Food was ok. Service was fair but probably could’ve been better. All in all not bad basic pub grub for the price.

We stopped for a bite to eat halfway through our bike ride. It seemed like a good idea because the place has good reviews. But after we sat down and decided to order a pizza, the waiter informed us that they weren't taking any more tables unless they had reservations because they had a busy day! We'd imagine they wouldn't serve us because we were dressed as cyclists!

Great for a cheap family dinner. Outdoor area is fantastic and has live sport outside if you are after that. Food was great value for money.

Been in once since it was taken over by greene king pubs. Great menu and service, good food, lovely spacious interior and beer garden. Only downside was they had ran out of wine the afternoon we were in.

Visited The Stables for the first time since it has been revamped. The decor is lovely. Menu has a good selection of food. The lady who served us was very pleasant and friendly and our food was delicious. Will definitely be back.

THURSDAY STEAK NIGHT Big improvement in the stables from new owners decor tasteful and comfortable staff and service was amazing. Steak for two was tender and tasty and the bottle of wine of your own choice was a bonus all for £30 we will definitely be back there’s a few things on the menu I want to try 😋

A really nice place staff were great and the service was flowing food was great . Baby changing facilities were 10/10 as was the ladies . There was 7 of us and 2 babies . Welcoming place staff attentive and great value We will be back

Very slow service, waited a long time to get our order taken, even though we had told staff we were ready to order, also said if it helped we could go to the bar and order, only to be told no it’s table service, Curry not good, Mac and cheese tasteless, Eaton mess frozen frozen fruit, Dirty tables in the bar area, never seen bar staff once clear glasses of the tables or wipe them down.

We have visited The Stables twice this week to eat and neither time have been able to order any food. We first visited on a Tuesday night and were told we could not order food due to the quiz starting at 8pm. The website advertises food served until 8pm, but as we were about 7.30pm we opted to give it the benefit of the doubt and stayed for a drink instead - only they had no white wine or preferred cider choices left. We assumed teething issues for a new place and were pretty relaxed and polite about the whole visit. The second attempt was a Sunday evening, where we arrived at 6.30pm, well before the 8pm cut off. There were a grand total of 7 tables occupied / being served food. We tried to order food but were then told it was 'fully booked' and we could not order.....well more than half the tables were empty!?! We simply got up and left this time due to the time it took my partner to be served at the bar and the way he was spoken to by staff. Even if we were told there was a wait for food or a reduced menu available, we'd have been understanding. Greene King have been contacted directly as I feel it was more that our custom isn't wanted and we were judged as people. This is sad as it is our local and we were excited about the venue reopening and ironically hoped to be regulars.

We came there today restaurant almost epmty and they said not free table. Staf was very rude. Very disappointed with this restaurant.

First time in this place last week and what a welcome we received. We met the owner who is so passionate about what she does and this is reflected in the place. Atmosphere is 10/10 staff are amazing. Last week there was a DJ and tonight was a singer both fantastic. A real community feel about the place which is amazing. Tonight we had food and again was fantastic. Place was mobbed and food was coming out as fast as it could. Was a good pace the food was coming out gave me assurance it was fresh which is always good. Staff are all so friendly and lovely its a really good place would highly reccomend and so glad it's our local 💙

Have just left after having dinner. This was our first visit since it has reopened. Glad to say that the food and service has not changed. We had the steak deal which is great value for money. The steaks were lovely and cooked perfectly, the accompanying bottle of wine was very enjoyable. My son said the fish was great. Safe to say we will still be visiting The Stables in a regular basis. Great food, good portion size. Nicola and her staff are friendly, helpful and make you feel very welcome. Always been a regular visitor and love the recent makeover which has also extended the outdoor facilities. Restaurant and toilet facilities are spotless. Would recommend this wee hidden gem to anyone.

Was there last night for the quiz and it was great fun and went today for lunch with my daughter and we both had the hunters chicken and I can be a fussy eater but it was very good and my daughter loved it also

Insanely good pub grub! all cooked perfectly, fried items were a little too oily but other than that, can’t fault it. Excellent service and great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Kinda hate that I'm writing this!! I'd have given 1 star, but the 2 women made up the second star alone!! So booked for 5.30, there were only 5 others tables in. Show to our seats, but it was "through the back" I was scared the staff wouldn't see us if we wanted another drink or their attention and Tbh, I think I was right. We didn't get our starters until 6.20. and they were cold. The table of 4's (2xA and 2xC) order came out before ours, despite our order going in first, and us arriving first. But my son's dinner was roasting hot. I think the kitchen forgot that kids meals should go out first, so they put our cooked starters to the side and sorted my son. The chicken wings were good, despite being luke warm at best, but for a crispier skin I'd leave in the air fryer for a little longer or a big higher heat. They also didn't really have any seasoning. Just air fried chicken... The tempura prawns were odd. Soggy? I don't know how to describe it. It was like a thick sauce marinade over the prawn, then put into batter that was too thick to be described as tempura. They weren't terrible but they weren't great either. I ordered the rosemary and garlic dip with the wings, turns out it rosemary OR garlic, my fault. But I'm glad it was garlic dip I got, because my linguine was just cream. So well presented too!! With the chicken and bacon on top, rocket. Looked lovely. But it was the most bland dish I'd had in a long time. It's supposed to be "Linguine, garlic mushrooms, roasted red onions, creamy garlic sauce, Italian style hard cheese and rocket" the mushrooms were just plain, there was zero garlic, no onion at all, never mind red onion. There were 2 large shavings of hard cheese and just cream with pasta, so I'm glad I had the garlic mayo for some taste. I've never had to season a dish so much with salt and pepper. (Also a wee tip, get black pepper grinders for the table, few people use the white powder pepper and makes for a finer dining set up). Husband had the steak pie, it was fine, plenty gravy, but the amount of chips? Completely unnecessary and there was no broccoli... They also ran out of wine. All wine. They only had rose left. I got mini bottle of prosecco, but I think they ran out of that as well as it was like a sparkling wine I got after? Not prosecco. Which was ok, as it meant I got a full glass 😂 just not quite what I ordered. The only saving grace was the 2 women running around trying to make sure everyone had food and drinks. They were so nice and despite clearly being stressed had nothing but a smile on their faces. If you're looking to try it our after the refurb, maybe give it a few months of settling in and they can get a handle on their new menu and ensure they have all the drinks and produce for a decent meal. I get it's just a pub and having regularly enjoyed fine dining, I don't expect that when I come to these places. But this was really bad. Such a disappointment, as we've always had really decent food when we've came previously.

By far the best mixed grill ive ever had taste and presentation. Everything else was beautiful and staff were amazing. 100% will be back

Visited The Stables on Sunday 13th April and the entire experience was a disaster from start to finish. The place was visibly understaffed, the few staff on duty looked miserable and overwhelmed, and basic service was almost non-existent. Guests were left standing around unsure whether to order at the bar or wait for table service — either way, it was a long, frustrating wait. When the food finally arrived, it was nothing short of embarrassing. The so-called Crispy Korean Burger was literally just a plain chicken burger, not a hint of what was advertised. Both burger meals were missing the onion rings stated on the menu. The steak was dumped on the table without a steak knife, which turned up ten minutes later — long after the meal was ruined. The staff were so stressed and disengaged that raising any of this at the time felt pointless. There was zero atmosphere, zero care, and zero professionalism. To top it off, the men’s toilets were disgusting — blue roll everywhere, no bin, filthy sinks. Basic hygiene clearly not a priority. I gave them every chance to address these issues directly through a complaint. They didn’t even bother to acknowledge it. That tells you everything you need to know about the standards they operate by. Although leased, I have raised directly to Greene King who are now investigating further. Avoid this place — absolutely not worth your time, money, or patience.

Place looks lovely since it reopened beautiful decor but still lacks atmosphere. Starters were fab tomato soup lovely with nice fresh bread, Korean BBQ tacos were magic, mains chickpea & sweet potato curry was delicious, steak pie terrible, had an artificial taste not pleasant couldnt eat it, puddings were lovely but no honeycombe on the brownie & honeycombe dessert. Young female servers were lovely & help to bring bit of personality to the place, older woman was miserable & not very welcoming, chef on his own in kitchen not good....been..tried it...wont rush back.

Was here twice during last week on opening week after the new refurb the place looks amazing, food was unreal ( highly recommend the haggis fritters) atmosphere was great too.

The new decor looks great, a nice fresh clean atmosphere. There were no baby potatoes available to order. The hunters chicken wasn't served with onion rings I had to bring this to servers attention as that is what is supposed to come with it . Then my brownie and honeycomb sundae came with no honeycomb at this point I decided not to bring it to severs attention as I was deflated by this stage of not being correctly served what was supposed to be on the menus dishes.

Food wasn't the greatest prawn platter could have more prawns and bit more flavour chips and onion rings undercooked and soggy mac and burger was nice always loved the place aswell

I only give it one star because I had a bad experience. I made a reservation here on Google Maps for lunch on January 1st at 12:30 pm, it accepted and confirmed the reservation, but the restaurant was closed. I think the restaurant should have been careful to confirm here that it is closed that day, because I spent money on a taxi to get there, from Falkirk and we were left outside in the rain and had to return by taxi, without having lunch.

I took my mum here for lunch. Just totally love this place. Food is amazing. Best food ever to be honest. Staff were very attentive. The chef ranald actually came out to speak to us. What a lovely guy. Compliments to the chef. His food is out of this world. Best place ever.

Well worth a visit could not fault anything been back several times over the last 3months this continues to be our first choice dine out restaurant great food and very affordable

Edit August 2024: unfortunately seems to have gone downhill. Food on my side not good - mashed potato tasted powdery and manufactured, chicken and leek pie was sickly and tasted strangely of fish. My friend enjoyed his meal. Restaurant no longer dog friendly but you can sit outside. Original review: Amazing food and cheap considering the quality, menu choice, and volume of food. 3 courses for 2 people and 2 alcoholic drinks came to around £40, which is astounding considering you can get 2 courses at Frankie & Benny’s and come out of there feeling robbed. Menu at the Stables is extensive, staff are friendly, atmosphere is good, prices are very fair, and the food is fresh, piping hot and delicious. Literally can’t fault the starter, main course or dessert. Will be back soon, hopefully.

Coeliac's avoid! I'm absolutely shocked that this restaurant is recommended Coeliac UK restaurant. I phoned at the weekend to book a table and to ask about their gluten free options. The young lady I spoke to was very helpful and said that they did a range of gluten free items including a gluten free burger (yay!). However, she said if I could give her a moment she would double check with the kitchen as to what they actually had in stock and available. No problems there. Unfortunately this is where it goes wrong. I could hear her asking the "chef" what was available and I can only describe his reaction as utterly disgraceful! I won't repeat what was said, however, it's safe to say he clearly has no respect for his job or the people he's catering for, especially if they have an allergy, intolerance or medical condition... The young lady came back on the phone and said she was very sorry but the only thing they could offer me was a salad with some grilled chicken and some sweet chilli sauce (all in all not a terrible option but after hearing his attitude towards the gluten free request, I would NOT trust him to cook me anything!). She said that they didn't have any gluten free burger buns and that absolutely everything else on the menu contained gluten! Obviously, it was just too much effort for this particular chef. So so disappointing! I totally appreciate not every establishment will have gluten free food available at all times, which is why I like to phone ahead. Sadly, being coeliac is NOT an option and certainly not a choice I would willingly make if it wasn't for the fact it was making me very ill. I'm sure if you don't have any dietary requirements, this is a nice place to visit but I will not be dining here as I couldn't trust that any care was taken over the preparation or cooking of my food. Had a lovely meal here. Bub grub but it's lovely

Ate in it shortly after it was taken over a year or 2 ago and was really underwhelmed however having drank and ate here for years prior we wanted to gave it another chance recently but sadly found it to be much the same. Service was slow, waitress spent more time on her phone than by the tables meaning we had to constantly try and grab her attention and ask for the table to be cleared. Portion sizes were good but the flavour of the food was average and the halloumi fries appeared to be the same as what you’d get from Farmfoods. Most of the food just didn’t feel fresh in general and felt pre-made rather than freshly cooked. The restaurant itself just feels dated now and the tables and chairs were actually dirty in places - some of the chairs adjacent to us has dried in liquid running down the back of them, and our table still had small pieces food etc on it on arrival. Such a shame, used to be a great restaurant and bar under the previous owners and to be fair is still a reasonable pub, but the quality of the food, cleanliness and service has dipped massively. Sad to say but I wouldn’t return for food again, there’s much better pub grub in Stenhousemuir and Carronshore.

Had a really nice meal here and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a pub grub menu but with a pretty good choice and very good value. The steak pie was excellent. The staff were very pleasant and efficient. We would definitely go back.

Second visit here. Nice food and good service at a sensible price.

Took our 2 granddaughters here while spending a couple of nights in the area. Picked it because of the good reviews and weren’t disappointed. Hidden away in a housing estate but worth looking for. The children can be fussy eaters but found something they both enjoyed. One even tried my spaghetti bolognaise and gave it the thumbs up. So much so she is now enjoying my homemade bolognaise. The staff were friendly and attentive and it made such a difference from those chains of “family” restaurants with bland food. We will definitely revisit next time we are in the area.

Excellent food in a spotlessly clean restaurant. It's tucked away in a housing estate, but it's well worth eating there if you're in the area. The menu prices were too reasonable given the quality of the food.

Immediately barked at (pun intended) by barmaid that I shouldn’t walk in through restaurant area and should walk all way round to gate at back. Muttered something to her colleague about having a dog in a restaurant which I didn’t quite hear. (Many restaurants allow dogs so done see what her issue is). She then served me at main bar and abruptly warned me dog was only allowed in bar till 5pm. I’d already decided by that point I wasn’t staying anyway. Completely unfriendly, unwelcoming and unnecessarily passive aggressive. Beer garden is also in need of some TLC. Shame there’s nowhere else in area otherwise I’m sure most locals would go there instead.

Nice meal, haggis pakora was fantastic. We were a large group so had to get our own drinks which wasn't a big deal. Would visit again.

Hidden gem alert!!!! This has ample parking, friendly staff, amazing food and superb choice. 10/10

First time visit. Was quiet but it was a Tuesday evening. 2 course meals & 2 drinks for the 3 of us. Food was nice and good value. Service was friendly and faultless.

Went as a group of 8 for the festive menu. We were really looking forward to it as a bit of a pre-Christmas celebration. Starters came out and was disgusting! Prawn cocktail… tasted as though the prawns hadn’t been thawed out properly and tasted awful. Didn’t eat it and when waiter cleared our table we wasn’t asked if everything was ok. Thought ok maybe mains will be better. Absolutely awful!! Got the turkey and it was like a grey piece of processed spam! One slice of it and clearly fried in a pan. It was inedible. Got 2 small roast potatoes, would’ve killed someone if you threw it their head! They were like deep fried rocks. Mashed potato was glutinous and slimy. Clearly been left out too long. I honestly felt sick because it was so vile. So I left it. Again, not asked if everything ok. Customer service was non-existent. It was as if they knew their food was that bad and couldn’t risk asking us if everything ok. Then dessert… what can go wrong? Profiteroles. The pastry was RAW in the middle. Just slime! That was the final straw, when plates were cleared we said something. Waiters response “ah ok”. No apology, nothing. We got the bill and reiterated what we’d said about the food and he said he’d knock £20 off the bill for the desserts. Between 8 of us that’s £2.50 off each. Disgraceful. The whole meal was disgusting, the customer service was awful and we will not be back. We feel they had a chance to rectify this whilst we were there but failed to do so. I cannot believe they served this rubbish to paying customers.

Was there for Anitas funeral 01/12/23 who used to work in the Stables. Sandwiches bread was stale. Went home to get my dog as Anita loved her and thought it would be fitting to bring her along to cheer people up. My 2 friends accompanied with their dog as well. Upon arrival many funeral goers faces lit up and 10-15 people crowded round the dogs to say hello. 10 mins after arrival we were initailly told to leave by a pub goer....actually the general manager who wasnt working who we rightly ignored. Even some of the funeral goers encouraged us to ignore him as he wasnt actually on shift. In the word of some councillor somewhere in England. You have no authority here. 5 mins later we had to leave as the manager on shift stated no dogs after 5pm. A rule that we have since discovered was only brought in 6 weeks ago and wasnt advertised on social media anywhere. Called to complain. Caitlin handled the call professionally and was extremely sorry for the upset caused on an already sombre day and said I could speak to the manager who was actually working which I didnt really need but appreciated the offer and accepted. Nicola her manager on the other hand couldnt have been ruder. Stated it was cruel to bring a dog to a pub due to the noise and atmosphere and she personally wouldnt take her dogs there. (I wasnt looking for recommendations from someone who obviously hasnt socialised their dog correctly. My dog and my friends dog were happy that people wanted to speak to them) She then stated it wasn't a pub for dogs in a reason to why it hadnt been advertised dogs were no longer allowed after 5pm. (I am not stupid and actually understand the concept of a pub) She then said she didnt really care and it was busy so she was hanging up. Advised would call in the morning to speak to another manager as her attitude was stinking....I may end up visiting tomorrow. -10/10 would not recommend to a friend. Wont be back unless its to kick up some more tomorrow.

Very quiet at lunch time. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Food was ok, nothing special, but tasty enough, except for the seasonal vegetables which were undercooked and rock hard. I had the haddock mornay, quite a smallish portion but nice. I'm going again for a Christmas night out, so I hope it's a bit livelier and the food more inspiring!

Popped in for a late lunch. Place was pretty quiet. Great choice on menu, but both of us opted for the steak pie. Was absolutely delicious. Hadn’t been for a while, but will make a point of returning soon. Really couldn’t be nicer, and good value. Telling my friends, would be great for a wee night out sometime soon. (And the Christmas menu looks great!)

The meals were cooked perfect and a 'very' good portion generally, though the curry could have more. Prices are very reasonable and a lovely cosy atmosphere. Been twice this week.

Fantastic team, had the hunter's chicken and it came on a brioche bun. There was a salad garnish and slaw also fries. I can honestly say it was the nicest chicken I've had in a long time, succulent and tender, keenly priced as well. Would recommend.

Ok first the service is polite and efficient ambience a little background music would help. The food was a little bit hit and miss did get refunded for burnt onion rings so that's cool. Will I go back yes go back as some stuff wasn't on menu due to oven problems and to try! All in all pass marks hopefully next time it be better for a overall higher score If in area it's a good find and worth going 😏

Lovely friendly place. Nice to sit outside watching the canal boats. Food was lovely and hot. Great selection of food choices. Staff are extremely friendly and very approachable. Pets welcome inside & out I noticed. Highly recommended

This is an amazing place to dine. We had actually been there before, a year ago, and it was so good, we went back. My wife had never eaten mushrooms until she had them here. Now, if I want extra, I have to order more. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The chef actually came out to talk with us. The manager and her daughter were amazing and friendly. The business is very clean and accommodating. We will return, and we highly recommend it.

Disappointed in some of the plates of food not value for money

2 adults 1child I'll start with the positive first the girls were lovely. Now the negatives ordered a latte coffee which was undrinkable as it was so bitter. 2main courses were ok but 1 was terrible, it was meant to be a chicken burger bit it was just a lump of undercooked chicken that was full of water & had some blood init, on a bun definitely wasnt a chicken burger, it got sent straight back, my b/f was offered another meal bit he lost his appitite after seeing that. He ordered a drink that never arrived. Our granddaughter ordered caramel apple pie & ice cream the pie was lukewarm at best & the pastry wasnt cooked properly either. We've been coming to the stables on and off for years and the food has always been good but unfortunately i cant say the same for the food now,I dont know if it's changed hands, but the food and menu is nowhere near as good as it used to be. So on that, we sadly wont be going back.

Wouldn’t rush back for food, service slow and nobody interested after the mains were served. Ended up going to the bar for an additional drink, so many fruit flies which actually put us off staying any longer.

Nice food and an unusual but nice location, facing the sun and protected by buildings and trees nearby. It is a large place with a nice outdoor seating area. The staff were pretty disinterested and had no real care whether the correct food was delivered to the table, but was a peasant visit nonetheless.

Visited here twice while staying in the area. Travelled from Durham. The service was excellent and staff were very friendly! Some of our family were delayed and this was not a problem! Halloumi fries were excellent, steak cooked to perfection, puddings great! This was all half the price of our local restaurants! Worth a visit!

nice little local place. decent prices. food is good. only issue is pizza. pastry and popadoms were all swimming in greese.. 100% needs addressed. but in general the food was delicious and very homely/tasty x

Had my retirement doo here 20th May 2023 with work colleagues and friends. Can't thank them enough for the hospitality and putting up with us on the karaoke. Food was delicious!!

Bog standard pub food. Won’t be rushing back Food was bland and had to send my beer back as it was flat.

We found this cracking pub from some good reviews on the Web and we we're so happy we did. The food was very tasty, the price very reasonable for what we had and the staff were all very friendly. We will definitely be stopping by again next time we're in this area again. Easy 5 🌟

Review is regarding staff rather than the food, which looked nice enough. We had about 16 adults and 7 kids sitting in the beer garden area celebrating the day after our wedding. I called ahead to see if we could order food sitting outside without a booking and was told yes. Not everyone wanted food, but the kids certainly did, along with a couple of fish and chips/pizza orders, nothing major. The first order was made for all the kids, except for mine. I went to order a few minutes later for my 6 and 2 year old only and was told no. They had to prioritise their restaurant guests over beer garden guests. The restaurant was only half full. I explained it was just two kids meals I was after as all the other kids has been ordered for. Was still told no and to “try again in half an hour”. After trying to order again for over an hour and a half we left. Several times we went to ask even if the two kids could just have chips, a small pizza or whatever and the answer was always no. Upon leaving I went back in to complain and the attitude from the women was absolutely disgusting. I think she was embarrassed that her restaurant guests heard they wouldn’t serve some chips to a 6 year old. Spent a good bit on money, £200 plus i’s guess, lots of us very local. You expect the place to be very kid friendly with the park etc but obviously not. The blonde womens words were “i’m not here to serve your kid”. Shame, could be a great place for families as there isn’t many places with park facilities around but certainly wouldn’t recommend whilst these staff/owners are still there.

Worked a 12 hour trial shift never got paid

This place unused to be wonderful and relaxing. I visited with 5 friends for dinner on pre- booked table 2 days ago. One of our party was served the wrong drink, Ok, this was sorted. when it came to dessert, one of our party asked for banoffee pie from the time, no bananas, fell into a song! Then no cheese after asking for cheese board. To top it all the blonde women behind the bar ( was abrupt, no smiling and no people skills). I will not visit again to be made to feel as if we were intruding on this woman's time. The other staff were lovely. no complaints. I hope this blonde lady reads this and, takes up a course on customer service skills Thankyou

Went in today at lunch time, hadn't booked, place was half empty. Asked for a table for two, was asked if we had booked, said we hadn't. Woman working behind the bar actually tutted, huffed and shook her head. Said there were no tables. We went to leave and she shouted that we could have a table near the bar and buy a drink, but would be a long wait for food. No thanks. Left and went to the tea house instead where we were treated like actual paying customers. Blond woman behind the bar was horrible. Won't be back

What a disaster of a dinner experience. Arrived at the restaurant and were pointed to our table (not shown). After about 10 minutes, waitress asked if we would like a drink. Five minutes later I was served a warm lifeless pint of Stella. I managed to get the waitress to come over. I advised her that the Stella was warm and flat. She said that it didn’t look right when pouring. Why the heck was I served it then ! Dinner arrived, what a disaster. Steak pie dinner, veg undercooked and stone cold, mash potato lumpy and bland. Steak pie was OK but cold. Wife had Scampi which was OK. Ordered another pint of Stella and waited 15 minutes without it appearing. Got the attention of another waitress who managed to fulfil my request. Won’t be back here again 😩

Not been in a few years, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Firstly the server was not friendly or chatty. Very short and gave over the impression that they didn't want to be there. I ordered the Mac n cheese burger. Which looked disappointing. A Brioche bun with some salad on the bottom then a burger, with a spoon of runny Macaroni on top. Not sure what I expected but it wasn't that. My wife's dish (sausage and mash). Looked better presented. The food was fine but fairly ordinary. On a more positive note compared to the competition, the prices were very reasonable.

Whole family enjoyed visit including pre teens.
