Dark, dismal and staff only thinking about the money going into the tills

Lovely dog friendly pub with a nice sized beer garden. Food was great.

Food was nice and service was great but my portion (salmon) was tiny in comparison to my friends who had the chicken Caesar salad/ chicken wings. Would come back but don’t order the salmon if you’re hungry!

An absolute delight of a pub. All of the staff were so friendly and it really does just make a place what it is when you find that. Akeem, the bouncer, was so lovely- we'd been at a picnic at the park nearby so at first he was hesitant about us bringing all the carrier bags we had, but after seeing it was just leftover cake he let us in. Most bouncers would not be accommodating like he was, we very much appreciated him and his excellent hospitality. The drink selection here is also fantastic. Highly recommend :)

Good food and a large selection of drinks, including mocktails. Our server was very friendly and the price was a bit on the expensive side but mostly reasonable.

Service was poor. The line for the bar went outside the pub. Table service they forgot about a friends drinks. However drinks amazing. Good delicious

Historic pub with a great outdoor garden. Great selection of beers on tap, attentive staff, and well varied food selection. Iconic cauliflower wings.

Beautiful pub, nice atmosphere, lovely staffs. However, their food menu needs to be more precise. I ordered here the other week, and I had a problem with the described items. I came back today with my partner and friends and ordered a different dish and there was a problem again. The problem with the food menu is that they need to work alongside the kitchen to describe the correct dish items with what is in stock. The food is good but was rather disappointed when it arrived with missing items and then finding out the kitchen doesn’t have it vs the menu. I would have been ok with it if the FOH knew this and told me when ordering. Nevertheless the pub is amazing drink wise but the kitchen and FOH needs organising when it comes to the dishes and menu. Alongside this staff should be giving cutlery and sauces etc before the food arrives. This will eliminate staff running around and having issues with patrons. Overall we were supplemented for this mistake this time round but this is notice for the GM to look into this. Cheers

Having visited London a few times over the last four weeks this pub is absolutely fantastic. Great food , excellent selection of beers 🍻 wines and spirits . Brilliant service 👍 and a seriously good vibe is what this pub is all about . Highly recommended and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Five ⭐ for me 👍🍻💯

I went on Sunday for my mother in laws birthday lunch. As we got there early with my kids. The waitress took my debit card to reserve the food just in-case we didnt pay. Which is fair enough. But after a week I have been panicking about where my debit card is. Then I just thought the waitress from the table NEVER GAVE IT BACK TO ME. I have been calling and calling no is answering. I have emailed and still waiting to hear back if they have my debit card. When we paid for the bill this should of been given back to me straight away. It wasn't even that busy for the waitress to forget to give a customer back a bank card. I would appreciate someone from the pub to return my call to email. WARNING !!!!

Came to this pub as part of a birthday party. Nice atmosphere and good food. However I had a real problem with an order I made via the QR code for table service. After waiting over half an hour my drink didn't show up. I went to to bar to chase this up but I didn't get served after waiting 40+ minutes (it was really frustrating seeing staff serve people who arrived after me). I eventually found a member of staff who was really nice and helped me get my drink, but by the time I got served I missed a lot of the party. Really frustrating turn of events. I would come back, but probably when it's quieter and there's a better chance of being served.

I recently had lunch at The stag and was thoroughly disappointed with the Sunday roast. The portion size was incredibly underwhelming, consisting of just two thin slices of mediocre beef, accompanied by lackluster sides. To be charged £24.50 for such a subpar meal, plus the additional service charge, felt like a complete rip-off. Regrettably, this experience has ensured that I will not be returning.

The Stag, staggering on service and staff interaction. One staff member deliberately disregarded my friends call as he passed by. The same staff member who forgot to give us cutlery with our very messy starter. Also the stags online menu doesn't match up with their hard copy (paper) menu, might be best to order drinks online and food with a member of staff; if you can grab their attention that is. And I'm still waiting on that extra gravy I asked for... thankfully I wasn't charged for it. Let's delve in to the details as service was the poorest thing and there's no more I can say on the matter. The food was decent, not outstanding, and that is why this critic gave it three stars instead of two. If a half-star rating was possible, it would have been awarded. The stag do have one of the nicest gardens I have been in and the atmosphere was very energetic, buzzing with the summer vibes we have long awaited. Suggestion: I recommended making a reservation in advance to prevent any potential disappointment, as those who did not reserve ahead of time struggled to secure a table outdoors. Or if you're a kind soul with a small party, offer to share your table.

This place is great! Love the big bar front, lots of choices of drinks and beer, my Stag burger was yummy, the service was excellent! Definitely going back again!

Beautiful pub with a beautiful beer garden. The burger was so great but the compulsory tip when you order outside is wild. £7.70 is steep for a pint and when you consider the area it’s fine. But the compulsory tip of £0.96 per drink is WILD? I went back and forth on the app to see if I can take it off but I couldn’t. Also coming from someone who also works in management within hospitality: the replies by management on any comments less than perfect are super unprofessional. We’re allowed to give our feedback and it’s off putting to do so when owners of an establishment are super defensive and use guilt tactics as a response.

19.50 for a bacon burger that was the most average burger i could get anywhere it tasted fine but poor price point to match what was no more than 2.50 worth of ingredients. I never write reviews but this was poor

What a beautiful venue, food, staff and service. It was my very first visit and the way I been treated will be my continue visiting place. An eye catching building standing at the corner of the road and black paint colour is getting your attention. Drinks they're serving are awesome. Wine to sparking, beer from the best breweries in cask and keg in different varieties. Food was delicious as I tasted couliflower wings. Must book your table otherwise it will be hard to have seat btw they have very nice beer garden at back. Serve was noticeably great and staff was friendly & helpful to make things better for you. I like the big candle stand at counter which was impressive and looks amaz.

Sunday roast was dreadful. Potatoes were days old and dry and the meat wasn’t generous at all. Would recommend to go elsewhere for a good feed.

Great pub. We are blown away with how nice the bouncer on the door was; we had some drinks left over from spending the day in the Heath and he was fine with us bringing them in and putting it behind the bar. After thanking him, he mentioned the importance of respecting people and was generally so polite. Lovely bloke and great staff. Highly recommend

This used to be my fav place for burger over years. However seems the chef has changed recently, I was very disappointed with the burger we had, meat is still good but thicker than before, bacon is not crispy anymore and you need pay some efforts to find it in your burger and no salad anymore. Had no clue about Dijonnaise in the burger, am really disappointed. Drinks are still good, if you come for drinks you will be happy.

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the treatment my family and I received during our visit to The Stag, Belsize Park on Saturday, 11 May. As loyal patrons who have frequented your establishment for the past 20 years, we have always enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere and excellent service that The Stag is known for. However, our most recent visit was unfortunately marred by the behaviour of both the manager and a member of the floor staff. We were dismayed to find that we were not treated with the courtesy and respect we have come to expect. Despite our long-standing patronage, the staff were dismissive and unaccommodating, which was surprising and deeply disappointing. When we attempted to address our concerns and asked for the names of the individuals involved, our request was refused, further exacerbating the situation. As regular customers who have always appreciated the quality of service at The Stag, we found this experience to be highly uncharacteristic and troubling. We trust that this matter will be taken seriously, and we hope for a prompt and appropriate resolution. We remain hopeful that our next visit to The Stag will reflect the positive experiences we have had in the past. Please do let us know how this issue will be addressed, as we are keen to continue our long-term patronage under more positive circumstances. Thank you for your attention to this matter. A good pub for drinks with friends.

Went for the standup comedy evening so only options were fish and chips or burgers. Not a true reflection of what the kitchen can offer. Lovely sitting outside in garden

Very friendly and welcoming place, great for food, a drink and music!! Well worth the visit!

Firstly, I think the food here is excellent and I would highly recommend. The outdoor area is lovely in the sun and drinks/food are quick to arrive if you use the QR codes on the tables. However, the service if you are sitting inside leaves something to be desired. We had to ask behind the bar more than once for someone to take our food order and when we wanted another drink, there was no one in sight (again) and they said they couldn’t take our order behind the bar, and we had to wait for a waiter (??) Staff seemed to be busy organising the straws but couldn’t take a drinks order… I think if they could sort out the service/tables inside, this would’ve easily been a 5 star review.

The chicken wings here and the best in London, the sauce is a mix of hot sauce and blue cheese which is lovely. All the staff are always super friendly as well no matter how busy it gets!

Today I had lunch at this pub and ordered chicken roast. I was with my colleague. We ordered two portions but were brought a whole chicken and quite a few roasted vegetables for an obvious meal for more than two people. I asked why they served me a whole chicken, the waitress told me they only had whole chickens. I asked her why she didn't tell me this in advance, she didn't answer me anything. I told her no problem. My reservation was for 2-4, at 2.35 the same girl came and asked me if we were still eating, and obviously we were still eating because I had food in my mouth, I swallowed my bite, smiled politely and without sarcasm replied as a joke “What do you think” when I pointed to the chubby chicken in front of me. After 5 minutes a woman came and gave me the bill and very meanly told me to pay the bill and get out of the pub and never come back there. She said I was rude to the staff. I paid £70 and we left and trust me we will never set foot there again. They obviously don't know what table service means and that the most important thing is customer service, in this case they crossed the line into mediocrity. It's frustrating and sad how someone just comes along and puts you in a situation where they accuse you of being rude without even asking what happened. But it's sad for those people who do that because I'll find another place next Sunday and they've lost a customer. It is a shame that nowadays they have turned these establishments into places where the staff have no idea of ​​service and managers like this woman have positions of responsibility even in the neighborhood pub. Otherwise, a beer costs £7, fish and chips £20 Shame!

Celebrated my 30th Birthday in the Stag's new private marquee! 10/10. Massive thank you to Natalie and the team for making the evening so special! Hannah in particular was excellent at making sure everyone was having a good time and well cared for with drinks and food. Everyone commented on how great the space, the food and selection of drinks all were. Tables and chairs could be set up however we wanted for sit down meal / standing etc. Atmosphere created by the lighting made it all feel very inviting!

One of the better pubs in the Hampstead area. It’s a perfect place during the summer as it has a large outdoor seating area equipped with heaters and shelter. The food is tasty but some of the side portions were particularly small. Their selection of beer is the main attraction. They are also dog friendly but this is expected if you are in Hampstead. Music was good as well. If you are looking to host a party in Hampstead this venue is the one.

Solid food, nice beer selection, great outdoor space

This place has really fallen off. The wings used to be perhaps the best in London and generous as well. I returned last week to find that they are both more than expensive, half the portion. On top of this, they lacked any buffalo sauce, were dry and overall very disappointing. The burger as well has suffered the same fate. It’s very disappointing to see pubs losing their local charm and to see standards dropping so low.

My partner and I have been coming here for many years... sadly the portion sizes have really changed. What felt like a local now feels quite empty and no wonder... with the extortionate prices.

We used to regularly visit for the ambience and Sunday roast in the rear courtyard and to have the famous wings. The portion is much smaller not even half of what we had before! the price was the same. It is so sad! Unfortunately won’t be our go to any more.

A very nice pub, the food is amazing, the staff are friendly, they have a great selection of draft and cask ales, even Lucky Saint for those looking for kicks without the effect. They are well known for the chicken wings, they are spicy tasty and creamy. Goes well with a side of parmigian truffle fries. They have vegetarian options, are doggy friendly, and family friendly, until a reasonable hour. Most lively over the weekends so book a table online, during the week just pop in for some fun. The beer garden in summer is soooo nice, with many tables and loads of space. I have no complaints, even the sticky toffee pudding is just well disgustingly good. And if for any reason you do feel unwell, hey the Royal Free Hospital is right next door, so win win.

Great local pub with good food.

Ive been a couple of times, the beef Sunday road is very tasty but very stingy, portion wise. Plus there's always a delay getting the gravy. I tried the beef burger the other day and it was very good!

Can’t help to think something has changed recently. We used to regularly visit for the ambience and Sunday roast in the rear courtyard. The stag ale no longer on the menu, roast chicken and vege’s portion seemed much smaller and the price was £7.50 more on the menu than advertised online. Now a strange area built on at the rear which has changed the whole feel to the courtyard and the place was empty? Unfortunately won’t be our go to any more.

Love this Pub but a word to the chefs from a chef ( and I know they perform miracles with massive numbers especially at weekends, respect) please cut back on the vinegar in your buffalo wings , where’s the brown sugar or honey? Way way too sharp , overrides any other flavours. But cooked perfectly otherwise.

Reserved an area for an event at the Stag, staff very attentive and welcoming. Buffet food is lovely, variety in options- vegetarian options too. A good space for gathering.

Sad decline in food quality - used to love the Stag. Good food, friendly staff excellent atmosphere. Recent meals not so good and the chips which used to be a highlight are a fat flabby soggy version of their former selves. Not so keen to go back.

Had a lovely veggie roast here and for once the gravy was amazing which can be rare with a veggie roast. No roast is complete without roast carrots and parsnips which they had and were yummy!

We booked a table online (they don't take bookings over the phone) for Sunday lunch with a special request not to be close to the door. We were bringing elderly family with us who did not want the draught of the door opening and closing all of the time. Our table was confirmed with our special request, however, when we arrived the table was right next to the door. When we explained we had asked for a table not close to the door there was no apology just a shoulder shrug. We do have a choice and left and had lunch somewhere else. A simple apology would have made all the difference, we actually had a lovely lunch elsewhere where the customer service was perfect.

Our last experience was so awful. Definitely won’t be coming back again anytime soon if not for ever. Spent 1 hour with my kids outside in freezing cold weather waiting for the table despite the table booked and we arrived promptly. The ‘only manager’ named Pedro or Petro ( if he said it right) didn’t believe us that we did book in such a short notice on the day and frankly was so rude to us and talked to me like I was a little girl and loud . Very disrespectful. He didn’t even allow me to seek the person whom I’ve booked table with as he said he is ‘the only manager’ to make these bookings. I’ve had 2 year old daughter with me, my 12 year old son and auntie and we all couldn’t believe the treatment we have received. Utter disappointment!!! At that point we could have walk away but to find another place on Saturday lunch with a young kids would be problematic. It was already 2.45pm. After an hour waiting outside, the reserved table which meant to be booked for us and it was empty since we arrived but ‘the only manager’ assumed it was booked for different party despite I repeated my name twice. That table was empty for an hour whilst we was waiting. After 1 hour waiting time, manager Pedro decided to give us table out of his generosity a small round table with stools ( it meant to be for single person max 2 people) ..,and it was 4 of us…🙄 2 kids and 2 adults. Then I’ve had no choice but seek the person I’ve spoke over the phone and booked the table with…and told him that I believe this empty table ( next from us) is meant to be for our party. He asked my name and I told him and he said yes, it was.. at that point I was so furious. My 2 year old toddler couldn’t wait as she was already tired and fell asleep, we didn’t make to the park with kids ad it was late by the time we finished out brunch. The ‘only manager Pedro’ didn’t apologise at first but then after sometime he did and offered to take the drinks off the bill.

Sunday roast was good, great service and feel to the pub.

We had a super Sunday lunch enjoyed by all the family! It is obviously a very popular venue as it was very busy. Booking is essential to guarantee a table, and we had a bit of a wait until it was ready, but the food was worth it. I enjoyed a gorgeous scotch egg with curried mayo starter followed by lamb shank, which was delicious!

A decent pub that is generally friendly and staff nice enough, but why is it so difficult to just pop in for a pint. This place doesn’t know if it’s a restaurant or pub. The bar area is so tight that you can’t just stand at the bar for a beer. All the tables are setup for food too. If they want to be a restaurant just say so. The wings weren’t bead to be fair, but we had to sit outside on a cold day just to be accommodated. As the days wear on this becomes less and less ideal. Beer selection was pretty good, but really expensive. Won’t be hurrying back.

The Stag Good option for Sunday roast ! Great location , perfect after a nice stroll through Hampstead heath . Food 10/10 beef roast - highly recommend . Great choice of beer and IPA . Service can be abit slow but decent option for a winter Sunday Prices 30 per person PS BRING YOUR OWN MINT SAUCE. . They always run out.

Great venue and great garden let down by the extortionate pricing. Two non-alcoholic pints of lager and two 250ml glasses of Merlot came to a hefty £28.90. Glasses were left on the table all night long.

Were accomodating of my dog. Nice starter with the artichoke dip. The burger was unfortunately very bad, the patty was was over cooked, the bun was almost a bit stale and badly toasted as it fell apart around the burger. Very dissappointing since the fries and the starter were nice but the burger was a huge let down. Wouldn't eat here again

Had a fantastic late Sunday lunch here. The staff were incredible - great service and really Accommodating for my little one. The food was delicious and we didn’t feel rushed to give our table back. I hadn’t been to this pub for quite a few years but need to come back more regularly now, it’s worth the hype!

Such a lovely pub. Really enjoyed the happy hour cocktails, and I ordered the pappardelle which is was DELICIOUS. My friends had the vegan burgers and they also said they were great. Our server Grace was also very lovely.

Home away from home!! I've only had great experiences here. There was once when there was a slight issue with one of our tables meals and the staff really stepped up. They replaced the dish and gave it to us for free as well as giving us a free round of drinks🍻

Came here to celebrate my birthday with a group of 30 people. The staff was amazing at organising everything: drinks on a tab, pre-ordered food, and a cake that I brought. Rosie in particular (our waitress) was super friendly and made sure everything was ok at all times! Thank you!

Great selection of drinks. Only tried a bit of the food but what I did have was fantastic. Can get busy particularly on sunny afternoons. If you want to garentee a spot in the beer garden you might want to book ahead for a Friday or Saturday visit.

When I visited the stag, the service was horrible. They told me that no kids was allowed after 6, therefore we waited to attend. I asked them if they do takeaway on the deals, and the waitress told me yes. When we returned the answer was no. I felt really bad for my kids as I promised them burgers as well as not everyone is able to afford the full price. Their communication was poor as well as their attitudes. I’m extremely dissatisfied.

My go to pub in Hampstead. Been regularly coming here for a few summers now and the food standard has remained outstanding throughout. The garden and pergola area is a huge plus and my dog loves it there. Large selection of beers as well, in short whats not to love about this place?

Took them an hour to bring our food out. That was a bit disappointing. I'll chalk that up to a one-off issue. Usually the service is great. Otherwise we had a great time. Cocktails are very good.

Had a lovely Sunday roast in the outdoor area. Food was lovely. Got a large table which could accommodate 10 of us. Only improvement could be the the sitting which was not very comfortable and the very small amount of gravy.

Sat down and told someone would come back for my order in one minute which then followed by being completely ignored by everyone in the garden for 40 minutes for the food order. Went to the bar for drinks about 15 minutes in which was just rude service, they spent all their attention talking to someone else when I was trying to talk to them and say what happened. Every time someone else came in they were treated properly and every-time someone walked by and we tried to get them to serve us we were ignored.

I sat in here for a couple of drinks while I was waiting for a friend to get home so I could stay over. The drinks were great and the atmosphere was nice - especially outside. The 29° heat made it a bit sticky but made the drinks even sweeter. I would have loved to have had some food if I hadn’t already eaten beforehand. The menu looked great!
