Didn't try their food options but very nice atmosphere and friendly staff

The good..... Atmosphere & food The bad.... Lack of booking system to reserve a table , miserable bar staff The ugly..... Probably the most expensive pub in sussex, £7 for a pint of Guinness is absurd, £8 for a pint of craft beer, it won't be long until this place charges £10 a pint, it's no wonder people are staying at home more, this is the last time I will visit this pub for that reason

We have been coming to this pub for many years, enjoying exceptional thai food. Tonight we were extremely disappointed and shan't be going cack for food. What a shame 😟

Not for families or non-smokers. They didn't provide a high chair at lunchtime and the outside area is an enclosed smokers' den. Keep the traditional decor, maybe lose the cancer fumes? The Thai food is good though, authentic and they speak Thai. We'll probably come again in the winter, when sitting inside is preferable anyway.

Been locked in the cellar here by the landlady for 5 days now, she's still not found me! Lovely place, staff are great, and drinks are top notch!!

Waited an hour for very disappointing food. Rude staff with attitude. When we questioned our wait the response was “do you have somewhere you need to be?”! No apology. Expensive. Won’t go back.

Great local pub, great atmosphere. Good for a drink, chat and a game of toads. If it’s quiet the food is generally good. If it’s busy, I’d avoid eating there. They really struggle in the kitchen and you’ll leave disgruntled. I’ve been coming to the Stand Up for years. Love the place. Atmosphere when having drinks is fab. When eating I generally have 2 types of experience…. 1) the best Thai food ever OR 2) the worst food and experience with extremely long wait times and poor customer service It’s a shame because when it’s good it’s great. It’s very expensive but you don’t mind paying a bit extra for good food and leave feeling satisfied. When it’s bad it’s terrible. My last experience we waited over an hour for the food. When the food arrived, there was no apology for the long wait. The food was cold, the meat was overcooked and dry. Really disappointing because for what is, it’s pretty pricey (£15 a dish, without rice) and the quality just didn’t justify the price. I’ve unfortunately experienced this now a few times. They’ve also stopped serving a small courtesy bowl of prawn crackers with your meal. Shame because it’s the little things like this that make your experience more enjoyable. No doubt I will go there again. & no doubt I’ll experience the good and the bad again. I just might think twice about eating there next time.

Decent enough boozer but some high rip factor going on with pintage, £7 for pint of Guinness, come on! , that's more than the average for some parts of central London.

Love this place. Great atmosphere and really good food. Cant beat a Friday night in this pub. The quiz is pretty good too!

Good local bar. Offers Thai food if food required. Good selection of alcohol choices but prices are at upper end of bar prices. Safe and friendly environment.

If you want a great Thai meal, then this is the place to eat. The food is absolutely delicious. The service is warm and friendly, and the Inn has bags of atmosphere.

First visit to the Stand Up Inn. I really liked the pub and the atmosphere. However, £7 for a pint or Guinness is eye wateringly expensive. I honestly thought the barman was having a laugh. Central London prices are a good deal cheaper. Every business has to make a profit but exploiting your customers is generally a short lived enterprise.

Lovely little beer garden and two very friendly people behind the bar. My mate said the food was delicious, too, but I didn't partake on this occasion but I certainly will next time!!!

what a gorgeous traditional country pub! very cute and quaint with a large selection of ales. they served us lovely thai food, & have quite an extensive menu with gluten free & vegan options. recommended to us by a local & so glad we came!

Pretty good pub. But expensive drinks

Visited on a Sunday lunch time. Great food menu with plenty of Thai options available. Extensive beer menu too, plenty of non-larger options to wet your taste buds.

We visited for a birthday and could not have been treated better. We were delayed and subsequently late for our booking but ringing ahead, and still later than expected, our table was still free. We were greeted by the warm and welcoming bar-staff and settled in for the night. The Thai food was of a great standard and offered such good value for money, the selection of craft beers and different spirits left us spoilt for choice. Any preconceptions we may have had, based in some of the previous reviews, were quickly dispelled and I would not hesitate to recommend the Stand Up to someone seeking a lovely evening

Terrible service and attitude. Tried to book a table during the week but told don’t take bookings. Turned up to find loads of booked tables. Turned up at 6pm with 2 young children waited 45 mins for a free table ordered food at 7pm told we can’t order as an hour wait for food and kids have to be out for 8. Landlady had a terrible attitude and will never go again. So disappointed I highly suggest no one with families ever goes to this pub as they have bonuses of.customer service or disappointing a family on a night out

Delicious food, nice people but very cold pub even near the fire

Vibrant, colourful pub with an excellent range of beers and craft ales. It was packed when I went with no tables so couldn't sample the food but it looked good. Will return to try the food.

We selected from the two course lunchtime menu and it was excellent. Everything was tasty and flavoursome. The Tempura was freshly cooked. Very reasonably priced. They have a good range of beers. A very enjoyable meal.

Management are an angry grumpy.

Beautiful Thai meal always better to eat in. Came quickly we went with meat sharing platter, duck red curry and a wonderful pad Thai with prawns.

Everything was excellent. The food was amazing, the best Thai we've had in a while and the atmosphere was electric. The staff were friendly and so welcoming, it was bustling but that didn't impact the service at all! The food came out fast and the bar staff served us quickly. Just overall wonderful place to pop for a pint and some great food! To top it off it's also doggo friendly so we got to see some well behaved pups! Highly recommend!

Not acknowledged as we came in. The bar lady was busy talking to a local but a quick 'hello' shouldn't be much of an effort. We sat down, I moved a coaster out of the way and had a sticky hand from the sauce on the dirty table. Went over to the bar to order coffees and got told they don't do any hot drinks at all! I know it's a pub but jeez...

We took advantage of the 2 course lunch menu for £11.25 and thought it very good indeed. Pleasant staff, nice surroundings and a good selection of beers. Would recommend.

Great pub with amazing Thai food!

Food is good and certainly worth it for that, nicely situated looking onto the High Street. I've had cheaper, better beers/lager in Sloane Square so some words about the prices was required: a decent sized round would bankrupt a normal person!

Awful pub, rude unhelpful staff and very expensive - not sure why we went there tbh! Wouldn't recommend it.

This is a great pub, with lovely Thai food. Totally let down by the sour attitude of one of the female bar staff. Rude about having teenagers in the pub for food curfew at 8pm. Keen to find reasons why not to serve customers.

Sadly the staff were very rude. The food order was incorrect twice and instead of being apologetic they said there was nothing wrong with it, twice. Actually it was rather humiliating - I shall not be returning.

Become our local even though we’re miles away. Can’t beat a decent pint with a very decent Thai dinner to go with it. Always a good atmosphere and full of dogs.

What a brilliant pub! Decor is a traditional English pub and full of character. It's very popular among the local community. The real twist comes from served food - Tai cuisine, which is delish! Brilliant!

I had a meeting with a contact yesterday, and we were looking for a place to lunch in Lindfield. We literally went in by chance and it proved to be a fantastic discovery. The lady behind the bar was welcoming despite us arriving before serving time, and we patiently waited for 12 to order. While I looked at the menu, I noticed immediately it was an exclusively Thai menu and the usual alarm bell started ringing: pub+thai food=microwave lunch. Boy, I was wrong. First I overheard some other customers, clearly regulars, praising the food which picked my interest and frankly, the food odour in the pub as the kitchen was starting was pretty alluring. We stayed, ordered and what followed was an hour of awesome, freshly cooked Thai food as flagrant and flavoursome as it gets. Portions were quite copious and the service was super efficient without feeling rushed. Honestly one of the best Thai dining experiences in a while. I couldn't recommend more, and I will definitely return.

Totally appalled. I called in the week to book a table which was, oddly, a more difficult experience than any other venue as they have a rule about bookings for under a certain number of people. I explained it was for a birthday meal and they eventually obliged the booking by email. However, upon turning up at 7pm with my son, who is 12 and was very smartly attired, we were told that he had to be out by 8pm and that there was a 45-minute wait for food so, in other words, go away! Perhaps, when I clearly explained it was a birthday meal at the time of booking, it would have been a good time to mention the odd curfew ‘rule’. The stern, miserable attitude and lack of empathy shown by the member of staff was deplorable. Typical poor British work ethic with a ‘we’re doing you a favour’ attitude. Little did they realise that my partner is a group manager at The Morning Advertiser - ie friends in high places. Not a good move. It was very busy in The Stand Up but, with such a cold reception, I fail to see why. I told them it was their loss and left. Disgraceful.

Lovely pub if you’re going for food or just a pint, great selection of Thai dishes, small dishes were really yummy and I would recommend the wings.

Very good pub and a friendly place

It's a nice pub - the food is good, great beer and the atmosphere is often buzzing. BUT...many of the staff have a really rotten attitude. The customer is not your enemy - they're there to eat a meal and have a drink. On numerous occasions you're made to feel like you're inconveniencing them just by turning up. I hope the management/owners recognise the problem and are willing to work on it. I still go back, but seem to leave with a bitter taste in my mouth from time to time.

Good beer served by the nicest staff

After visiting the Stand Up for a meal and a couple of pints I couldn't reconcile some of the reviews I'd read with my most enjoyable experience. My son and his partner have just relocated to the village and we'd heard good things about the food. The Thai menu is great value if it's to your taste and is beautifully fresh and delicious. The atmosphere in the "cafe bar" (it's not a gastro pub, thank goodness) is friendly and enjoyable. Plenty of room to spread out around a central bar area. OK, the beer is a fiver but the standard is very high with locally sourced real ale and a wide range of alternatives. I'm a beer snob and this was a good pint. Now on to the staff. It's a busy pub and to begin with they looked short of a pair of hands but the servers couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. I'll be paying more visits to this little gem.

Best Thai food in the area. Tasty and good value. Friendly service. Would prefer to be able to ring through takeaway or order online than go in to order as don’t want to sit in pub on my own whilst waiting for it.

We love to visit this pub as it has a great selection of drinks, delicious food from the Thai kitchen and a darts and Toad board to have a sociable game in. However, we’ve noticed that this pub is becoming well known in the area for its very unwelcoming and grumpy bar staff and experienced this for ourselves first hand! Not sure if this is an issue with management, or with the general attitude between staff members, but sadly the customers seem to be facing the brunt of this attitude with sarcastic comments, rude tones and general unfriendliness. I hope they can find a way to make their staff happier!

Good beers/ciders on tap and delicious Thai curries

We have visited this pub on several occasions as family live in the beautiful village. We were flying from Gatwick on a Friday so we decided to stay with family on the Thursday night and really fancied Thai, the food here is wonderful. There were 6 of us including my 19 and 23 year old daughters. When we first entered at 7.30pm we were asked for ID from my 19 year old. Totally agree, she was just having coke but as a landlady myself I totally understand. They have some form of policy that no under 18's after a set time, we said we would go back and get her passport which was a 15 minute walk away (there and back) but the bar staff, two of them, new female staff and a male staff member who was I assume in charge said it would be ok. We then went on to buy a coke for my 19 year old, a cider, a lager and a bottle of wine for my sister and myself. We ordered our starters which were lovely and was just awaiting on our main courses when the male staff member asked if we had finished. We assumed he meant our starters and said yes and then he asked us to leave the premises as my 19 year old could not be in the pub after 9pm. We explained that we had not yet but had paid for our main courses and also a half bottle of wine was untouched. I have never ever been made to feel so unwelcome. The landlady had to come down which she told me was an inconvenience as she was upstairs with her young family to organise the refund as I demanded my money back for food and drink that was not eaten. The landlady then went on to blame the female bar staff - she was new and didn't know the rules. Well the other staff member was there and if they both did not know the rules then she should have been behind the bar to ensure her staff had adequate training. Why did they not just say at the beginning, that we could only eat if they saw ID. My daughter could have got this whilst we were waiting for our starters and the beginning of our weekend away would have not been ruined.

I’m a 30 year old man with a beard. Not being served because the staff have a control complex and I didn’t have ID. Food was oily too… other pubs in the high street, go to those, embarrassing

A nice vibe - and a lovely Thai menu.

We've been in a few times when around the area and it's always a good atmosphere for a local pub. Dog friendly and the food is great too. Check the menu & I'd recommend booking a table for food at least the day before you go as otherwise you may find that you're the stand up act for the evening

Visiting Lindfield on business and was recommended this little place. It’s very unassuming and like a regular pub. Don’t let that fool you. The Thai food here is delicious. I would highly recommend the duck rolls. Very yummy!! If I’m Lindfield this place shouldn’t be missed!
