Cod & Waffle in Central Bedfordshire

We went for breakfast and really enjoyed it. Our breakfast cost £14 which included a drink. The hot chocolate was delicious and food was lovely with great variety. Only thing we would say, the breakfast would benefit from some maple syrup/butter for the waffle in particular. The man that served us was lovely. Thank you.

Awful! Two bites into my fish and I had to remove a long hair from my mouth which was embedded deep in the batter - absolutely disgusting! I refused a fresh plate of food and ate nothing. Definitely will never return!

Perfect kids-friendly spot for a treat! Waffle are delicious in all their varieties. Very good service and welcoming atmosphere!

The deal is not as advertised. We went in as a family of four and the kids had what we thought was bogof on the sweet waffles. As I went to pay I questioned why we had been charged full price to which the young waitress said almost laughing that it is only on adult waffles - not mentioned in the advert? Also as a side the size of the adult gf waffle has decreased in size massively and we waited 20 minutes for our order to be taken. As a positive it is nice to have gf options and the food did arrive fairly quickly once we had managed to place an order. Such a shame as it is in a convenient location.

Missing all the sauces but other than that good

Normally the food was very good however this time everything- fish and chips were very oily. I don’t think we’ll be ordering again.

First time we ordered about a year ago it was great. Every time is slightly worse. This time it's awful. V clear we got the scraps from tye bottom of the fryer that have been resting there for an hr after being undercooked. Bin. And expensive!!

Really good food, we had an excellent breakfast. We also loved the drinks menu with lots of new things to try.

Ordered battered sausages, got unbattered sausage. Chips looked ok but oddly dry. Won't order again. Expensive for average.

I ordered and paid for two tarter sauces and received one, everything else was perfect

Not sure why but this time the fish was not great. The batter was good but the fish wasn’t as good quality as previous orders. Has anyone else noted this?

Have ordered for the first time from Cod & Waffle via JustEat, fish and chips was good although the chips were a bit too greasy for our liking (but that’s just a personal preference). However, I had the Vegan Brunch which included avocado and I was given an unripe, half black avocado. I would not have minded if they would have contacted me saying that they ran out/the avocados they have are not ripe yet and offered a substitution, but leaving it as it was did not leave a good impression with me and I’m not sure we will consider this spot for our next takeaway.

Really lovely family environment, great food, will definitely revisit soon. Food fantastic very tasty, above all else felt it was family friendly with children’s toys and children’s facilities for their play which helps a lot when dining out with special needs children

I’ve been meaning to review for a while now. This is such a great restaurant. Great for families and children and they now have a little soft play area. Lovely lights and decor, lots of toys to play with. They have really thought about the little touches like a mobile above the changing mat in the baby change etc. Fantastic food, lovely staff and so reasonably priced. 10/10 from me.

Delivery seemed to go AWOL and the time ticked up and up as the courier seemed to head off in the opposite direction. Food just about warm on arrival but not the usual great quality - greasy crispy chips and dry fish, a bit disappointed this time.

Ordered on just eat, have had a terrible experience. Food arrived quickly but was inedible. Chips were dry and brown/black in colour. The fish we had was also very dry. We threw it all in the bin.The food was obviously old. Called cod & waffle about 10 mins after delivery also sent pictures and complained to just eat and have been refused a refund. Very unhappy

Re used old dry chips and fish was dry not fresh will not be ordering again. Put it in the bin

I’ve been here a few times in the last few months and I have to say m impressed again. I ordered a gluten free takeaway tonight and it was delicious! Really happy with both eating in and takeaway again. Well done!

Kept changing time waited over 2 hours for food the squid was over cooked was very dry do not recommend this restaurant very disappointed as this was a Father’s Day meal !!

It is amazing to find a place that offers good options for coeliac people. Having an owner with a coeliac in the family they understand the pain and the gravitas of allergens. I have been there a couple of times, and because i have other allergies, they could cusomise my meal and replace so that i can get what they offer in the menu. There are savoury and sweet treats, coffee and even breakfast deals. I would only recommend that they extend their breakfast offerings throughout the day, and become open for longer hours.

Great place with very friendly staff. Sadly quite understaffed these days meaning longer wait times which is tricky when you have hungry toddlers wanting their chippies!

I have been a long time user of Cod and Waffle, however had read some poor reviews since the change of ownership. I have to say I’m so glad I gave the new owners a chance. The chips were still delicious! They now offer a range of world soft drinks (grape soda, bubble tea etc), along with the usual. Plus a wider menu with some burgers (lunch) and omelettes (breakfast menu) was also a little soft play set up in the morning which was a bonus. The people were very polite and accommodating. I will be returning.

Gutted that the prawns came without the sweet chilli dip! :(

The chips weren’t up to the usual standard. Usually really good but today they looked and tasted different. Halloumi burger was really nice.

Finding gluten free fish and chips is usually a challenge but this place is a gem! We travel 11 miles to enjoy a monthly treat here. Amazing restaurant, clean and stylish, nice staff and great tasting food. As a coeliac, I always feel confident dining here.

Popped here with the family for something different after receiving recommendations. Good sized portions and lots of options for the kids. It’s good, not greasy, and generally ok. More of a cafe, rather than a restaurant. Not outstanding or amazing.

Disappointed with fish and chips and the banana waffle pudding. Fish batter is as too crispy and waffle for pudding looked cooked to much and brown powder made the pudding below par. Don’t get me wrong I be back to order my food. Next week. The food been excellent so far and last night was I guess a one off.

Very average food (At best), nothing to get excited about. Travelled from another town because of the rating but it’s definitely not a 4.5/5 as advertised.

Fish and chips was absolutely woeful , I've never had chips that bad . I'm extremely disappointed in my local, I've eaten here many many times , this was abysmal , worse then that . Terrible. Will never eat here again, hope you go under , can't cook chips then can't cook fish . Absolutely disgusting

After living in the area for more than 3 years, we finally gave the cod and waffle a visit. It’s nice, spacious and bright inside with windows the whole length of the building. Service was great. We were seated straight away and able to order drinks. Their coffee was very nice. Moving to mains, their food lives up to the hype. They serve authentic tasting fish and chips in here which I didn’t expect. The cod looks freshly battered and tastes the part too. Gorgeous with their homemade tartare sauce. The chips are so morish as well. Same ones you’d get from a chippy. My stack burger however was the star of the show. Had it with some thick cut smoked bacon, burger sauce, pickles and cheese. Very messy but so succulent and flavourful. I was amazed that we have this food on our doorstep. They also have a selection of imported soft drinks and candies from the US/china which is an interesting touch!

Lots of nice food. You can get a fish dish or a waffle dish, both of which are delightful. Oddly, there is no option to have fish and a waffle, which is definitely a missed opportunity. The sundaes are also very good

I can honestly say that I am severely disappointed with the food that is now being served here. New management has definitely changed things and it’s not for the better. Being Coeliac, I use to visit at least once a week as they served a wide range of gluten free food, but the last 2 meals I have had here are well under the standard that I have experienced in the past. The chips are now dry and over cooked, the battered sausages are hard and the portion sizes have shrunk! I ordered a portion of homemade tartar sauce, which use to come in a polystyrene cup, now comes in an extremely small tub which holds roughly a heaped teaspoon of sauce. For £1.60…it’s a disgrace! I will not be returning, they have lost a valued customer

Although it remains a firm favourite, some things are not quite as good as they were. The one poor server was too busy to do everything promptly. Our four main meals did not come out together and mine was not hot.

I ordered gluten free haddock and chips and gluten free chocolate and banana waffle. Fish and chips - fish in GF batter was good but the chips were terrible, like yesterday's chips warmed up. Waffle had no flavour and texture of damp cardboard, supplied with a small pot of what appeared to be spray cream/

Not sure what has happened since new ownership. Used to be a local gem. Menu is much the same but small changes have let it down. Most food is greasy, cheap condiments available, recently a random selection of soft drinks being sold in the middle of the restaurant? Lost it’s charm.

Was a bit long on delivery time but delicious when it arrived

The cod and chips were the usual great standard, but I was a little disappointed with the waffle. It’s the first time I’ve ordered both together and wonder if it was just because of having to leave it while i had the cod and chips. I won’t order the two together again, but will happily have both again… just perhaps on separate orders :)

Delicious fresh food, perfectly cooked. Arrived in good time and food good and hot. Milkshake is heavenly. I recommend!

Very disappointed today. I eat from Cod and Waffle regularly and today's breakfast was awful. Stale old chewy chips (not fresh at all) and the cheesy sauce was split and lumpy.

Owned by a coeliac so pretty much anything on the menu can be gluten free...its a treasure

Order no. MSXV. I ordered 3 large cod and chips this evening, and they were very disappointing. They are usually good and meaty but not this time. They were greasy and mostly batter and not even good batter. The cod had a little meat on them. The grease made me sick all evening.

We arrived on Saturday morning @ 10:30. There was only one server but it was getting busy, 2nd server didn’t start until 11, so there was a little wait. It was well worth it! Both servers were lovely, food was really nicely presented and tasted good! I had the Brunch, poached eggs cooked perfectly. I let the server know I had dairy and wheat intolerance. I never had to say it again. Food came out hot and in good time once order was taken. It’s been 16 years since I’ve had a waffle! I was cheeky and finished mine with some maple syrup. Just so yummy and no stomach ache afterwards. Success!

Fish cake tasteless , chips hard and crunchy couldn’t eat them , cod was nice again chips hard and crunchy

Ordered cod an chips. But they had a strange after taste, metallicy and horrible. They were fresh but seemed like they had been fried in old oil. Also would not recommend curry sauce literally had no flavour and just a greasy glop. I wouldnt order again as it was expensive for fish and chips that had a not so good flavour.

I went in on a Saturday evening at 4:30 ordered cod & chips and waited 25 minutes totally unacceptable. The restaurant was busy, “just eat” drivers were told there orders were not ready, and only 1 person waiting tables until another person came out to help from the kitchen. As much as I like there food I won’t be going back

Large cod was very thick and after cutting in the cod was rolled into middle chips were very oily and no grease-proof paper box. Curry sauce was very small pot and mushy peas were bland. Parking is payable outside as well.

Food was tasty. Curry sauce was not very nice, was more like curry flavoured water..

We went for the bottomless brunch & it was brilliant! Delicious food & excellent service. Will definitely go again.

The food was OK, a bit overdone, but OK.

Friendly place, staff are well spoken, used to rave over it and recommend to friends however now the fish are usually small even though I always ask for large so always get 2! Sometimes the gluten free fish is excellent but other times not half as good and once it was overcooked. Shame as the fish CAN be really good. Need consistency. Update 8/11 - tried to overcharge me and I insisted it didn't add up according to their pricelist but was told this is the price on till, until someone else was called. They muttered between them and then asked for the correct amount. There was no explanation or apology even tho expect it wasnt done on purpose, really felt like I was a 'thing' rather than a loyal customer. Not good.

Really disappointed. We ordered 5 portions of cod and chips for takeaway and all 5 portions of chips were overcooked - probably re-fried - leaving them dark brown, rock hard and dry inside. The fish was fine but the chips were all inedible.

Very friendly staff and extensive menu options. The food was delicious. Would thoroughly recommend a visit. I had the halloumi butty, and it was fantastic. Combining a fish and chip place with waffles for dessert is a stroke of genius.

Whilst the food was excellent the service was rather slow. Seems that they had insufficient staff for today. We have not had this problem before.

Food was not up to my expectation I have had this meal before and had fresh chips and 3 large Cumberland sausages it was very good, today I got warmed up chips and 4 small chipolatas It was horrible not enjoyable at all waist of money

The food was 45 minutes late. I tracked the driver after I got the update saying he has picked it up from the shop and I watched him for the next 40 minutes drive all around Leighton buzzard- when he finally dropped it off the food was cold and gross. I have never been unhappy with a just eat order until now.

Sadly, it’s not as good it used to be. Since the new owners have taken over, we’ve tried on 3 occasions, each time, the gluten free haddock and particularly the batter has been disappointing. I have previously spoken to the team and I was advised they had tried a different supplier. Unfortunately, whilst it’s improved a little, it’s still nothing like the previous batter. The chips have sadly changed too and now rather dry. It’s such a shame as I’ve always loved their fish and chips, however sadly, not the gluten free haven that it once was.

Lovely friendly staff. Had fish and chips which was lovely and huge portions. Unfortunately our pudding waffle had cream on thst had gone off and tasted bad. Exchanged for a new one with no problem. Mot Neen for a whole but was good

Really nice venue. We pre booked for Saturday Lunch but we didn’t need to as the venue had plenty of seats. We ordered cod & fish, battered sausage meal, brisket gravy and rocky road waffle! Overall we had a beautiful meal and the staff were friendly. We would return!

No problem with the quality whatsoever. However, my order was missing half the items. When I called the restaurant I was very tartly told to take it up with Just Eat and made to feel like it was my fault. I also ordered Gravy which was not secured, the lid came off during transit and ended up all over my food. Not happy at all. Will never order again from here

Lovely food with great vegan/dairy-free/gluten-free options. Bright and airy restaurant, wonderful for families and children.

Popped in here a couple of times, food is good, prices are good, always relatively quiet too, sometimes difficult to park though.

Really delicious waffles. Garlic mushroom waffle was my choice. Also serves the most amazing fish and chips too.

Really enjoyed our visit here. My husband found it as we need gluten free for 3/4 of us and it had everything we like on the menus. Main courses were done well and came in good time. Waffles were amazing, although the children’s portion is quite small and they kindly gave my disappointed 9 year old an extra piece. Very nice and attentive waiting staff, clean and welcoming environment. Definitely recommended.

As usual, the food and value were up to normal high standards. The only thing that stopped a 5-star rating was the perfectly pleasant, but slightly lackadaisical and absentminded service. This is still one of our favourite places for a casual lunch out. EDIT. Having returned again, have to say the service needs some work. It should be the job of the waiting staff to be alert for when customers are looking for their attention, rather than having to literally call out so that they don’t just walk away when they have finished serving another table. This won’t stop us visiting but it’s just frustrating that this separates good from great.

Service seems slow and disorganised since ownership changed. Needs work to get standard back up.
