Arrived. Met with attitude. Staff more focused on a wedding. Obviously ignoring walk in trade. Shoved in an awful corner. Zero acknowledgement. And too much attitude. Will not ever ever return. Obviously making too much money to care about customer service. Great shame. Especially when we have had so many happy memories in this pub over the years. You've lost us. Bye

Very friendly service, good choice, great food and all at a reasonable price. Interesting old inn, with plenty of space, and a good-sized area outside for sunny days.

As part of a large group we were looked after with care and a personal touch. The children were catered for well and the area we had reserved was perfect for the gathering. Thank you. Will recommend the Sunday lunch for sure.

Popped in for lunch. What a mistake! My wife had the burger, would have been placed on a carpet right store shelf. Completely tasteless and dry as cardboard.the crispy bacon was definitely NOT crispy. I had the 'special'??? Rack of lamb with a harrissa coating. For me the 3 chops were cooked blue, I don't mind meat cooked this rare but others might question it. Not once were we asked during our meal whether everything was satisfactory. What a waste of money.

It looks to me like the reviews have got muddled up. I don't think anyone would be rude to you at The Star Inn in Waldron. It's a lovely pub for a drink, it's not a pub where you have to eat to be allowed to sit down. Haven't eaten there so can't comment on the food. However I know that people get their table bookings muddled up too, booking a table at one pub but turning up to the other one.

We visited The Star yesterday for lunch. There was 8 of us including 5 children. The food was delicious. The children has smaller portions of the adult menu and we had clear plates all round. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and were happy to help in any way they could. We would certainly return. Thank you xx

We ordered Sunday, roast beef dinners, in the evening. Although the veg was fresh and the meat portion substantial the roast potatoes and the yorkshire puddings had obviously been kept warm from the previous lunch time and were unedible; the food was luke warm but served on hot plates. Used to better quality closer to home for just over half the price, we were disappointed. Gammon requested from the menu was served as cold ham and chips. Liver and onions was more or less tasteless.Wouldn't have minded paying the prices if the food had lived up to it.Felt let down by a pretty local pub and it's chef

The male owner(partner) was so rude when I questioned the size of the steak. He came back with a dish full of sugar slammed it on the table and said that the steak was the same weight as that . We had taken some Australian relations into what was meant to be a pleasant evening. It was totally embarrassing . As we left he said to some other customers at the bar that "there goes the entertainment for the evening".When I wrote to them and said how upset we were the female partner wrote back saying "Get over it we have!!!"

I booked a table for two inside. However, I didn't expect to be seated next to the gents loos, I mean literally next to the door to the loos in a very cramped corner. The menu looks good but some things do seam a bit on the pricy side. We both had fish and chips and it was good, but I've had better. The best part of this pub is its location if your sat outside you have stunning views of the sourounding countryside. I've been and eaten lunch here before and sat outside and really enjoyed it. But I'm not sure if go for an evening meal and sit inside. Dog friendly too. It is much better than average but I wouldn't say it was very good.

What a huge disappointment. Visted on a Saturday night with my partner, to be greeted by an unenthusiastic bar man, possibly manager? Menu choice could be better, but to me it was as if the food was bought in from the cash and carry. Wait for the ding! Very over priced for what it is, and considering the orange juice cost approximately £2 for half a glass, and was poured from a carton which was clearly marked 89p just about sums this place up! Will not be recommending. Lovely location and pub, shame about staff and food.

We like this pub but as it is quite a few miles away from where we live, we treat it as a bit of a special event when we go there.Upon arrival we bought and some drinks and ordered our food from the less than extensive menu, having already been warned by the waiter that the 'normal chef isn't on tonight'. We should have heeded the warning because five minutes later the waiter came back and said that one of the starter dishes was off (strange when we saw it being served to two people later). Anyway, we went without the starter and I asked if everything else on the menu was available to which the waiter replied 'yes it is'. Well, a few minutes later back he came to say that one of the main courses was now off as well so we had to choose something else. This we did but I didn't think we had heard the end of it. As if on cue, the waiter returned and told us that there was only oneof a particular main course left which posed us with a problem as we had ordered two. At this point we gave up and cancelled our order.I mentioned this to the landlord when I paid for our drinks and was offered a rather limp 'sorry about that' as an apology. This experience has somewhat changed my opinion of this pub, after all, being 'out' of half of your main courses on a Friday evening when there is a busy weekend looming up suggests a distinct lack of planning on the landlord's behalf. Unless of course he wants to spend his weekend apologising to people!

We had been there in April 2014 and it was nice enough so chose to go there again in October with my dad. Very disappointing I must say and not somewhere I'd go again. We had steaks and they were incredibly grizzly, the table next to us had the same issue and complained and because they were regulars got theirs for free. I felt we were more of a burden than anything else. Won't be returning a third time that's for sure

Went in for Sunday lunch, was there more than 30 minutes after asking for a menu, had to get one ourselves, then no one came over to take our order, they were busy but still! So an hour after we had been there we finally get our roast chicken, which was so poor! One piece on the bone in the middle of a huge empty plate, veg came on the side, but was frozen / ready prepared broccoli and carrots, nothing fresh. I asked for extra veg and was offered 'frozen peas' by the rude landlady! I said you must have other veg as you offer a pumpkin & butternut risotto, she said no that's pre-prepared already..... Not a good sign. Was never offered dessert, never offered a coffee, terrible service and bland plain food - not what you want a for a Sunday roast - go elsewhere! Bad value too.

so so so rude.the food in the restaurant was lovely however the older bar man was patronizing and snooty. He spoke down to my mother and myself when we pointed out that we had been over charged for the size drink we were given. We asked for a large baileys which would be 100ml as a regular baileys is always served as 50 ml.My mother has run many pubs & i currently work in a cocktail bar, so we knew straight away the measurement given was incorrect, however the gentleman decided to argue with myself saying that my cocktail bar was 'obviously a different kind of place and has different rules' i then tried to explain that it wasn't a rule it was a law, he chose not to listen and we left very disappointed. There was also no weights and measures list up around the bar. This is also a legal requirement.

The Star is a very atmospheric 14th-century inn located in the countryside in the beautiful area of Old Heathfield. The food is outstanding: the salad with garlic prawns and pomegranates is delicately flavoured and is one of the best I've ever tasted. The gardens are lovely, looking out over the Sussex Weald. The staff are charming and helpful. Definitely one not to miss! I

We were looking for a place to have coffee and cake after Michelham Priory house and garden visit. We discovered this lively and quirky tea garden. It was very busy with groups of families and friends. It was organised and provided a friendly service.

Being a bit of a Sunday roast connoisseur I’d heard good things about this pubs Sunday roasts! Booked it up (recommended) and had the three meat roast! Way too much for me BUT oh my god was it delicious. The meat was melt in mouth, Roasted potatoes just right, all homemade and with the biggest Yorkshire pudding I’ve had. The gravy stole the show, it was delicious and I’d love to know how they made it taste sooooo good! 10/10 (my first ever) I’ll be back for sure!

Dreadful menu and terrible service. Menu was limited to say the least and they didn’t have what I wanted. Had breakfast there this morning and couldn’t have poached eggs only fried, reason being ‘we only have 1 chef’ ……a chef who can’t poach eggs!!!!
