The Stags Head Goosnargh in Preston

Dropped in as I had been for a walk in the area. Pub clean and tidy, however at £4.65 for a pint of cask bitter wouldn't be rushing back anytime soon.

What a lovely atmosphere in here, we firstly went to the plough pub as it was closer and the service was horrendous in there, rude staff, they spoke to us as if we were an inconvenience to them as they were expecting a large group short. so we left and travelled alittle bit further out to the stags head and was definitely worth it. Food was brilliant the staff couldn’t do enough for us, I would highly recommend this pub. Thanks to Sue and Jack for making us feel welcomed.

Lovley Sunday roast and pudding staff very attentive even saw a ghostly going on …. Was spooky …… Defo the number 1 place to go for a very filling quality meal. Our waiter/waitress were Isla and Jack 😀

Starter and mains not as delicious as usual over cooked cauliflower fritters and soggy burger over cooked duck , the deserts were beautiful as usual The waitress was lovely excellent job

We are lucky enough to live in the village so visit on a regular basis, never yet had a bad meal and the staff are always friendly and efficient, we had Chloe serving us today who was extra lovely and helpful.

Visited the Stags Head last week with the family, I've been many times before and I've never been disappointed. It's a nice pub serving quality meals for a reasonable price. We were served by Mark who looked after our every need. Thanks we will return.

Lovely pub with nice decor. The staff were friendly. Cheesy garlic bread and the black pudding chorizo stack was nice. The chicken burger was delicious. Steak pie was ok, the pastry was a bit hard so slightly over done. I would visit again.

Superb roast, great portions, plenty of sides, meat soft. Excellent service from Kevin, never left waiting or wanting for anything.

We are regular visitors to The Stags Head and they never disappoint. The atmosphere, staff & food are all excellent. Served today by Niamh who was friendly, very helpful & knowledgeable. We bring our furry friend which makes the experience even better. Do not hesitate to pop in if you’re passing… you really won’t regret it :)

This has always been a place for me to meet with friends but, unfortunately, we didn't have the best experience this Tuesday. Coffee machine had apparently been cleaned when I asked for a coffee at 8.30 p.m. - so no coffee after my meal. We were given notice that last orders was about to be called (9.45 p.m.). Clearly, a hint to leave! I did email but no convincing explanation. Can only think the staff wanted to go home early rather than cater for customers. The two stars is as the staff were pleasant whilst giving these messages! I will be avoiding in future.

Was served by the lovely Niamh the other night, always made sure we had a drink refill and was there if we needed anything, absolutely no complaints and always had a huge smile on her face, will definitely be back!

Excellent food and the staff are lovely. Niamh was especially friendly and provided great service, always willing to help.

Me and my friends went in for a meal on Monday 25th to celebrate my friends promotion. Two of us had the steak pie and I had the burger, all three meals were perfect but it was the staff that made our night! For a Monday the atmosphere was brilliant but it was Niamh and Mark that made our girls trip perfect. Thank you to the stags staff for going above and beyond :)

Came here for Sunday lunch around 1pm. The staff were so friendly and helpful and attentive. Food was amazing, we left absolutely stuffed. Will definitely come back again. Thank you x

This is my local pub and I come here quite frequently. I’ll start with the starters (no pun intended!) are great - the salt and pepper chicken & mushroom pepper pot is always on the order! Not to knock the mains, but they could do with some work and are quite basic. Overall a lovely pub with excellent service and will continue to keep coming here - thank you :)

Last minute booking for a Sunday lunch, food was amazing. We call to this pub now and again when in the area and have alway had a great experience and amazing food. Value for money and quality of the food is amazing this place is a must. Highly recommended well done to the stags head . Fab in the summer too the outside seating is lovely aswell

After reading the many positive reviews we chose this place for a family birthday celebration. Food was excellent and service polite, efficient and reasonably priced. Our main courses of Fisherman's pie with vegetables, Chicken Kiev and Fish & Chips all beautifully prepared and cooked; servings are very generous, we were all very impressed. Dessert of sticky toffee pudding equally substantial. A perfect lunchtime meal and one of the best pub meals we have come across in a long time..

Our second visit here. Not only beautiful food but true hospitality from every person you encounter. The atmosphere is just right and the venue is warm and spacious. Chloe our waitress looked after us really well and made our experience even better. Will definitely be back

We went to the Stags Head this evening (Fri 9th Feb) for a family meal as it was my birthday on the Monday just gone. Everything was pretty spot on to be honest. The welcome, the service and the food. Emma was a lovely waitress always checking back to see if the food was ok and that we had everything we needed. She got colouring for our little boy which we were grateful for as it's always hard entertaining a little boy but we felt welcomed and relaxed. My husband ordered the steak which was perfection and my duck was amazing. We haven't been out in a long time and I have to say the duck dish was the best dish I've had in a long time. We have literally been home 30 mins but I have already told relatives that I highly recommend this pub. Can't wait to come back and try the steak pie that's my next dish I would like to try. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an extraordinary dining experience. We will be back with friends and family. We also feel it was great value for money with the portion size and quality especially the kids menu. This is something we look at first and their kids menu is full of variety which makes a parents life much easier. Well done guys and thank you Emma you were lovely and a delight. When we were in the car on the way home our little boy kept saying how nice you were.

Went to the Stags Head Goosnargh to have a meal for my wife's 60th birthday 30/01/24. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and escorted to our pre booked table where we found a happy birthday bunting and a lovely birthday card for the wife...how wonderful ! The food we had was absolutely delicious- the steak pie in particular was outstanding ! All the staff were so friendly, polite and efficient . All in all a 5 star service - this was our first visit to the Stags Head and we will certainly be returning .

Brass band weekend at the stags was awesome. Held annually in December the event of fun, the atmosphere is great and the food was good. Drinks are a tad pricey these days but overall lovely place

I found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and I'm happy to recommend it to others on here.We were looking for somewhere nice in the countryside for a family meal on the way back from a day trip to Blackpool that wasn't much of a detour and The Stag's Head fit the bill perfectly.Given that the M55 is the main route in and out of the resort, the restaurant, in the quaint village of Goosnargh was easy to reach off the final junction before you get back on to the M6 and a real change of pace from Blackpool itself.The service from our waitress Aly was excellent as was the food with both my wife and I ordering from the 'Taste of Lancashire' section of the menu for our main courses.Having read of the national reputation of Goosnargh Duck, I went for that - when in Rome - and was not disappointed. It was delicious, as was my starter, the Black Pudding and Bacon Stack.My wife said the same for her Mrs Kirkham's Lancashire Cheese, Leek and Potato Pie.My only grumble, and I won't mark down for this as it's a personal belief but something I know many others are passionate about, is that my wife's dish was not a 'true pie' but merely a pastry lid. Food was delicious and fresh. First meal out since lockdown and it felt safe with tables well enough apart and plenty of hand gel available. Very friendly staff especially our server Charlie who was enthusiastic and friendly.

Nice big pub with a good outside space too. Friendly and efficient table service who go the extra mile.... our server, Aly, negotiated food for us 10 mins after they'd stopped serving, which was much appreciated and delicious.

We went here bank holiday Monday, there was bits missing from the menu as the day before was busy but still plenty to choose from, we’ve been here a few time food is lovely but this particular day it wasn’t at its best, staff can’t do enough for you, Charlie our waitress was always smiling, friendly, helpful & couldn’t do enough for us, we are back there next weekend for our Sunday lunch as they are 10/10

I had the pleasure of visiting The Stags head last night with with a couple of friends. Even though the restaurant was busy, they managed to give us a table and we all felt very secure with the covid procedures in place. We were very lucky to have Charlie looking after us. Nothing was too much trouble and she made us feel very welcome and even helped me decide my order as I couldn't make my mind up. Food was excellent and atmosphere was lovely. Will be back and definitely recommend.

Just got back from a wonderful evening at The Stag’s Head. The food was wonderful and the service even better. Charlie, who served us, was so attentive and helpful and made us feel so relaxed. Ellen, who was on the food run, was also great. We will certainly be back again soon!

Just popped in on off chance, staff were friendly and courteous. Food was tasty with big home style size portions. Outside eating area catch’s the sun into the early evening and a kids play area and a patch of grass to play sports and a small chicken enclosure. All in all a wonderful place to visit as a couple or with friends and family. A special thank you to ally who served us.

We visited on the 26th of April 2020 to have dinner with our friends. We were greeted straight away and shown to our table. Our waitress (Aly) was soooooo lovely, friendly and made amazing recommendations on the menu (chicken pot pie, yum!) Service was perfectly attentive and we were never left without a drink. It was a wet, cold and rainy day. We were warmly welcomed by Lewis and all the staff. The table we were offered by the real fire was perfect. I could have chosen several things from the menu and when I saw them served to other tables I kept thinking I’d made a mistake. However everything that came out of the kitchen looked great and from the reaction of the other guests tasted great too. Mine certainly did. Can’t wait to go back after lockdown.

Our Grandson loves it here. He actually used those words. We have visited fairly regularly over the last few months and we have always been warmly welcomed and provided with great food and service. Shout out to Diana who has always provided the service with a smile. Hopefully we will be able to visit again soon. Highly recommended.

A superb supper date. The black pudding and bacon stack was amazing and so was the boyfriend's whitebait. My main local steak was amazing. Overall a tasty evening topped by amazing service by Aly! can't wait for our next visit once lockdown is over.

Me and my partner had a wonderful meal here! All our expectations were exceeded in terms of food quality however the service is the reason I have come here to leave a review. Given the whole COVID situation, I was very nervous and apprehensive as I am partly disabled and require significant help when eating out, a particular staff member by the name of Lewis helped calm my anxiety and attended to all my needs, he made our evening one to remember, he helped read out the menu to me and aided me in choosing a lovely Burger. I would highly recommend the Stags to all my friends and family and would be happy to be served by Lewis once again. Thank you the Stags Head!

My family 'bubble' of 6 visited here on spec for lunch on a very wet Tuesday lunchtime during the half term holidays as we'd been deprived of our planned break to Yorkshire. What a lovely welcome we got from the staff despite not having booked. Everywhere spotlessly clean and very secure. Lovely environment and the menu choices were superb with something for everyone from the more traditional to some really interesting offers. All food beautifully cooked and piping hot. We had a mixture of meals - Game Pot pie, Chicken katsu curry, lovely steak and children's portions of lasagne plus beefburger with cheese in a brioche bun. Delicious desserts on offer too no rush for us to eat & get on our way which these days is novel in itself. Made for a lovely couple of normal hours. Will definitely be back to sample other menu offerings!!

Wife and I had to get out so went here for a spot if lunch. Wife had chicken pot pie, tasty but very little chicken. I had the venison and pheasant pot pie, very tasty but.,., some very tough meat, like it had been cooked ages ago and then reheated, but as I say very tasty. Great service and a nice atmosphere.

I popped in for some lunch today. The food and service were spot on (as always). They have all the covid safe stuff in place. I had the spring rolls, spiced thai bean burger (highly recommend this) and the sundae of the day. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

I took my mum for lunch at The Stag’s Head, Goosnargh and absolutely everything was faultless. Fantastic service throughout, extremely accommodating with my Cockapoo and delicious food. We had hand battered fish and chips and lasagne which were both ace - highly highly recommended.

Very clean pub and lovely atmosphere with an open coal/log fire. Wonderful helpful staff. Sunday family meal was delicious. Definitely recommend the Sunday trio roast, very tasty and plentiful. The fish and chips was enormous! Sticky toffee pud and ice cream was big portion and again delicious. Presentation was lovely. Have already planned to go again in couple weeks.

Visited last Wednesday for tea with my dad, not been to this pub/restaurant since last year but still as fabulous as ever. Lovely fresh food, starters main and dessert all well cooked super tasty and plenty to go around.Would highly recommended the Stags steak burger with extra Stilton was super tasty. Service was great our waiter Lewis was so helpful and friendly, what a really nice Guy! Enjoyed it so much we enquired about Christmas lunch with the rest of our household, still going ahead so booked a table for 5. Lewis was even kind enough to take us and show were we would be sat etc to make sure we were happy with everything. 5 star customer service indeed.Can’t rate the Stags head enough, will be back soon

Eaten here two weeks in a row. We were so impressed with our first meal here, we decided to eat here again and second time was even better than the first time! The food, staff and service was spot on. Love this place!!! Highly recommend the Sunday Roasts.. amazing!!

Myself, my Wife and Son visited The Stags for lunch on a strong recommendation from friends. Staff were very personable and friendly which made the service and atmosphere very warming. The food was fantastic. Both in presentation and taste. We opted for The Stags Chicken which was lovely and served as quite a large portion, the home-made Lasagne which was delicious, and the children’s Chicken Nuggets served with Chips. Overall, a very friendly, relaxing pub experience for a lovely family lunch. We’ll definitely be visiting again in the near future. Thanks again!

On long journey from Wiltshire to the Lakes......the ideal alternative to garbage motorway service stations !! Very organised for Covid, excellent menu and drinks and attentive service. Recommend the pheasant, fish pie and a chicken/bacon pie. Just the perfect lunch ! Highly recommended.

We were supposed to be getting married in Vegas today (for the second time this year!) but as that obviously wasn't going to happen we decided on a drive out to Beacon Fell. I looked for a dog friendly pub and came across The Stags Head.It was warm enough for an Al Fresco lunch; we both had pies, Steak & Kidney and Cheese & Onion and they were really tasty. Our waitress was really helpful and friendly too, as were the rest of the staff. It was quiet outside and the dogs were allowed off their leads to explore the garden.We will definitely be returning!P.S. Enjoyed the 'Wishbone Ash' and 'Fleetwood Mac' too, courtesy of the gentleman over the hedge tending to his pigeons!

Sensational on a Sunday. Service was amazing! Had the gyozas and spring rolls, followed by veggie burger. Scrumptious!

Lovely and cosy setting inside. Quickly seen to upon waiting for a seat. Took order for drinks as soon as we were seated. Food came in decent time, not too long and not too quick! No checkback to see how our food was, but it really wasn't needed. It was absolutely gorgeous. Two Sunday roasts and two kids meatballs and pasta, both so fresh. Fantastic food and impeccable service. Will certainly be regular visitors.

What a great choice we made choosing this pub, my husband and i visited with my and his girlfriend and our 1 year old grandson, the ambience was so welcoming. As we arrived we hand sanitised our hands then was led to our socially distanced table, we ordered the food it took about 30 minutes to come but the tables were are virtually full so that wasn’t too bad. I had gammon my husband had the biggest mixed grill i’ve ever seen, my son had a burger and his girlfriend had the duck, and of course baba had a childs meal of tomato pasta. All meals were enjoyed by all and everyone said they would recommend the dishes. The staff were polite and helpful nothing was too much for them, we are going to book & visit again in the next few weeks so i am looking forward to that.

We just called in while passing after a trip out. My wife is disabled so she remained in the car while I asked if we could have a meal. I was treated very friendly and helpful, I returned to my car and we went back into the pub. All the staff were very happy to help us. We order homemade soups which were both excellent our main course was gammon which again was excellent and well presented. The price was just what I expected for the quality of food and service. No need to worry about covid as The Stags Head is doing its bit to keep their customers safe. Hand sanitiser on entry, a separate entrance and exit and well spaced tables. Our 3 course lunch was great with service that was friendly, warm and professional. We didn't feel rushed and little extras, such as requesting an extra portion of custard, was happily provided. Ample parking.

Visited the Stags head for a birthday meal back in July, we were welcomed and sat to our table by Simon. A birthday card was waiting for us which was a special touch. We ordered starters and mains and nothing was too much trouble. This was our first meal out after lock down and also with our new born baby. We were made to feel really at home and nothing was too much trouble. I was also allowed to breast feed and still feel comfortable we will definitely be back. ps the pate is to die for!

Gastropub this is not. The meaning of gastropub is a pub which serves high quality food .my meal could not be described as high quality by any stretch of the imagination. Steak pie, mostly pastry, hard frozen chips, rock hard carrots. The waitress described them as el dente! For her information el dente means cooked till neither soft nor hard , but firm and slightly chewy. Very poor would never return .

Great pub. Food was very good and good pacing of meal. Staff were lovely too. Went on a busy 'Eat Out to Help Out' Tuesday and although busy, it was distanced well and didn't feel stressful to eat there.

We booked a table for a family of 4, we had our 2 children with us (2yrs and 7yrs old) and we were not disappointed. Lovely welcome, well organised (COVID-19), great quick attentive service and excellent food and drink! I will be returning and would recommend a visit! Book early as it gets booked up very quick!
