The best Indian cuisine. Spotlessly clean. Friendly and courteous staff. Good variety of choice and staff knowledgeable about the food. Lovely decor. A real little gem. Thankyou Spice Valley, you should be proud of yourselves. Value for money.

We all had a wonderful time here. The food was outstanding and we all commented on the taste and quality of all our dishes. The naan breads were a thing of beauty, like fluffy clouds of delicious joy! Best I’ve ever had. Well done team Spice Mill.

Once again this restaurant didn’t disappoint. Fabulous meals and sundries all ready at the said time. My wife’s Sag Gosht was exceptional in her words and the tarka Dahl delicious. My home style chicken methi was tremendous- tasty, firey without being overpowering. Great food - thank you!

My wife and I were visiting our daughter who was staying in allanheads roughly ten miles from this restaurant and although it was a fair treck for us we decided to order a takeaway meal for the whole family. Good decision! We can fully recommend this establishment, the food we received was delicious in every aspect and at a very reasonable price. We'll done to the people that run and work there. Hopefully we will be able to enjoy your great cuisene another time.

Took some finding in the dark but well worth the effort. Had really excellent takeaway. As others have said this is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Allendale itself.

You can eat in or take away at this restaurant. Either way the food is great. Had a take away last night and it was splendid. If you are sitting in remember to take your own plonk as they’re not licenced. Recommended!

After an absence for over a year due to one reason and another it has been lovely to get re acquainted with the Spice Valley. Tonight the tarka Dahl was especially delicious. Lovely onion bahjis. Home style curry and prawn madras just right at hiccup hot. Good food and definitely recommend. Remember if you’re eating in to take your own booze!

We were holidaying in the area and stumbled across Spice Valley. The food was excellent, well cooked and very tasty in fact we ate the best peshwari naan we’ve ever had there. Staff were really friendly and attentive but not too attentive which was much appreciated. Restaurant is in a really interesting location and we will definitely go back if in the area, only wish we could pick it up and have it as our local restaurant. Would highly recommend.

The food and customer service here is excellent and very tasty. The original curry houses in the UK better known as 'Indian Restaurants' used to be over 95% Bengali owned and this Bengali / Bangladeshi Restaurant does not disappoint the food is authentic, tasty and delightful. Highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.

We dined in ,had a lovely atmosphere,host made us feel so welcome,food was fresh,delicious & very reasonably priced. No alcohol license but our host was more than happy for us to bring our own drink which made the meal even better value! Will definitely visit again

This is the second time we’ve had a takeaway and have to say we had excellent freshly cooked food on both occasions. The Onion Bajhi is just as you would want it to be crisp and light. I had Bhuna prawn on Puri couldn’t fault it.so lucky to have access to such a great takeaway in the Allen Valley.

We decided to order a takeaway from the Spice Valley as we were staying in Allendale. We are pescatarians and there was a good selection of dishes that we could order. The meal we ordered was ready on time, it was hot and most importantly it was delicious. The portion sizes were good… we definitely recommend it.

Great to find this Indian restaurant. We’ve only had take-aways but they’ve been excellent (and I used to live in Leicester, so I’ve very high standards!). Real parathas and chapatis, delicious lamb and an interesting paneer. Thank you!

This is a popular takeaway which also has tables. It happened that we were the only people dining in but this didn’t spoil or enjoyment at all as the service was friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. If only this were our local Indian restaurant! The tarka dhal and chapatis in particular were superb. The portions are generous but if you do over order, you can take home whatever you fancy of your leftovers.

First time here. Seriously good. Beats all the Indians I have had in many years... Garlic Chicken balti and Chicken pathia was my choice. With peshwari naan.

Excellent food; well worth seeking out. They don't have a drinks license, but don't charge corkage if you bring your own wine/beer. The restaurant isn't in the village itself, it's in a small complex which includes the Allendale brewery. Eat in, or they do takeaways.

We were taken here by friends who live nearby and were very impressed. The owner who also waits on table and the bar is a great character who will keep you well entertained while you wait for your wonderful freshly cooked curry dish to arrive....

Four of us turned up unannounced and were found a table. Served with a smile and very accommodating to a dietary requirement. Food was Excellent and there was a very varied menu. Highly recommended.

Booked a early table and was 100% happy with both the service and the food.To say this place is in a small village in the middle of the moors it should be proud of its food and the quality. Good value and they have Cobra and Kingfisher beer the perfect drink for your classic India meal.

We missed this eatery last October, made sure not to miss again.A very busy establishment, we booked and very glad we did as once seated people were being turned away due to high volume of orders. The food was exceptional, new dishes as well as more established fare. The quality and favours were above 5 star as was the service. It’s a little out of town but the food and service were excellent. For the fearless I recommend the chilli bhaji.

We are massive curry aficionados, we eat curry all over the country. This we felt was top 10, the starters especially were the best we’ve had, and the tarka daal best I’ve ever had. The curries are outstanding, all freshly cooked. Yes there is a long wait, not because they are catering to takeout which they do a lot of, but because they cook it fresh it seems to me. Outstanding curry, worth the wait and don’t worry about the slightly slow service!

A very nice meal for 4 - all dishes were well presented and delicious. Some interesting options not usual for the more typical curry restaurant. Very tasty and a fair bill. Recommended.

I get that a restaurant has to cater to its regulars. Take away customers you see every week need to be a priority, for sure, but if that comes at the great expense of other customers you need to figure out a better way. We waited nearly an hour for our appetizer, and another 15 minutes (with constant reminders to the staff that we were waiting) for our mains. There were two other tables in the restaurant and about 6 customers that picked up orders during that time - not exactly a crazy amount to justify the long wait.

Great selection of different dishes. The menu is surprisingly extensive. Food quality has consistently been high. Friendly and accommodating customer service. Definitely worth a visit.

The menu looked interesting & the food itself did not disappoint - the onion bhaji were so light & crisp. The Bhuna prawn on purée, new to me, was outstanding. We all had mains on the mild side which were flavourful & delicate. When visiting the area again I will be dining here for sure. The food did take a while to come but it shows they are making it from scratch, which is hard to fault.

On visiting the Allendale Smelt Mill site we were surprised to find an Indian restaurant in that location.The menu is extensive and included dishes we had never encountered before.The service is slow but the owner explained that each dish is freshly prepared and cooked for you.The meal was well worth the wait with the most unusual “pukura” starter so beautifully presented.As experienced curry eaters we chose from the special recommendations choosing:Chicken mushori ,Bindiya chicken and the Spice Mills Pasanda,all delicious accompanied by freshly prepared selection of naans.We noticed many people collecting their previously ordered meals and this would be a great idea for locals.A highly recommended restaurant with a charming,friendly owner it will do very well.

Hidden in a small industrial estate off a country lane found only by getting out of the car and following the smell of spices is a unit converted into a restaurant and take away. We ate from the takeaway menu which was a shame as the eat in menu had some interesting sounding dishes. The dishes were good if a bit heavy on the sauces , the onion bahji was the star dish, crisp tasty and not at all greasy.

I first had a takeaway from here a few months ago, i had to wait 10-15 minutes but put this down to bad luck. Tonight, i ordered a takeaway at 18:35. Went to pick it up at 19:45... after a 40 minute wait, it finally came out at 20:25, only to get it home and realise a dish was missing. I think they maybe had trouble catching the chicken for my bhuna!

After reading positive reviews for this place, we were excited to eat here. The decor was pleasant and service prompt. However, I was sadly disappointed by the food, after a browse through the menu, both my wife and I selected different dishes from the recommendation section of the menu. Both, promising exciting spiced flavours, they were very bland and lacked any real taste. I ordered a garlic blended dish, but the lumps of garlic in the meal were the only bit of any flavour in the dish. It would not be an exaggeration to say we have had more flavour from a patak’s curry jar.

The Spice Mill (formerly the Mill Tandoori) has recently introduced a new, different menu. Old favourites be were still available but there is now a much wider choice, including some dishes we had never come across before! The food was delicious, the welcome as warm as ever and we had a lovely evening. Only the fact that the restaurant was pretty quiet on a Friday evening, with little atmosphere, prevents us giving five stars!

We had eaten in this restaurant under the previous owners and never been disappointed.

Food excellent. Had takeaway for 16 people, food lively, absolutely no complaints. Guy even carried the bags to the car for us. Definately recommend.

Ordered a takeaway for 14 of us who were caravanning in Allendale. The order was not a simple one but it was organised in 8 separate bags and everything was correct. The food itself was fantastic, and the portions huge. This was one of the best Indian meals I have had and would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant. Cant wait to go back.

My wife and I visited the restaurant and were made to feel very welcome. We ordered four poppadoms with pickles (the tamarind pickle is to die for). We then had prawn starter stuffed in a pepper and a mixed kebab starter. Both were absolutely fantastic. We followed this up with a chicken balti and a house fish curry. My wife is a good judge of Indian food and ordered a balti which is always a good measure of the standard of food being served. I opted for the fish dish which was recommended to us by the waiter. Both dishes were fantastic and flavoursome. We washed it all down with a chillean Sauvignon Blanc which was reasonably priced. We also had a mushroom rice to share. The total meal was £52 including drinks which given the standard of food was great value. We will definitely visit again and if urge you to give it a try if you are in the area.

We were staying at Limestone Brae and someone recommended this restaurant so I phoned and placed an order for collection. Bit of a wait for it to be got ready but wroth the wait - tasty samosa's and bhaji's to start. My partner had a lamb dupiaza whilst I tried something new to me (and unique to this restaurant I think?), home style chicken which was fairly hot and hence suited my palate. I eat and cook a lot of curry and this was one of the best I've had. If I lived nearer I would almost certainly try the home style beef curry and the shatkora chicken next time. The restaurant was lovely and the guy waiting in and taking payment very friendly and helpful. Recommend they update their website / facebook with menu etc. as information was hard to find and its in an out of the way location. A gorgeous meal.

Decided to order a take away last night, rang the Spice Mill (formerly the Mill Tandoori) but their phone was engaged. As I only live 5 minutes away I drove down to place my order and waited the 30 minutes for a sumptuous chicken biryani, samosa and onion bahji meal with plain naan. Their tamarind dip for the samosas has to be their signature item on the menu. The Mill has recently changed hands and is going from strength to strength. I recommend a visit soon!

The food in this place is excellent. Freshly cooked by someone who clearly knows what they're doing. I'd go through what we had but that'd be boring so I'll summarise by saying that everyone at our table was very pleased with what they had. There were some fussy eaters in our party but all were pledging to return. The notable star was the tandoori mixed grill or tandoori royal as it's called here.

Food was nice when we got it eventually. Table was booked for 8:15 but we didn't even receive any poppadoms until 10pm. I appreciate it was a Saturday night and I can accept a wait for food at busy times but atleast if we'd received poppadoms to nibble on it can buy half an hour. We had to ask for them after over an hour wait. We were greatful that these were taken off the bill aswell as a free bottle of wine but it was difficult to converse with the waiting staff. I understand the restaurant has been recently taken over but it has a long way to go to reach the levels of their other restaurant in Hexham. All meals were tasty and good quality but the time waited and average service kind of spoilt the experience. Just seemed to lack any management on our visit. I hope they find their feet but on this visit their is much room for improvement.

Waited over an hour for a pre ordered takeaway, the order was incorrect when checked at home and cost £4 more than ordering in Hexham!

Got a takeaway from here for the first time at the end of February. It was under new management and apparently they were "experimenting" with the recipes. The food was good - a little pricier than our usual takeaway but tastier as well. Whilst ordering I was also asked if we had any allergies, which I've never been asked about before. Recommended and we will be ordering from them again.

Visited The Mill Tandoori with my parents for a family meal. Was advised on arrival that the restaurant had recently been taken over and was under New Managment. Fantastic service and excellent food - will definitely return again and would highly recommend.

This place is a jewel. We have eaten in and had take away and the food and service are fantastic. Who would think that you could get great Indian food in a small place like Allendale! But you definitely can.

5 of us went for a family meal, the staff are so friendly and welcoming. The food is the best Indian food you'll get, more than average portions, 2 big men in our group who were absolutely stuffed by the time we left. The food was piping hot & obviously freshly cooked. My two daughters got shashlik chicken skewers which came on a sizzling plate with onions & peppers, don't let the word skewers fool you, it's not what we expected, the plate was massive, this comes highly recommended. They sell soft drinks but you take your own alcohol, glasses provided & they'll open your beer & cork your wine. So, 2 starters, 5 mains, 4 rice, poppadoms, 2 naans, 3 deserts, 3 coffees, 5 pints of Diet Coke £102, that's £20pp. I defy anyone to find this quality food anywhere near here.

Had 2 dishes from Home Curries section of menu. We both enjoyed them, made with fresh spices. Much better than your regular take away or restaurant. Fresh light popadums and delicious breads.

What a shame this restaurant didn't continue as it started out a few years back. Then, the food was truly superb and cooked on site with the tenderest of meat. After a few months the staff number dropped and food presented as something "shipped in". Dishes like Saag Ghost are very dry and stodgy. The Keema Nanns dry with a very small dollop of meat hiding in one corner.

We often get a takeaway from The Mill ,its always really nice and freshly prepared and they are very helpful if you want to alter any dish on the menu , the staff are always friendly too ,try the Home style king prawn curry ,its so nice !!

The food here is the best in the area in terms of Indian restaurants or takeaways. The meals are all very tasty, and made freshly as you can see into the kitchen. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

My partner, who lived in the middle-east for many years and has visited India on several occasions, always complains that the food served in British Indian restaurants is over-sweetened. I usually find it ok - until tonight !! I ordered a takeaway of butter chicken and found it so sweet as to be almost inedible. Her tikka masala was exactly the same and both dishes left us with a horrible sickly aftertaste. Had we been eating in the restaurant we would have sent the food back without hesitation. We will not use this restaurant again.

Couldn't believe our luck when we found this restaurant yards from our new caravan. Where else can you be surrounded by the fabulous Northumbrian countryside and have a fabulous Tandoori restaurant on your doorstep? The staff are exceptional and remembered our names from our very first visit demonstrating a tremendous level of personal service. The food is exquisite. I like a hot and flavoursome curry so would recommend any of the dishes form the 'home style; section of the menu (I've tried them all). My husband who likes a slightly milder curry loves the Sag Ghost. Once tried you will just want to go here again and again!

We stayed at a local B&B; and were recommended to try The Mill. It's in a small industrial complex that's being re-developed - The décor was simple but very welcoming and the service was friendly and attentive without being claustrophobic. We enjoyed our Lamb Pathia and Chicken Shashlik. Excellent food and generous portions at a sensible price.

We opted for the takeaway, as we had our dog with us. We got four different meals, all were very tasty and plentiful. Would definitely give it a go if you're in the area. It's about one mile out of Allendale town.

This is out of the village but was recommended by our landlady and boy was she right. Cheery, friendly, knowledgeable staff who kept us right with the extensive menu. We like our curries and enjoy trying new dishes - full marks for this delicious meal. The restaurant is small, but decor is fresh and welcoming. It was early in the week, so the place was quiet, although there were folk in for takeaways.

Lovely surroundings, lovely meal and attentive staff. The food was extra tasty and slightly unusual. Great for a change of taste. If we lived locally we would visit regularly, so the locals are very lucky! Had a nice chat with the chef too.

We booked a table for 9.30 on New Year's Eve thinking it would give us plenty of time to enjoy the spectacular celebrations in Allendale how wrong we were , they were so short staffed we eventually ate at 11.20 the food was lovely but if they had phoned us to explain the situation we would not of gone , we had to hunt for our own cutlery as did others ,some people had been waiting from 8.30 till 10.45 for food !! And we saw one couple leave without eating .

the food was great especially the fish dish. however waiting nearly an hour for a drink and 2 hours for the food was unacceptable. Staff were pleasant but disorganised. i would go again but only at a time when i could be sure they would not be busy.

I am a curry fan and this restaurant is very good indeed. It is a bit more expensive than most other Indian restaurants I have visited but it is definitely worth it. Beautiful.

We have frequented the Mill's takeaway service numerous times since its opening. Each time it's been fantastic. A taste session incompatible with anything else in the area. They're streets ahead.
