The Spread Eagle in Manchester

Amazing party for our primary school hosted at The Spread. We love coming in, everyone is so nice like we are a party of the family. Food is really nice, better than the usual pub grub. I’m so glad since Molly and her team have taken over, we have a great local to visit again!

We went here to watch an England game during the euros, they hadn't put any more people on the bar so waited nearly 40 mins before giving up and leaving

Nice clean tidy room, Bathroom good size. Lots of daytime light in the room. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good Beer. Ideally placed for Old Trafford cricket ground. Chorlton is a lovely place lots of food and drink establishments. and a few shops to look around.

Stayed over , for the foo fighters gig , nice room, well worth the money , lovely staff , won't hesitate to stay again next time we're over for a gig

Very affordable stay close to the Cricket Ground where we went to see Foo Fighters. The room was comfortable, clean and had everything you need for a quick overnight stay. Would happily stay again!

This is a review of the hotel, not of the food. The Spread Eagle is a traditional pub with a small number of bedrooms in the Southern suburbs of Manchester. My room had a comfortable single bed, with a private bathroom across a (fire exit) corridor. My only problem was that I almost got trapped in the bathroom, as the door lock was badly fitted. There's onsite parking at the rear and a private entrance for hotel guests. On a Saturday night there was loud music that could be heard in the bedroom until 1115pm. They are open for drinks until midnight most days - the beer was good and reasonably priced. It doesn't serve breakfast, but there are plenty of options nearly, even on a Sunday, including a Costa, a Caffe Nero and a Wetherspoons. Access from the city centre is quite easy with the 85/86 bus from Piccadilly Gardens, or a Metrolink tram within walking distance. It's also an easy enough cycle ride from the centre, and there's a useful and reasonably secure railing you can chain a bike to, although no dedicated racks.

My daughters boyfriend had his 21st here in the function room. Brilliant night, excellent room very spacious and fantastic staff. Definitely recommend this venue to others. Thank you Claire, Dean and chloe your hospitality

We stayed 1 night in room 2 on a Friday night. The room spacious and clean, however the bathroom was a bit tired but functional. There was a separate entrance we could use rather than going through the pub which was very useful. There was some noise but this was not excessive and no more than we were expecting. I would stay again as it met our needs.

I originally gave this 2 stars like 6 years ago. Boy was I wrong. Viva El Spreado.

This is a Pub that uses a parking scam, arranged to meet friends , Chorlton was the most convientient. No notice or warning from staff on duty that you will be fined if using the car park . £60 fine after also spending plenty in the pub.

Unfortunately our experience of The Spread Eagle was ruined after receiving a parking fine. The car park had signage stating that only customers of The Spread Eagle were entitled to use the car parking facility (which we were). No other requirements were stated. We spent about 45-50 minutes in the pub and then left to head home. So, about over two weeks later we have received a fine for using the car park. Clear signage must be given, however judging by other reviews left I can see others have had the same issue. We would have happily given our registration to somebody if it was stated as a requirement, however it was not. We will not be returning out of principle, considering this seems like a tactic used to trick a lot of customers, which is a real shame.

Stayed the night, had a few drinks in the bar. Good room, nice, organised, helpful staff, very clean, very good value generally.

I stayed in the hotel above the pub. If I’m honest, I chose it because it was one of the cheapest and wasn’t really expecting much. However I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were helpful. The room was much nicer than I thought, with a little private entrance. Shower was cold but can live with that. You could hear the music from the pub below, which was fine for me, but if you like absolute silence then this venue isn’t for you. Overall a really pleasant stay and will definitely be back. Large Holts Pub in the center of Chorlton. Serves the usual range of Holts Bitter, Lager and Spirits, plus it offers beers from Bootleg. Don't think they do food anymore. Beer was much improved on my last visit.

This is an imposing pub sat overlooking a crossroads. Super building with lovely large interior, including a games room with a pool table. A Joseph Holts pub so Paulicarus had a pint of bitter. An all time favourite. The two tiered front terrace and beer garden is south facing so we made the most of an autumnal sunny Sunday afternoon. Not sure if we had been before. Large car park at rear, register at bar.

We had phoned a week prior to the event. We were contacted the next day and confirmed the booking. However when we arrived there was no booking. The staff, who were friendly and tried to be helpful, phoned the landlady who told them to book us in as walk-ins. The room we were given had reading lights above the bed but there was no way to turn them off. They moved us to another room where the reading light wouldn’t turn on and the to could only show more 4. The bed was tiny. But it was, at least, clean. By that time we didn’t want to change again so just lived with it. We got no apology at all. We did look for Basil Fawlty! Amusing but wouldn’t recommend.

Decent pub and local prices worth a visit.

Decent pint of bitter, live sports and some good outside space for a sunny day

Basic overnight stay, price was expensive for what we had. The man behind the bar who checked is in was very friendly and extremely helpful. Was late when we checked in and only had the Indian takeaway next door for something to eat. Was recommended by the staff who said they would give us cutlery and plates to have a take away which was very nice of them

Stayed here for 2 nights on the weekend of Coldplay’s Manchester gigs. The room was clean and cozy, perfect for what we needed it for. £90 per person for 2 nights is very steep though

Close enough to the city center and the rooms are very nice. The staff are so friendly and helpful and with a dj on until 12 at the weekend what's not to love!

Staff helpful. But advised not serving food and management now see it as a 'wet pub' only. Room has broken furniture and in need of refurbishing.

Staff helpful. Really not happy with the room. Broken furniture, shower needed cleaning. One room light broken, one without a switch, one blind broken. TV working, but no BBC 1 or 2 Holt Pubs web site says there's food ... but there is NO food, which is a serious pain when you've travelled a long way expecting to be able to get a meal at the end of the journey

Expensive..no soft drinks so could not have a shandy etc..none of staff bothered about nipping to local shop for some attitude was we still get paid so not bothered..big game on tv but no sound on tv..again staff did not try to sort it out..won't visit again.

Loud karaoke, almost impossible to communicate

Called in for a pint and sat in the Autumn sunshine. Very quiet even though it was lunchtime on a Tuesday.

We used the function room downstairs. This was great for our gathering of family and friends. Bar staff friendly and helpful.

Under new management, and what a refreshing difference.. Staff very attentive, polite and friendly.Land lady Hands on.great atmosphere. Will be worth a visit. Very enjoyable.. Thank you to all at the spread Eagle.

I visted this Pub recently with family and friends and parked in the car park not knowing we had to register to park there or we would recieve a parking fine by law if we are using there premises the staff should inform all car users inside the pub that they must register they have parked in the car park to avoid incurring any inconvenience and fines just like other establishments, example there is a disused pub on Stockport road that has the same situation and they always let there customers know there are cameras and please register just in case they forget, that used to be a very very busy and popular pub because all the students use it and around the surrounding areas there is nowhere to park because its all double yellow lines, when going back to the premises on my observation the sign post on the wall says this car park is for customers only no sign on the post saying cameras until you drive in BIG MISTAKE

Lots of undesirables on a Saturday. Noisy squawking women who try to intimidate regulars. DJ plays same 20 songs every Saturday. Boring and not a great atmosphere. Toilets never seem to have hand wash and need a good scrub. Bar staff not exactly friendly especially one particular woman who seemingly has a bad attitude when serving. Will avoid from now on. Not what it used to be which is a shame as this pub was a terrific night out especially Saturdays.

It makes for quite an underwhelming experience, and ends up with everyone feeling frustrated. Apparently this is a known situation. So whist the place is great, the staff are amazing. I would skip karaoke night if you ever hope to get a chance to sing. Very disappointed!

Exceptional staff. Lovely venue. I went for the karaoke night and the DJ really ruined the night. I, and my table, requested songs but the DJ simply played the regulars over us. Unacceptable - I waited 2 hours for my turn and ended up leaving before my song came on. I did ask him twice, and he pretty much shrugged his shoulders. When I requested my song I was number 17 - I took the liberty of counting the songs before mine as I was actually a bit nervous, but number 17 came and went. All in all: staff were very friendly and helpful, atmosphere great, but until the management do something about the horrendously biased DJ do not expect to sing a song if you're not a regular.

A parking scandal is being operated at this pub, do not go there. £60.00 for 2 minutes stay, they said we could park there because they had a room, then they said they didn't have a room. Deliberate cash cow in my personal opinion. Very very poor way to treat your customers, I will never go there again ever!

First time in on Saturday DJ was great the people was great and staff was great definitely going back great night out.

Be careful make sure you book car in or get a fine!! Rang them they will sort so hopefully all good. Good venue for functions. Good size room, staff Friendly. Would recommend.

Stayed over on Saturday to attend a family function Room 5 was a large room which was clean and fully functional, with fluffy white clean towels - always a hit with me First Impression was positive, nice greeting, taken to the room - very pleasant I was very pleased with my room, large and bright Staff throughout the night were wonderful and helpful My only constructive criticism (purely because I only saw cleaners on Sunday morning) My shower was difficult to regulate, probably needs looking at, i couldn’t get the side jet sprays to work , apart from a quick spray of cold water on my tummy ouch! The sink waste wasn’t running away either and needed a plug Also the staff should warn all guests to register their car on arrival, I only knew because my relative warned me before I arrived. Although there were lots of signs in the car park but it’s a bit stressful after a long journey, people don’t always stand reading posters If staff prompt guests there would be less problems and friction I would definitely stay over again if in that area

The food was great the £60.00 FINE FOR USING THE CAR PARK.WAS NOT GOOD. WE DIDN'T SEE ANY WARNINGS. NOR DID THE STAFF INFORM US THAT THE CARPARK WAS NO LONGER BELONGING TO THEM. WHEN IT CHANGED I DONT KNOW.. NOT HAPPY

We arrived early for a local market. The car park was in darkness. We met a lady at reception who checked us in - no mention of car park fees. Two weeks after our stay we found out after receiving a £60 fine that we had to give our registration number to reception on arrival. Why on earth did the receptionist ask for this - surely they would ask every hotel guest on checking in? So now we have a £60 fine. We spoke to the hotel who just rudely fobbed us off. So we paid the fine but then a month later a solicitors letter arrived to my wife ( how did they get her name) fining her £170 with all sorts of legal threats and damage to our credit score. The only way they would known of my wife is through the debit card payment she made which apparently didn’t go through. The company who wrote to us is known as Debt Recovery Plus who charged us £170 and will have paid some of this with the car park company who are linked to the Spread Eagle hotel. Draw your own conclusions. The hotel staff were very rude and clearly had a lot of experience of dealing with very unhappy customers.

We went to have lunch, but Sunday has only the traditional roast, which was not mentioned in the web site. Also, inside the pub has a horible smell like sticky furniture mixed with swet and other oudors that we could not identify. The decoration is very copy, though. But I think could check on the cleaning from time to time.

The staff here are really poor and the manageress really rude. Was told to p off and f off when questioning a £60 parking fine i was given for a 30 min visit. Holts pubs are not good generally but this one takes the biscuit for rudeness. Utterly appalling. Worse than last time and wont ever go again

Came here to visit my friend having lived in Manchester myself, the team are great very welcoming nothing was too much trouble service with a smile ,we the bacon and cheese burgers and the curry the food was excellent very tasty will definitely come again and recommend to family, Excellent service

Helpful staff and a very tasty Sunday carvery

Seems like a lively pub. I was in the party room downstairs for an wedding afterparty. It was spacious and the dancefloor was quite big. Everyone had fun and the bar staff was excellent

Booked wake for my fathers funeral. With three weeks notice, booked with a deposit and was asked to go in, in the days running up to the wake to pay the remainder. Went in two days before to pay the balance and check the room for final arrangements to be told they weren’t sure how they would cater as they haven’t ordered the food due to my payment being ‘late’. I paid when asked to do so, I spoke to them the week prior to confirm when I would be in to pay the balance, they were fine with this. The owners are rude made me feel like an inconvenience and spoke to me like I was an idiot. Suggesting I’d ducked their calls - I offered my call log as proof they were gaslighting me but funnily enough they weren’t interested. Asking to get in to set up a memorial table was like asking to adopt their grandchild - literally a basic request. They weren’t happy for me to call in night before when closing up incase it bothered the chess club who ‘are snooty’ apparently, nice way to talk about your clients. After checking the function room it was a mess, wallpaper falling off in places, curtains needed re-hooking (which we did), light shades missing all over, room had been cleaned but was still full of confetti and crap from previous functions, stank of pee. They hadn’t staffed for the 120+ people expected on the day. They only wanted to cater for 50 because they hadn’t ordered the food despite having the booking for 3 weeks. With less than 24hrs I made a mad dash to a local competitor and sorted it within 10 minutes something which had been a labour of love with these unprofessional people. Tried to give them the feedback and explain their attitude was a bigger problem then all of it combined but landlady wanted to talk over me repeatedly and patronise me constantly. She took exception to being told I won’t do business with anyone who talks to me like a d***head and she lost her temper and barred me 😂 The bar staff are absolutely lovely but clearly very put on by management who are unprofessional not in keeping with holts managers in my experience in general and certainly not up to the previous manager. They have literally caused me the most stress during an already awful time. Avoid like the plague, only suitable for football drinking or stag do’s unless you like being shouted at and disrespected in unloved surroundings

Sunday carvery outdoors on the sunny terrace, overlooking the bustling suburb of Chorlton. Inexpensive meal. Food was good, but would have been better if the plates were warmed as food got cold quite quickly. If you want a Manchester vibe this is pretty good.

Lovely place and staff but we made the mistake of staying on a Saturday night when there's live music on and all we wanted to do was sleep after a long day.

Had 2 meals in this pub first was a Saturday night seating 12 of us the food we had wasn't to standard 2 of us had jacket potato with cheese & beans the potatoe could tell was an old 1 it was very dry as for cheese it was a few strands at the side & was more beans.staff was polite & pub had good atmosphere as for 2nd meal we give it Benefit of a 1 off we went on the Sunday day after we ordered 3 regular carvery & a kids we went up got our carvery it looked OK he did the kids but tried giving me meat that was scraps on side I said no thanks I want proper slice got it to table the Roast spud was white had no colour & was cold so was rest of mash & veg for that & 3 soft drinks came to £42 out of that 1 meal got eaten as my son was hungry

Great price. Room was very cold though, so had to sleep fully clothed

Stayed here for one night while attending a concert nearby. Rooms were clean and well cared for. Lovely bedding. Staff were informative and showed us to the room and checked everything was okay. Only issue was that our shower didn't get hot but this didn't...

Great room, had toiletries and coffee making facilities. Clean and nicely decorated. Decent rate. I didn't use the pub downstairs but everyone in there looked like they were enjoying themselves so that's a good sign.

First time in the spread eagle a few days ago after being in a few bars around chorlton, I didn’t know what to expect after reading some of these reviews but all I can say is I’m not the biggest fan of holts beers but the barman was very informative and suggested the bootleg ipa and I was pleasantly surprised, will be returning thank you

Enjoyed a drink & catch up, lovely, pleasant bar guy. Very clean, lots of space inside 👍🏽 too many TVs for me lol
