Chez Jules has an amazing atmosphere – it's the kind of place where you can just relax and have a good time. The food's great too, especially the seafood and steak. They have a good wine selection for a really reasonable price. The only downside is that it's nearly impossible to get a table without a reservation.

Our waiter was great, helped us pick a great wine to compliment our meal. The additional sides which accompany the main meal are a lovely touch. I had the macaroni as a main- it was the best macaroni I’ve ever had. The lighting is also very aesthetically pleasing if that’s your thing!

Booked over a week in advance and arrived to find it was closed. No attempt at contacting me in advance.

Incredible French restaurant! We went for the lunch 3 course menu which was £13 for 3 courses! The vibes are very homey here and the food is delicious, especially the steak. It’s always packed here, so I recommend you book in advance !

Had been a few times over the last year, but found out recently the owners really don't treat the Wait staff with any respect. There are plenty of great Restaurants in Edinburgh so while the food maybe good I can't continue to support a business that can't look after the very people who provide their customer service.

It was a very delicious restaurant. Lunch recommended: £12.5 Onion soup, mussels, steak, and panna cotta were delicious. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and we had an enjoyable meal.

Unfortunately there seems to be some issues with racism amongst your staff and you might need to do some house clearing or at the very least some EDI training.

It’s really overcrowded and overwhelming experience! The place is so cramped and super loud! I had steak which is inedible and really raw!!! Came here from Tiktok’s recommendation but really disappointed!

I have to start by saying that we love Chez Jules Edinburgh, it is one of our go to restaurants and we have enjoyed fabulous evenings there with friends. The food and service are amazing and on this visit neither of these disappointed. I had booked a table for my husband’s birthday and although there were plenty of tables available we were given one in the dingiest, dankest corner of the restaurant. I expect when I book a table weeks in advance that I am allocated a good table, not the worst one in the restaurant! We moved to a slightly better positioned table but still in firing line line of the kitchen and unfortunately due to all the comings and goings of the staff a free standing specials blackboard fell against my husband’s back causing him some pain. There was an apology of sorts and the board was leant back up against the wall for it to fall on the next unsuspecting customer. It was not our best experience at this eatery and was a disappointing end to my husband’s birthday. We will definitely be back because we love the place but maybe not for a little while.

When you are running a business, the number one rule is to make the customers feel welcomed! I was silent when I went in and felt the racism as a multi cultural woman but thought maybe it’s in my head cuz I’ve never felt the racism in Edinburgh, but hearing that it’s been going on for ages and you being racist towards black people? Shame on you and Horrible!

Such a fun place. The lunch menu is insane value for money. Service very quick too.

Once we got seated and had our orders taken, the starters came out and were ok but it took an hour afterwards for our main course to come out despite the table of six next to us who got there after us, receiving their food before us. Once we got our main course the food was ok but definitely not worth the wait.

A 10/10 experience. The food was amazing. The service was extremely quick - everything we ordered was brought to the table within 5 minutes. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was so calm and welcoming.

Food was alright, we ordered bread, mussels and steak tartar. Mussels were very good value for money, the tartar was okay but could have been fresher. Have tasted better and more fresh steak tartar. The bread also tasted like it was store bought, could’ve mistaken it for Sainsbury’s bakery bread. The atmosphere is pretty loud and tables are close together. However, will say that overall it is good value for the quantity you are given and it is a good spot for a date night.

We came in without a reservation and a table was immediately made available for us. Super hospitable and delicious food! Will definitely come back again

Having sampled many French restaurants in London, It was interesting to compare those to Edinburgh's offering in Chez Jules. I was not dissapointed! Rather I left feeling disappointed by those I frequent in London. You are greeted by a loud, bustling atmosphere, rustic fittings and original art lit by candlelight. The service is speedy, and your treated to an array of complimentary treats to wet your appetite. The menu has everything you could want from a french venue, and everything we ordered was utterly delicious, including the best Moules marinière I have ever had (and I have had many). After all the delicious food, the final treat is the bill, which is incredibly good value for money. We left beyond satisfied and for a good price, and cannot wait to return.

The most characterful and romantic dining experience I’ve ever had, never has a restaurant had so much personality. Food was exceptional and very reasonably priced (you also get free bread, salad, salami, and olives as you sit down!) could not recommend enough

I returned today to this very nice place, where I have always managed to eat because there was usually a line outside but also a fairly quick turnover, so there was never much to wait for. This was mainly the best quality of this place. Today at 1pm I was told that the restaurant was full and I was even denied the possibility of waiting for a table to become free! And it was 1pm, not 3pm in the afternoon. I was very disappointed with this change in policy.

After seeing this place on TikTok and the rave reviews I was so excited to try…however we were certainly let down as soon as we entered the restaurant! Tables are soo close to one another it was next to impossible to have a conversation with my friend who I went with. Food was certainly a major let down…but what I found shocking was the wine ‘plonked’ on the table…£30 for a bottle of a cheap savvy b which was as warm as a cup of tea…asked for soda water to ‘brighten’ it up and they charged us £4.50…for soda water!!! If you’re looking for a nice meal out I’d advise to go elsewhere. Rather pay double and actually have a nice enjoyable moment and not treated like Cattle. Definitely a let down..

Good food for reasonable money, but very high noise level

A wonderful French spot in Edinburgh. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the value for money is excellent. It’s perfect for a casual dinner, with seating that’s simple but fitting, especially considering the affordable prices, much lower than you’d pay for similar quality at other restaurants in Edinburgh. I highly recommend the mussels as a starter and the duck as a main course. Booking in advance is a good idea, as it’s always busy. That said, it can get quite crowded and noisy at times, and we occasionally struggled to hear each other over the noise.

Buzzing atmosphere, very vibrant and delicious food!

The food taste was great and good portion sizes, would be been better if a little warmer. Choice of wine was excellent and all good value. Service was attentive but slow especially for our mains and dessert which we had to chase after waiting over 30/40mins between courses. The row with one of the chefs and the manager added an interesting distraction and maybe an explanation for the delayed service.

Love coming back to chez jules, great for a quick tasty meal. This time tried the coq au vin for two and was delicious and it came with a side of gratin potatoes!

Visited Chez Jules more times that I can count – the most value-for-money, scrumptious steak and seafood meal you can find for sure! My partner and I have been craving their french onion soup ever since we left the UK. The atmosphere is so cozy and perfect for a date or casual night out as well, do visit if you’re in the area x

Be careful here! This is a good restaurant. I was however cheated on my last visit. Offered mulled wine because I was cold. Served in a tea mug. Charged at £10. My food order was £13. Chez Jules is popular as an affordable restaurant. This is unconscionable. The steak frites is good and affordable. The complementary bread is of low quality and heavy. I have also tried the French onion soup which was served too cold with a big crouton of stale bread.

Owner (guy with dark/black hair) was very rude and unwelcoming! Ruined my whole experience staff are terrible food is forgettable and unflavoured. Safe yourself the trip especially as a POC!

We have come here a few times and love it every time! It is always a little bit too cramped but it’s still lovely, our waitress was SUPER sweet despite clearly being rushed off her feet. Unfortunately our charred carrots arrived stone cold but everything else was delicious!! Love coming here and will definitely come back 🥰

This place will reserve your table in accordance with your ethnicity, if you’re black you will be offered a table in 3 weeks vs 2 days if you’re white.

Extensive and exciting menu and very reasonable priced! £25 for a mouthwatering 3 course Festive menu. Excellent value! House wine was lovely. If you don’t like busy, lively restaurants, this place isn’t for you. However, if you enjoy an upbeat ambience then I’d highly recommend you book! I’ll definitely be returning here!!

Food was pretty average and staff were disinterested on a busy Sunday evening. Limited variety on menu unless you wanted meat dishes.

so the manager is super strange. For me, she gives me a weird vibe, like she doesn’t know how to interact with Black people. When I went inside, I asked if there was any reservations, and there wasn’t. However, when I asked her about the next available reservation she told me it was three weeks. So I decided to call to verify the information that she told me in person, when I called and talked to her on the phone, she told me it was in 2 days. I also asked another white British person that left around the same time as me, and he confirmed that she told him the next available reservation was in two days. I really wanted to check it out, but I can’t support a restaurant that has weird behavior towards people of color

Chez Jules does brilliant food. The same cannot be said for the quality of service. Their booking system, despite being a busy restaurant, is entirely paper - which as you can imagine is not at all a good system. It has caused issues with lost reservations before. We waited for at least 15 minutes for our reserved table as Chez Jules was underprepared for the amount of bookings. Once seated and ordered, the usual bread and nibbles were not brought to our table like they had been in the past. We had to ask a staff member who just seemed annoyed to be bothered. There was no checking on the quality of the food, or asking if we wanted more drinks, thank god the food was delicious otherwise I doubt we would have ever got the chance to voice a complaint. The layout of the restaurant is crowded and definitely not accessible, to be able to manoeuvre the tables you would need to have been taking ozempic. As the meal ended we got the bill, despite not all of us being at the table felt pressured to just pay straight away and go. None of the staff were chatty or kind, I cannot emphasise enough that you do not go here for the service. All in all, Chez Jules did not make the night amazing, it was the company I was with made it a lovely dining experience.

This was the best restaurant we visited in Edinburgh. Recommended by a local and did well to get a dinner reservation at short notice. No frills French Bistro, with delicious and high quality food, plus incredibly fair pricing.

Wow just wow. I just came for lunch and the lady at the reception literally screamed at us and even before asking for 2 people she was like absolutely not we’re booked for the lunch NEXT …..

I love Chez Jules! The set lunch menu is incredible value for money and the place is always busy. We opted for french onion soup and moules frites, then a wee blackcurrant sorbet to finish it all off. There are also options for the French classics, like frogs legs by the kilo and a good wine selection. Definitely recommend!

I was recommended this restaurant by a friend when they heard I was visiting family near Edinburgh, when I mentioned it my family had also been recommended it too! The ambience is bustling, the food delicious and very French and also good value. Definitely would recommend to others. You need to book!

Over an hour wait for a steak frites and when it arrived it was stone cold. They replaced it when I complained and the replacement steak arrived miles undercooked with no sauce and no fork to eat it with. My girlfriend enjoyed her chicken but by all accounts this place is overhyped pish. Go somewhere else.

I really wanted to like this place, but it’s a bit chaotic. The salad had a few flies in, which isn’t that much of a big deal, but I did point it out to our waiter so he could pass the feedback onto whoever didn’t bother to wash the lettuce. Another server brought us out some extra bread and butter to apologise for the issue with the salad, which I thought was reasonable. Then £1.50 for the extra bread and butter appeared on our bill anyway. Mains took ages to arrive. A waiter even asked us “did you have your starters already?” a good quarter of an hour after we finished our (pretty tasty) French onion soups. Three stars not one despite poor food hygiene and mid food because it’s really cheap at lunchtime, and the service is authentically French.

Good food and really good price. The bread, salad and meat They take out as you look at the menu are great. They have crammed in as many tables as they can possibly fit so you are basically sharing a table with everyone sitting around you. Will be back but plan to go when it's hopefully a little quieter.

Very mediocre. Restaurant was rammed and simply over capacity meaning very loud and unpleasant. Really poor lighting whereby had to use phone light to read the menu. Food wasn't anything special and the service element was just random. Sorry but won't be back.

You really can’t beat the price! Three course meal and an alcoholic beverage just under £20. The food was delicious and the bread and salad was a nice touch too. Might be hard to get into when it’s busy but considering how full it was food came at a very reasonable pace (quicker than I expected ) 10/10 recommend

been here a few times now. the first time was great, but the food gradually got worse each time we went back, only going back hoping it would be as good as the first time. me and my partner came here during a busy lunch period and expected to wait for a table. to speed things up a bit we agreed to sit outside. it was the worst meal there yet and i unfortunately will not be going back again. the food was STONE COLD as soon as it was sat down on the table, and no not because we were sat outside, cold as soon as we ate it. the steak was also so tough and quite frankly inedible. almost walked away but had the decency to pay even though i shouldn’t have

Chez Jules has been on my 'Want to eat at' list for a long time and I finally got to this weekend, it did not disappoint. It's French food done really well, straight forward and delicious! It's gone right to the top of my 'Eat here again' list!

Definitely book in advance because it can get very busy! Every table gets a salad, bread and butter, rosette de lyon (cured pork sausage that is sliced - like salami), and olives. Super delicious! The lunch menu was affordable and also delicious. I had the French onion soup and steak and frites. Both were delicious. Food came out hot and fast. Steak was cooked well and tender. It is quite loud and extra effort will be needed when having conversations - but it’s not impossible! Also, the space might seem a bit smaller when the restaurant is full so be mindful. Overall wonderful experiences. I can see why this place is so busy most of the time! The food was delicious and affordable, and the service was fast. Highly recommend this place.

Being French we had to be demanding but very pleasant surprise, the service is top notch (maybe even too fast), the starters and main courses were very good. On the other hand, the place is a little noisy but otherwise I recommend it!
