Great pub great breakfast great price...

A great little village pub. We were there when the European championship football was on, with England playing, yet still we had no trouble getting a table for a nice pub meal and a few drinks. We visited on a Wednesday night and will return.

Enjoyed a fab Sunday roast... Highly recommended!

The food was a shambles paid for a mixed grill to be told after no steaks left and paid for a cheese and crackers guess what no crackers and the cheese was laughable i slice of blue and a massive nlock of chedder really poor if u ask me wont be going back again absolutly not even if u paid me !!!!

Food is consistently good, service was quick and at a very fair price. We went on Thursday and it was quiet but definitely recommend

Friendly little community pub. No food served on Mondays, but great drinks and service. We will be back next time we're in the area.

We went to The Stag for lunch with family, on the 3rd Dec. While everyone else, apart from the little neices, had the roast, which they all enjoyed, my Husband and I had pre booked the Christmas Menu. We both enjoyed our starters. He had the Korean Chicken, while I opted for Smoked Salmon with cream cheese. For the main my Husband relished the Lamb Shank. I had the Goats Cheese tart, served a bit collapsed, but that and the chips were nice, but I should have asked for a dressing for the dry salad. For the main he had a cheeseboard and also finished a niece's chocolate cheesecake with ice cream, called a Lumpy Bumpy! The rum and raisin ice cream I ordered wasn't available, it being too early in December, so I was asked to order from the regular menu. I opted for Apple and Blackberry Crumble, with custard, though I didn't find any blackberries. Nice local ales though.

A proper pub, lovely staff, dog friendly great place for a drink and a chat. Haven't eaten there, but have never heard any complaints

Has a Sunday Roast. Was exceptional. Very generous with meat & vegetables. Really good value. Can certainly recommend The Stag.

Went with friends. It was at 5pm so a little early in the day to judge at atmosphere so reason for only 4*. Staff great. Food freshly booked, hot and plenty of it. Dogs allowed. Plus they sell dog treats. I thought it would be little bag of biscuits but it was a 50p bag of fresh meat trimmings in bite size pieces. My dog loved it. Would return and recommend

Great village pub in Stotfold off the beaten track not on a through route so it needs finding. We held our Monday Meet for Stevenage and District Motorcycle Club. The pub laid on a good buffet.

A small place with a large menu. Sunday lunch was a generous plate full of food, and all nicely home cooked. One of the group had a homemade steak and ale pie, with fries, which was lovely. They have some outside seating, and parking is on the road around the place, but a one way street so you may have to go round a couple of times to find a spot.

We came upon the Stag and it was delightful food was amazing, great selection of wines and beers and extremely friendly, highly recommended

A great traditional pub. Didn't know where to go in Stotfold for a meal. This was recommended. We all had a different meal and everyone enjoyed what they had. Great value and no scrimping on the ingredients. Thank you to the staff.

Went today with my husband and son for dinner. Had steak and ale pie, husband had the rib eye steak and son had chicken fillets and chips. Overall food was good, nice atmosphere and friendly owners. Would happily go again

Fantastic service. I went with a group, and although a few things on the menu were not available, the staff quickly and efficiently sorted alternatives. They also have a healthy eating section with many "slimming world" foods, which are also mainly suitable for a diabetic. The staff worked with me to cater to my various dietary requirements. The food was amazing. It is so nice to just order directly from the menu without having to change much. I would definitely recommend a visit.

The pub is not much to look at from the outside, or the inside to be honest. There is parking available at the rear which is needed as there would be limited parking on the estate that it is a part of that would be within walking distance. The interior is old-fashioned, but plenty of space between tables in the dining area. We came as a group of family members aged 6 - 69, and there was appropriate menu items for all of us. For a small venue that only had a handful of other customers when we arrived, we were surprised by the extensive menu. Ranging from pizza and chips to sharing platters, curry, fish, light bites and steak. All at very reasonable prices. All of us had a main meal (one person had a sharing platter to themselves!) and a couple of rounds of drinks and it cost just over £100!!! That is for 7 people! Amazing value, and everyone enjoyed their food, all cooked well although the steak was a little more well done than medium. The chef clearly does a great job as the fish platter, sea bass, steak, pizza, omelette, ham egg and chips and katsu curry all came out in generous portions, nice and hot and very tasty. We cannot believe that this place is not packed out at a lunch time. We were visiting as on holiday but would be here more often if we lived locally.

Amazing service by both bar and kitchen staff. Reserved a table for 9, and all 9 enjoyed and ate all the food served. Prices also very good. Very nice atmosphere and will definitely be going back.

Nice pub to use for celebrations. Little tight for space but staff re-arranged room so our hire items just about fit in the room. 4 stars only for parking being a problem at this venue.

We were very disappointed..as on the board outside , karaoke ,on 29th October..We went early to get a seat...At 8.30 was told it was cancelled..Went to Coach and Horses..great atmosphere ..decorations music...

Had a first class breakfast very reasonably priced. I have also been during the day and had an excellent real pub grub dinner liver & bacon, again competitively priced. Nice clean traditional pub and would imagine not a part of a chain, highly recommend it

It is a great local pub, they have good sports on SKY, regulars and landlords are lovely. Well run, well priced, but can sometimes smell of cooking from the Kitchen in the bar.

Called in for lunch, first impressions were very good, pleasant decor very clean and well maintained, meals were well presented and tasty also good value for money, bar was well stocked with a good choice, it would be my local if I lived in the area!! Will certainly go back.

I went to the stag to meet a friend and have breakfast at his recommendation. First impressions that it's your proper old school pub. Nothing wrong with that at all. Nice anf clean and tidy. No sticky tables here! Ive got to say, wow, what a great recommendation it turned out to be. You won't be disappointed. We both had a cooked breakfast, which is all cooked freshly. We swapped a few things on the menu too. No problem at all. A very tasty treat. Oh, and friendly staff/ owners. What's not to like. I'll be going back!

Came in to the staff all having an attitude and ordered food. After waiting an hour for our food, we were expecting something slightly better than a pizza that looked like a £1.50 Tesco pizza from the freezer section, and mouldy wraps for the chicken fajitas. After receiving our meal, they ignored our table and asked (while smiling at other customers), asking if their food was alright. After showing them the wraps were mouldy with physical green patches, there was no apology, just a ‘I opened a new packet, we will take £5 off your meal’. What an experience…

We're "out of towners" who stumbled on this pub while we waited for a table at nearby restaurant. Staff were very friendly and the lady behind the bar was very helpful. Haven't really got anything nice to say about the locals though who seemed to be astonished by the group of "them lot" that just walked in.

Just a lovely chilled atmosphere. Even though they were COVID aware they discreetly got on with creating a great ambiance. We stayed for a few drinks and felt quite at home we were planning to leave for a meal a bit further away. After leaving a local Indian restaurant it started raining and we then realised we’d left our umbrella at The Stag. We popped in on the way back home and they’d put it aside for us so that was a nice gesture!

I can't fault the service, atmosphere and friendliness of the staff . Jan the Landlady was really helpful providing the food for us recently at our private function. Good food nice pub

Went to this pub for the 1st time ever this evening, I got stood up on a date so called to cancel the table from the car park, the barmaid instantly said come in for a drink and she was so welcoming and really cheered me up and some of the locals were in there too and made me feel relaxed and enjoy my glass of wine... So thankyou! Really put the smile back on my face and I just had to review the venue and especially the lovely barmaid x

Friendly family atmosphere, good food. Quick service, excellent social distancing and procedures in place. Dog friendly, our dogs even got treats.

Our 12 year old described lunch as ‘like nannies’ (not a compliment!) meat was cooked to within an inch of its life, veg was similar to that served in a care home and the roast potatoes were like bullets. Saving grace: the staff were lovely and the service was great. The desserts were amazing and far surpassed the dinner!! Would give it another go as everyone has an off day.

The breakfast looked ok in the pictures on Trip Advisor but in reality it was not. Cold plates. Sausages burnt and tasted nasty. Bacon cold and burnt to a crisp. The whole thing tasted like it had been cooked in old cooking oil including the eggs.Toast not burnt, just cold. Beans ok, tea ok. They did have HP sauce though. Take from this what you will, but if its a tasty fresh full English you are after, there are better places. Score 2/10

Booked Sunday lunch with th6e family after some complimentary reviews of the pubs fairly new owners. The pub was busy with lads and dads watching a sports TV channel in the large and cosy main bar. The spacious dining room at the back leading on to a sunny outdoor area was a little old fashioned but clean and comfortable. The menu offer was typical pub grub with some very affordable home made specials. Sunday Roast at around £8.00 was pretty good, no suprises, fairly standard really, with an OK selection of veg, peas cabbage carrots etc and a Yorkshire Pudding. A nice touch is the child's portion roast dinner at £3.50 Good choice of local beers, nice clean loos and friendly staff.

It was a hot day, perhaps the Landlord was feeling the heat, but it was like visiting your worst nightmare of a pub. No welcome, no smile, just the sense that you were an utter inconvenience to a man resembling something straight out of Frankenstein's laboratory. The smell of stale chip fat in the air was enough to convince us not to eat (we promptly left and went to The Chequers). Beer not good, service non-existent, atmosphere dull, probably only the regulars "get" this place. There are far better and friendlier and cheaper pubs in the town, the Coach & Horses, Chequers, The Crown and the Fox and Duck all tick boxes in their own way. This place is best described as rhyming with Pit Goal.

The landlords nails look like he’s 2 handed the inside of a horses backside. He can’t even be bothered to say hello!

Absolutely no customer service skills from landlord. Just a argumentative man with noConsideration for paying guests. I will never stepFoot in this pub again while he is running it. A real shame he definitely lived up to what I had heard about him. Definitely not a warm welcome as the boards and notices say Stay away nicer welcoming places near by for sure.

On holiday in this part of the UK and staying reasonably close by, thirty minutes drive away, we read the reviews and decided to give it a try. My first concern on arrival was the very extensive menu, insomuchas this indicates an impossible task for any kitchen/cook to serve freshly prepared. The bar and customer areas are perfect and in keeping with what you would expect. Staff were extreemly pleasant and the Ale lovely. My wife chose the 'Sausage and Mash' from the menu and I the 'Lasagne', this being one of my favourites. My wife took the orders upto the bar, returning almost directly to enquire what I wanted with my Lasagne, i.e. Chips, Salad etc. For my part I was happy to have it on its own. However I chose Salad, expecting this to come as a side dish, however the Salad took prime position on the plate along with two big lumps of Garlic Bread, the portion of Lasagne being perched to one side. Salad was what you would typically expect, Garlic bread I originally mistook for fried bread. However I had what I wanted, the Lasagne. Oh dear what a disappointment that was.The top layer was impossible to penetrate like marble, so having lifted that off I tried to eat the inside, the taste, texture and the amount of chewing needed was not enjoyable. Consequently by now my appetite was gone and I admitted defeat. The staff were good and offered me other options but my wife had enjoyed her meal, I did not want to start again and eat alone, so we called it day. Naturally I was not charged for the Lasagne. I have given the Three Star rating as being a fair rating for the two of us overall. My wife was very happy with her meal and would have awarded quite possibly a five star.
