Great little spot. Passed it for years being a truck driver. Finally had the chance to call in , and I was not disappointed. Fantastic food made to ur desire spice level. Great beverages. Welcoming staff (baring in mind I'm a trucker that works with pigs). Highly recommended and can't wait to return myself

Enter and take a place only if you're going to agree to what they want in terms of minimum order. The place is only to have full course else they don't serve. If someone wants to have some starter and drinks, this is not the place. Very poor hospitality, and they behave as if anyone has entered the restaurant for the first time in life. Hospitality is pathetic and sense of staff is simply very poor. Never enter this place. A few staffs from India's neighbouring country doing business in the name of India making India look bad.

Please enter if you know the difference between a restaurant and takeaway. As per the staff restaurant only serves main courses and no starters. Also, your appetite will be decided by the restaurant. Pathetic behaviour not expected….

This is the best food I’ve ever had in an Indian restaurant. There is something for everyone with a large selection including choices I’ve never seen elsewhere and the quality is excellent. Portions are quite large and would fill even someone with a large appetite. The staff are very friendly and helpful and always greet you with a smile. They seem to be very popular with the locals as the takeaway service is also very busy. It’s easily accessible in my wheelchair with plenty of room around the tables.

Good Lord, what a meal! Haven't been for ages, I arrived with happy memories of the tandoori woodpigeon starter. Alas, I didn't see it on offer this time. Nonetheless, enough variety across the menu allow diversion from the usual bhajis and curries. Chole Aur Kaju Chat first then Lamb Baoli Handi with Onion Pilau and Garlic Naan. Amazing. Never had better. Anywhere. My three companions were also similarly impressed with their food. And our server, Abdul, was a joy too. Our next visit will not be too far away.

Had a fabulous chicken dansak, nut pilau and Keema naan. Everything was super fresh, lots of tender chicken, everything loaded with flavour, not too saucy, attentive service without feeling like you’re being rushed. Been here many times but never gave a review. Time to fix that! My all time favourite sit-down Indian meal in the Morpeth area.

First time for us to visit Char Mausum and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Service was excellent and the food was fantastic. Best chicken pathia I’ve had. Everything was fresh and full of mixed flavours. 10/10 all round and can’t fault anything 👍

Had a meal there last night with my wife and thought the food and service was fantastic. Everything was very tasty and fresh and in plentiful portions. The place was full when we arrived which is a good sign of their reputation. First time there and will definitely be returning.

The curry I had for my main course was probably one of the greatest I’ve ever eaten. It was from their house specials and whilst heat came from fresh peppers it met the perfect biting point of flavour. Also I don’t often have chips on the side but the table next to us had some and they looked amazing and didn’t disappoint! Wonderful Indian restaurant and can’t wait for my second visit.

Just moved into the area and absolutely chuffed to have this place round the corner. Best takeaway curry I’ve had in a long time.

Following a round trip up north including a house move we were keen to find somewhere good to eat. We weren’t disappointed. I’m no expert on Indian food however everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. Lovely ambiance and friendly service. We shall be back soon.

Chicken tikka Jalfrezi, mushroom pilau. 3rd time I’ve had this and everyone has been good value for money. There are cheaper restaurants in the area but in my opinion non as good

Best local Indian, great food staff are okay

This is our second time dinning at this restaurant and all I can say we were impressed each time. Each time we visit the area we generally eat at a Indian restaurant in Sunderland but we wanted somewhere closer. After trying several other restaurants, the Char Mausum has impressed us. We will definitely use this restaurant again.

First time I've visited Char will definitely not be the last, went with friends who live in Morpeth.. Food was delicious and well presented..tasted fantastic, I had chicken tikka starter, lamb jalfrezi.. Very well flavoured and great portion sizes 5*

Fabulous food. I had gorgeous tender lamb in a savoury spicy sauce with baby potatoes. Stunning. My friend had enormous tandoori king prawns in a jalfrezi style sauce with red peppers and tomatoes. We had keema pilau rice, peshawar naan, and some tarka dahl. Everything was superb. I had a clutzy moment and spilled my drink. Two chaps rushed over, mopped up, replaced my drink and were so kind. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Superb food, lovely people. Absolutely worth the drive out to Stannington. Excellent.

Very slow service. We couldn’t order our food until the table next to us had placed an order. Fair enough they were in before us, but they were dithering and couldn’t make up their minds. Food no better than standard fare. Don’t get these 5 star ratings ☹️

Used this restaurant for years and it's always been fabulous. Sadly the last few meals have been very poor, greasy, bland, lukewarm food. After the 4th poor meal decided we won't be returning any time soon.

Recommended by a friend so when my brother was on a visit we gave it a try. The food is indeed superb and well worth driving out to Stannington. I high recommended the Chat Mausum. Best to book at the weekend.

Takeaway was swimming in oil, the cod main was instantly smelly, which indicates the fish was not fresh, other mains we ordered were exactly the same, swimming in oil and very unappealing. We were disgusted and demanded a refund of the almost £60 we spent, we have yet to receive a partial refund as agreed. Disgusting.

Mostly great food (as usual) We have had takeaway's for many years. We decided to eat in as it was 'special'. We waited over an hour before our order was taken. Takeaway's were obviously taking priority, so we went back to takeaway/collections. On Saturday 19th I placed an order by phone, and drove to collect it, turning up 10 mins early. At the agreed collection time 25 past, 3 people were ahead of me (understandable) they were all served & and I expected mine shortly. The waiter apologised saying that my food would be delayed 5 to 10 minutes and offered a soft drink. My food came out of the kitchen 20 minutes after the time I was given Whe I got home I sadly discovered most of the dishes were luke warm and the naan bread was cold. I can only assume that most of the order was ready on time and so it was allowed to sit while the remaining items were prepared. Of course I could not come back from coopies lane area to ask for better service but I hope for better service next time Hope this was a one off See you again

Had very nice Veg Rogan Josh the first time we went but the second time it was too salty and Biryiani was underseasoned. Staff vary in their pleasantness.

A car ride away but worth the effort. At the side of the A1, many years ago, a Little Chef. Staff are very helpful and friendly, nothing is a bother. Starters and main meals were good. Car park behind. If you want fast service, go to McDonald's, or just learn to chill out while you wait.

Visited on Monday night and once again the food was excellent and the staff polite and friendly as ever. For starters I had onion bhaji which was crisp and tasty whilst my wife had Chicken chaat which came in a generous portion and in her words was delicious. For mains I opted for Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi which was fantastic with Egg Pilau and Garlic / Keema nan and washed it down with Cobra which they have on draught, whilst my wife went for Chicken Tikka Masala with peas pilau. The food was well presented, with good portions, and tasted excellent. Without a doubt this is the best Indian Restaurant in Morpeth and surrounding areas and long may it continue.

Good food, good value, well presented and well cooked. Went on the off chance early on a Saturday and got a table, despite it being packed. There must have been at least 30 takeaways collected whilst we were there. Service was good, although a lot of people were getting flustered. Manager came over to thank us for waiting patiently, it was no hardship. He then explained at 19:46 he had to give the staff twenty minutes off to eat as it was Ramadan. Those twisting should reflect ……

Char Mausum is by far the finest Indian restaurant in the areas of Morpeth and Stannington. A tadge on the expensive side compared to others but the quality of the food is first class. Muhammad runs a great team here. Polite. Courteous staff who always go the extra mile to please. I take pleasure in stating I’m a regular especially for the takeaway aspect and to be honest would be reticent in going anywhere else.

Went with friends who recommended it to us in the beginning. It was a Monday night so the restaurant was very quiet but it was clean, nicely decorated and welcoming. The menu is extensive so you do feel a bit bamboozled as to what to have but as it was the first Indian meal we'd had in over a year, I opted for chicken dansak which is my favourite. Hubby had a biryani and our friends had a paneer speciality and a tandoori dish. We had naan bread and a couple of sides including bhajis. My dansak was one of the best I've ever had. The bhajis were delicious. I found the pickles and yoghurt dishes that come with the poppadoms were a bit small between 4 but they did offer to bring more. I cannot fault the taste of the food at all and it was all piping hot. Prices were reasonable, especially at the moment & I will definitely be returning & I will most certainly be recommending it. The toilet was also very clean. Thank you Char Mausum. 😋

Has to be the best quality Indian Cuisine in the area , we have tried others over the years but nothing compares to Chat Mausum to be honest , if you haven't tried them before you are missing a real treat .

Had high hopes for char mausum after being recommended by several friends. On arrival it didn't seem overly busy butwe were left waiting in the corner way past our booking time and no one told us what was happening (At one stage, we thought we had been forgotten about while customers came in to collect their takeaway) We were shown to our table after a lengthy wait but then waited over 20mins for someone to take our drinks order and 45 minutes for food. Once our food arrived, mine seemed a little bland, but my husband absolutely loved his. We will go back and try Char Mausum again and probably choose a different time, so we miss the takeaway rush hour. I'm sure we will then be able to give the full 5 stars. Other friends and family have rated them.

Been a while since I last left a review, again top quality take away. Vindaloo Chicken Tikka for me spot on, wife had King Prawn Jalfrezi just 1 prawn short to make it exceptional. Highly recommend this place and the staff are great whether it's a take away or sit in.

A large group of us visited about 14 of us, All of our food was very nice, although the service was a little bit slow with beers, but all the food came out correct and together. The starters were very tasty and quite a variety, crab, duck, the tandoori lamb chops and of course the classic mixed kebab starter, all went down a treat. The main courses were all very pleasant, although they were a little caution not to over spice the dishes, so even one chilli on the menu was still quite mild, it’s a great place, nice curry house. We would definitely eat here again. And would recommend it. It’s a shame they don’t do Thursday or Sunday nights specials, as well love good curry at a bargain price

We visited the restaurant having not eaten in for a while. It was busy for a Monday night and had a good atmosphere. The food and service was excellent. Staff were as friendly as ever. There was So much food we asked for it to be boxed to take home, which was done without question. Very tasty and good value for money.

Wine glasses removed n cutlery before we even said if we wanted wine and what places we wanted to sit at. No atmosphere some music or something maybe would be nice n less awkward , also a bit too warm inside puts u off eating some air con would be good. My wife and I returned to Northumberland for a short visit recently where we lived for many years, I stumbled across the Char Mausum whilst scouring Google maps for an Indian restaurant, at very short notice Mohamed the owner fitted us in on a busy Saturday evening, and how lucky we were, the food was absolutely delicious, there’s a very unusual and varied menu to choose from. I started with the Allo Tikki a sort of spicy patty as a starter and had the Hyderabadi lamb keema masala as my main course with onion rice, a dish that I have never come across at any of the hundreds of Indian restaurants I have eaten at around the world. The whole experience was so enjoyable I have booked for September when I will be returning with some golfing pals from the London and Manchester areas.

Recently returned to Northumberland with my wife where we used to live for many years, it was my birthday during our stay so decided to find an Indian restaurant to celebrate the occasion, after scouring Google maps and Tripadvisor came across the Char Mausum which was a short drive from our hotel. Mohamed the owner very kindly fitted us in on busy Saturday evening and we both enjoyed a truly wonderful meal. There is a varied menu with many dishes I have not seen in the hundreds of Indian restaurants I have eaten at worldwide. I started with Aloo Tikki a sort of spicy potato patty as my starter and went for the Hydrabadi keema masala with onion pilau for the main course, they were both superb. I was that impressed with the cuisine I have booked a table for myself and five very discerning golfing pals of mine from London and Manchester to fit in with our September stay in Northumberland.

A good meal here as usual but not 5* as my wife's main course lacked spiciness & was not particularly hot (temperature), everyone else had a fine meal. A good night out & excellent service. Update 13 07 2022. An excellent meal full of flavour & very good service on a busy evening.

We stopped off at this restaurant on our way home from our Farne island tour, we were not disappointed.The food was so tasty, good size portions and very good table service. Staff were seen sanitising often and toilets were very clean, couldn't fault this place.
