The Stag in Isle of Wight

I ordered Cajun chicken with jacket potato, peas tomato mushrooms and onion rings. The chicken was a tasteless tiny wrinkled piece of meat, it was so tough I had to saw at it with the knife. I gave up in the end and left most of it. The mushrooms were over cooked and shrivelled up. The jacket potato was ok, and the 3 onion rings were the best bit. I told the waitress when she came to get the plates and she just said, I’ll tell the chef. I paid £18.95 for that which I think is outrageous. I won’t be going there again.

After reading the reviews I was expecting a lovely experience but was disappointed. Venue was nice and staff was very pleasant and welcoming but the food was very poor. I had ham, egg and chips, how can you get it wrong, ham was well and processed, chips where frozen, I was expecting home made, and the eggs where cooked and kept hot so rubbery. My partner had chicken strips, frozen, the dip was like mustard in milk, it certainly wasn't a dip, no depth or coating facility. Chips were frozen and it said homemade colslaw, it was cheap bought stuff, not nice. Such a let down!!

First time we ate here tonight and plan to be visiting alot more over the next 2 weeks hubby had the ribs combo and was delicious the meat fell off the bone I had the salmon salad and was lovely salmon was very big will def be our local over the next 2 weeks

Another fantastic stay! Staff are fantastic - pleasant, polite, accommodating, helpful and very very friendly! Food is really, really nice. Breakfasts are absolutely delicious - top quality sausages / bacon, expertly cooked. Great menu with good choice for dinner - all reasonably priced. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable with super-soft pillows - perfect after a busy day! Walkable in to Newport - 30 minutes - or there's a bust stop about 50m away - buses every 10 minutes or so! We will be back!

Had a lovely meal at The Stag. Lots of choice on the menu. Friendly waiting and bar staff and lovely to have drinks orders taken from the table. Would highly recommend. Lovely bar area and garden outside if you just want drinks too.

Planned a surprise meal with mine and my partners family for his birthday, 26 of us in total. The Stag and the staff did amazing, all meals came out perfect, hot and no issues at all. Everyone said how amazing the food was and how organised and helpful the staff were. We did a pre-order as our party was so big, and everything went smoothly. Beautiful place with great food.
