The Spinnaker in Isle of Wight

We rang, at abut 14:30 , to check if there was a table available for a late lunch. We were told yes. On arriving at the bar, we were made to feel like second class citizens whilst it was decided where we could be seated, despite there being plenty of empty tables, Which, from the dining plan he was checking were not in use again for some time on the Sunday. We were finally led to a table in the back function room where the families with children had all been placed.. This despite there being plenty of tables in the front area of the hotel. Clearly you are assessed on entering, and having just walked there we possibly looked a little windswept - Storm Ashley, rather than the coiffed clientele allowed to sit in the front areas. The food was lovely but overall doubtful if we will return.

We had a lovely time . Food was excellent on both our visits . Staff were friendly and helpful. Roast on the Sunday was amazing. Good selection on the menu .

Found this hotel perfect for our one week holiday. The room was very spacious and clean .and restraunt food cooked to perfection also the breakfast catered for all your needs especially the full English which we had .we must also praise the staff who did everything to make our stay special. And on another bonus with booking with the Birdham we were given a discount on our wight link ferry. And a special thanks to Anthony the manager who is very enthusiastic and keen to make you welcome and always found time to chat to us and make sure that we was enjoying our stay and anything he cauld do for us would be no trouble he certainly is a asset to the owners of the birdham

Hotel is spotless clean Staff are very friendly. Food absolutely gorgeous The hotel is in middle of a refurd so hopefully will be back next year to see it completed would definitely recommend room 2 bed is very comfy

Very poor experience 7pm booking 4 roasts wanted we were informed there were only only 2 roasts left. These arrived 3 tiny roast pots. Which were dry and hard. Complained to the waiter who said there were not enough left from lunchtime. That reason was totally irrelevant. Ordered deserts only to be told after we ordered that there were no Berries left for the Berry desert. When we got the bill waiter had removed 2 Gins but not the tonics at £3..30 each. Needless to say we would not reccomend and won't be going back.

The Birdham was great place to stay. We stayed there for three nights and everything was perfect. Zoe and her team were excellent. The rooms were clean and tidy although we did have to walk up two flights of stairs. We managed to eat the Full English Breakfast and I have to say it was amazing. There was also a very good selection of other dishes. The evening meals were of a good standard and there was a good selection on the menu. A good wine list to choose from. They also served a couple of very good local beers. We would definitely stay at the Birdham if we visit the Isle of Wight again.

Great night's stay at the Birdham - what a lovely old building. We had a family room on the top floor which was light, comfortable, spacious and nicely decorated with a separate bath and shower which is an unusual bonus. We dined in the restaurant in the evening and the food was delicious. The only thing I would say is that the children's portions were quite small in comparison to other places we have eaten at - the bonus being that there is no waste, of course! However, the macaroni cheese could have been a little bigger - don't think it would fill up anyone over the age of 7. Breakfast the next morning was great - lovely and fresh and lots of choice. Staff were friendly and accommodating and everything was really clean and well kept. We would definitely recommend a stay here and would go back if we visit IoW again.

The food here was amazing, freshly cooked so not your average microwave meals. It did take a while to arrive because it was freshly made but it was well worth the wait

I went there tonight and I must admit it wasn't very good. The hotel looked tired snd dated throughout. We had a warn nice welcoming from the barman, and then sent through to our table. We ordered and everything was fine. Mine and the kids food was out in good time, so we carried on eating, sauces can out half way through that course... I've got no idea why these places don't potion up tom sauces and mayo when you order.. Myself and the kids had finished our meal when my wife's food finally came out... on the plus side she did have some sauces with her food. The main waitress then asked us how our food was, I did point out that my wife's food was late.. at which time I was expecting some sort rectification, but nothing came. The food... well the kids portion sizes were ridiculously small, no use for a 7 & 10 year old... OK if they were 5. My burger was pretty good but as I would expect for £15 as with my wife's food. So in summary the whole building was tired, the food was OK but not good for that price point. The staff realised they messed up and didn't try to recover. The empty plates were left on the table for far too long I sort of wanted to clear them myself. Anyway their tip was used to pay for the my wife's late dinner... hopefully the kitchen staff will apologise to the waitress.

We were staying in a local holiday park and booked online for a Friday night family meal. All worked fab. Friendly welcome from the staff and showed to our table in the bar area. The pub, which is part of a b&b hotel, has recently been renovated and looks great. Good menu choices. The lamb skewers, chips, salad and flatbread was really tasty and good. Others had fish and chips and pie and mash. All great and all enjoyed. Good choice of drinks and reasonable prices for a pint of cider and bottle of wine. More family joined us later for a few bevvies. Fab acoustic musician was playing and great to see locals at the bar. The pub go have a few venues on the island. I would thoroughly recommend a visit. 5 out of 5 😀

So much choice at the carvery, and everything was cooked to perfection. Thank you to Anthony and the rest of the staff for a truly delicious lunch. Beautiful decor, and clean & tidy toilets. Will definitely visit again and would thoroughly recommend.

We had a lovely lunch at The Birdham at Bembridge. Arriving on a Friday lunchtime without a reservation, we were very warmly welcomed by Jackie and given a choice of table. The service was attentive and prompt throughout, with a warm, friendly atmosphere and comfortable surroundings. Wine selection was fantastic and very reasonable. Other drinks were consciously served and water was offered without having to ask. We didn't know what one starter, the halloumi saganaki, was and, after being given an informative and friendly explanation from Jackie, gave it a go. It turned out to be a fantastic choice. For main we had the fish pie and sirloin steak. Both were delicious and the peppercorn sauce accompanying the steak was particularly well balanced. For dessert, we went for the chef's special, a rolo chocolate dessert with salted caramel popcorn and ice cream. t was outstanding, with an expert combination of flavours and textures. It is incredibly rich and any larger a portion would have been a struggle. Special thanks again to Jackie for making our experience memorable and a wonderful highlight to our day.

The hotel is very tired and in need of tlc. Our bedroom had a very uneven and squeaky floor with what felt like a hole under the carpet that my heel went through. The bath was not properly plummed in and the overflow was literally just the hole with no cover and open to the floor. The tiles on the floor were cracked and lose, there was black mould. There was broken garden furniture outside the dining room window and the decor in the dining room is dated. When telling staff about the issues in the room they replied "it's on the list" I wouldn't recommend it.

A warm welcome from the outset, the bar and restaurant had an excellent atmosphere. Staff were very accommodating, and their positive attitude made the visit a pleasure. Food was very good - not only prepared with care, but clearly with good quality ingredients. What seemed routine items on the menu turned out to be really special on the plate. Lovely decor, kept in immaculate condition. One of the decorative wooden boxes on the wall was placed a little near the adjacent table though, I'd suggest moving out of the range of human heads. Overall a near-perfect experience, and can't wait to return!

Lovely lovely place! Staff were so friendly, we had a Sunday carvery and it was BEAUTIFUL! They allow dogs too so we brought ours and sat in the bar. It was decorated so christmassy and the whole interior is so beautiful in general. Would recommend to anyone!

We stayed when we were visiting a very sick relative in Hospital. The staff were amazing. So kind and flexible. Kept the kitchen open when we got back late. Food was fresh and tasty. Rooms are of a high standard. All staff were exceptional. We can't thank them enough. Going back to the hotel was a haven we very much appreciated.

Birdham Stay and Breakfast. Lovely stay on the IOW at The Birdham at Bembridge. Really nice feel to the pub/hotel. Friendly service and really nice breakfast.

It provides basic food to an acceptable standard, but is still probably the best food available in the Bembridge area. Prices are average; surroundings are comfortable and service was good. We just wish the kitchen did not always make at least one basic error for every meal we have eaten here. It is careless and unnecessary.

Food was ok. Had the Roast - considering it had been sitting under heat lights all day - it was very tasty. Husbands Surf & Turf was ok too. Staff were quick and efficient.

Evening meal for 3, the food was delicious and I would return again based on that alone but the service was incredibly slow. I appreciate we are on Isle of Wight time but our visit was overshadowed by the service. We seemed to be tucked in the corner and those collecting plates and glasses did not take orders and the one server who did was nowhere to be seen. Waited a long time for drinks and had to go to the bar to grab them ourselves - we did get an apology though which was nice. If the service was better this place would be outstanding.

As we are in business ourselves this was a spontaneous anniversary lunch. This was a totally unexpected experience. Anthony was great front of house and the kitchen staff delivered a wonderful lunch. To finish was an unexpected surprise of gateau and fruit. Definitely return, looking forward to it already and keeping an eye open for the music theme nights.

I chose this Hotel as it was nicely placed on the Isle of Wight Coastal Walk and as I was nearing the end of the walk I wanted some luxury. The Hotel was a lovely experience indeed. Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice Bar and a great breakfast. I had a double room which was luxurious. Bed super comfortable and soft - and a lovely bath a bonus. Hotel nice and quiet at night. We opted for a late weekend lunch-2pm- not many people there and had to order at the bar; staff were thin on the ground but at least they were very pleasant. Thought we’d try for Sunday lunch, when we got there all seemed good we were shown to a table and asked what drinks we would like.Then we were shown two menus , one for Sunday lunch and one of the standard menu.Before we even looked at the Sunday lunch menu they were whipped off the table and we were told there was no meat left, despite people turning up after us and being offered the roast?? And also us being able to see a big bit of beef still on the carvery.We then waited some time for our order to be taken and then it became apparent the service was going to be slower than the bloke serving in the white shirt.We arrived at 14.00pm and still hadn’t even had our deserts by 16.00 pm, it felt like we spent most of the afternoon wondering if anyone was coming back to serve us.i could here other tables also complaining about the service and how slow it was.If u don’t mind waiting for what seems like a lifetime the food wasn’t actually too bad, but nothing special.

We spent 2 nights here. The room was clean and provided a large bed as requested. We visited the Spinnaker on Friday evening and chose the special offer menu which was steak and chips plus a bottle of wine for £20. This was amazing value - the steaks were tender and the chips lovely and crispy. The spicy red wine complemented it perfectly. There was a lovely atmosphere with most tables being full.The staff were really friendly and helpful.

So so sad that this lovely looking restaurant is neither busy nor coming up to the standard of service of the others in the Group - which we regularly frequent.

In the middle of the holiday season when everywhere should be buzzing this place has the atmosphere of a residential care home. Even though we booked the ordering took ages and then we waited one and half hours for food even though the place was three quarters empty and we had finished all our drinks.

Being made to feel unwelcome at the bar is never good. Watching other folk (x3, presume local) being served before you when they were not even at the bar when you arrived and stood patiently waiting (in an unbusy bar) is not good service, wherever you go in the world. Does not give a nice welcome as a recently arrived hotel resident. Locals are nice btw, and other staff at hotel besides this experience have been great. Left without getting any service on this occasion and found another local hostilely.

Today was first day of a new Sunday Carvery concept. An excellent option for Sunday roast. Not your normal pub roast with over-cooked beef and soggy veg. I had good medium rare beef and pork with excellent self-service veg and Yorkshire pudding.

Stopped here for a afternoon drink and something to eat, good choice. Very friendly staff, I had the fish my wife had the smoked ham thoroughly enjoyed it, position size was generous. Two meals and and two alcoholic drinks just over £30.

Spare of the moment visit as the place we usually go to has closed. Despite the odd decor, the menu was very good and varied. The waitress/barmaid was very friendly and helpful. Service was good and the food delicious. We will definitely return.

Food was surprisingly good, menu was basic but well balanced. Cured salmon, steak, chocolate torte. However, we were in there for 3 hours, because service was so slow, at one point they admitted they had forgotten us. We were seated by a party so loud we had no way to talk for half our meal, apparently we couldn't be moved, despite many other tables. The whole experience left a pretty sour aftertaste.

Food was very average with all of the chips being over cooked and the bacon in the burger and mushroom being over cooked also. Staff friendly and very accommodating but disappointed with food.

We accompanied a elderly friend who was checking in for a mini break. All we wanted was a cup of tea and a slice of cake or maybe a scone. Staff ware not really bothered and just advised us that there was nothing to go with the tea ( weak and tasteless ) and the kitchen was closed until 6pm. It was now 4.30.Really thought they could have rustled something up for a guest who was staying for three days.

Not bad food for the money. Have been several times and its been consistent. Never been when its busy don't know if it ever does. You get sidelined when there is a function on. A shame as most at the function will never return. You should always look after your regulars as they will not return. There are plenty of eating places around so silly adopt this practice.

My husband and I had our wedding reception at the Spinnaker Hotel. The staff were friendly, helpful and went above and beyond to make our special day truly special. The food was absolutely amazing and the venue were extremely accommodating.

We went to the Spinnaker for a ladies lunch, there were quite a lot of us about 60 in total, the food a three course meal had all been preordered. The room where we ate was very pleasant, as was the food. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Was nervous if the roast was going too be as good as first time , Well it was, could not fault a single thing definitely will be returning.

We booked for a 3-course meal and Elton John tribute show. The food was excellent and we were very impressed by the way the event was organised. The lady in charge had a flair for making sure everything ran smoothly, and we felt welcome and relaxed from the moment we walked in.

Fabnastic Meal, the service was exemplary! Lovely, festive venue, tastefully decorated. Comfortable atmosphere, not too hot or too cold. The staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble for them! Will be booking again for next year without doubt!

After successfully trying out two of the three ‘Inns of Distinction’, and having a good time in both, we booked for dinner in their remaining one, the Spinnaker.

The food here was delicious. Try the black pudding!!!!! The rooms were also clean. Only not so nice thing was that one member of staff wasn't very helpful in the morning and just said I know nothing! Other than that, very good.

On a par with the best we have ever had . Staff warm and friendly. Yes was trimmed rolls with fillings egg mayo,smoked salmon,cheese and chicken.with a good selection of cakes dressed with fresh fruit.and scones with cream and jam.comments were made from other diners how good it looked,and it tasted that good.

We had surprise visitors and so decided to take advantage of the 2 for 1 Sunday roast offer. We hadn't visited before and were very impressed with the lovely, bright restaurant, which was full but still had plenty of space around the tables, making it nice to chat & relax.

What more can we say....we had the most perfect day hosting our entire wedding at The Spinnaker. From the first visit, Ashleigh was a fantastic wedding planner and this venue cannot be more recommend by us for any couple looking for a intimate, beautiful and moderately priced wedding. We honestly wouldn’t have changed a thing for all the money in the world though!
