Haveli in Northumberland

The meals didn't match the description. The essence of a Dansak is that sour/sweet taste. Their version has no pineapple and a sludgy consistency. The worst attempt at a Dansak I've ever had in sixty years. My wife's bhuna again didn't taste like a bhuna. That subtle aromatic flavour was missing and again the consistency was sludge. I've had better curries from supermarket ready-meal. Was the chef on holiday ? How on earth can this establishment have so many good reviews when they serve duds like this ? A mystery.

First time eating at this restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful , the surroundings were immaculate, and the food was outstanding . The best Indian restaurant I've ever eaten in . We will be back. The lamb chops are a must have very tender snd succulent.

We went with some friends between Christmas & New Year. Haven’t been to the restaurant for a while but have enjoyed an occasional take away. The menu is lovely & we all thoroughly enjoyed our starters & mains. Good drinks menu & attentive, welcoming service. Highly recommend.

Nice food but exactly the same problem as on a previous visit, which I wrote about.. The bill was grossly inflated: included the correct cost of the set meals and drinks + extra side, but additionally included cost of all the dishes individually! Manager apologetic when pointed out to him. Once making this error is annoying. Twice leads me to think it is something more.

Haveli set unique standards when it opened about 11 years ago and has, with the very occasional inexplicable blip, maintained these very high standards ever since, We were attracted by the Christmas menu this week and believe that our decision to sample it was possibly the best decision we have made this year, insofar as dining is concerned, a year when we have been privileged to enjoy meals in several very highly regarded British hotels and restaurants. The Christmas menu is extensive, including five courses compared with three on its excellent Signature Menu and costing only a remarkably reasonable £6 more. Our meal was certainly value for money. A fine selection of wines and beers is also a feature. The welcome we received was warm and the service very efficient and friendly. We believe that it would not have been possible to have a more enjoyable evening anywhere snd would encourage any one who enjoys excellent food in comfortable surroundings to book a table at Haveli.

The food at Haveli is really really good and although Michelin is mentioned it’s not Michelin prices. The only thing is that it seems to be a best kept secret and it’s often very quiet which is a shame given the food is excellent. Go, you won’t be disappointed. Parking outside is free and it’s a great location if you just want a good Indian meal. We had the 5 course meal for 39.95 per person and it’s excellent value, no stinting on portions and genuine enquiries as to the taste and flavour.

The food here is so good, well balanced, good choice and beautifully cooked. Staff are very attentive. Well worth a visit.

Highly recommended. Polite and helpful staff as ever. A small range of menu items - in their case this is not a weakness! We visited near Xmas and don't realise that there would only be the fixed price Xmas menu. This could be better communicated on booking a table and on seating? The dishes are well judged and well cooked. Haveli is a cut above a lot of other establishments, meat used was great quality. Very flavourful. Only slight issue was an excessively long wait at the end for ice cream - 25/30 minutes! All the other food arrived promptly, and was fantastic.

Went there a few weeks back with a group of friends. Everything was great - the space and decor, the welcoming nature of the staff, choice and quality of food and drinks, the speed of service. Our experience couldn't have been better. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a good (actually great) restaurant in Newcastle area.

Just returned home from our 1st visit to Haveli and we were very impressed. The food was delicious, the service was very excellent and the atmosphere was good. We will definitely be returning!

Recently dined at Haveli Ponteland and enjoyed every dish we had in particular the starter Burra lamb chops, absolutely tender lamb with authentic Indian herbs, simply delicious. Great service with attention to detail on presentation yet serving mouthwatering tasty food. We will be returning very soon

Everytime we've dined at Haveli, the food has always been exceptional. The lamb chops and seekh kebabs were succulent, flavourful, and perfectly spiced. For those who prefer milder options, the butter chicken and dal makhani were rich, creamy, and full of authentic flavours. The menu has something for everyone making it ideal for a family meal. The kids loved the butter chicken, and we all enjoyed the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were attentive and made sure we had a wonderful experience. If you're a fan of authentic Indian food, this place is an absolute must-visit.

One of the best India food restaurants I have been to. We usually don’t go to Indian restaurants due to authenticity at home vs restaurants. But Havel was fabulous. Every dish was delicious and authentic especially Lamb chops were so soft and yummy. The decor was also very nice, clean, specious and bright. Very family friendly staff and ambiance.

Had a biryani main dish. I thought it was is a bit "dry", I wish it came with some sort of sauce, you could optionally add to the meal. The lamb meat was very nicely cooked.

This restaurant we've been several times before. Tonight was so special for our anniversary and unbeknown to us they sprung a surprise desert on us. So grateful for the celebration but the night with these people was more than that. Food exceptional, staff so pleasant and eager to please their guests. Can't thank them enough for such a memorable meal. Don't hesitate to go, you will love it as much as we do.

Faultless meal with delicious food and ideal service.

Our table was booked for 8pm and having visited before we were looking forward to our meal. First impressions were that the restaurant was very busy with the staff rushing around looking flustered. We were seated and it took some time for our drinks order to be taken. We asked for two beers and a jug of water. ( the water didn’t arrive) There was then a further delay for our food order to be taken. After waiting for 45 minutes our starter had still not arrived . We enquired and after about 10 minutes it arrived. Throughout this time we were observing that most diners were not eating but just simply waiting and looking around to see when their meals might arrive ! Some diners had left but the staff did not have the time to clear the tables which were just left- not a good impression. The staff were all young and there didn’t appear to be anyone with senior experience taking control of the situation. They were very polite but it wasn’t their fault . No sign of the manager. The phone was ringing takeaways were being given out but where was our meal ? It was now 9.45 and by this time we were no longer hungry so we asked how much longer our main course would be. We enquired to a more senior staff member when our meal would arrive he seemed to be ‘flapping’ and after visiting the kitchen told us maybe 🤔 5-10 minutes. At the point we stood up and advised him that we were leaving another couples of ladies who were seated close by then did the same. The manager seemed unconcerned and didn’t make eye contact. We were going to pay for our starters but then decided we wouldn’t bother ! We felt a bit awkward with our decision to leave but the whole experience was totally unacceptable and we felt that we had done the right thing . Needless to say we won’t be going back.!

The worst service I have ever experienced in a uk restaurant, in so much walked out without paying. Had to wait 1 hour before starter arrived and that was after complaining, then waited a further 45 minutes before I asked for our main meal. Then they couldn’t say how long it would be. At no point any apology and they manager just ignored us. Other people were having similar problems and others just walked out in keeping with ourselves. Not enough staff and evidently not organised, felt sorry for young waiters.

disappointing food. Lacked flavour and spice despite asking for extra. The Currys were too watery for my taste. Lamb chops were an excellent bit of meat but again lacking flavour The service was great, and the decor nice but you can find a better curry elsewhere.

Haveli serves good food with great service, though not the best I’ve had. The lamb chops starter could have been much better, and for the price, I expected a bit more. It’s a nice spot, but I’m not sure it’s worth the money.

This is hands down the nicest curry I have ever had. So fresh and the flavours are just insane. I’m so glad I have haveli in my life. Highly recommended chicken tikka bhuna & the butter chicken.

I dine regularly in Haveli and have done so since it opened even enjoying takeaway meals during lockdown. The food is, invariably, of a very high standard, reasonably priced, but its service is not as slick currently as it was when Atul, Mahendra, David, Bryn and the outstanding Anul worked there, so be prepared to wait to be served by its friendly, welcoming staff. You will not be disappointed no matter your tastes; this is a superior Asian restaurant, not a ‘curry house’. I will return frequently in the future. If you have not yet been I would advise you to repair this omission before long.

Very slow service, food very bland. Not recommended

Made a 25 mile round trip to this restaurant this evening to purchase takeaway food which we have done so several times before. We didn’t try to order in advance as their system is too difficult to use and they rarely answer the phone. When we arrived we didn't want the food straight away so the plan was to place the order for an hour or so later. Unfortunately we didn’t get to opportunity to explain this as we were swiftly told they were too busy to serve us at 7pm. We were totally gobsmacked at the negative attitude of the staff member and the fact that they were happy to turn away a paying customer. The restaurant had a number of customers inside but by no means did it look that busy. As a fellow Ponteland restauranteur we were shocked to be treated in this couldn’t care less manner. Had one of our staff treated a customer in this way they would no longer be employed by us. Very surprised and disappointed in the way we as potential customers were treated. We will not be back.

Good food but AVOID if you have a dietary allergy. We arranged a celebration event at the venue and during this discussions, we stressed multiple times that a member of our family has a severe nut allergy. We were reassured that extra care would be taken to eliminate any cross contamination and were told not to worry. I even stressed this point again on the morning of the event and was told to relax and enjoy my day. Unfortunately my doubts turned out to be to true and said member of the family had an allergic reaction to the food which came soon after the event finished. I got in contact with the owner to raise this and after “an investigation” was told “a nut-free cross contamination, could not be guaranteed”. Deeply disappointed by not only the lack of care but the handling of this afterwards.

Attentive and friendly staff, good choice, food full of flavour. And a welcoming, enjoyable atmosphere. Lots of choice in the area and we hadn't visited for a long time, but won't leave it that long again.

Have been here a few times the food and the service are exceptional, they also deliver locally. Try the meat platter starter it's absolutely delish. I have tried a few things on the menu and have yet to find a dish I've not been impressed with really reasonably priced too. Worth booking for weekends.

We used Haveli to do the private catering for a small family celebration. The food was delicious and all of the guests commented upon how good it was. It was delivered piping hot and on time and special diets were catered for. We particularly enjoyed having more unusual dishes on offer, rather than the more typical curries. Portions were generous too.

Good curry and nice atmosphere, service initially a bit delayed but then improved. The location is good and the parking was easy (on a Wednesday evening). Overall a good experience.

Been a while since we’ve been to Haveli. Unfortunately this will be the last time. Just slop in a pot. Too many good places to go, so won’t be back..

We had a lovely meal at this restaurant. The food was of very good quality and the service was excellent. Our first experience dining here wasn’t so positive as it took a long time to get food served to us as the restaurant was very busy. However, the second time was a lot more positive and they provided the meal at no charge to us! Excellent customer service and great atmosphere, thank you very much Haveli!

It was our first time here as we just moved nearby and it had a Michelin recommendation. We were greeted warmly by the very nice reception lady, seated promptly and given a drinks menu, 25 mins later a waiter appeared and ordered our drinks and gave us the food menu. 30 mins later the drinks arrived with another waiter.So one hour nearly for first drink. We ordered three of the set menus from yet another waiter. A portion of popadoms for one or max two arrived by another waiter, we asked and were given more. An hour later mains were served, with only a tiny bowl of rice for three of us ( ample naan bread though). One of the curries was nearly cold, the others luke warm. No one asked us how our food was or if we wanted anything throughout the meal, drinks and water were not refilled or enquired after.The service was simply awful, we had several waiters so did not know who to ask for anything and everyone avoided looking at you or the table. At one point we deliberately accumulated a number of unused bottles and glasses at the corner of the table to see if they might be taken away, they were ignored.I have never seen or endured such bad service, the manager even went so far to explain that tiny rice servings were normal! I attach a pic. We will never return.Awful service, moderate food , not cheap.

Beautiful decor, spotlessly clean. Food was delicious and presentation was amazing. Service was fast and efficient. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Cocktails were lovely. Lots of veggie options. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely recommend.

Best Indian food in the Newcastle area - nothing like a typical curry house. Book online to select your time for eating: despite what the online booking form says, you do not need to order your food selections in advance. Staff excellent, but head waiter on this visit lacked charm. Food and drink is reasonably priced, but check your bill carefully. On this occasion, the deposit I had paid was not deducted from the bill. Querying this brought no apology from the head waiter who seems uninterested in customers. On a previous visit, my bill included all the items we had ordered but also added the cost of a set meal for two! Don't be put off by that - go and enjoy.

We had been to Haveli on previous visits and the food and service where exceptional this time however I was really disappointed with the service in the restaurant the staff did not seem to be trained at all although they were polite. We ordered drinks prior to the meal and they took ages to appear. We ordered food and this was very tasty but I find it difficult to believe that one small bowl of rice would suffice two people we ordered another which came straight away which was good. We ordered wine with the meal and this was not acknowledged the head waiter came again to ask what wine we had ordered when it arrived the waiter simply put it on the table and said there’s your wine . I was very surprised that he didn’t open the wine and offer a taste but by this time I just accepted that this was now the normal. In our last visit this restaurant was deemed Michelin star but I noticed on the way out it wasn’t one star anymore which I now understand the reason why. Sorry Haveli but I feel you have become complacent and that now shows.

Absolutely amazing meal here! One of the best Indian meals we’ve ever had. Beautiful flavours, gorgeous tastes and amazing cocktails. We really recommend the cauliflower rice which is so different, no where else does it! And also the butter chicken. Service was also brilliant which is always a plus. Our new favourite!

Excellent all round. Maintaining (and exceeding!) the high standards of Tyneside Indian Restaurants which for over 70 years have enhanced the local cuisine. This is one of the best restaurant experiences I have had recently, a credit to the creative management and chefs and the caring expertise of the diligent staff team. We were sat at a badly scratched table & handed grubby menus that needed a wipe. The food arrived, which was mediocre at best. Ladies’ loo without a lock with overflowing bin. Also, another overflowing bin visible behind the bar. Poppadoms good. Beautiful restaurant. Attentive staff.

My wife and I went to Haveli restaurant Ponteland last night for a Valentine's evening. This included a special valentine tasting menu. The food was fantastic, we ate and enjoyed everything on our table. They have a fantastic wine menu, part of which is a selection of low alcohol wines. The restaurant has recently been awarded a Michelin BIB award last week. The staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The price was very reasonable and on arrival we both received a glass of prosecco and my wife received a red rose. We'll definitely be going back and I strongly recommend that if you're local or in the area to give it a visit. 5 star.

My wife and I went to a valentine's evening at Haveli Ponteland last night. On arrival my wife and I were given a glass of prosecco each on arrival and my wife got a red rose. There was a special valentine tasting menu. The food was fantastic and my wife and I ate and enjoyed everything on the menu, of which there was 4 courses. My wife really enjoyed the wine selection, there was a choice of low alcohol wines which she thoroughly enjoyed. Haveli have just been awarded a prestigious Michelin BIB award. The service was fantastic with nothing too much for the friendly staff. We will be going again and I would advise anybody that lives locally or are in the area to go along and eat there. I recently had the unfortunate experience of trying some Indian dishes , and I must say it was one of the most disappointing culinary experiences I've had in a long time.

Food outstanding 😋. Best meats used and drinks and cocktail fabulous 😍 10% surcharged is already on your total bill never asked to agree to it and always left a cash tip on top. But now I know .

This similarity was unexpected and could be disappointing for those anticipating diverse flavors. Individuals seeking an authentic Indian culinary experience may find themselves let down.

Absolutely loved the experience. You can tell it’s real food and good for you. I felt uplifted after eating there and wanted to run home I had so much energy. I know it’s sounds odd, but I always eat real food and can tell if I’ve eaten real food or processed stuff. I’ll be back.

Amazing lamb rack starter, then we had a prawn and chicken dish which were both very flavoursome. Would highly recommend and the staff were very helpful and friendly too.

Our suspicions started when the restaurant was less than half full on a Saturday evening. The service was appalling, we waited over 40 min for starters and only compensated with replenished popadoms with no dips offered. We waited 15min for drinks and when it finally arrived, we had to send the cocktail back to be remade because it was bland. A fresh cocktail was not made. When the cocktail returned, it contained less contents than what was sent back. We had to ask for more drinks whilst 4-5 staff stood vacantly staring into space around the restaurant. The food was average and not worth £45pp. Reading other comments my understanding this place has collapsed since new ownership and become a distance memory of a good place to eat.

I recently dined at Haveli Restaurant and had a fantastic experience. The Indian cuisine they serve is top-notch, and the quality of the food was outstanding. The flavors were rich and authentic, and I particularly enjoyed Lamb Chops. The ambiance was pleasant, and the staff provided excellent service. I highly recommend Haveli for a delightful Indian dining experience.

This is such a shame as we want our local India restaurant to be good but it’s overpriced and below standard for service. The restaurant itself is not traditionally Indian and more like a canteen environment. Unbelievably the staff are lovely but don’t seem to have any idea about customer service and stand around looking vacant, even when you have no drinks! The food isn’t actually bad, I’m not saying it’s great but it’s edible and not greasy, the issue is that I feel it’s expensive and doesn’t wow you. The best thing I can say about this place is that it’s the best Indian in Ponteland, although this isn’t a huge compliment as the competition is complete rubbish. I don’t think we will come back any time soon, we would prefer to pay extra for a taxi and go to Jashn in Swalwell, you can’t beat it.

The restaurant has changed owners and the current one would not be recognised by Michelin. The service is dreadful. Slow and no idea what to do. Very much just a standard Indian restaurant now with overpriced food. It is nowhere near what it was, disappointing.

An underwhelming experience. We booked online and we were invited to pre-book our meal. When we arrived we were shown to our table but the service was PAINFULLY slow Everyone of the staff members were very pleasant, but very slow. The mixed platter was tasty , but it took a long time for the main courses to arrive (a prawn Karachi & Rogan Josh) The prawns were tasty , but the lamb was underseasoned We decided not to have coffee or dessert,but there was another delay as they couldn't print the bill!! Again there was a delay when I paid by credit card. I'm not sure if there was just an IT problem, but there seemed to be long delays throughout the night. I felt that a 2 course meal , with 2 non alcohol beers and 11/2 pints of lager was expensive ( almost £110) Nice surroundings, very pleasant staff, but I can't understand the Michelin recommendation

Usually when I order food, I prefer to have it delivered quickly. Haveli does that on point and has the best authentic Indian cuisine I have ever had in Newcastle. The food tastes like you are having it in the restaurant itself. Initially, it seemed the food's expensive but after having it, I realised it was worth the money. A must try restaurant if you are looking for fresh and hot food delivered at your place quickly.

Visited with friends on a Sunday evening, a large restaurant but empty, nicely decorated but no atmosphere. The menu was very limited, and when the food arrived, it was bland and mediocre. Pricing was on the expensive side, and the food was definitely not worth it. Service was poor with a very inexperienced waiter who handed us hot plates with food. Would not recommend or visit again.

This is our local Indian restaurant which has a reputation for high end asian food. We have frequented it since it opened but now we feel it has dropped its' standards largely through lack of staff training. I tried to book a table for 2...

Four of us dined here in April 2023 and it was so good my husband and I are going back for our wedding anniversary at the end of May. The service wasn't super fast but that was good as I never like to feel rushed. The food was delicious and I can highly recommend. Reasonably priced too.

Waiter handed plates to us rather than placing on table. Poppadoms very small and broken. Pickle tray three choices each very runny and poor tasting. Chicken tikka contained no tikka'd meat, only plain chicken. Korma tasted bad. Mushroom rice however great. Service charge added without authority and assumed! Gross, and I mean gross overcharge for the quality and quantity. ' would not return.

Excellent quality of food, lovely decor and a genuinely wonderful experience! I never really knew this place existed, until I found it listed in the Michelin Bib Gourmand site, but we'll definitely be back.

Visited this restaurant last Friday in a group of 7 very nice food. Bill charges sircharge already on the bill total at 10% this optical but not told about it till checking our bill on Saturday morning a very expensive when we also left a £10 cash tip. Returned Saturday 4th Mar h 2023 with my husband at 6pm had a lovely set menu at £29.95p each With lots of choices. Again very nice relaxing place and settings. Very cold asked them to turn the air com off and put the heat on. Again bill came in a box with chocolate. Surcharge again 10% of our bill £105.50p only me drinking barcardi and bottle coke x 2 charged for 3 got removed from bill. Also asked to remove the £9.20p surcharge ( optical but not told about it from staff, manager) which is wrong. Left a cash tip again on the table whilst leaving the restaurant. May be a while we return. Check bills before paying the bill. ( hidden extras etc). Overcharging drinks and sircharge. 1st bowl was chipped badly and told them straight in the bin without washing it and putting back out to serve again.

Regularly use their takeaway service as we have two young children so it works well to have a lovely meal in the comfort of our own home. Good quality Punjabi cuisine; a credit to the local area and a real Saturday evening treat. Good veggie options as well.

Recently relaunched restaurant with updated menu and big push on new 5 DAY OPENING TIMES. Last Wednesday was great. This Wednesday we arrive and the place is shut!!! We went elsewhere for our meal locally. Shame......Great restaurant and staff. Poor when it comes to reliability....

I was Delighted to see that Haveli at Darras Hall had opened again after the strife of the past 2 years so I went along there to re-experience Their wonderful food and 5 Star service . I am now looking forward to regular visits to Haveli , a Restaurant that ticks all of the boxes for me and is without any doubt a lovely dining experience in a great location . Went for a family celebration. Hadn't been for quite a while. We had a great night. The place looks brand new inside and very clean. Service was excellent and so was the food. Very reasonable prices too. Will be back again soon.

Great takeaway service. Food is of exceptional quality and used regularly. Very well packaged and packaging keeps the food temperature controlled. Would recommend to all looking for a nice Indian takeaway which is Covid safe
