely long car journey and were welcomed and looked after very well. We ordered some starter dishes from the menu to share instead of main meals and found the menu had lots of choice, as well as every dish being very tasty. The drinks were also lovely and very well priced, we hope to come again in the future.

Having booked in advance, my daughter and I, together with her dog Lottie, arrived here on a very wet and windy day. All three of us were greeted warmly by Anthony and shown to our table, close to the welcome warmth of the wood-burning fire. Our orders for drinks and food were taken by the friendly waitress, who asked whether we would like cauliflower cheese with our meal, which we said we would. The drinks arrived swiftly, followed shortly afterwards by our roast lunches. The meats were served on plates, together with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy, with the vegetables arriving in four separate dishes, including a large one with the cauliflower cheese, and a further boat with more gravy. Both meals were really delicious, with everything cooked perfectly. Although we did not have room left for a sweet course, this made a most satisfying and enjoyable meal. We look forward to coming here again and will certainly recommend it to our friends.

We had a good meal (roast beef, cannelloni), which was fine, but the roast was a little 'off taste' from what I expected. A good dessert/coffee. Service was a little casual (though it was a quiet evening). A pleasant pub, with a good choice of wines.

A great evening for 18 friends.Tables were booked for 8.30 pm. When the whole gang arrived we were offered a glass of bubbly and some very tasty hors doeuvres and we also sat down at the designated time. There was no rush or panic and the starters of Pate or Battered Prawns, and a Vegetarian option, all beautifully served up. This was followed by the main course which was Beouf Bourganion, Chicken and again a Veggie option. There was a variety of accompaniments including Cauliflower Cheese Mash and Dauphinois Potatoes, Peas, Carrots Red Cabbage Brocolli and Parsnips. Again the main courses were all served hot all together and again Not a single complaint as everybody appeared to be enjoying the meal! For such a special occasion one had to commend the chef Andrew and his very staff for their very efficient service which also included taking orders for wine and beer from the bar. It sure was a good evening had by all and a very good start to the New Year

A warm welcome awaits in this well kept , exceptionally clean pub. The staff are delightful and the range of beers is good. We went for Sunday lunch and they fitted us in at the last moment. I chose beef and my husband chose turkey. The meat portions were generous . The roast potatoes tasted more deep fried rather than roasted and the vegetables were dull. I really want the roast here to be better as the pub otherwise has great ambience. Please roast potatoes properly and experiment with different ways of cooking vegetables.....lots of other pubs in the area serve red cabbage casserole, cauliflower cheese, sprouts in bacon and garlic. The roast was good value but I suggest that you increase the price slightly and go wild with the vegetables!

from a warm welcome on the phone and in person from Antony and Andrew The Star Inn did was the perfect stop over from the brit stop book. we would never have found this hidden away gem otherwise. Space for one camper and with electric hook up and the most amazing cooked food we had all holiday. spoil for choice on the menu I had warm fresh sour dough to start and the spinach and ricotta cannelloni was delicious and my partners steak looked and tasted fantastic too. and excellent value for money. Plus our dog Dozer was made to feel very at home too! then we had a very peaceful nights sleep in the car park after a lovely meal and wine. thank you guys wish we lived nearer and hopefully see you again one day.

Saw this place in a dog friendly brochure and we were going to be in the area so phoned and booked for lunch. Very friendly staff and always good to be able to take the dog. Shared a Camembert which was lovely and my mum had the prawns which were great. All 3 of us had the Sunday lunch, beef or pork, and it was delicious with loads of vegetables. One of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this place and hope to go back before we head home from our holidays.

Just had The Drake and the Mrs Perryman. Both came with plenty of chips, the actual duck dishes were outstanding, really nice. We will be returning to try another dish when we return next year. We were lucky to have crispy skin as well. We spotted the sign for the duck Truck while we were driving to our cottage in Tintagel and decided to give it a go during our stay. We were not disappointed. Top local produce, by the farmer. Keep up the good work, we'll be back
