Amazing dinner! I love it here. Such a lovely atmosphere, nice staff, tasty food and it’s so cheap. A must visit.

The food was good but the best thing without a doubt was the service. We were served by a waitress who spoke perfect Spanish (which was very appreciated) and was also gorgeous. Super friendly and attentive. I would marry her tomorrow.

Great casual French dining at an even greater price. You know you're going to get good French food when they're vaguely rude to you over the phone when you try to book a table. Very highly recommended. The creme brulee was a little disappointing, it had the consistency of scrambled eggs (but it did taste good!)

The place is nice, good atmosphere. However, regarding the dishes, the terrine really doesn't taste as good, the steak is good, even if the fries are frozen and in mini doses. In the end, what happens in Edinburgh is the prices, it’s not so “inexpensive”. This is not a must to do.

Day trip to Edinburgh and took a punt on Chez Jules for lunch. Best part of the trip. Loved the atmosphere which was lively and buzzing, food was phenomenal value for money and very good and the staff were friendly, attentive and made lunch such a lovely experience. I don't know how they produce an excellent 3 course meal for the money. For me, it is the go-to place in Edinburgh.

The place has a nice vibe and it seems pretty popular given the queue. However, the waiter was a bit rude by telling me we don’t have spaces without even giving a specific time to when we can come back (unlike what he told others waiting). And when I asked him when can we get a seat, and he said you can come back after more than an hour! And he literally gave the couple behind us a seat immediately. To be fair, we had a buggy but he seemed so unbothered and it was almost like (we don’t want people with babies here).

Although they have to have a nice terrace, we first arrived to get a spot there. It took 10 minutes until someone showed up and they did not even look at our faces. Afterwards, when someone showed up again, we asked if we could change places to an empty table next to us, getting an unnecessarily rude answer.

This was probably the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to. I had booked a table a week in advance to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and everything was ruined. The table was dirty, it was freezing cold inside, and I had to sit in my coat the whole time. We waited 45 minutes for our food, and when it finally arrived, it was absolutely awful. All I wanted was to leave and forget this place ever existed. To make things worse, our table was right next to the bar, and the staff kept banging glasses and throwing cutlery around — we could barely hear each other speak. Would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

Only one vegan option. Took almost 2 hours to get our meals and we were a big group of people. It was lovely inside and the staff were lovely (even though they were rushed off their feet!)

Without a doubt it is a great option to eat, nice and cheap! They give you the choice between three starters and three starters, and depending on whether you choose a one-course, two-course or three-course menu, the price varies, but you won't pay more than 13 pounds! Good option! The food is good! They give you a free starter 'salad' with two slices of sausage and olives, they don't charge for tap water!

Great little bistro restaurant with a wonderful menu and excellent food. The 2/3 course daily specials menu is also great value for money too. Our meal was extremely good! Would highly recommend. Booking should be considered to avoid disappointment…busy busy busy with very good reason. 5*

We booked a table for lunch on 24 February 2025 for our wedding breakfast. We were seated in the corner behind a pillar, presumably for privacy. However, this corner was very cold dispite the aircon blowing hot air. Not helped by the fact that we were near the front door which would be left wide open by people waiting to be seated, hence the low score. The service was very slow but the food was good when it did arrive. This is a very popular restaurant and we hope to return for our first anniversary, requesting to be seated further in the room. We look forward to giving a better review on our return.

There is nothing Scottish about this place. The food, wine and atmosphere is all French. At the same time, there is nothing French about this place. The great service, fun, and approachability here is all Scottish. The food is seriously DEELISH. Don't come here for a working lunch. It's loud and fun, so bring friends and enjoy great wine time together. Sidenote, the mixed olive sampler is free and wonderful. Ask your server to top off the sampler and you're likely to receive a big, free bowl! Yes, it's that sort of place where the fun and food runs deep.

It is recommended to order the 3-course menu, very good value for money. The bread service comes with butter, they also give you a little green salad, a little sausage and some olives to start. Very good attention. The delicious chocolate mouse. To repeat

The stand out, endorphin releasing, Apple wallet sigh of relief-ing, aspect of this restaurant is the amazing lunch 3 course deal they have. With plenty of food being served, consumed with a bottle of red, the evening couldn’t go wrong. Jolly and scrumptious. Alas, If you look closely and cajole your tastebuds into Michelin mode, the greasy French onion soup, non-chocolately chocolate mousse, and stale bread can be a bit of a let down. Nevertheless, the service was good and the atmosphere gives the right impression of a classic French style restaurant that starts with ‘chez’. Definitely recommend for a lunch of laughter, and cheap food. Located in a good area too.

I went to this restaurant with high expectations which were definitely met. The food was in my opinion some of the best I’ve ever had, the price was really good considering that I got their lunch deal, the servers were super friendly and quick. The atmosphere was really cosy and I left the place with my expectations exceeded. Would definitely recommend!!

honestly don’t even bother especially if you’re a person of color. Terrible service and uncomfortable vibes. Just go to Cote Edinburgh down the road their food and service are both WAY better

I’ve never been so appalled by a dining experience as I was at Chez Jules. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by an unbearably cramped environment, with tables so wobbly they could barely support a glass of water, let alone a meal. The staff? Completely uninterested, and service was so slow it felt like they were deliberately trying to ruin the evening. Now, the food - thought it would be the saving grace but was sorely mistaken… My chicken was so overcooked it was practically inedible, dry and tasteless, and drowned in an obscene mess of salt and rosemary, as if someone thought that seasoning could make up for the complete lack of skill in the kitchen. It was a disgrace to French cuisine. Every single aspect of Chez Jules screamed incompetence and indifference. I wouldn’t return if you paid me. Chez Jules? More like Chez Jizz. Avoid it at all costs - this place is a disaster.

I ordered a take away, only thing available is steak + frites, but it was delicious !!! Had a lovely chat with staff while waiting for it (you have to collect it). Highly recommended

A real deal french bistro. You can go for the ridiculously priced bargain set menu. But look further on the menu and you will not be disappointed. Authentic French food served as speed acompanoed by very reasonably priced wine and spirits. We will be back. Service fast, warm and friendly. Thank you.

Really great value, very good food and a vibrant atmosphere. The service was a bit erratic and slow but then the place was packed so it’s to be expected to some extent. Steak-frites was class, as was the French onion soup.

Starter took 20 min which wasn't too bad but the mains came 1 hour afterwards. Chips were cold and portion size small. Did not bother getting dessert with the slow service.

My husband and I have been here probably 20 times and it never disappoints! Expect a fast paced, French dive bar/restaurant vibe with excellent quality food and wonderful service. My favourite restaurant by far so of course highly recommend

Food delicious and very fairly priced, hence packed out midweek in the evening. Service however was slow for our meals and drinks ordered were forgotten which is bad news if the kitchen is playing catch up.

We were really looking forward to dining at Chez Jules in Edinburgh, but our experience was a letdown. We arrived later in the evening, hoping to enjoy a meal, but the staff told us they were fully booked and couldn’t accommodate us. While it’s understandable that restaurants can get busy, a friendlier and more helpful attitude would have made a big difference. We left feeling disappointed, especially since we had been eager to try their menu and might have considered returning another day. Unfortunately, the unfriendly reception has deterred us from doing so.

Booked a table a month prior for Valentine’s Day via email and when we showed up were barely greeted by a manager with a clear attitude problem. No hi, No Bonjour not even a welcome smile, just “How did you book.” Then she sat us right by the pass which was noisy and we could see the chefs taking the bins out through where everyone was dining. We also noticed that this manager treated other customers the same and gave death stares to the other poor waitresses running around like chickens. Her professionality was shocking. Took 20mins to get served and I’m certain they forgot because they took everyone else’s orders who came after us. My partner had to ask one of the other waitresses who said she would find our waitress. We could finally order drinks which took 20 minutes. When we finally did order the chips were cold (from frozen im certain) and steak medium rare but parts were literally raw. Cheap steak, cheap chips. We were ready to be done and asked for the bill to which a waitress was shocked that we did not want to order dessert and said whilst she printed our receipt that she was disappointed we didn’t order dessert. Well we were disappointed at the service and poor quality, who in their right mind would want to stay longer and order a dessert? We chose to dine here as it reminded us of our time in France, what déception.

Our waiter was great, helped us pick a great wine to compliment our meal. The additional sides which accompany the main meal are a lovely touch. I had the macaroni as a main- it was the best macaroni I’ve ever had. The lighting is also very aesthetically pleasing if that’s your thing!

Chez Jules has an amazing atmosphere – it's the kind of place where you can just relax and have a good time. The food's great too, especially the seafood and steak. They have a good wine selection for a really reasonable price. The only downside is that it's nearly impossible to get a table without a reservation.

Had been a few times over the last year, but found out recently the owners really don't treat the Wait staff with any respect. There are plenty of great Restaurants in Edinburgh so while the food maybe good I can't continue to support a business that can't look after the very people who provide their customer service.

It’s really overcrowded and overwhelming experience! The place is so cramped and super loud! I had steak which is inedible and really raw!!! Came here from Tiktok’s recommendation but really disappointed!

Unfortunately there seems to be some issues with racism amongst your staff and you might need to do some house clearing or at the very least some EDI training.

I have to start by saying that we love Chez Jules Edinburgh, it is one of our go to restaurants and we have enjoyed fabulous evenings there with friends. The food and service are amazing and on this visit neither of these disappointed. I had booked a table for my husband’s birthday and although there were plenty of tables available we were given one in the dingiest, dankest corner of the restaurant. I expect when I book a table weeks in advance that I am allocated a good table, not the worst one in the restaurant! We moved to a slightly better positioned table but still in firing line line of the kitchen and unfortunately due to all the comings and goings of the staff a free standing specials blackboard fell against my husband’s back causing him some pain. There was an apology of sorts and the board was leant back up against the wall for it to fall on the next unsuspecting customer. It was not our best experience at this eatery and was a disappointing end to my husband’s birthday. We will definitely be back because we love the place but maybe not for a little while.

When you are running a business, the number one rule is to make the customers feel welcomed! I was silent when I went in and felt the racism as a multi cultural woman but thought maybe it’s in my head cuz I’ve never felt the racism in Edinburgh, but hearing that it’s been going on for ages and you being racist towards black people? Shame on you and Horrible!

Once we got seated and had our orders taken, the starters came out and were ok but it took an hour afterwards for our main course to come out despite the table of six next to us who got there after us, receiving their food before us. Once we got our main course the food was ok but definitely not worth the wait.

A 10/10 experience. The food was amazing. The service was extremely quick - everything we ordered was brought to the table within 5 minutes. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was so calm and welcoming.

Food was alright, we ordered bread, mussels and steak tartar. Mussels were very good value for money, the tartar was okay but could have been fresher. Have tasted better and more fresh steak tartar. The bread also tasted like it was store bought, could’ve mistaken it for Sainsbury’s bakery bread. The atmosphere is pretty loud and tables are close together. However, will say that overall it is good value for the quantity you are given and it is a good spot for a date night.

Having sampled many French restaurants in London, It was interesting to compare those to Edinburgh's offering in Chez Jules. I was not dissapointed! Rather I left feeling disappointed by those I frequent in London. You are greeted by a loud, bustling atmosphere, rustic fittings and original art lit by candlelight. The service is speedy, and your treated to an array of complimentary treats to wet your appetite. The menu has everything you could want from a french venue, and everything we ordered was utterly delicious, including the best Moules marinière I have ever had (and I have had many). After all the delicious food, the final treat is the bill, which is incredibly good value for money. We left beyond satisfied and for a good price, and cannot wait to return.

I returned today to this very nice place, where I have always managed to eat because there was usually a line outside but also a fairly quick turnover, so there was never much to wait for. This was mainly the best quality of this place. Today at 1pm I was told that the restaurant was full and I was even denied the possibility of waiting for a table to become free! And it was 1pm, not 3pm in the afternoon. I was very disappointed with this change in policy.

After seeing this place on TikTok and the rave reviews I was so excited to try…however we were certainly let down as soon as we entered the restaurant! Tables are soo close to one another it was next to impossible to have a conversation with my friend who I went with. Food was certainly a major let down…but what I found shocking was the wine ‘plonked’ on the table…£30 for a bottle of a cheap savvy b which was as warm as a cup of tea…asked for soda water to ‘brighten’ it up and they charged us £4.50…for soda water!!! If you’re looking for a nice meal out I’d advise to go elsewhere. Rather pay double and actually have a nice enjoyable moment and not treated like Cattle. Definitely a let down..

Good food for reasonable money, but very high noise level

A wonderful French spot in Edinburgh. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the value for money is excellent. It’s perfect for a casual dinner, with seating that’s simple but fitting, especially considering the affordable prices, much lower than you’d pay for similar quality at other restaurants in Edinburgh. I highly recommend the mussels as a starter and the duck as a main course. Booking in advance is a good idea, as it’s always busy. That said, it can get quite crowded and noisy at times, and we occasionally struggled to hear each other over the noise.
