The steak pie was very good. The cobbled courtyard may be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. There was a draught everytime the door opened. There were quite a few customers with dogs, so if you are allergic to or dislike dogs then this might put you off.

Anthony and his team were marvellous. I would suggest that they label the vegan/veggie food. The non meat sausage rolls did not go down well with the meat eaters. That meant I took home the proper ones and enjoyed them. Lovely day.

Thoroughly satisfied. Food was excellent and service was exceptional. One of our party had a fall and the staff were very caring and helpful especially the young female assistant. Wish I'd made a note of her name. She was so helpful. Thank you.

Absolutely outstanding food and service. I had booked a room for a large group after a funeral at Mortonhall, and I don’t think I could have chosen a better venue. The staff were incredibly polite and helpful and everything just went off with ease. I’m genuinely so very grateful to the staff for being so lovely. Really appreciated it.

Place was freezing; coffee was not hot and hot ones had to be requested; scones were tiny and the butter was absolutely frozen solid. Service was poor as were the staff. Won't be rushing back any time soon

Converted stables with indoor & outdoor seating. Food is standard pub fare - fish & chips, steak pie, burgers. A few families, dogs & couples were there when we visited. Friendly service from the bar & waiting staff.

Bar is lovely. Service was slow and inattentive. Had to chase to order drinks then these arrived and empty glasses just left. Had to chase to order dessert and chase the bill. Bar could have bade more money Hair found in burger - yuck. Roast nice but recognise it was the end of the timeline but meat overcooked. Rest tasty. Manager excellent and removed the offending burger from the bill. Disappointing as wanted to support local business

All aspects of our visit were first class .Great food and excellent service

Family visiting for the weekend were keen to revisit as we used to go to The Stables with our parents. Although busy the atmosphere and service were relaxing. The roast dinners were very tasty and my husband enjoyed his vegetarian haggis dish.

Unfortunately the staff were very stoney faced and not that helpful when we asked for a tea spoon for a coffee we were told “they are all in the wash we don’t have any” not ideal is it, the food portions were small for the price and the couple we were sat next to had to send their soup back as it was really cold the staff didn’t seem apologetic about any of that and was another 20 minutes before they got the soup back. Overall not a great experience

Lovely pub, only had drinks as we didn't want a meal, they had real ale on including a dark one. Its great if your using the campsite

We were not happy with the girl that greeted us as we entered the restaurant. The issue was resolved quickly and handled very well by another member of staff.

We were staying at the campsite and decided to try the food at the restaurant. It was amazing, good variety of food choices and all dishes were delicious. Service was excellent and restaurant itself was extremely clean and well decorated.

Very beautiful place with irresistible wood fires. I didn't take advantage of the cuisine option, but the variety of drinks is excellent.

Food was great, as usual, but the service was much poorer than expected. We took visitors here for the first time and they weren’t impressed. Staff stood around chatting, forgetting some of our order; bringing incorrect food items, and never cleared any glasses from our table despite there being around 6 or 7 staff available. It was quite cold also and we had to ask a staff member to close the door as she walked back and forth past it after it was left open. Atmosphere isn’t as good as it used to be due to the strange alteration at the back of the room where the carpet has been lifted and there is a large gap in the floor space.

Food and atmosphere of Stable Bar was great as always, cosy place to be as dark nights drawer in. Although we did have a problem in either a drink had been spilt or there was some kind of leak on the seat next to me where I had put my coat/scarf/bag, which were literally soaked when I picked them up. Coat and scarf unwearable as they were so wet and my bag is now not useable since drying out as covered in water marks and all contents have had to be thrown away. Thankfully my phone wasn't in the bag as it would have been completely broken and water logged. Management/bar staff didn't do or offer anything, it was abit of a shrug of the shoulders, which was hugely disappointing

Always good. Staff are lovely and helped us out with our two Jack Russells who tbh are a pain in the butt with other dogs. Food is delicious.

The quality of my beef burger could have been better but the chips were fab. Was a massive portion so make sure you're hungry! My friends liked their steak pie - clean plates all round but wanted some more mash. Staff were nice but could have been paying more attention. Good value for money though. The place looks lots better after the refurbishment, especially the updated bathrooms, but it lacks a cosy feel which is a pity.

When Meadowhead took over this bar several years ago, the service and food went rapidly downhill. Glad to see it has improved, although will never be as good as when it was independently owned. Young staff need a bit of training , it wasn't busy but we were left staring at our empty plates for quite a while before they cleared them away.

Food on both occasions was very good, however the service was utterly abysmal, a confused couldn’t care attitude along with people simply standing around chatting with no direction. Very long waits for attention meaning staff were called over three times, no knowledge of dishes on the menu and longer waits whilst basic questions about the dishes were clarified.

Food is always good but this time all of it was excellent. One star off service as one of the dishes was not what was ordered, but this was rectified quickly.

Booked to go for a Sunday Roast before 5pm. Ordered Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding. It came minus the Yorkshire Pudding! No communication that they had run out of them and nobody asked if I still wanted a Sunday Roast. I would have chosen something else. Beef was chewy and all veg was frozen veg. Very disappointing but the most annoying thing was the Waitress who brought it, couldn’t have cared less. I am a local and I just think this could be a whole lot better..food and service. It’s put me off going!

The food was really delicious and there were some good options to choose from. The service was also very good and the waiters were friendly and helpful.

We had a table booked for 7.30 It was later than we wanted. As they were very busy we took it. We went earlier hopefully to get taken. We managed to get a table thanks to the staff. Had a good meal and service was great. Especially when they had staff off sick. We would go back again, good pub grub

Kids food terrible and expensive. Overcharged in the bill corrected by waitress at table. There seems to be little control over standard and delivery quality. Monopoly over a very big captive audience.

The Stables restaurant was lovely, very good service, staff were very attentive and efficient. My only complaint was my wife ordered a King Prawn & Chorizo linguine which we sent back as it had been I er reduced and the cream had split. It wasn't a subjective opinion about taste it just wasn't made properly and we still received it on our bill. I thought to charge us for a meal that wasn't eaten because it wasn't made properly was very poor. Other than that the rest of the food was very good and I know mistakes can happen but the customer should not have to foot the bill for kitchen mistakes.

Enjoyable meal as always. Haggis neeps and tatties not the biggest portion compared to the other meals ordered (steak pie and scampi). All were very tasty. The haggis appeared to have more sauce than haggis.

We had a great meal and were impressed with the staffs service . Also the great night continued with the entertainment that was provided as Ben Darling sang and played a great selection of songs that had everyone joining in. What a great night in a great venue.

Fantastic time at The Stables Bar. We booked a table of 8 for a special birthday, everything was perfect. Staff so friendly and accommodating. Food outstanding as usual. Dogs allowed and car park has plenty spaces.

Had an evening meal and breakfast the next morning with my family, couldn't fault a single thing, lovely.

After a visit to Edinburgh for a cold, freshly tapped local beer, I don't need to say anything more.

Arrived at at 5 min past 7 in the evening to have a pint and a burger. The manager informed me that the kitchen was closed since quarter to 7 and no food was available.... (QUARTER TO 7?????!!!!!????!!!!). ABSURD Even considering that is a pub and on Tuesday they have planned a quiz night.... Asked for a pint of IPA and was told that there wasn't any gas on the line so opted for the second option... Which was finished too... So... Five minutes past seven, on a Tuesday quiz night with no food and nae beer... ARE WE SERIOUS....????? Won't come back in a loooooong time.... Really disappointed! I have never received any response from you! Is totally a scam asking to contact you directly and not receiving any feedback! Unbelievable!

Nice cosy bar had the haggis and it was lovely followed by red velvet cake, dogs were welcome and the toilets were clean. It has a cobbled front but you can drive your car around to do a drop off at the door, so here is an update we visited the stable bar yesterday had the haggis dish it was spot on I also noticed that dogs also can have their own menu just ask at the bar there were a couple of furry friends inside too which is really nice that people can take there furry family in too. They staff were very friendly with great service.

Lovely place to visit, one of my favourites.! Great food, staff are welcoming & very attentive. Accommodated a pram and two children in high chairs no problem. Thanks, we'll be back soon. Oh and love the renovations, spacious but still keeps some character.

Ate at the Stables restaurant while camping at Mortonhall. Staff were lovely and very helpful in juggling a booking time. Food was so good we returned the following night.

My partner and I have been coming here for years and enjoy the atmosphere and usually the drinks selection. We have been finding that there are fewer ale/draught options recently and that we are ending up having the same ale each visit, and that gets a bit uninspiring if having multiple pints. We would love for there to be more of a variety again as it does make us visit less often. The place is looking great since the refurb though, which is a big positive. Thanks

Arrived at restaurant ignored by the Three staff on duty for at least 5 minutes eventually taken to our reserved table took at least 10 minutes for waitress to ask what we wanted to drink! Then took our food order when she delivered the drinks. The place was really busy and it looked as though the staff had either had a falling out or maybe it was just too busy for them. The food was cooked to order and was absolutely lovely! Maybe a wee reminder on customer service for front of house staff!!

Staff inexperienced and more training required. Didn’t feel like there was anyone in charge. The waitress forgot to place our order with the kitchen. To be fair she did apologise but it wasn’t busy so can only assume that her mind was else where. The most activity was the staff blethering and eating their own meals. I’m sure once someone takes control this will be a great place.

My wife booked a table with you for Friday 28 June at 1830hrs for a group of 6. The food was very good - hang on to your chef, but the service was the worst I have encountered for some time in a restaurant. The staff were clearly poorly or not at all trained. We ordered drinks and the waiter arrived with a bottle of wine and one glass for the 3 people who were drinking wine. He returned with 2 flutes, one of which was dirty. We had to ask to place our food order. When the food came there was no cutlery or napkins on the table. One of our party went to the bar to collect those after a second request failed to produce any. We ordered another 3 beers and again one of our party had to go to the bar to collect the beer that had been poured. We moved outside to the courtyard for coffee and mentioned to a member of staff that we were moving and wished to order coffee. No one came to take our order. We went inside to order. 4 of 6 coffees duly arrived and the staff member then proceeded to speak to his friends at an adjacent table, ignoring the fact we were still waiting for 2 coffees. The chef eventually brought out the 2 coffees. We asked for the bill and again had to go inside to get it ourselves. The restaurant only had one seating for meals that night as no one else came into the restaurant. There were 3 or 4 staff front of house which was ample for the number of patrons that night. The staff were poorly trained and had no initiative and when the manager(or person in charge) was offered some constructive criticism at the end he was very defensive and claimed it was very busy which it was not. We are all local and have eaten there in the past but could not recommend to anyone with that level of service.

Decor is awful - feels like a half finished pit stop. Disappointing. I'd probably visit again but only because it's within walking distance.

Had a lovely early Sunday Lunch - the roast beef was delicious with a generous thick cut portion, along with all the trimmings. Great value in a lovely location.

There is such a nice welcoming atmosphere that includes the fact that the place is such a great pub that always has a place for our dogs! No complaints about the food either. Staff very friendly and always helpful.

We had a table booked for a surprise birthday. It took over an hour to get our food. When staff were asked about this we were just told its busy. It wasn't overly busy and surely if you take a booking for 10 people surely you ensure you have enough chefs to accommodate.. It was booked a month in advance. The Balmoral chicken was dry and very chew by the time it arrived.

Great food, but the service was not good. The waiter kept coming to our table, but the ordered drinks never arrived. We had already partially finished our food before it finally arrived on the table, without any apologies! Then the television came on loudly above our heads, which bothered us. Then we just left.

Very young, unmotivated staff. A pity.

Excellent venue! Brilliant outside space. Strange food service times and booking system. Overall excellent pub. Dog friendly! Sometimes shuts super early (last orders at 10!?) midweek despite being busy.

We had a lovely meal and took our Bernese mountain dog with us. We had a perfect table right at the back. Normally everyone wants to pet the dog and we can't even eat sometimes. Service was great as was the food. We've been a few times when we have stayed at the mortonhall campsite. Never disappoints. This was the first time that we have been asked if we have any good allergies. We don't have any but it was great to be asked.

We came for coffee and puppychino for dogs after walkies. Place was fully booked,but we got a wee table next to the bar. Dogs loved their puppychinos. They also have dog menu,so great place with doggos 🙂🐕

Nice restaurant with good service and excellent food. When we showed up at 7pm on a Thursday evening, all the tables were either occupied or reserved. So please be sure to reserve in advance! We finally found a place and were very impressed with the service and especially the food. See pictures. The prices were also very cheap. Burger with curly fries £12.95. Scampi on Chorizo ​​Linguine £12.95.

This is the second time we have we have had steak pie dinner service was slow vegetables cold gravy like water not good I spoke to 1 of the servers only to be told there is a few chefs in kitchen I replied bistro not sure if we will be back as before refurbishment steak pie was very good

Your new extended area is very nice, but a bit of an echo chamber - my elderly father found it difficult to hear. Food was great though.

Well were do I start ? My mother is 90 and in a wheelchair trying to push her over the cobbles was impossible… why can’t you put a wheelchair access from car park to the entrance Now for the food I got a burger and chips the burgers were from the freezer and still cold the frozen chips the same OMG even the waitress made a comment about the food The service wasn’t any better I had to ask for a menu after sitting waiting for 5 mins I for one won’t be back and I will certainly not recommend it to anyone I hope you take this on board Ps. The only mistake I made is … I was stupid enough to pay for it .. Mike

We booked a table but was delayed as buses from city centre were in a jam after the Edinburgh marathon. The staff were very accommodating and held our table for as long as we needed.

Very disappointing May 2024 • Family Terrible service waited 40mins for a drink order to be taken then about another 15 mins to actually get it. Also asked what type of lager we wanted they said what they had we picked tenants then they came back and said so no tenants left. The starters were lovely but the mains were not great at all. The Balmoral chicken was well overcooked very chewy. The fish and chips, hard chips and not much fish inside a lot of hard batter. The steak pie was good.at the time however the person who has this will I’ll all night with very upset stomach. Very disappointed with this visit. Would not recommend at all.

This is a fantastic venue, visted today for the first time, service was friendly and quick, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was superb, and everything was cooked to perfection with great portion sizes.

Shocking service from 2 bar/waiting staff at 2.10pm today, 12 May. I arrived with my friend for lunch booking at 2pm and was checked in on computer by a lovely server (later found out her name is Helen) who gave us menus & asked we order at bar, please, as seated outside. I duly went to the bar to order 10 mins later and as soon as I said, "table 8 outside, can I order some food, pls?" was told by female behind bar (dark hair, black/white dress), "No, no, kitchen is closed". I said I'd just been given menus and told to order at bar, to which male (tall, dark wavy hair) chipped in, "no food orders for walk ins, kitchen closed". I replied I had a booking, it had been checked already. To which the male again said, "no food for walk ins". I again stated I had a booking, it has been checked in on computer "I'll just check that again" said the male. Could not believe my ears at the rudeness of these 2! A queue forming now, I was mortified! I was finally "allowed" by these 2 to place an order, with no word of apology from either of them, and then told by them to collect my own cutlery on my way back to table - whilst doing so, I saw Helen passing and told her of my experience. Like me, she was aghast, apologising profusely. A few mins later, another server (Jacqueline?) came to our table and also apologised, offering my friend & I a free drink for the inconvenience. This gesture was appreciated but having dined here many times before, I won't be back - not paying hard earned cash for the male & female staff member to treat me with disdain & total disregard.

What a lovely time we had at the Stabke Bar. So pleased it is dog friendly. Lovely food and atmosphere.

Newly refurbished and very family and dog friendly. Simplified menu and great quality meals and prices.

We were a large party of 19, service was good, food was served hot and everyone had a great time.
