We managed to catch the early dinner special and what a deal it was! 2 amazing courses for £25. I had a lovely steak and my husband the beef cheeks - delicious! We also had our wee one with us, nearly 2 year old who was starting to get very hangry and they put together a special meal for him which he happily ate up most of, and all the servers were very welcoming and accommodating for him even though you wouldn’t describe it as a ‘family restaurant’ it didn’t feel like an imposition to have him there. Definitely will come back if we’re lucky enough to visit Edinburgh again!

Beautiful place, well furnished and very clean. The raw materials are of quality and the dishes are expertly prepared. The wine is also of quality. The staff is fantastic; professional, helpful and never intrusive. Not knowing how to speak English we felt a bit uncomfortable and awkward but the waiter spoke to us in Italian and we felt at ease. The quality-price ratio is excellent. Highly recommended🍀

I discovered the famous "haggis". The taste was incredible. It's been a long time since I've eaten a dish with such explosions of flavor. My wife had the soup which was excellent. And to top it all off, the pudding with its crème caramel was to die for. The staff is very pleasant and professional. The place is magnificent. In short, I recommend it without hesitation.

This restaurant is a very calm place in a very busy street. So this was very welcome. I had the special of the day which was panfried seabass with spinach, poached egg, scallop, hassleback potatoes. And I asked if there was any dairy in the dish since I'm allergic to dairy. The lady immediately went to ask the kitchen. She told me the spinach was originally cooked with cream. But for me the chef would make it without the cream. Which was so nice of them to do. Because usually I don't want to make a fuss and would just say to leave it off. But it was no issue to make the spinach without cream which I appreciate so much. The dish in itself, wauw. So good!! The seabass was nice and crispy but light, everything had so much flavor! The staff was so nice too! This restaurant is a really wonderful escape from the loud world outside. Highly recommend going there.

The service was really nice. The food was good and nice, but it was too little on the plate and we thought the price was too high for what we got. The fishstew was lovely, but there was a small piece of fish, 4 mussles and half a potato for 26 pounds each. It was good we didn't have a big appetite.

The Cullen Skink soup was the best I have had, better than that served at Edinburgh's best known fish restaurant. The pea and asparagus risotto to follow seemed a little bland by comparison but I really wasn't hungry enough by then. Husband enjoyed his haggis balls with neeps/tatties. His chicken leg was a bit sparse so he filled up with my risotto. Downside was lack of comfort - our chairs were hard and the place was chilly, ate with my coat on. Service was good and the staff friendly.

A real insider tip. Very cozy restaurant with Scottish cuisine. Particularly noteworthy was the extremely friendly and professional service, especially from Elisabeth. The food comes quickly, is very tasty and plentiful. A little more expensive but it's worth it and above all there are always special offers. We were very satisfied and will definitely come back.

I had the muscles which were very nice in size ( medium to large in size of the cooked muscle). The sauce was a lightly flavored sauce of garlic,butter and some other ingredients..not over powering but very nice and subtle. I also had the Rabbit which was fantastic, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I also had the mash potatoes which is just plain potatoes so I did need to add butter and salt for my liking:)

If you’re ever in Edinburgh, make sure you stop by this gem of a restaurant - It’s been my go-to for years and it never disappoints. I always plan my day trips to Edinburgh around it and make a point to bring friends along, and without fail, everyone loves it. Hi everyone, we were guests of the Maison blu restaurant in Edinburgh... I recommend the restaurant 100%, believe me the food is really good... and what's really absurd is not in line with the prices... in addition to paying little the food is more than excellent... Edinburgh is an expensive city for us Europeans... and the restaurant prices are in line with our prices... Ignazio was really kind from the welcome to the end of our stay... the restaurant is located next to the Harry Potter museum... thanks again for All!

We popped in for dinner on a Saturday night. The service was friendly and perfectly efficient for our first floor table over looking the street (good for people watching). Our starters of Surprise Squid and mussels were excellent, as was my slow cooked OX Cheek. However, my wife's cod, whilst deliciously fresh was accompanied by a tasteless risotto type dish. The puddings on offer were only those they had "in stock" - either a bad choice ofwords or a bad sign...

We have dined at Maison Bleue for my best friend's wedding dinner. The quality of the food was way above the standard quality you'd experience in Edinburgh. I would recommend this place and would definitely consider it for a special day's dinner. I had calamari as starter, and beuf bourgeoinion (pardon my French) and crème brulé. My respects to the chef and the whole service team as they made us feel home.

Booked a table here on a very busy Saturday evening. Imo it's overpriced. Maybe too upmarket for us. I ordered the ox tongue. It was only just warm enough to eat. Had to scoff it down as the bowl it came in with the mash potatoes was cold. Somewhat disappointing.

Had a reservation here for Christmas Eve dinner. Showed up a few min early and were promptly seated. Drinks were great and food was good too. Local steak and local fish. Only took one star off service because the service is typically European (meaning they leave you alone more than they would in America) which isn't a bad thing, just different.

I went to this restaurante around 2pm and asked if we could get e table for lunch (there were still a lot ones available as we could see). The waitress (a really nice girl) told us that if we want we could wait 15 min to get seated and we said yes. We went outside to walk around to burn time but as straight as we left we decided to go back and wait inside since it was a bit cold. I went to another girl and said that her colleague told us to wait so we wanted to wait outside because of the weather. I received a very agressive answear “my colleague is misinformed, the kitchen is closed” which i said “but it says outside that the kitchen closes as 3pm and it was still 2. And more, we were confirmed a table” as she says “no, the chef needs a break” I just stand looking at her shocked with the way she answeared me. Never coming back.

Atmosphere nice but that's about it. Food was fine, nothing special. You could definitely find tastier and better quality food elsewhere. Steak was a cheap cut, the potatoes unseasoned, and salad out of a bag with no dressing. Our waitress was inattentive, forgetting our bread and cutlery. When we tried to pay she was gone, in the end after 20 minutes+ of waiting and trying to get someone's attention, we paid as we left at the till. It's a small place so not sure why they couldn't see us. Plus a 10% service charge on the bill which we don't feel was justified

A fantastic spot located on one of Edinburgh's most iconic streets! The atmosphere is inviting, and the food is absolutely delicious. The staff are incredibly friendly and always willing to assist with anything you need. One thing to note: the menu displayed outside appears to reflect lunch prices, as the dinner prices were noticeably higher. However, the experience was well worth it, and I highly recommend this place!

Lovely little place, we felt comfortable walking in for something small without having to commit to a meal. The staff were kind and talked us through the menu too. We only had an onion soup but unfortunately it really wasn't to my taste. Perhaps I'm unsure on how it's "supposed" to taste, but the onions weren't caramelised, and tasted more like boiled onions still in the water.

We sat down to eat some haggis. I don't even feel like talking about the food. 4 haggis balls for £12! Terrible experience. They kicked us out of the place which was EMPTY because the dish was to take away. Once on the sidewalk, they sent us away from there too so as not to obstruct the entrance to customers. Too bad there aren't even a shadow of customers. RESPONSE TO THE OWNER And no, there was no misunderstanding. You actually kicked us out of the club and off the sidewalk. Even after I told you, you still sent us away while the kids wanted to get another portion! I'm not the type to leave negative reviews out of malice, and I don't mean to put anyone in trouble. Quite the opposite. But this time I couldn't help it. Also, from the photo, you can see that no one is setting up the tables while my boys are still on the sidewalk! Best wishes to you, too.

Always been a favourite restaurant of mine, and the food didn't disappoint again. Squid followed by Rabbit was delicious. Had the set menu option late afternoon before heading to the airport. Let down a little by some disorganisation at the start of service; no cutlery, served stale bread from lunch service and dirty table and side plates. Food hit the mark 👌 nice to see the standards and quality are still there 10 years on from my first visit.

A chic little place that can pleasantly deceive. Expect classic French as you enter and be a little bamboozled with all the Asian/ Oriental/ spice led "twists and surprises" on classics... not a complaint but didn’t really feel required. It puzzles the mind when relishing what's almost reminiscent of a Chinese takeaway styled calamari in a French restaurant...all in all good food

A great restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh. Menu consists of some home comforts and daily special. The fried salmon snd risotto was their special for that day and my partner opted for what is a beef stew with mash. Both lovely snd comforting food - happily revisit when back in Edinburgh. Wine list wasn’t bad, opted for the picpoul. Bill arrived and funny enough they overlooked adding the drinks onto the bill… but did flag this for them to put it on.

A 5star review quickly turned into a 3 star. We booked here for my birthday and the birthday of my sister. We visited last Saturday and booking was at 9.15pm. We arrived on time and we waited for about 10mins to be seated. That is not an issue at all. When we booked we saw Lamb Tagine and Merguez. I even called and they told me the meat is Halal. My wife is Muslim and Tunisian so to have one of her favorite dishes on the menu was exciting. When we came to order we asked the waitress about the meat if it is Halal, she said Lamb and Chicken Halal but not the beef but she said she will confirm again with the chefs. When she came back she told us that they just changed the butcher and now nothing is Halal. We were quite disappointed as these dishes at least should be Halal due to their origin. But yet again we said no drama let's choose something else. We opted for the Calamari and the fish gumbo. The Calamari are divine and the mains tasty as well. Wine is at a reasonable price and till here service was amazing indeed. The waitress even apologised for the Halal meat situation but we reassured here it's not a problem at all. Unfortunately the night had a very bad twist when the watch was 10.40pm... that's hardly an hour sitting on our table. A new waitress (Red Haired) came to take the desserts order. We explained we needed 10 mins as we just finished our mains. To our astonishment she brought the coffees and desserts straight away, not only, without asking for the bill, she came to get the bill paid. We were rushed to be kicked out as they wanted to close. I mean if you want to close by 11pm don't take bookings at 9.15 or 9.30pm. I work in a restaurant and we never kick people out. Very unprofessional and left disappointed after what had a potential of being a great evening. On another note to the girl in the bar upstairs.... the glass machine can be closed with your hands. No need to kick it with your feet everytime.

Quirky eating place. Quite dark inside. A few more dimmed lamps might be an idea. The food was just ok, for the prices charged. My husband had beef shin which he enjoyed. I had seafood and chicken gumbo, (recommended by the staff), which was quite bland. (More flavour maybe required?) I ordered a portion of parmesan truffle fries, as when looking at the meal I knew I would be hungry later. £6.50 for a portion. For 2 meals and a bottle of wine £95.45. There are eating places nearby with better food and not just as expensive. If the standard was top notch we would have been happier. The staff are lovely. Nice atmosphere. Great location. Just a bit disappointed with our meal.

Delicious! Go early and take advantage of the 2-course specials. We loved the lamb meatball tangine, mussels and especially the sticky toffee pudding. Portions were very generous and the sauces were complex and well balanced. We’d eat here again! One small issue - our original server said we could have either a starter and main OR a main and dessert as part of the 2-course deal. When the bill arrived, we had the lunch pricing but the main and dessert were charged separately. It was only a few pound’s difference and we did not question it, but be sure you clarify with the server if you want the dessert option.

Having visited Merchants around the corner a couple of nights prior, we were expecting a similar stellar experience. Things started off well and we were seated promptly, despite arriving 30 minutes early. We all liked the quirky decor and new/old feel, and service was great (although potentially a little rushed). My 'Surprise Calamari' was very good (not rubbery, as experienced by another reviewer below), but my American friend was not impressed by the French Onion soup. I felt the Venison Chasseur was not as tender as I'd have liked (and the blackberries were a strange inclusion). At £28.50, the prix fixé menu was reasonable value but I wasn't tempted to prolong our meal with dessert, unusually for me. Coffee was subpar, as well.

Amazing food and friendly staff. I tried the rabbit with mash and mustard sauce and was delighted with the taste and quality. The sticky toffee pudding dessert is the best I have ever tasted and I highly recommend it.

I won’t give a one star rating, as the restaurant was open and we were served food. The restaurant has a good reputation according to Tripadvisor, and we were looking forward to spending our last night in Edinburgh here. I had the “Surprise” Calamari for a starter, it was surprisingly awful. I don’t understand how the calamari receives great reviews, is the batter on the calamari supposed to be ‘soggy’ and the squid rubbery? My partner had the mussels, they were nice. The mains….. I had seafood gumbo, it was not good, I can’t describe the texture of the fish (maybe rubber) accompanied by the microwaved blitzed prawns and the one mussel, with no seasoning. My partner had Venison….it was so bad it made her feel ill, I said it can’t possibly be that bad, so I tried a piece. It tasted like an oxo cube followed by a piece of cardboard. At this point we should have complained, however, we’re not complainers and always try to enjoy our meals out, so we opted for the cowards way out and paid the bill and left, leaving behind our £35 bottle of wine. Service was good, although the manager on his laptop in the middle of the restaurant doesn’t give the best of impressions. I can only think this was a ‘bad’ night for the cooks, as we always look on the bright side when it comes to restaurant food, and generally give good/excellent reviews, and reading other reviews it must surely have been a one off (hopefully).

Quel comble pour des français de manger dans un restaurant français à Édimbourg. Malgré tout, ce fut un réel plaisir de passer la première soirée de nos vacances en Écosse dans ce restaurant : service de qualité, staff attentif, carte élaborée, plats succulents, etc.

Really disappointing. Starter of french onion soup was watery and bland, oeufs cocottes had uncooked egg white and bland creamy sauce, main course fish didn't have crispy skin and chicken leg was tiny and sinewy. Real shame as I remember it being good but won't be back.

With a 25% off food we could not resist another visit to one of our favourite French restaurants in the heart of Edinburgh. It has a homely, quirky atmosphere. We chose the two course menu. Starters were delicious. I had the aubergine tower and hubby had the oof cocotte - leek fondue. For main I had Tagine of lamb boulettes and hubby had steak. I don’t often eat meat but these meatballs in a lightly spiced bean sauce was amazing. Definitely recommend. In fact hubby wishes he had chosen that instead of steak! Service was excellent. Anna was brilliant. Knew when to chat and when to leave us. She’s multi lingual and can speak Spanish fluently with some German. All in all a very nice afternoon leaving us with nice memories

ORDER THE SCALLOPS. Our servers were amazing and the food was top notch - my friend was insisting we try this "elevated Scottish food" and I was feeling more like getting pub food, but I'm really glad we went here. I also had the haggis-stuffed chicken and a sticky toffee pudding, and thoroughly enjoyed every single bite of the experience.

Had a fantastic lunch at Chez Jules! I went for the steak and French onion soup from their lunch menu, and both were absolutely delicious – full of flavour and beautifully prepared. I was also pleasantly surprised with a wee snack on the house before my meal arrived, which was such a lovely touch. The staff were warm, friendly, and welcoming throughout. A wonderful experience all around – I’ll definitely be back!

Un muy buen bistec Bavette y patatas fritas regado con un agradable tinto de la casa. El menú en el sitio Opentable está muy desactualizado y el menú en línea de Caf Tartine no está actualizado. Lo único que no me gusta es un cargo por servicio automático agregado a la factura, mientras que prefiero dar una propina de acuerdo con mi satisfacción general.
