The Squirrel Pub in Wycombe

What a lovely little pub. I booked a roast for us, completely blind as I don't know high Wycombe at all and I think I hit the jackpot! We were both really Impressed with the beautiful pub, the garden and the dining room. We were served by three lovely women and each person had a lovely smile and was happy to help. I had the roast pork and he had the trio of meats - they were HUGE! I really enjoyed my dinner, we could have done with a jug of gravy extra for the table. I think I might order the kids roast next time! The bill was a little higher than I expected for two of us but overall we'd definitely come back again!

I chose this pub as I read the reviews but I didn't expect the level and service that was given to me. My server Mena was attentive and the lamb was without a doubt the best thing I've ever eaten

We had our work Christmas party and they did us proud. Buffet food was good quality and a great selection. Staff were helpful and friendly. Great atmosphere, would highly recommend.

Excellent meal, both mains and desserts, cosy atmosphère and friendly throughout. Nice bar, too, all the customers enjoying what is a lovely, traditional pub with a modern twist in terms of quality and service. Lauren was great, attentive when we needed, so there was no need to attract attention for refills or menus etc. Pleasant, efficient service.

My wife and I visited The Squirrel Inn for the first time earlier this week and we were impressed. The purpose of the visit was dinner. Both of us are vegetarians and the menu offered a few very good veggie options. The food was a delight and decent value for money. The Pub itself is very pleasant. It has a lot of outside space which will be good once spring returns! At this time of year, however, their roaring fire is very welcome. As you can probably guess, I would definitely recommend the squirrel for dinner. Before signing off though, I think the staff deserve a mention. Lauren was running the bar and Daisy was waiting. They are a very good advert for the Squirrel. Given it was a wet Thursday, they were pretty busy, but the two of them worked hard with both professionalism and a sense of humour.

Absolutely brilliant food! amazing stuff! Big portion, food was fresh and delicious, served really nice! unfortunately I didn't make a photo of this delicious food. Thank you for make our evening, was lovely to be here with family. definitely we will back to try more of your specials :) We ate haloumi burger, beef burger and nuggets all with chips and all made by the squirrel stuff! Visited for a family birthday get together and a Sunday roast. Staff were extremely friendly and couldn’t do enough to help. The food was fantastic and great value for money. Lovely place with a great outside covered area too. Would highly recommend and will definitely be going back.

Sunday Lunch - We have wanted to go for Sunday Lunch for a couple of years but we haven't been able to as it been fully booked. So we were delighted when went this Sunday and took my mother in law. And still had a lovely time 🤣 Fantastic food and excellent service from Daisy. Can't wait to get back soon!

Super generous portions on the Sunday roast. The apple and raspberry crumble with a nice big jug of custard to go with it was definitely the highlight! Really friendly staff, great place to eat.

We found The Squirrel online whilst looking for some where to eat in High Wycombe. Lauren and Anna were fabulous hosts. Dining room was busy but they let us know they’d be with us as quick as possible. It was worth the wait!! My sausage and mash was the best I’ve ever eaten and Anna whipped up the cheeseboard sharing platter as a dessert for us even though the kitchen was officially closed. Very slow service for the blandest risotto I've ever had, pretty outrageous for £14. The burger and scampi seemed adequate, but otherwise quite disappointing really

Had a really great night there with my friend. The ladies behind the bar were super friendly and chatty, felt really at home. Definitely want to come back for food, apparently the Sunday roast is to die for!

As a coeliac, I loved this place. We got here late afternoon and the kitchen was about to close, but top bar lady, Lauren, made sure we got our order in, which given it was a rare find of gluten-free fish and chips was absolutely brilliant.

What a delight to find ,perfect service ( made you feel welcome, but not intrusive). I personally had fish and chips, the fish was unbelievably succulent and the batter just the right crispness with the colour reminiscent of your favourite beach. We will all be back!

We had a lovely lunch at The Squirrel on a whim as we had a Quick Look to find a pub near by the airfield and saw they did gluten free fish & chips. Lauren was very helpful and a real delight, we had one GF first and chips and one normal portion both of which were huge, delicious, lovely crispy batter. Our only regret is that we didn’t have room for pudding as they also had a great gluten free selection, this is such a rarity anywhere we go we would have loved to get some to go but they don’t have the packaging. Would strongly recommend they invest as we would have totally taken away at least a couple of portions. Really recommend for a lovely, friendly and delicious pub lunch.

This has got to be THE BEST Sunday Roast pub lunch we’ve experienced in all of Buckinghamshire! Super roast beef served perfectly pink, abundance of freshly prepared vegetables, great roast potatoes and all Coeliac gluten free accessible very good options available. We’re going to be back often i’m sure! Oh, the staff were so friendly and checked everything was okay after food was brought to the table(better than okay) and love the down to earth friendly vibes and dog friendly too!! Pub Perfection!! Thank you ☺️

The staff were very friendly and service was quite quick. We moved to the bar after eating, the language from a couple of locals was off putting so we left. Food was fab though!

Lovely king prawn and smoked salmon salad just quite an unnecessary wait to be seated at a table on arrival despite plenty of availability. Surprised that there was no choice of sandwiches on the lunch menu.

Although there were six of us the service was quick and the staff were very friendly. We arrived early but they still gave us our seats straight away. The only problem was that the play area was for under 10s and one of our kids was 11.

Went in 4.45 weekday and no one at the bar for 4 or 5 minutes. Barmaid very uncommunicative. Smelly gents toilets which only window for ventilation opens into another area of bar overlooking tables. Never seen anything so bad.Not impressed.

Booked for Sunday lunch based on the excellent reviews the restaurant receives. It’s a charming pub - lots of character. We both ordered a starter and roast dinner. To be honest. I was disappointed in my soup starter which was very thick, under seasons and lukewarm, however my partners starter was fantastic. The roast dinners arrived and they were exceptional. Huge portions with lots of meat. All home made and delicious. Served with a huge portion of vegetables. We ended up taking the leftovers home for my partners supper later on! Prices for the quality and quantity of food are excellent. Highly recommend this lovely pub.

fantastic place . i go to most places for a bite to eat and a pint on a friday . wanted a change neighbour advised me to go to this fantastic place and great service and great food , lovely pub very clean lovely beer garden.. cant wait to go there again .

Came down to high Wycombe from York for my grans 90th birthday, the staff were amazing and really helpful had a lovely beer garden for the children to play in and the food was absolutely amazing! 5/5 will definitely come back. Pic is of tiger king prawn starter 😋

Being a singleton and really can’t be bothered cooking on a lovely day like today, The Squirrel is my go to place for a Sunday roast takeaway. I had roast pork today which came with broccoli, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, carrots, roast potatoes and gravy. The only downside was there was no Yorkshire pudding or stuffing whereas there has been previously.

Great little proper pub, with original saloon style bar, lovely garden, and newer build restaurant attatched. Sunday roast lived up to its recommendation, what a gem of a place! I'm keen to go again.

Food and atmosphere was brilliant. We had the holoumi skewers and the black pepper squid and loved all of it. Tucked away a real little gem will definitely be going back.

I first wrote a very positive review for the food here, about 8 months ago. I have been back twice since, and the food was awful both times. The service was also lacking on both occasions. We shan't be returning.

I was verbally abused by the manger so was my friends it was absolutely shocking that this person is in charge, will never go there again

I have been left Absolutely fuming. The workers behind the bar made a mistake by putting someone elses £140+ tab on our table, and when we went to pay they treated us like it was our fault, using sarcastic comments and lippy attitude in order to make my sister feel as if she was at fault for their mistake. To be treated like that is absolutely disgusting and i would like whoever they were spoken too and Sacked.

Some of the team are in desperate need of customer service training. Visited for some food and drinks. Everything seems too much like hard work. I understand it is busy but poor attitude and rudeness by one female bar member is just unacceptable.

The food was exquisite! A beautiful Sunday roast with lots of delicious veg, perfectly cooked and presented. We left full and happy! The staff were knowledgeable and attentive but also gave just the right amount of space for us to enjoy our meal for two. We’ve been here with our daughter and had a great time too, there’s a play area out the back and the garden is huge so has plenty of space for kids to run around, explore and work up an appetite, including swings and some climbing equipment. But today was all about my hubby and I and we were thoroughly looked after. Caitlin and her crew are expert at that! And Riley in the kitchen as a touch of finesse to the meals! Just fabulous! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Note: the dessert did not come covered in the cream, it was beautifully in the bottle, I just got too excited to eat it, before I took the pic.

I went to this place a few weeks back . I hope the title says enough , the you waitress was so pleasant and efficient . She gets Thorne positive mark , it’s mostly about the food in a restaurant review and I wouldn’t have given mine to a dog , the roast potatoes definately warmed up from either the day from the day before or the day before that even , veg was lifeless in general an the roast pork slices you could have resolved you shoes with , when the young waitress collected the plates she asked was it ok . I really didn’t want to make a fuss so told her I and whoever dished it up in the kitchen knows why most of it is still on the plate ,

The roast was amazing, highly recommend it. Meat cooked perfectly and the portion size was enormous, all for a great price. Service was very good also, overall a great pub

Got scowled at by the barmaid because the barrel ran out as she was pouring the drinks. Sat in the restaurant area where the atmosphere was terrible due to everybody shouting over each other.

Enjoyable first visit to the Squirrel Pub. We had scampi, chips and peas as well as fish, chips and peas which were both good sized portions and delicious. For dessert we had honeycomb cheesecake and apple crumble with custard - again both very enjoyable. What would have made the experience even better was that the main courses were both served on cold plates and whilst the fish portions were generous there was only a dessert spoon full of peas on each plate. Otherwise - highly recommend.

I was looking for a space to catch up with a friend on a late Monday evening so we thought we'd give the Squirrel a try... My partner had visited a few days back and told me he had a nice lunch there. On arrival, we were unsure if the pub was actually opened because of how and where the entrance door is located and it seemed quiet from the outside... Once we got it, William (bald man at the bar) was friendly, made us feel welcome and was patient to allow us the space to talk without us having to worry about the time (considering it was a quiet evening and getting late). I hear the food is decent so will certainly visit again! Glad to have discovered this nice looking and warm spot!

We recently visited The Squirrel Pub with the little one and we had an amazing time. The staff was attentive and kind, and the Sunday roast we had was delicious. The outside areas looked amazing, perfect for summer hangouts. Highly recommend!

Good food. I had the sea bass - perhaps a little too much butter. Generous serving of vegetables and sea bass was cooked well.

Another fantastic takeaway Sunday roast. I had the beef this time which came with roast potatoes, cabbage, cauliflower cheese, broccoli, mashed carrots, parsnips, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and a container of gravy. No point in cooking a roast for one when you’ve got this little pub a few miles down the road.

We came for lunch on Boxing Day, it was fabulous… the chef prepared a meal that wasn’t on the menu as we had requested it! It was great. Mena was so attentive and capable whilst the restaurant was full. The bar manager, Caitlin, served us drinks and made our day a very enjoyable Christmas dinner. I cannot fault this pub defiantly take a Trip there whether it’s for food or a drink!

Didn't have any real expectations of this place - we just needed somewhere convenient for a business lunch, but what a nice surprise tucked away off the beaten track in High Wycombe. Lovely friendly service, excellent food. We ordered a couple of portions of king prawns to start with - huge, juicy, nicely spiced served with warm bread and a very fresh salad. Two of us had the fish and chips - absolutely delicious fluffy crispy batter, light fish, chunky crispy golden chips served with a side salad. One of us had a the chicken supreme - crispy chicken served with salsa, veg and a side salad. Was reported to be very tasty too. Fresh coffee to end - we had NO room for dessert. Overall friendly, great food, nice clean and well maintained pub. A gem! We will be back.

So with the positive reviews online we decided to swing by to give it a go, unfortunately we won’t be returning, the Roast potato ! was dry and burnt, the Extra Large Auntie Bessie’s Yorkshire pudding was from the local supermarket it didn’t quite cut the mustard, The meat looked aromatic and very anaemic. All become clear when I spoke to a member of staff who said that the landlord is the cook. Having now looked online at the photos of other peoples meals it explains everything,

What a great little pub, food was great, good beer and a nice atmosphere for a small place.

We visited with friends for a Sunday Roast, decided to go for the mix of 3 meats. We were very disappointed, not only we waited for the food for a long time but the food came out cold, not to mention the portion of meat was so small. On a plate I got 3 small pieces of cold meat, what looked like 1 big potato cut into 4 pieces, 1 Yorkshire pudding with a very dry stuffing. We told the waitress the meat was cold and she took it away only to bring it back only for us to find out it barely warm. At this point we were so hungry we decided to just eat it. The potatoes must have been put back into the oven as they were very hot but the outside skin was so hard my knife barely cut through it. The portion of food was so small that we decided to go eat somewhere else straight away after. On top of all this the door leading to the restaurant was kept on being open and shut loudly all the time by people coming in and out, literally the noise was so distracting and annoying, all it would take is for them to fit a overhead door closer. Definitely wont be back again.

Launched there Sunday. Pleasant service, quick bar service, roast lamb excellent ditto veggie meal. Perhaps a little expensive but comfortable relaxed atmosphere. I'll eat there again.

Good clean crisp beer and the food is amazing

Yet another visit, yet another great experience. The food alone keeps calling me back but the cherry on the cake is the staff, the are always friendly, polite and helpful. They could probably do with an extra pair of hands at busy periods but we weren’t working to a timeframe so it didn’t bother us. We’ve been here with other couples, with 3 generations of family and I go there for the occasion night out with a group of colleagues and this place never lets us down.

Excellent pub, lovely staff and good food. The garden is a perfect place to sit when the weather allows it. Easy to get to weather your driving or getting an über from the city.

Came along for lunch with a very old friend who I have not seen for a very long time so we had a lot to chat about and it was the perfect place as it was quiet during the week. I tried the burger, which I have to say is one of the best I have ever tasted followed by Eton Mess (also lovely). Waiting staff attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely be back.

We visited due to the positive reviews but what a massive let down. The restaurant was not busy but the food took a while to come out. The food is expensive for what it is. Small portions. It was bland. The menu on their website is not the same as in the restaurant. None of the specials were available despite being on a display board. Someone in our party ordered a vegan burger and it was the most sad looking thing I’ve ever seen, rock solid patty just slapped in a plain bun. No sort of vegan cheese, sauce etc. It cost almost £15. The broccoli was hard and undercooked. The waitress asked us how our meal was, my partner said it was mediocre, she ignored the feedback and walked off. Eating out is not cheap these days, it’s a treat, so it is very disappointing when a meal is such a let down. We will not be coming back.

We had an awful experience with this pub. We 'hired' their covered garden back in September, which would have cost £200! The communication was awful and I had to follow up numerous times as I'd not get a reply from them. On the actual day, strangers would be sat in the 'hired' area and none of the staff moved them or had signs to say it was private party. They also left the previous party balloons up so we had to tidy these up ourselves. We paid an extra £150 for 'exclusive' use sumo suits, to fine that anyone in the garden could use them at our expense, again the staff didn't do anything to stop this. I then emailed twice after all this to see if they'd correct their mistakes or at least issue an apology, I was ignored and never received a reply. It's such a shame as it ruined my husband's 30th birthday party.
