We had a lovely experience at this restaurant. The staff were lovely and accommodating, and we felt at home. The roast was awesome! The meat was great, and there was a great variety of vegetables. The cauliflower cheese was heavenly, but we will need a bowl of it next time. Definitely 10/10. We felt like we had known the owners for years!! Now we have gone for a nap to sleep it off! ❤️🤣 #greatfood #friendlystaff #cozyatmosphere We are going to try the breakfasts the next time we visit! #cantwait

This is a pub and very loosely a restaurant. The pub side is ok but the restaurant is very poorly managed. It’s forever shutting at short notice. And the landlords don’t seem to know what people want. And how to react accordingly.

Popped in for lunch on the off chance with an adult daughter. Lovely cosy dining room, friendly service and a delicious and unusual toastie (mushroom and haloumi). Had we had more time, we would have gone with one of the items from the main menu which were very reasonably priced. For dessert, we shared an amazing After Eight cheesecake which was sensationally soft and fluffy. Lunches and dinners are only available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays but we’re definitely going to become regulars! Highly recommended.

We enjoyed an excellent lunch of "Toasties" along with a side of chips and a couple of pints of wonderful cider. We were made to feel very welcome by the Landlord and very much enjoyed chatting to the Chef about the food they have on offer and about how they might accommodate the dietary needs of folk who might dine with us there in the future. The food is freshly prepared so doesn't appear instantly which was not a problem. When it arrived it was hot and delicious with probably some of the best chips that I have tasted. I really recommend this place. It is a great find.

Fancied a change and like trying new places so decided to give this pub a go. We should have taken our cue from the very unkempt car park, but are always prepared to not necessarily judge on first appearances. Unfortunately we were made to feel like an inconvenience when we went in and received a very unfriendly welcome. Won’t be giving this place a second chance. Thankfully we were cheerily welcomed at the next place we tried.

Have visited "The Stag"twice, once for Sunday Lunch and again for normal lunch on a Saturday. The Sunday Lunch session is popular so booking is advisable. Large helpings (excellent Yorkshires) all cooked fresh from local ingredients. A good selection of veg to suit even the pickier ones in our party. Saturday was much quieter so you could get away without booking. Excellent selection on the menu, plus specials. All food top quality both times. The Baileys cheesecake was amazing! They serve great local beers - we liked "Yer Bard" Not a pub for families with young children as no play area etc. But great food and much quieter/more relaxed atmosphere than pubs catering for families. Lunch is served Thursday to Sunday and about a third cheaper than the local competition. We will definitely be using this pub more often now that we've found it.

We thought we would try the stag as we haven’t been here for years. But was reassured by the fact that Mark does the food. Which may i say was excellent. But unfortunately the same cant be said for the landlord and his mates, which he would rather have been with. He asked us what we would like to drink and bought over menus, very rapidly thought it was a bit rushed. Anyway i said i would like a gin and tonic, his reply we have 38 gins you name it we have it, i asked for orange marmalade gin, oh we don’t have that one, i will have something lemony oh dear we haven’t got anything like that so in the end i just said whatever you have. We had been told by friends that they had been told they couldn’t have.a drink in the eating area and were rudely told to go in the bar. So with this in mind i was surprised to see a group of people over the other side of the eating area just drinking and soon realised that they were the landlords friends who were very noisy and messing about. So if that is a rule no just drinking in the eating area it should apply to everyone, and if he wants his friends in there then he should have said could they keep the noise down as people were trying to eat. Would love to go there and experience Mark and Sharons food again, but have been put off by the landlords behaviour.

We came here for the first time in around 5 years tonight, and are so glad we did. The service was excellent, the food fantastic. Drinks were ordered at the table, and the chap who served us was excellent with my wife’s Gin. Each one was different, and he explained which tonic water he was using for each, as they are important to the taste, apparently. All four of us enjoyed the three courses we had, and will definitely make this more of a regular place to eat. Thank you for a great meal!!

My friends and I had a couple of drinks here whilst our children attended a party in the function room. We were rudely told we’d have to move if they needed our table for people eating as we were only drinking, even though the area we sat in is indicated as being a quiet drinking area. We were there for 2 hours and only one couple occupied a table in the dining area during that time. Not sure if the man behind the bar was just having a bad day but he could’ve put it more politely especially as I get the impression he was the landlord. Will not be going there again. And if they’re not happy with lots of kids running around they shouldn’t host children’s parties!

My husband and I attended the Stag and Pheasant on the recommendation of a fellow companion. We had previously attended for the Sunday lunch and found it very appleasing and when I discovered they were doing food all week round I felt impelled to try. I had the creamy mushroom carbonara and my husband had the pie of the day (Cumberland sausage and onion I believe) the owners made a point of stating how everything was cooked from fresh and thus may be a wait whilst food is prepared however we had ordered and it was on our table in less than 20 minutes! The dining area had a lovely decorum and the staff were especially attentive and efficient. I will definitely be returning and recommending, round of applause for the stag and pheasant.

Being keen canal boaters we often find ourselves moored up at Hillmorton locks where we would usually prepare a meal on board due to the lack of good evening catering within walking distance. Not any more though as after it's takeover, makeover and new kitchen I've no hesitation in saying that The Stag and Pheasant is the place to go. Manager Anthony was a joy to be with and talk to although at times he was a bit run off his feet and if he's as successful as I think he will be, he's going to need some 'front of house' help soon. We booked in for the Sunday lunch and were given a choice of tables and served our drinks very quickly. No starters were offered which on balance is probably a good thing and the main course arrived at table in a reasonable time - and it was great. A choice of 3 meats or a combination and they were very good cuts and tender. Vegetables were superbly prepared and the platter topped by a great home-made Yorkshire. The most impressive feature for me though was that not only was gravy served seperately in a jug, but we had one each! 10/10 for that little touch as nothing spoils a meal more for me than having the chef drench it in gravy as it passes though the kitchen door. While on the subject of the kitchen door, it provided the only 'downer' of the occasion. The door closer seems a bit fierce and each entry and exit had me jumping from my seat until I got used to it. You need to fix that Anthony. Disappointed by no ice-cream on such a hot day but I understood that it wasn't their fault so we plumped for the Eton Mess which was perhaps a little heavy on the cream but light on the forest fruits and meringue but nevertheless OK.

My partner and I had to be at Wolfhampcote church (nearby) for a rehearsal at 1pm last Sunday, so I rang up the Old Olive Bush to ask if they could fit us in for lunch. They wouldn't normally have opened before 12.30, but Linda was determined that we wouldn't be late for our rehearsal, and offered to open up at midday. She also described the steak pie in such alluring terms that we placed an order for it immediately...and it lived up to the billing. Thank you, Linda, for a delicious lunch, and for being so helpful. We hope to come again!
