For a classic English Sunday lunch. The dishes are very good and there are many beers to choose from. The environment is very quiet and clean. The friendly staff.

Very friendly and nice place, the person serving was lovely and went that extra mile for us. The food was hot and tasty but basic and more warmed up than cooked for us, good price though.

Aussie expats/travellers…….get there for your footy fix. We came to London as the finals for both codes started so was keen to have a few early openers and watch the footy. Done my research and this pub was the place apparently. Well it didn’t disappoint. Julie and her team couldn’t have done enough for us to be settled, hydrated, fed and ready to kick back and watch. The pub vide is way better than those fake sports bars so don’t muck around, just get to the Rising Sun. Thanks for having us Julie (Footscray tragic!). Cheers Jason and Bern, Canberra

Excellent place. The staff is great and always checking you are fine. Highly recommended pub in the middle of everything. Great variety of beers and food.

Guy at the front doesn’t want anyone to come in when there’s 30mins left to close. Maybe it’s because we aren’t from here. Make sure you come with plenty of time on the clock.

A uniquely interesting joint. I often frequent this place with my obscenely attractive friend Prithika and every time we seem to attract the attentions of some Teutonic vagabond after which I make a poorly-timed, clumsy and entirely unreciprocated romantic advance at the aforementioned Prithika. Would throughly recommend.

We were watching the Euro Cup final and there was a great atmosphere, the pub was full. We went in with our daughter and there was no problem, although the owner was somewhat unpleasant and did not even leave us a chair for our daughter because the tables were reserved although when we arrived there was almost no one. Despite everything, we were very comfortable and the food was delicious. We ordered fish and chips, nachos and several different beers to try.

Wonderful staff. They were so sweet to us Americans and very helpful to me as I tried to find the right beers for me. The hummus and sticky pudding were amazing.

Great pub with solid atmosphere

Lovely little pub, it was quiet when we were there. We had two drinks sat in some comfy chairs and watched a bit of the Olympics before heading off to the theatre.

We stopped to have a drink. Possibility of gluten-free beer. Advisable. Good deal.

What a lovely pub. We stopped of (and always do) on the way home from the west end, A lovely pint of Estrella or too make for a perfect pit stop.Staff are attentive without being pushy, Can't say what the food is like but it did look good from what I could see.

Went for a work night out which started here. Good place to grab a few beers after work. Doesn't seem to get as crowded as other places. Staff are friendly and the food was decent

Service was hardly welcoming but neither impolite. Food wasn’t bad but neither great. Prices weren’t cheap but neither expensive given location. Not a bad experience in any way but neither a particularly good one.

Stopped here for an early pint, on a bit of a crawl. quite early, so quite empty but friendly welcome. Good choice of Ales, wines & spirits. Worth a visit and will be back

A nice old pub with some interesting features. It can get quite busy at times but that's what you might expect at such a central location. Decent range of drinks. Standard pub menu.

After mortgaging my house, not only was the food cold, the service was arctic, the only saving grace was a lovely atmosphere from the Wednesday night quiz (which is outsourced)

This has been the venue of choice for an annual get-together of old workmates since 2017. It never fails to deliver in terms of welcome, food (lunch in our case) and comfort. I cannot fault it in any way. It was my go-to pub in 80s when I worked in town and remains so; Julie and her staff enabled us to enjoy a very pleasant occasion yesterday (29 May). The beer? I'm a Guinness man myself, but one of our number is a CAMRA official and another had his first pint of bitter for a very long time; both were delighted.

First time visiting London, great crowd, great staff and all for experiencing my first man city v man united cup final!!

Went here for one drink, my girlfriend’s bag was stolen from her chair. The barman couldn’t care less, we got the impression it’s a regular occurrence, he had every excuse under the “Rising Sun” (sorry, pun had to be done 🤣) not to check the cctv, nice little earner for him if he’s in on the job 👍🏻

Came here with my family yesterday, the food wasn’t great, steak came out sliced up and over cooked even through it was meant to be pink. One meal didn’t come out until the rest of us had nearly finished our meals. Extra charges added for supplements and wasn’t adviced. Really poor service won’t be refunded

I must say, out of all English pubs you could walk into this one was extraordinary when it came to food. What a great menu and preparation. We had two sets of karaage, the halloumi was delicious and the burger felt really meaty and had a rich taste. We are super happy about our choice and also they showed the Champions League. Great staff and reasonable pricing for being “expensive London”. Visit!

Friendly people and a good atmosphere. Supposedly, Karl Marx used to visit this pub "back in the day". I visited a few days ago with a friend and we had a really nice conversation about settler colonialism. Guess Marx's spirit is haunting the place.

Excellent service. Very friendly atmosphere. Great pub. (2022). Yesterday (7/6/23): We were a group of 7 that had expected to be somewhat larger for a work reunion. Manager and staff were unconcerned by our shortage of numbers and focused only on ensuring that we relaxed and enjoyed our event. We were looked after well and much enjoyed the food and the drink. The group plans to reconvene here in May 2024 and, as far as my wife and I are concerned, the Rising Sun is our pub of choice when we're in town so we expect to be visiting several times before the reunion event. Management and staff that care...that's added value in my book; I read responses to some of the reviews on Google and that comes through loud and clear.

Julia and her team including Nathan (?) looked after us well tonight, particularly protecting our possessions from local thieves which I’ve never seen before. Great choice of beer, food was good (although mash serving was much too small), footie on tv, a great place for after work drinks or meeting friends.
