We booked a late lunch here for after our Beamish Museum visit. Great choice, best GF fish & chips I have ever tasted... delicious thick cut well fired chips. Hubby chose the classic beef burger, which he found totally delicious. The portions were hefty, so we would make sure to arrive with bigger appetites in the future. Highly recommend and reasonably priced, especially considering the portion sizes. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. Most people seemed to be there for afternoon tea, which looked delicious and seemed to be well received from the comments we overheard.

Came into the stables pub on a Saturday night at 9 pm with friends just for a drink to find that the bar area had no seats available but the area next to the bar was set for Sunday lunch and after asking the bar staff we were told that we couldn’t sit here as set for Sunday lunch. We then had to take our expensive drinks outside and sit in the cold as heater lamps not working. Is it such hard work to remove a few knives and forks? Obviously it is.

Whilst staying in Beamish hall we had an evening meal and breakfast in the Stables restaurant. The outside courtyard is stunning with beautiful hanging baskets and pots. The old stable block makes for an interesting setting. The steak was cooked perfectly, very filling. Ice cream dessert sweet and tasty. Breakfast, we arrived at 7.45 and had the pick of the place. By 8.15 the restaurant was packed. Hot breakfast to order, all you want, was served hot and lovely. Only thing I wouldn’t recommend was the sausage, way too peppery. Pastries were delicious and fresh. Staff friendly and do not rush you. Restaurant did get too hot, it could do with some ventilation.

Just wanted to say what an amazing place Beamish Hall and the Stables bar is. Food is lovely, drink selection excellent and staff are friendly and efficient But what sets it apart are the amazing gardens (currently being transformed into an event more beautiful landscape), and the marvellous hanging baskets, barrels and other flower displays(. It must bee heaven. (Pun intended)

What happened to this place?- brewery gone, local ales gone, locally produced menu gone, children's park gone, value for money gone, even the chesterfield sofas have gone! The only thing that's lasted is the decor! This place used to have all the makings of a great gastro pub, no longer.

Very disappointed with lunch time menu. We prefer having a starter and a desert, only starter available was soup. It was a business lunch and we did not have time to go anywhere else so ended up having fish and what appeared to be refried chips yuk. Will not be going back until they change the menu. We had been previously and we were so looking forward to having the pate starter and a desert.

It is not very often I comment on this site but felt I had to on this occasion. I was treated to a Birthday breakfast at the Stables, Beamish and I must say it was absolutely delicious and the setting is fabulous. The Management and waiting staff were fantastic but I must mention one in particular called Justine. A very professional, caring and attentive individual who looked after us so much we now make it a weekly ritual to call in for a coffee and a catch up. Fabulous place with a lovely ambiance and homely feeling.

Excellent breakfast and service in celebration of a recent special birthday. Also frequent visitors for coffee mornings in a relaxing environment set in The Stables area of the magnificent hotel surroundings. Many thanks especially to Justine, with her friendliness & professionalism always makes your visit an enjoyable experience.

We have visited The Stables several times with friends for an evening meal and have usually been quite satisfied. On this occasion I made an unfortunate choice of chicken curry for mains. Although there was plenty of rice, the portion of curry was miserly, perhaps about half of what you would normally expect. Moreover, it was bland, utterly tasteless and any chunks of chicken had been reduced to a porridge-like pulp. I've tasted better curry from budget range supermarket tins. When the waitress came round and asked if everything was OK, I complained about the curry but she simply said nothing and turned away. Perhaps, like many young people, she couldn't handle criticism, or maybe she hadn't been trained to deal with a customer complaint. Either way, it reflected badly on the Stables. I would give zero stars, but because my guests were generally pleased, and in recognition of previous experiences, I've given two stars.

We went here the other day and I ordered the vegatarian nutroast. When it came the gravy looked thick and brown, so not sure what that was, but I suspect it was made with beef stock. My nut roast was just stuffing and nuts. I stupidly presumed the stuffing was vegatarian until I found myself chewing a piece of PORK. When the waitress came to take our plates away we told her and she said she would see the chef and 'See if there IS anything we can do!" Whatever that meant. We waited and waited and no-one came to see us and apologise. In the end we felt like we had to pay the bill and leave. Shocking!

My husband and I had an evening meal at the Stables whilst staying in Beamish Hall Hotel and we had heard good reviews about the restaurant from others who had been there. We were not disappointed, we both ordered the fish and chips and it was lovely and fresh, proper homemade chips, hot, well cooked and huge portion. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the surroundings and staff were welcoming and gave good customer service, overall a very enjoyable experience and we'll be sure visit again.

We had a lovely meal after attending the Christmas fayre but I'm afraid the service we received was absolutely shocking. We arrived early and our table wasn't ready which we knew it wouldn't be but we said we'd have a drink in the bar and the staff member said she'd let us know when we could be seated. At 5 minutes past our reservation time we went and asked and were seated immediately. We waited 10 minutes and people who came in after us were having their orders taken so we had to ask to have ours taken. Our food arrived promptly but had to go twice to the bar to ask for drinks which arrived half way through the meal as there appeared to be only one member of staff to serve and do drinks for the restaurant. A man who appeared to be a manager took our plates and asked if we would like to see the dessert menu which we did. We waited and waited and had to again ask for the menu. There appeared to be an abundance of staff with very little organisation as the restaurant was half empty (we ate at 4pm) The food was delicious and the portion sizes huge especially the apple crumble! OMG! We are not complainers but feel that the complete lack of service badly let down what was an otherwise excellent meal.

We have been to terror in the trees every year and last night we thought the entrance with food and drinks was a good idea and the actors walking around there were amazing. Unfortunately that’s were it stopped the rest was extremely poor not a scratch on the past 2 years there was less actors the path was lit up and previous years we just had head torches. We went in a group of 4 and all of us said we were board. Complete waste of money and will 100% be trying a different venue next year.

Called for lunch with a friend and sat in the bar area looking onto the court yard which was very pleasant.

This is one of the best looking pubs I have been in ,the grounds it is set in are gorgeous,the meals are really good and not expensive worth a visit,also it is a hotel so handy if you want to stay overnight.

I had lunch here with a group of colleagues during an activity day at Beamish Wild. The food I had was tasty, well prepared, well proportioned and hot but it wasn't what was pre-ordered. My only negative is the fact that we pre-ordered our food about a month prior to the event (all items from the normal menu) but had to make alternative choices just before being seated. My guess is that 7 people from our group had to change one of their courses due to their original selection not being available

Local beer for the wedding of a local boy. Great location for special occasions with a really nice “beer garden”.

Service was excellent food very good.the wife and i really enjoyed our time here will definitely go back.

Friendly, professional staff with a warm greeting. Great ambience and always clean. We visited for an evening dinner and both enjoyed the fact it was burger night. Can also recommend the lemon panna cotta.

I have eaten here many times for business lunches and all the food I have ate here has always been excellent.

Had a lovely experience at the stables for my partners 22nd birthday.

We have visited the stables several times this year on a weekend afternoon to sit and enjoy a couple of drinks. It is absolutely perfect for that and we thoroughly enjoy it. We have also dined there twice this year and were disappointed both times with the quality as we expected much better when the prices are at the level charged. The food was okay but should have been so good it knocked our socks off at that price. You can expect to pay a little more for such a nice setting but not that much. Very nice place overall though.

Booked for a family meal on Sunday, some of the food was served cold, very poor portions. Would not book again for Sunday lunch

Food and service were excellent, lots of choice, reasonable prices and delicious, one little gripe the cheese board was poor, crackers (all16 of them) were dry, no butter and two cheese choices, felt and looked as though it had all just been thrown on the plate.

Food was good service very good we enjoyed it immensely.Try the fish & chips very filling.lovely place to eat & have a drink in the bar after your meal recommended.

This is a wonderful restaurant. The staff were prompt and courteous. The meals were all so delicious and had so much variety. We will be back.

While staying at the hotel, we went for a pre-dinner drink in the Stables Brewery, unfortunately the micro-brewery was offline for refurbishment but the restaurant was fully open and there was plenty to choose from in the well stocked and reasonably priced bar, the Mrs particularly like the large gin menu and I liked the hand-pulled ales. Again, the staff were fully engaged from the moment we entered. We had dinner in the restaurant and the service was fantastic, we must have been visited by five members of staff and all had a genuine interest in our enjoyment and took the time to talk to us, not just take our order, everyone was also very knowledgeable about the menu and the wines. I have a bread, olive and oil starter, followed by - quite possibly - the best mixed grill I've ever had, with everything cooked to perfection, it was also of a size that meant I didn't need a pudding. The Mrs had a steak and ale pie which was also good, followed by a creme brulee, which I was told - I certainly wasn't getting a taste - was superb. This was all accompanied by a really nice Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon. All in all, a fantastic evening, which we both thoroughly enjoyed and all for a very reasonable price. This restaurant review also forms part of my overall review of the hotel and restaurant.

We had been wanting to call here for some time and today we were not disappointed. The bar and restaurant are really good. The staff were friendly no efficient. Food was good and reasonably priced. We will definitely be back.

I went with a friend for a catch up and lunch. We both had the chicken in garlic and mushroom sauce...the sauce was delicious, however the actual chicken breast was quite tough and certainly not the best. Fortunately the lovely staff and relaxed atmosphere made our afternoon a pleasure. Will definitely return but won't be having chicken again

Had meal here as we were staying at the hotel there . The restaurant is very nice and relaxed . The food we had was very good and quite a good choice of dishes on the menu . We dined there for 2 nights . The first night was slightly better with the service we received from the staff . Paul was really nice and looked after us well . The second night was a little hit and miss with the staff , although it didn’t spoil our evening . But on the whole a nice experience dining there .

We went to the stables for lunch we chose the pork loin everything was nice and hot the staff were friendly and polite for desert we had the meringue pie which was lovely

Love this place, great place for dinner or just to call in for a quick drink or snack. Amazing setting with friendly helpful staff. Brew own beer too which keeps husband happy. Lovely place to sit outside on a summer Evening. Love it.

Food served in the bar and restaurant merge into one so there being no tables left in the restaurant wasn't a problem. It seemed to be very busy with locals as well as residents of the adjoining Beamish Hall Hotel when we were there on a mid week night.

I paid and ordered sandwiches and drinks at the bar. Food came 30 minutes later. My son's friend decided he wanted milkshakes too so I asked them to order and pay at the bar...30 minutes later no milkshakes served so I went to follow it up, they said they'll check in their kitchen. 15 minutes later I got up again to follow up. No apologies, they said there was a mixed up with our order! Their manager came over and asked what was going on...expressed an apology and gave me a refund but no apologies from the two staff who actually served us.

Met with family for a lovely Lunch. The stables are stunning and the food was exceptional. Great playground outside and a lovely garden centre.

The soup was especially delicious. And everything enjoyable with large portions, happy to recommend if you are in the area. We understand there is music at times in the pleasant outdoor area

We were staying at Beamish Hall as a surprise for my brother and sister in laws 45th Anniversary.

The Sunday started well with an order of drinks for our party, we were shown to our table and after a short while our orders were taken. After approximately 15 minutes those having starters were severed then when the starters were finished we waited for over 20 minutes for the table to be cleared and a another 10 minutes for our main courses to arrive by this time some people had waited nearly an hour for any food. After this slow start things improved there was plenty of food on the table and we progressed to sweets and coffee before leaving

We have visited before in midweek. We had made a booking and arrived early so we had a drink in the bar area. we were shown to our table which was in the stables area inside. I had the fish and chips. The fish was massive and delicious. My wife had steak and mushroom pie which she said was good. One of our group had the pork sizziler and though it was a little tasteless. My daughter and partner had a Beama blocker for desert.

Perfect setting, lovely courtyard to enjoy the sunshine and beautiful inside too when it turned cooler.

When we were staying at Beamish Hall we were really delighted to discover that The Stables is an unpretentious, very high quality eatery - super food, excellent value, and a nice range of seating options inside or out. PS When we took the photo of our pudding we had already eaten half of it

This was my second visit and I must say it was even better second time around! The staff were polite, friendly and helpful. The restaurant situated in the converted stables is absolutely lovely and has a cozy, intimate ambiance. The food was exceptional from the presentation to the last delicious morsel. I could not fault the deserts, well I can in so far as the sticky toffee pudding is beyond delicious I had to eat it all and would happily return many times for that alone! The only negative was the lack of vegetarian options on the menu, the butternut squash, beetroot and goats cheese burger was delicious but more choice would have been welcomed. Overall a fabulous evening at The Stables which I can highly recommend.

Been to the Stables many times in the passed and always had good service and a lovely meal.... but what a let down this time!.. 11 of us booked to take our mother out for her 90th birthday, the place was not full at all so cant understand what happened this time? after we all sat and ordered our drinks we placed our orders soon after and this was the start of it all going down hill. we had to wait round 45 minutes for the starters to arrive, they were very nice but we had to wait almost an hour after the plates had been cleaned away before the mains came out, i had a stake but was not supplied with a stake knife as no one else was!... i didnt want to make a fuss as did not want to upset people at our table, food was ok but not as nice as in the passed, after the main meal plates were taking away we had to wait yet ANOTHER hour before the desserts turned up, we were all getting very fed up by this time, staff didnt seem to care at all,,,,, the other problem was taking my father in his wheelchair to the disabled toilets to find we had to wait because one of the staff was in using them (not on) all in all not a good day think it will be a long time before we come back...... as i say what a shame as weve had many meal here this year!... you need to nip this in the bud The Stables or you will lose a lot of return customers like ourselves, and weve spent quite abit of money here this year up to now but no more!

Went for a family meal sat outside went for the early special. Food was ordered at bar after giving the table number like many restaurants a good idea. Food came the starters and main together so after rushing eating the starter main was a bit cold asked why they do this the answer as it gets busy and did not want a mix up with food order. Never been served both main and starter together especially when they have a table number all a bit of a rush what a pity. A shame a nice place but eating was a bit of a rush. If they are unable to serve separately they should not serve food outside.

We has family visiting from U.S. We recommended the Stables., we have had some very nice meals there. It was beautiful evening so we sat outside until time for our booked meal for 6.

Decided to visit 6th July for lunch celebrating our wedding anniversary having got married at Beamish Hall 6 years ago.

I have never had a bad Sunday lunch here good portions and quality meat and veggies you can go large if you wish, but there’s plenty on the normal one . I’ll be back 😁

Very nice place to take the family on a nice day. Nice courtyard setting, beautiful buildings and a great, well maintained park for the kids to play. The food was nice and service matched.

As we were staying at the hotel we wanted to eat here. Nicely converted from the stables, hence the name, this has both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is varied, the food very good and the staff very friendly. A great place to eat.

Very poor food overall, chicken wings starter sent back to kitchen, we were told that the chief checked and he was sure the chicken was fully cooked, we informed manager that we would like to remove the starters from our order. The mains come and found food very cold and not really very good. The member of staff that served us is really the only good thing about the visit.

Booked a table for a Father’s Day treat, but were sadly very disappointed.

As it was a nice afternoon, we decided to sit in the courtyard and have a drink. The outdoor are is very pretty, a sun trap and relaxing. There were a few people with dogs, as it was very 'dog friendly' (plenty of dog bowls, full of water dotted about) I think a lot of people had been on the woodland walk, with their dogs and had stopped off for a refreshing drink or a bite to eat.

A fantastic family meal at Beamish Stables, and a perfect pint of bitter. The food was gorgeous, and the portions perfect. Our waiter, Paul was marvellous and his service was fantastic. Beamish Hall Bitter which is brewed in the same room is a fantastic pint.

As it was close we called in for dinner. Unfortunately our experience was underwhelming. The staff were doing their best and working hard, but their inexperience and lack of good management was obvious. The food itself was disappointing and the restaurant area was neglected and tawdry. Cigarette ends on the floor and a loud bore holding forth at the bar - not the image Beamish Hall should have. Shame.

My husband and I enjoyed the atmosphere. We had the Chicken Gratin and Mediterranean Salad. Our waitress suggested the salad and told me about halloumi cheese. I had never heard of the cheese before. It was delicious and often large salads were not on the menu. My husband thought the chicken was average.

After a little walk through the woods that run along the side of Beamish Hall we decided to pop into The Stables Brewery for sunday lunch. With no expectations as I hadnt heard of the venue before we stumbled upon it on a family day out. The childrens lunches were a good quality burger and chips that were demolished. While myself and partner ordered the sunday lunch option. I hope the quality is not a one off because we intend to return one evening for food because it was so good. I would go as far to say it was the best sunday pub lunch I have ever eaten, and there has been a few. Along with the lovely food and excellent service is an idyllic setting which is also family friendly. We will be back ☺

Wrote a review about this place a few weeks ago for it to be deleted.so here we go again. My partner an I often walk down to the stables more so in the summer and have always enjoyed our experience but the last two visits have put us off, 24 Minutes to get served at the bar even though it was quiet, cigarette ends and rubbish littering the courtyard. Staff bringing food out returned 9 minutes later with cutlery, coffee no sugar or spoons and to top it toilets with no toilet roll. Management stood chatting about make up at the host stand while people waited to be served Not the stables we used to love

After a disappointing visit to Beamish Museum we were in need of food and refreshment. This is the place. Staff very helpful great surroundings good food and drink at reasonable prices. Children's play area at the back with beer garden. We will give the museum a miss next time and head straight for the stables.

The better half and myself called in one evening the fish and chips were very good. Fish was huge. Food we found was great, service a bit slow though to be fair it was very busy. We have been back again in a quieter time and service was still slow. This won't put me off going back again though.

Had a good meal here as usual. Service was good, although 2nd round of drinks were a bit slow. Tasty, varied cheeseboard and amazing Beamerbocker desert.

I often eat at the stables & the food here is fantastic, the staff are always very polite& friendly & the service is really good, , I go with friends or my husband but this is a great day out for families as they have an outdoor adventure area & a garden centre, there’s a lovely outside seating area if the weather is fine, and onsite parking

We visited the adventure trail and popped to the stables for lunch. The prices for kids menu were the same as any chain restaurant around £5 but the quality was so much better. The prices are good value especially considering the quality, I had the lamb/gravy baguette which was so lovely tender and filling and my partner had fish and chips which was a lovely portion. Beautiful surroundings, plenty outdoor seating. Free parking.

Oh dear! Some 8-10 years ago this used to be our favourite eating place. There were a range of beers on sale from the micro brewery and the chef was superb. However management and the chef seemed to change and after two disappointing meals in the last two years we gave the place a miss. Until today, when we went back to see if things had improved. Sadly not. My partner's fish came to the table in an interesting shade of burnt sienna although it was still fairly moist on the inside. My scampi arrived - 12 pieces and nicely cooked, but the chips were a mixture - many of them were hard and inedible. And mushy peas? Really - with scampi? To add to my partner's disappointment there was only one ale on tap from the micro brewery- apparently the brewer has left. As this pub's prices are above the average I really feel they need to up their game somewhat.

The stables restaurant food & Service was excellent. Beer Battered Cod and chips.... I have never seen Cod that big before !! We stayed at the hall which was also excellent

As a local walked the dog there for a pint and a bite to eat. Took 24 minutes to get served at the bar while the staff Chatted. Only 2 staff behind the bar while 3 had a ten minute conversation at the host stand. Beautiful courtyard littered with cigarette ends rubbish and empty beer glasses. Love to visit the stables but the last two visits very disappointing

I have been a regular of The Stables for many years now and can honestly say i have never had a bad meal here. The service in recent months however has declined significantly.

we loved the food my husband picked the fish and chips it was so big the fish was hanging of the plate i had burger which was excellent and thwe chips were yummy service was great and dids not have to wait long on our food.

We have been a number of times and enjoy the good inside or out. The staff are friendly. There is a garden centre just over from the stables and they have some if their ornaments on show outside the stables. It is a nice day out as once you have eaten and drank it is a lovely place to walk around.

Cold food vegetables raw .poor service .16 ladies had pre booked 1 week in advance and chef still couldn't deliver .never again .

me and my girlfriend took her mother and father for lunch, it was very nice we have been here quite a few times in the passed, food was lush service was very good, you dont have to wait long for your food to arrive, only down side was since last visit my girlfriends father is now in a wheelchair, i had to take him to the toilet a couple of times to find we had to wait each time as full able body people use this, as you have to go upstairs for the toilets!.... people are so lazy these days, management need to address this as its just not right!!!.... apart from this we had a nice time, thank you the Stables.

This is a beautifully and sympathetically restored stables by Beamish Hall.

Just returned from an overnight stay at the Beamish hall hotel and had a fantastic three course meal at the Stables beamish as part of my dinner bed and breakfast package. The food was tasty, with generous portions. The restaurant was well spaced out and extremely clean. All food was well presented and reasonably priced, with staff being very courteous. I came here with my wife youngest son and his girlfriend and we all enjoyed a quiet evening and will be returning in the near future.

We went on a Saturday nigh but unfortunately three out of the four main courses we ordered were cold. after pointing this out to the staff they were taken away and brought back four minutes later. Clearly they'd been in the microwave were now hot on the surface because underneath. The quality of the food was average to say the least. The temperature in the restaurant was really cold we all had put our outdoor coats on while we were eating our food. When I pointed out to the waitress that we were all cold. She said, "Yes, I know, it's always: here when they don't have the fire on"!!

Good menu selection and great value. Food was excellent and well presented. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, helped by staff who were attentive, polite and friendly with a special mention to Pauline who made our visit most enjoyable.

Been to the Stables before, always a lovely pub, no qualms there. Went for Sunday dinner because the pictures of their dinner on facebook looked lovely - meat cooked pink which is how I like it, nice veg, well presented. Sadly, the real deal did not meet expectations. First of all, I had to sent my initial serving back as the beef was way over cooked to the point that the edges had wizened up and dried. Second, the serving of veg was a bit haphazard - everything just shoved in a square dish. I had an obscene amount of parsnips and not a lot else - was quite looking forward to some nice greens. Luckily my wife's serving offered a little more choice.

Disappointed, definitely been a decline in standards. Chaotic service and mediocre food. Our vegetarian friends said they enjoyed their meals but commented that they were a bit bland. We had a cheese board instead of desert and it would have been good to know the origins of the cheese (hope they’d be locally produced.)

Booked into hotel as a given as a gift for anniversary looking forward to a nice meal in the stables and a few of their great beers. first the room was good the staff were good the menu choice was good the food availability wad poor as several dishes off the menu at 7.00pm on a Saturday! But to make it even worse they had NONE of their onsite brewed beers available - choice was the normal gassy lager or cider from a polybag - barman said the brewer had left! Hindsight should have opted for one of their mini kegs and retired to the room and had a few! and kissed the old bride goodnight!!!

Just had lunch in the stables. Really nice looking place but immediately on entering it seemed chaotic. The queue at the bar was large and staff were running around with plates over and back seeming lost. All appeared a bit disorganised. We ordered drinks and went to find a seat which wasn’t hard as the place wasn’t even busy.

We ate here after the family completed Beamish Wild High ropes course. What a beautiful cafe/restaurant. We had the hot sandwiches which were all stunning. The Kaleslaw was devine and the chips were simply the best! The staff were so friendly and helpful we will definitely return. Good play area outside for the children too which is always a bonus!

My partners family and I visited the stables for Sunday lunch. The atmosphere was great, the starter, main and dessert were delicious! I’d definitely have the sticky toffee pudding again. I can’t wait to try more food from the menu!

The food here is fantastic, been quite a few times even tho it’s quite a journey from home. It has the advantage of a micro brewery so the real ale is great.

We have recently had superb evening meal At The Stables I could not fault the roast beef dinner best I have ever had.My husband has the burger was delicious.

Great restaurant and bar. Stayed overnight at Beamish Hall. Food and drink great would recommend and definitely go again.

We have visited a few times recently for a drink, it’s been a while since we ate here. Opted for a meal here as opposed to in the hotel where we were staying overnight.

Great meal and very reasonable! The kids portions are fantastic value! I'll definitely be visiting again.

Had a 3-course meal here as part of a Beamish Hall package. We were genuinely surprised by the quality of the food and service. It was quite busy for midweek in early Feb, which was promising, we thought. The food was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, the booze was decent and reasonably priced (nice local ale from the micro brewery), and the service was really friendly and prompt without that sense of being rushed. Recommended.
