Great selection of real ales and to top it off with there selection of scotch eggs very good atmosphere very friendly pub

We have recently discovered this lovely pub, which did amazing cheese and onion cobs, scotch eggs and sausage rolls. We particularly enjoyed the cheese and onion cobs, which were both generous with their cheese and onion, however the last two times we have purchased these as takeway it has been a case of hunt the onion on the cob, still a generous amount of cheese but barely any onion. The first time we could forgive as a mistake but as it was the same again today, it must be how they make them now. I guess we'll try elsewhere for our cheese and onion fix but that apart it's still a nice pub, with lovely scotch eggs.

Great local pub for drinks. Always busy with workers from surrounding businesses in the evening. Wood burner going through winter months which creates and awesome ambience and cosy experience. Pub doesn't do meals but has snacks such as sausage rolls which are homemade and and absolute must!!! Staff always friendly and polite with great customer rapport!!

Friendly efficient service and great selection of ales and lagers Oh and don’t forget the gins The scotch eggs are out of this world Try the chilli nice and spicy

One cracking village pub. Great bar food, top notch staff brilliant place to visit. Live music on a Sunday free cheese board. Friday best fish & chips I’ve ever had. If you passing call in you won’t regret it

We are dog lovers and have 3 dogs and 3 teenage kids so we often visit in the warmer dryer months , although the pub doesn’t allow dogs inside they are very welcoming to well behaved dogs and kids 😉 in their outside areas and provide welcoming atmosphere. This pub has bought much needed atmosphere to the village well done team star ❤️

The Star have a great range of drinks, always served to high quality by some very friendly staff. The bar offers ham, cheese & onion cobs, pork pies and sausage rolls that are all of the highest quality. Well worth travelling to spend some time in this wonderful pub.

We always feel welcome and at ease, even with kids (before 9pm.) Love their complimentary cheeses every Sunday!! Get there early, it’s goes quick. Looking toward to the next special event…curry nights, fish & chips and always a good band on at the Weekend! A true community pub!

Great pub. Love the beers and the food. Friday fish & chips outstanding. The Sunday sessions also fab - some great acts from solos to full bands. Just leaving home to see acoustic duo Grace saw them in December and enjoyed the music.

Wow! The Star! What a lovely little pub. Visited here on a couple of occasions, once when there was live music on and what a great atmosphere it was. The landlady just can't do enough! The bar snacks are more than just bar snacks, the beers good and the staff are lovely, very friendly and nothing is too much. Will deffo be visiting again soon.

Great pub with knowledgable staff and excellent atmosphere. Fabulous pub outings to the racing, dogs golf etc. Scotch eggs and sausage rolls are lovely along with the Sunday cheese board. Live music and open mike nights complete the mix. Where else do you need?

The Star is so welcoming and Matt always knows your order. The bands Ally books go down really well, especially on a Sunday afternoon. Oh yes...and the fish and chips on a Friday! Always fresh with a beautiful tartare sauce and such value for money....

My favourite pub, so many lovely nights spent with family. Love to sit by the log fire in the comfy chairs. Always busy, the atmosphere is friendly and you can have good conversation. Fabulous friendly pub, good range of wines and beers. Always something going on from live bands, outings etc. Fabulous mural on the wall (not the one in the pic) which was done to raise funds for local charity - an ongoing theme.

Came here after a 8 mile walk from Stafford. Replenished with a homemade sausage roll and pint of one of there beers. Various bar snacks available scotch eggs, cheeseham cobs all freshly made and delicious 😋(Believe me I've tried them all on previous visits). excellent...

Moved to Penkridge just over 2 years ago and feel very lucky to have a local pub like The Star! Brilliant and friendly atmosphere, staff are fantastic and there’s always a great event or act playing. (Oh and the home made scotch eggs……)

Pub ok, nothing special had expected better. Not very welcoming. Had a cheese and onion cob, which was stale. Disappointed. Definitely won't be returning.

Took friends here for lunch on Saturday to find out that they no longer serve food, unless you want a scotch egg or cob. Perhaps you could advertise this in future. Lovely pub with a log burner and a friendly atmosphere

This is by far one of the best pubs I've frequented. The best in Penkridge too. Friendly staff, traditional and homely, real wood fires, great selection of drinks, caters for everyone. I 100% recommend to anyone

The team do a fantastic job at maintaining a true local pub. You are always make to feel welcome with a roaring fire in winter or some acoustic music in summer. Not to mention the food!!! Every year we have an order of scotch eggs...

Came for a quick bite to eat with my partner and 3 children. They only did cobs or grub boxes. We went for the gun box on the recommendation of the 2 gents at the table next to us. I have never tasted scotch eggs...

The pub is closed at moment out selling their fabulous scotch eggs on Thursdays and Saturday You have pre order via Facebook and limited time slot to collect but if you can get there they are well worth itThe Chilli ones are my favourite Worth a try You won’t be disappointed

We visited here for a few drinks on a Saturday and although the drinks and bar snacks were nice.. the barmaid (who happened to be the land lady!) was rude and miserable. We visited multiple pubs on this occasion and the Star was the worst service we received. Won’t be visiting again which is a shame as the pub itself is very nice.

Visited this place for lunch. I had the steak and stilton baguette which comes with chips and salad. Very nice it was too. My wife had the gammon and eggs which was also very nice. A side order of onion rings wad ordered to go with our meals which were crunchy and tasty. Nice real ale and nice merlot were our drinks choice. Overall a nice village pub with decent food and friendly staff. We will definitely be trying this place again.

went in for lunch,greeted by a polite smiling lady who took our order and served our drinks,we opted for the lancaster bomber and was not disappointed,a very good pint.for our meal we had fish chips and peas,it was a very tasty meal and nicely presented.will definitely use this pub whenever we are in penkridge,very impressed and would recommend

Called in this place for lunch. I had the steak baguette which comes with chips and salad. My wife had ham and eggs with chips. We had a side order of onion rings. All food was top class. Real ale very good too. There were two staff on behind the bar and both very pleasant. The downside was that one of them was more interested in doing a crossword at the bar with the locals and I had to wait for the other member of staff to serve me on more than one occasion. Overall a lovely village pub.

We live nearby but have never been to this place before. The were four of us in our party and we ordered 2 x Scampi in a basket. 1 x lasagne and 1 x chicken goujons. Extra cheesy garlic bread as a side order. All meals very tasty and served by friendly staff. Nice real ale to drink too. Shame you don't do tabs as it's a nuisance paying for stuff each time you order it. We will definitely be trying this place again soon.

Service very good, 5 of us had all three courses, in the main very good food. The exception was the beef on main meal which myself and the wife had . The Beef is what I would expect on a Beef sandwich i.e. very very thin and a little tastless, not what I expected for a sunday roast beef dinner. Bit of a let down left me wishing I had the chicken.

A great atmosphere over the New Year with Peaky Blinders as the theme. Most folks dressed up to create a super atmosphere with authentic 'Flappers' to match. Ha Ha

Decided to call in for lunch. Nice friendly welcome. Great selection of beer. Cocker hoop was spot on. Had 4 different medium lunch meals. All excellent and a decent size. Good food, service and value.

We love this little gem of a pub and the food is great. The steaks are great and the fillet steak bagette is lush. Great service and a friendly atmosphere.

My friend and I popped in for lunch after going to Penkridge market. The decor is tasteful and bright. Served by a lovely chatty lady, we decided to order a Posh fish-finger sandwich and a cajun chicken baguette. Didn't have to wait long for meals to arrive. Could not fault either meal, very tasty and filling, each meal came with chips, side salad and homemade coleslaw. Will definitely return and recommend to friends and family.

Visited the Star after going to the Littleton Arms where we'd eaten before only to find that they weren't serving food this Bank Holiday but playing live music and serving food from a van. Not for us so having walked past the Star decided to return and so glad we did. I ordered a Cheese Sandwich with my husband and sister opting for the sausage sandwich and baguette. Ok we had to order from the bar but it wasn't a problem. The food was served quickly and it was presented beautifully with chips, chutney or mustard, coleslaw and salad. Service was friendly and helpful, when we asked for more drinks the young lady opened up a tab at the bar and brought our drinks over. As for not being child friendly, I saw the notice as I went in and if I'd had children with me I wouldn't have been offended. There were plenty of children in the pub today, they were well behaved and made welcome so I don;t see where the problem is. This is a little gem of a pub and look forward to a return visit in the near future.

Made the long journey to visit my brother and his wife who live in Penkridge. We visited the Star for lunch. The wife and I had fish,chips,mushy peas and tartar sauce, my brother had the steak baguette with Stilton and his wife had scampi. The food was very tasty and the service was fast and very friendly. The pub is very comfy and decorated in traditional country style with wooden beams. The landlord and his wife ( she is an excellent chef ) take great pride in the quality of food and beer they serve. Will certainly visit again when in the area.

After using this pub for months each time taking my 5 year old and my family. I was shocked to enter today and see a sign on the door regarding children. I am a Mom who teaches respect and wouldn't let my child misbehave in a pub or anywhere however to be greeted with this sign has totally changed my view on this pub. Before going in anywhere I don't want to spend time reading all rules and regulations just because I have a child. I felt on edge and like we weren't welcome there, it was overall a very uncomfortable experience. I will not be returning and shall tell all my family who use this pub the same. I shall spend my money where my children are made to feel welcome and not like they are a burden to your business.

We had heard that this pub has been taken over by a couple who used to run a very good pub/restaurant which has since closed. I rang to reserve a table and was told that tables were allocated on a "first come" basis.

What a great pub, small but very welcoming and homely. Six of us visited for lunch , there is an extensive range of drinks available to chose from. The lunch menu is small and on first view you may think sparse but there is a great choice

I have enjoyed lunch here twice during the past week. The food was tasty, beautifully fresh and well presented. Exceptionally good value for money too. The atmosphere is great and very friendly. I shall be returning on a regular basis.

The pub is under new ownership and has been refurbished in November 17. We went for Sunday lunch as family of 5. The food was served very quickly, well cooked and tasty. Not a huge selection to choose from but the quality is excellent and value for money, Puddings were tasty too.

The whole family were very happy great choice of vegetables loved the potatoes and roasts. I had turkey and pork. Yummy was informed need was very tender so all good. Service was very friendly and helpful. Will be back.

Visitamos el pub el sábado a la hora del almuerzo y no estaba lleno. Pedimos un menú y me dijeron que el servicio de comida a las 16:00, con un mínimo en el menú platos que no me interesa a mi marido o a mi mismo, (no cocinar en una noche de viernes). No era de un pub, tenía una bebida y a la izquierda.

Un grupo de nosotros que nuestro viaje al sur en convoy en un grupo de aquí hoy visitamos conocido por sus mientras amarrado en Penkridge.

En general, el pub es normal pero el personal lo trae por debajo de lo normal. Salimos para una copa rápida y el ambiente y la Actitud personal fue atroz. Lo peor de todo eran las dos camareros jóvenes que no sonríe una vez. No me impresionó mucho.

No food at home what do we do? Walk down the lane to the Star. Friendly reception at a warm welcoming pub. Food spot on as we have come to expect. Good value and just right when the cupboard is bare.

El personal encargado, cerveza y está bien cuidada, también comimos aquí regularmente y la comida es buena, el precio es razonable, pero no de lujo, comida de pub tradicional. No se sirve comida en una noche de viernes. Un montón de aparcamiento en la parte delantera y trasera del pub.

Lovely Sunday roast & great value too. Sticky toffee pudding was very good too. Good selection of local real ales also.

We quite often stop off at The Star in Penkridge for a cold beer. The pub is great, Ive been coming here for quite a few years off and on and Ive always received a warm welcome in good company, there is always someone to chat to. Its one of those village pubs that attracts characters..Great pub!

Eaten (and drank!) at The Star many times. Always feel very welcome and served by friendly staff. Lots of food choices with some delicious home made dishes... My husband loves the beef and Guinness pie! Food is brilliantly priced, delicious, served promptly and very filling. Would always recommend to anybody looking to eat in Penkridge.

Didn't expect much but the place turned out to be quite nice. Food was hot and fast and the service with ever bit as british as you could expect.

We had been Market and in need of something to eat so we decided to come to the Star ,we just had sandwiches and a drink very nice . Friendly staff good beer and nice and warm .

Excellent place to eat and drink, great menu choice and special board. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the pub is lovely inside with a country feeling. There is seating outside both at the front and the back which is all clean and tidy. Excellent value for money.
