The talented chef produced wonderful food, as always. Debbie & her staff were lovely and attentive as ever. Why this place is closing at Christmas is beyond me, it is a jewel in Doncasters crown. Thank you for lots of wonderful memories over the years.

Christmas 2017 will mark the end of "The Stables" unless an Interested Party decide to continue this Wonderful Restaurant as a going concern. Last Night my Wife and I attended the "Spanish Tapas" themed evening, having been fortunate enough to Work in Barcelona and all of the culinary delights associated this was for me to be a challenging event for "The Stables" to attempt....... Fantastic !.....for £30 each we experienced the likes of "Serrano Ham, Salami, Chorizo, Peperonta, Crispy Squid, a Seafood Paella full of Mussel's, Squid, Prawns, Scallions, with a Main Course of Chicken Brochettes, Fried Pork Belly, Beef Cassoulette, all served with a Chilli Ginger Salad.....topped off with a Dessert Called Crema Catalana with an abundance of Rasberries and Bluberries ".. We passed on the Tea, Coffee and Biscuits ! We thoroughly enjoyed our Spanish Experience, the Staff were so professional and genuinely helpful, the clock is ticking on this outstanding Restaurant we are already committed to spending Christmas Day at The Stables, it really is the "Best Around !"

Excellent barman served us before we went and sat in the lovely courtyard and waited for our table as we were early. Staff were attentive and engaging. Starter was excellent and the meat was cooked to perfection. Veg was al dente and roast potatoes were superb. Cannot fault the place.

Visited with family for the seafood night and yet again couldn't fault the food and service. The salmon salad was like nothing we have ever had before, fresh, tasty and plenty of salmon. The highlight for us was the seafood chowder wow I could have had seconds and possibly thirds it was unbelievable. The sea bass was cooked to perfection as was the desert. The staff here are always so polite and attentive nothing is too much trouble and everything runs like clockwork they really are a credit to this restaurant. Looking forward to other themed nights in the near future not to forget Christmas dinner. Thank you for another unforgettable evening.

25 December. A nice venue staffed by genuinely pleasant people. Nice food and lots of it. Great idea to serve pre dinner canapes in the bar first. Whilst one never wanted to be rushed, I do think it would have been a good idea to stagger the "start" with perhaps half the guests at say 12.30 and the other at 1pm because when we did sit down we had to wait a long time. The tables were served in a set order and if you were at the end of the queue as we were, it was an uncomfortable wait (whilst others were eating). However. I am happy to recommend this restaurant and I am sure we will visit again. Reasonably priced too.

We were so "Blown away" by our Christmas Experience at The Stables I wanted to write a review on Christmas Day!.....then I thought that I ought to take a step back and think through logically what had happened...........now on the 6th January having revisited our "Christmas Dinner" at The Stables it's simple "It could not have been any better" It was more than Value for Money, the Food was Exceptional, the Staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble....the whole ambiance created was Perfect, I asked on the Day if we could Book for 2017 my fear in writing this is that it may be more difficult to spend Christmas at The Stables this Year ! I could go on about the Canapés I could go on about the Fish Cakes, I could go on about the Pumpkin Soup and Turkey and Parsley Mash and Christmas Pudding and Mince Pies and.............Table Decor......but I won't, a few years ago I ate at The Ivy in London's West End and paid a small fortune entertaining customers but said that I had never tasted or seen presented "Better Food" The Stables on Christmas Day was simply Head and Shoulders above that ! You should be really Proud of what you all achieved. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

Wow! Had Christmas dinner here today. Four of us in total including 12 year old and 14 year old. Was a bit apprehensive after booking the stables wondering if I had wasted £265 after paying in advance. Needless to say I def. didn't. The welcome was wonderful, prossecco and canopes in the bar area were fantastic we were seated in there with crackers and lovely table decorations. Then for lunch escorted into dining room with yet again a lovely table complete with decorations, quality table cloths, linen napkins, crackers and present for my 12 year old son. He thought he would get the usual selection box, but not this time he received the latest David Walliams book, he was so chuffed! The meal ran like clockwork starters were delicious the fish cakes were hot, fresh, homemade and to die for, the meat platter and melon was also really good. The soup (next course) was out of this world, pumpkin and sweet potatoe we all thoroughly enjoyed. The main course well no words can describe the quality and quantity of what we had it really was magnificent, 2 turkey, 1 sea bass, 1 beef served with dishes of fresh veg including roasted carrots, parsley mash., twice roasted pot, plus crushed sprouts with peas, shallots and pancetta so lovely. Desert was georgous, cheesecake, xmas pud, baileys pavlova, these were by no means your usual run of the mill deserts, some served with fresh edible flowers and baileys cream all were brilliant. Coffee and mini biscuits next course if u could manage it. As you can probably guess by this lengthy review we thoroughly enjoyed our day so thank you to all the staff, from kitchen to bar to waitresses to the organisers( and many more I guess ) you did an amazing job and if we could have booked there and then for next year we would have without a doubt,! We will return that's for sure! Thank you again for such a wonderful day 😀

The best Sunday Lunch I have had for a long time -including those I have cooked! The Goats cheese and mediterranean vegetable tart was so tasty - and no soggy bottom here! The choice of roasts was excellent, I had the yummy rare roast beef and some pork and crackling, all with Yorkshires, roasties and al dente vegetables. And there had to be a special small place for dessert! The salted caramel cheesecake was out of this world!! Attentive and professional staff completed a great Sunday outing!

The Stables had been highly recommended by a Neighbour, when we tried to book Sunday Lunch we were told the earliest booking was some six weeks away, this alone told us that the wait was going to be worthwhile. Let me tell you it did not disappoint , indeed without a doubt it was the most Impressive of all our Local Restaurants, "Classy" "Charming" and Incredible value for money. We had a delightful table looking out onto the Courtyard complete with Place Name rather than the usual "Reserved" added that subtle difference. For £50 My Wife and I had an excuisite Three Course Meal Drinks and Coffee, our Starters were Calamari for the Wife and Spicy Meatballs for me, when we were ready the attentive Staff showed us up to the Carvery where the Chef had a "One to One" with Michelle and I about the Four Meats on offer and which sauces suited which, so different to being part of a "Snake Like" queue around the room......and Special. Again not "rushed" an array of Deserts was presented to us, too many to detail needless to say all looking Superb, any of which would have complemented what had gone previously. What an experience, the mainly Young Staff were a "Throwback" to genuine Good Manners and Service and a Credit to their Employers. Both Michelle and I left wondering why we had needed a prompt from a Neighbour to Discover the Wonders of The Stables, We will be visiting again at the earliest opportunity......Thank You The Stables you really are "The Best Around !"

What a lovely venue for a small wedding. Not brilliant for a large wedding as night room is not the biggest. The food was fantastic and drinks weren't too expensive either. I was really impressed with my stay at The Stables last month. The staff went out of their way to help me and made my stay as comfortable as possible. The location was great, close to the main towns but located in beautiful country grounds which made for a quiet night's sleep. First of I have to say we had a great night, and we will return. The staff were great and very friendly. I only have 2 complaints:1. This was a tapas night and in general the food was lovely, but where was the garlic? Spanish food needs GARLIC!2. The paella, it was not paella! It was an undercooked runny risotto and I'm sorry but it was not at all good! However, on balance I would recommend trying this place, it is a great environment with great staff.

15 years ago we were married at The Stables at High Melton and since that time we have become regular visitors for anniversaries and special occasions. We have had Christenings here for our kids and an amazing party for my wife's 40th birthday not so long ago. We have always enjoyed the food, the ambience and the dedication of all the staff who have always tried to ensure that our visits have been memorable ones. We visited in April this year to celebrate our wedding anniversary with our three children and had the most amazing few hours. We chose meals from the weekday bar menu and really enjoyed our Starters and our mains and obviously the desserts!!Everything was perfectly cooked and everything tasted just as it should. - highlights were the steaks, the Lasagne and the beautiful Yorkshire Pudding Starters!!The Waiting staff were lovely with Debbie attending to our needs. We have been so often that it really is like going home.A wonderful evening with the kids which was topped off by a magical moment. We were taken from the restaurant at the end of our meal into the main building which was locked up and escorted to the room where we were married all that time ago. The kids had never been in it before and the man who took us over, the chef himself, turned his skills to photography and took several pictures of us as a family stood in front of the feature fire place that we were photographed in front of on our wedding day exactly fifteen years before. Amazing time made that way by amazing people. Book an event or just get there for a lovely evening meal for a sophisticated change to the pub. I would like to think that you wouldn't be disappointed. Thanks to all at The Stables - we will be back soon. Simon, Sonya, Isabel, Selina and Imogen.

I brought my parents to The Stables for Mothers Day lunch (06/03/2016). I was extremely disappointed by the whole experience. When we arrived we were seated at the table next to the door, the draft that was billowing through was extremely cold and we were the furthest table away from the carvery. I asked if we could move to another vacant table nearer the carvery, explained that we were cold and explained that my mobility wasn't great due to surgery that I've had. We were told that the other table had been booked and the waitress closed the door to stop the draft. When we returned to our table following the collection of our carvery food the roast potatoes, swede and carrot mash, and peas had been brought to our table. We were very disappointed with the choice of vegetables, myself and my Dad don't like peas so we were left with no vegetables that we could eat. The Swede and carrot mash was cold and the roast potatoes were deep-fat fried, not actually roasted. We were gutted. When we went to select a dessert my Mum wanted the fresh cream scone, to which she was told had ran out. And I asked for ice-cream with my lemon and pine nut tart instead of pouring cream, I was told that "there isn't any ice cream today".Throughout our whole meal the barmaid continued to wedge the door open, I asked her not to because we were cold and she said "its the only way I can clear the glasses".The whole experience was a disaster and made me feel ashamed to have taken my Mum for such an awful meal when I wanted to spoil her.Not one member of staff asked us if our meal was ok, therefore we didn't have chance to raise our concerns. At £25 per head it was diabolical. I believe in value for money, this situation made me feel like I had been robbed of my money.I emailed the manager who responded, apologised and offered me a 10% discount on my next visit. I didn't respond to his insult or take him up on the offer because I don't want to waste any more money at this establishment.

I came across The Stables read the reviews and thought it sounded like a nice place for Sunday lunch before travelling 3 hours back home. From the moment we arrived the staff were very welcoming. We sat in the bar area and ordered our starters. A few minutes later we were taken through to our table and our starters followed very soon after. They were very good. We then made our way to the carvery. There was a selection of four meats. All delicious. Next time for desert which were amazing followed by coffee. To sum it all up a very nice experience, very friendly staff and fabulous food. We got married at the Stables on 30.08.2015. From the moment we booked the venue Debbie/Karen and the team couldn't do enough for us. Everything was perfect Debbie and her staff ensured that everything went without a hitch. All of my guests have said that the welcome drinks and nibbles were were out of this world. Other guests have told me that the wedding breakfast meal (Roast Beef) was 'one of the best that they had ever had'. The bar drinks are very good value for money too. Nothing was to much trouble, Debbie and her team were there for us every step of the way.We also got married in Melton Wood at The Stables. Debbie and her team were there waiting for me as I was preparing to walk down the isle. Debbie is also a first class wedding dress 'fluffer' for those moments when the dress may of been slightly flattened. The younger waiters and waitresses were also brilliant. I would recommend this venue to anyone. Thank you for a truly magical and memorable day! Bridal suite/guest accommodation The bedrooms at The Stables are very basic. The bridal suite is also very basic. Immaculately clean; but basic. This I know is because the accommodation is used for students. I'm almost certain that this venue would benefit greatly from just a few rooms decorated and used solely for wedding use. Our wedding party stayed at alternative accommodation.

Decided to go here after looking at nearby restaurant reviews and not being impressed by them. First came here for a meal with work many years ago and it was lovely then.We had a 3 course meal and it was all lovely. When we arrived we were greeted enthusistically and taken to our table. There was a good choice of menu, but not huge. We both started with goats cheese and caremalised red onion tart, which was gorgeous. Then I had rump steak. It came in a bowl with sauce and first of all I thought it was braising steak but it wasn't and was delicious, and cooked as requested. My husband ordered salmon but the new waitress brought gammon! However this was very promptly remedied and he was brought a very nice piece of salmon. We had saute potatoes served separately and roast vegetables. Then we had dessert which we probably shouldn't have! I had warm belgian and white chocolate brownie and ice cream, while my husband had macarpone and berry cheesecake with ice cream, which he said was delicious. The service was excellent and very friendly. The price was also good, for such high quality. We had a bottle of Pinot Grigio which was one of the nicest I have ever had.We will be returning without a doubt.

The party was set for June 2015 as a BBQ and disco, as there is a beautiful outdoor quadrangle, with a plan for indoors if the weather was cold or wet. Unfortunately, it was cold, but it did not spoil the fun. Thank you to Sally Hickey for co-ordinating the party for me. We had a red carpet entrance as dress code was glitz and glam. Everyone enjoyed the food and if vegetarians are attending, they can be catered for. The burgers were huge and very tasty and the chicken was gorgeous. Sally agreed for me to bring some battery coloured lights for the outside area, which was pretty as the evening drew in. The disco was also enjoyed by everyone. We had sole use of the bar, the party room and the outside area. Decorations for the tables can be discussed. Thank you to all the staff, for their very good service and attention. My family and I also booked four of the bedrooms on the top floor of the Old Hall. They were clean with comfortable beds and en-suite bathrooms and were excellent value for money ensuring we could have a drink and no-one had to drive home. The grounds to the venue are lovely with many trees and grassy areas. As it was midweek we missed out on a cooked breakfast, as they are available at weekends only. Can recommend heartily for a party venue. Also attended for a Christmas lunch last year which was fabulous with a lovely choice of menu. Well worth it. We shall visit again.

We have enjoyed Sunday lunch at The Stables for many years. The location is an old stable block on the edge of the Doncaster College campus, adjacent to the village church. So when our daughter was chosing a wedding venue, we quickly decided on the Stables, and had a wonderful day there. The church is next to the stable block, so there is only a short walk between the two. The venue has become very popular as a wedding venue and is booked well in advance. In addition to Sunday lunch, there are a number of feature themed evenings, and we are regular attendees on Valentines night. They are also open for bar meals Mondays to Thursdays, and the menu is varied, with good sized portions. We took my Mum there last night and had a lovely meal - the beef & ale casserole was especially good. So if you are looking for a good meal in this area, The Stables takes some beating.

Standing on the shoulders of giants - last night four of us attended this event this is what we think:-An email a couple of days before the event confirming our attendance. On arrival a leisurely drink at the bar with canapé - they even catered for an non meat eater - great!20:00hr sat down at a table that was laid on the whitest table cover, gleaming cutlery, sparkling classes, candle and flowers.I am not going to tell you what we had to eat you need to book and find out for yourself - be prepared for something that will amaze your eyes and taste buds. The main course was a meat dish and again as a non meat eater they presented me with sea bass. Thanks the the front of house staff and the kitchen team - the high standard, quality and customer care consistently remains at the highest level. Will I visit again? - yes!

It's was the works christmas party, the room was decorated lovely and the amount of people it holds is just enough for a christmas party. Starter was butternut squash soup which was lovely, followed by fish cake balls, main was christmas dinner it was presented lovely and the veg were cook well. Pudding a selection of 3 mini puddings which were lovely.. Coffee and mince pies if you can squeeze any more in... Disco was okay... The tradition party type of music. Overall I would recommend the stables for a meal.

I think they are in my top five of good fish and chips, and are good value for money. The fish tastes really fresh, and the chips are nice and crispI did notice one thing that I didn't like on my last visit- when the tables were cleared, the jugs of left over milk were topped up and given to new customersThis isn't very hygienic, ' the tables are small, and the milk has been coughed and sneezed over, plus droplets of saliva may have gone in it while speaking over it.Also people may have not washed their hands after using the toilet, and have been handling the jugI think all the jugs should be emptied and washed up properly after each useI realise they are trying to save money by using less milk, but this practice is not acceptable. If there is a lot of milk left in each jug, then they are putting too much in in the first place, and should put less in.The customer can always ask for a top up.I tried to find an email address, but couldn't, so perhaps they will read this, and do something about it, as it rally puts me off now that I have seen this happening. The only other point I would make is that the chairs aren't moveable , so if you're a bit bigger than average, it could be a bit of a squeeze.

2020 Covid review Opening hours seem stale now. There's hand sanitise on the way in. No wifi. You can message them by Facebook to reserve a table. They have only 4 taps of real ales but no bottle any more. Expensive for Donny, 1.80 a half or 3.60 a pint. Old review Lovely place with 10 taps and loads of bottles. Prices are expensive for Doncaster but there is plenty of choice

Another fantastic meal here. Need to come more than we do. Portion sizes are huge and the quality of food is unbelievable. Fantastic hosts and a warm family atmosphere. Definitely recommend this place for everyone to try. I had crispy sweet chili beef starter and pork chops for main. Delicious
