How lovely to return to this fine dining establishment within the famous Balmoral Hotel. As ever, a fabulous menu using only top quality ingredients from which the Chef and his team create incredible dishes. Pierre and his talented team will ensure that your experience will necessitate a return visit. Britney serves us today, she was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Really high recommended!

The food was lovely, large portions and very tasty! The service was quick. The staff were so friendly and delightful. I would definitely recommend.

If you're prepared to spend a little more, you can enjoy French-influenced cuisine in a sophisticated atmosphere. Then you will also be served by very courteous, polite staff. There is also a large selection of wines and drinks/cocktails.

Brasserie Prince has just unveiled their new Seasonal Lunch Menu, which will be available until the end of March. This tempting menu is offered from Monday to Friday, with the option of two courses for £35 or three courses for £45. I had the pleasure of indulging in the three-course option, and let me tell you, it was an absolute treat. The menu is quintessentially French, showcasing an array of dishes that are brimming with fresh, vibrant flavours. Each course is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, highlighting the best seasonal ingredients. From the succulent starters to the decadent desserts, every bite transported me straight to a Parisian bistro. The menu is beautifully curated, offering a selection of three starters, three mains, and three desserts. We began our culinary journey with the starters. For a taste of tradition, try the Jambon Persillé, a flavourful Ham Hock Terrine that's a true French classic. Or, dive into the Brandade de Morue, a delightful blend of salt cod and potato that transports you straight to the coastal regions of France. I personally opted for the Velouté du Barry, a creamy and elegant cauliflower soup garnished with herb croutons and crunchy pieces of cauliflower. This velvety soup was a soothing start, with its rich texture and delicate flavours beautifully complemented by the crunchy, aromatic croutons. Each dish on this menu promises a delightful start to what is sure to be an unforgettable meal. Moving on to the main courses, there are a couple of enticing options that promise a delightful dining experience. I opted for the Navarin de Poulet, a hearty dish of braised chicken. This comforting classic features tender chicken slow-cooked with carrots, beans, and potatoes in a rich, savoury cassoulet. Each bite is a harmonious blend of flavours and textures, with the succulent chicken and tender vegetables creating a dish that is both satisfying and delicious. This course, with its robust and homely flavours, is a true testament to the joys of French cuisine. I chose the Crème Brûlée with Madagascan Vanilla. This classic dessert, with its creamy custard base and perfectly caramelized sugar topping, is elevated by the exquisite flavour of Madagascan vanilla. The first crack of the caramelized sugar gives way to the smooth, vanilla-infused custard beneath, creating a symphony of textures and tastes that is simply divine. This elegant dessert is a fitting end to a spectacular meal, leaving a lasting impression with its rich flavours and delicate presentation. For drinks, indulge in the Pear and Spice, a cocktail that balances the sweet, mellow notes of pear with a warming hint of spices, creating a cosy and delightful drink perfect for the season. Or, try the Mulled Wine Sunset, a cocktail that blends the traditional flavours of mulled wine with a creative twist, offering a rich and comforting drink that evokes the essence of winter evenings. Each sip transports you to a world of festive flavours, making it the ideal way to unwind and savour the season. The staff here are truly outstanding. Their service is seamless and polished, with an almost intuitive understanding of exactly when you require their assistance. It's as if they have a sixth sense for anticipating your needs, ensuring a flawless and professional experience from start to finish. Brasserie Prince has truly outdone themselves, offering a dining experience that is both elegant and delightful. If you're a lover of French cuisine or simply appreciate fine dining at wallet friendly prices, this seasonal lunch menu is an absolute must-try.

Service was impeccable after sitting in, but not so great when I was trying to get someone to show me where to wait for a table as the demarcation of the bar and the restaurant was a bit confusing for first-time customers I suppose; something they may be interested to improve considering it is a hotel establishment in general. Food was good and the menu had a very good variety for causal French dinning options.

I was walking past the Brasserie Prince close to my Birthday so I decided on a whim to treat myself. I reserved a table for that evening at the Balmoral Hotel reception. The atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed. The staff were courteous and efficient. I had my favourite french starter, French Onion Soup followed by Loin of Venison with Kale, Mushroom Puree and Sauce Xérès. Both were delicious and well presented. For dessert, I opted for Mont Blanc, an elegantly constructed patisserie stack. Including wine and coffee, this was not one of the cheapest meals I have had but it was one of the best. If you like classic French Cuisine, I thoroughly recommend a visit to Brasserie Prince as a treat.

I was extremely disappointed with the experience. After being allowed through two layers of entry, i.e the concierge asking our requirements then a barman within Prince Brasserie to then be refused service because I wasn't a resident. This inconsistency was frustrating and a waste of time. Should have been asked this from the off!

Soup, main course, sides were excellent. Attentive service was given. Food slightly pricey than other restaurants BUT they are worth it. A MUST try if you are in Edinburg.

It was not our first time at the brasserie. We like this place a lot. But this time we were not really happy. The starters were amazing. But the main course… We had 3 times the rib eye. One medium rare and two medium. No one was like ordered. The two medium were well done. The lamb wasn’t tender at all.

Not cheap but great food and service. We enjoyed our lunch here a lot. Good location and very central too. Recommended.

A beautiful castle with a long history and different from other castles

Great food in a restaurant with an old mansion atmosphere. Having my name day, we chose for the second time to eat excellent oysters, and very good filet. Decent wine list. Special mention to the very kind staff, and personally to Akis who served us so hospitable and friendly.

Very and too spicy food! With a waitress who rolls her eyes when asked for a drink. Just the atmosphere is nice.

Our go-to oasis of tranquility as a relief from the milling crowds in the centre of Edinburgh. Yes, you will have to wait behind a velvet rope across the doorway for admission and yes, you have to be prepared to spend somewhat extra for the experience, but you will be rewarded with attentive, unhurried service in an atmosphere of calm. The muted lighting and soft Pastel furnishings invite you to relax for a while, either propping yourself at the bar, or sinking into their banquettes. Sometimes it's a glass of Champagne, sometimes one of their inspired cocktails (best gin martinis in Edinburgh!), sometimes a long luxurious lunch, but always a memorable experience. We had dinner at the Brasserie Prince which is located inside the Balmoral Hotel. The service is impeccable and all of the staff very professional. Surprisingly, knowing our names from the reservation, they actually addressed us by name throughout the evening. The menu is diverse and we chose to have the smoked salmon trolly which was dished out at our table. The food was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is casual but very enjoyable and a perfect place to have dinner when in Edinburgh. Make sure to make a reservation as they will fill up.

Attentive staff. Great food. Quiet location for a business meeting. The gnocchi was simply lovely, and the monkfish was enjoyed by a colleague.

I stayed at the Balmoral Hotel and enjoyed an amazing breakfast - Scottish salmon, eggs anyway you want them, fresh juice and bread and berries- just amazing. Sooo amazing I came back for lunch and had the Scottish oysters with champagne gel and caviar. And the wonderful Frasier cake. So then lunch was so fantastic I came back for dinner! Had the monk fish and the floating islands which were delicious too! I wish I had more time - I’d work my way thru the entire menu as it all looks so amazing. Highly recommend if you are short on time at least try to have breakfast. If you cannot - then a quick lunch or bite of oysters. The servers are delightful and kind- making any meal more special. Hope to come back soon.

Very disappointing. Balmoral has, over the years been our go-to destination for many special occasions & treats. What on earth is going on now? So many staff, so little good service. If you’re going to attempt the 5 star service like taking our drinks to the table, surely it’s not too much to expect you to remember of the 2 glasses who had the white wine & who had the rose? No offer to fill up our water glasses throughout the meal? Plonking a takeaway coffee on our table whilst we’re relaxing with our own post-lunch coffees? And to top it all the food was unremarkable & overpriced. I have complained directly because I very rarely post bad reviews & have received an apology but afraid it reinforced my impression that something is going wrong at The Balmoral.

My husband and I decided to try a dinner at Brasserie Prince without a reservation on Wednesday because it was close to our hotel and the website showed it had openings for dinner at every time of the evening. However, when we arrived we were turned away at the door by the maitre d' saying they were full in spite of the fact that their website said they had plenty of openings. He said there were a lot of last minute walk-ins. I checked the website again about 30 minutes later which still said they had space at every seating of the evening! Why did he not want us there? I felt that he did not want me, a Black man, in his restaurant. I have not encountered that kind of discrimination in the States for decades and am shocked to find it in Scotland. While I was very angry, I did not want to go back there and insist on being seated. I just wanted to relax and have a good meal elsewhere, which we did. BTW, I am a professional and was neatly dressed. I never write reviews but I thought this had to be reported.

I came in and was left standing in the doorway, behind some closed off ropes. Restaurant was almost empty, so I questioned if the venue was actually closed for lunch. Someone finally came over to greet me and I asked for a table for 1 for some lunch. I was asked in the doorway if I was over 18…? (I’m almost 30…) then was told I’d have to wait while she worked out if she could seat me. Considering it was empty, I couldn’t work out why. She then said she’d have to check if I could be seated because I was wearing shorts…. (I was in a smart dress, blazer and trench coat, as I am visiting Edinburgh for work and had time to kill before my train.) I questioned this and pulled my coat open, showing the host my full outfit… in which she scrambled and said it should be fine… told her to forget it and went to another restaurant. Thank you for such an inhospitable introduction to your venue.

Absolutely fabulous dinner here. We had flown in the same morning and forced ourselves to stay awake to evening time so booked dinner at our hotel as an easy option. After walking all over town, we were excited to eat and go to sleep. We were blown away by the food and our amazing server, Brendan. He was friendly, polite and so professional. From our comfortable booth seat for two, to the lovely decor and our delicious cocktails, everything was off to a wonderful start. Brendan did a great job of making us feel so welcome and walking us through the menu if we had any questions. We loved the traditional trolley salmon app and scallops. The butter that comes with the bread is unreal as it often is when you leave America and head this way. The maitré de was super friendly and had a great sense of humor, chatting with us when he brought our drinks. Our Caesar salad was delicious as was our filet and French fries! I had picked out dessert but by the time we finished we were stuffed. Could eat here again tonight but we are forcing ourselves to leave the hotel. Huge thank you to Brendan and the team for a memorable experience!!!

We ordered ribeye very small portion, correct preparation. And gnocchi with pesto and roquefort. The gnocchi were very sticky, the sauce had burnt garlic and a very dominant excess of parsley, very little cheese, perhaps some grated parmesan could have saved it. They were not rich. The best is the creme brulee. No tablecloth. They even charge for bread. Expensive for what it offers.

Best dining in Europe. Brendon, our waiter, was efficient, knowledgeable, and entertaining. Food was exceptional.

My first time to the brasserie to celebrate my daughter's birthday and also the arrival of her newborn daughter. Service was friendly, attentive but no way overbearing. Food was well presented and very tasty. Three of us had Sunday roast and I went for the Lamb loin. All dishes faultless, a most enjoyable afternoon. Minor comment was that we were initially instructed to leave the buggy and our 2 month old granddaughter outside the dining area. Once reality set in they managed to seat us at a table with sufficient access for the buggy. No big deal.

Edit: Returned again and had a wonderful time again! Exceptional food and service! We had such a brilliant time for a family dinner on Saturday. Everyone’s food was stand out and the service was really professional and friendly. My little sister has a dairy allergy and was completely catered for. Plus the best old fashioned I’ve had in a good while!

We visited Brasserie Prince for lunch and had a real 5 star experience. From the entrance to the Balmoral hotel and the amazing ambience of the restaurant, it really feels special. The food was amazing and really well presented and the service was outstanding, everyone makes you feel like the most important person in the room. Customer service at the very best. Well worth a 450 mile round trip for lunch!

Cocktails were amazing. Service was fabulous - Peter was very friendly and professional. He knew the menu incredibly well and was kind enough to recommend things to do. 5 star service indeed ! Only a 4 star because of the toilets sadly.

Have always valued the Sunday roast but on this occasion it was just OK; meat was not hot enough, gravy seemed to have meat juices in it which is always good but included too much of the fat which affected the taste and it was not as nice. As for the horseradish cream not strong enough, it was more like clotted cream for a scone; and for its price was disappointing. The service, though, was excellent and highly knowledgeable waiter plus the choice of gins and was also excellent. People around us not having the roast were raving positively about the food.

This place didn’t disappoint! We wanted a little extra for Friday night dinner on our trip to Edinburgh. We got a little extra; the place was gorgeous, classic French interior and waiters in white shirts. Staff was very welcoming and attentive, the food was sublime, and a small, but high standard wine selection. Excellent food and very good service with a couple of negative points. We really liked the salmon and the mussels, as well as the endive salad and the fries. The desserts were very good too. 4 stars instead of 5 for only two reasons: - the salmon supposedly came with truffles but there wasn't a hint of truffle taste - a 10% tip was automatically and discreetly added to the bill - I understand it's common here, but the way it was so discreet just really bothered me, especially for us tourists who are not used to this custom

Peter (the bar manager), Ruri the bartender, Victor the bartender, and the other staff were a real treat! The drinks were also amazing and worth the slightly higher price. Would def recommend!!

We had an amazing server with some witt, which entertained us after a long day walking about the city. The complimentary snacks were very tasty, great cocktail options and they are fabulous at checking on you regularly. We felt looked after and are happy to recommend to friends and family

One of my favourite places to eat when in Edinburgh an amazing relaxed atmosphere and top quality service from all the staff working there. I wanted to give a special shout out to Katsia who was looking after us , she was very kind and attentive. A great way to end our trip.

We came here on the end of my Birthday weekend and loved it. We had a train to catch but popped in for a drink and nibbles. It's been a dream of mine to visit The Balmoral and now we are planning to revisit at Christmas. The ambiance and service were wonderful and the live pianist was superb- who new Radio Head could sound so good on a baby grand and I got a bit emotional when he played There must be an Angel. Added bonus of log fire, 30's decor and fresh flowers.

My wife and I were looking to see what the hotel was that this brasserie was in. A member of staff came out to say hello and invited us in to have a quick look around. Decided to have a drink whilst there. Very attentive staff, lovely setting and prices less than anticipated.

Really refined bar. Food great, service extraordinary. Location fantastic. Better than Hadrians which it replaced.

My absolute favourite place (when in Edinburgh) is The Brasserie Prince inside The Balmoral Hotel. I adore the Classic Fish Pie with Fries on the side and the only dessert for me is the Crème Brûlée. I may of eaten a few of these in my time and by far the best I have eaten is most certainly here at The Brasserie Prince. A delicious lunch meant a Sunday well spent and I will always look forward to visiting, and eating, here again soon! 🤩

I unfortunately have to retract my previously positive review. I visit this place quite often for a few drinks and to chill, but last night I was REFUSED ENTRY! at 17,45 and with plenty of empty tables! I called at Prince at 17,45 asking for a quick table for one. I was told they were taking only reservations and no walk-ins that night. I tried to say I would be quick, the person at the door (a gentleman) repeated and even said "AS I SAID, we are only taking reservations tonight". I was appalled. It was 17,45, a lot of the tables were empty and I have been at this place before on Fridays and Saturdays as a walk-in at even busier times and they have always found me a spot, if not, they offered a spot at the bar. I have never noticed particularly well-dressed people in this environment. I, myself, have never come here dressed as if I were going to the gala. BUT, you know what? Last night I was wearing the coat in the picture, with jeans and loafers. My hair was tied up in a ponytail and I was wearing no make-up. I guess I didn't look glamorous? Not feminine enough? With a big chunky coat and jeans? I am appalled. I wasn't born yesterday. This doesn't seem to me like the country where appeareances matter (and, for that one, there's jeans fetching at £2000....). Do they treat in the same way someone who might have saved the entire month or year to come treat themselves there? Just because they're not fancily appearing? It just feels horrible to be discriminated against. On top of that, I was and am depressed and wanted to just have a chill time in a place I kinda like. Whatever.

Els coberts perfectament aliniats, els cambrers parlant amb un accent italià La sensació de ser en una esfera fora de la realitat exterior. I no els he provat, però he vist passar uns quants coctiailsr d’aspecte irresistible.

The bar is an amazing place to get some drinks mid day! The food is quite good and the cocktails are made to perfection! The service staff is very kind and well trained! Not cheap but worth it for the experience

Had the best evening / meal at The Brasserie. Our daughter booked a table to celebrate our wedding anniversary and they greeted us with a lovely glass of bubbly which set the tone beautifully. The staff were amazing and made our evening extra special. Loved the food and was sad to leave. We will return again for sure.

Booked meal in the bistro restaurant as No1 was closed. What a disaster! Starter was meant to be scallops with crispy pork belly. Was advised that pork belly wasn’t available but we’d get extra large portion scallops instead. . We got 1.5 scallops each and that was it!! ( they’d clearly cut the scallops across in half so it looked like 3 but in reality only 1.5). Absolute rip off. Tomato salad was two sliced tomatoes- NOTHING else. No dressing or seasoning - just sliced tomatoes. Fish was meant to have fennel. NO fennel- half a slice of courgette instead (and I mean half a slice!!) Again no seasoning or any flavour. Truely awful experience. Unacceptable arrogance as they clearly think they are above a decent service! Avoid the Balmoral !

I had visited the Palm Court the day before for their sublime afternoon tea so decided next day to try breakfast at Brasserie Prince. Breakfast surely must have been equally as appetizing. Well, no, it surely was not. Porridge was reasonably tasty as was the Balmoral full Scottish breakfast although it took 25 minutes to materialize. I would have liked to try their corned beef hash but was informed that one could only take one meal from each section. No staff mentioned this when I arrived and nowhere was this mentioned on the menu. This is quite poor for a five star hotel. My latte was satisfactory if somewhat bland. I did inform the head waiter upon leaving but no reduction in the total bill was forthcoming.So, overall very poor. I’ve visited nearly every five star hotel in London and I’ve never come across such poor customer service. Full marks go to the team in the Palm Court. Brasserie Prince, you’ve got a lot of catching up to do before this disgruntled customer visits again!

We visited for dine and bar. Regarding dine, food was delicious, and service was attentive. Regarding bar, service was attentive, taste was excellent! And There is also non-alcoholic cocktail menu!

Fabulous service and beautiful hotel.The food is absolutely delicious and well presented. A must “ do “ experience if you are visiting Edinburgh.We have dined in No . 1 and tonight we dined in the Brasserie Prince . It’s a lovely laid back atmosphere and the cocktails are definitely worth trying

Booked as a surprise for my husband - we watched the series on TV and both loved it!Table was perfect. In the window. Very comfortable seating. Lovely atmosphere. Only two staff on that we would have considered competent and confident though - and they were rushed off their feet by the time we left.Charging £6.50 for a bottle of water was excessive (sorry, not mean, but did cause a second look at the bill). Food and presentation we considered first class - until we visited The Witchery!Crockery had seen better days. Comparing the butter dish to the dinner plates it was clear they’d been well used. Maybe a lunch next time. Dinner was lovely but whether value for money…….
