Tandoor Mahal in Northumberland

Excellent food and service at a very good price. We had two starters, two main courses, a naan bread and a bottle of white wine for £62. The food was very nice and I'd recommend the monkfish shashlik. Nice environment and great service. All in all a lovely experience.

We have been to this restaurant a few times, it is the best restaurant in Morpeth. Staff are friendly, attentive and helpful. The food is excellent, and beautifully presented. It is highly recommended.

Ordered from these guys a few times and to give them credit the food was pretty good so last night we ordered again for 3 of us It didn’t turn up so I rang the restaurant and asked where it was and was asked who i booked it through. I advised Just Eat and they advised they don’t use them anymore. I asked why my order was accepted and they said you need to take it up with them Checked my PayPal and the payment was showing as awaiting authorisation so I wasn’t too concerned. I checked again this morning and again awaiting authorisation so no big deal Thought no more of it until my mum rang the next night saying the takeaway had just turned up. No good now 24 hours later for one person so it was returned I rang the restaurant to ask why this happened and they said in one sentence that they actually told me they had no drivers ….LIE because in the next breath I asked how do you know who I am as I haven’t given you any details Obviously the order came up through my number as he read off the delivery address then said your order only came through tonight so I can only process what comes through on the day Rather a large bloody contradiction in my eyes !!!! Make your own mind up. I still say the food is good but their customer service is appalling and they lie through their teeth

I’ve ordered from here (delivery only) about 10 times over the past 3 years since I moved to Morpeth. I love their chicken tikka and pershwari naan but the service is terrible. We joke that we place an order 2 hours before we want it for it to arrive on time and it’s still always late. Not very polite when you ring up either and drivers are useless. Think I will try elsewhere from now on as last few times I’ve ordered food has been cold, dry and bland, and the taste was the only reason I kept going back. A real shame! Very expensive too.

A hidden Gem! "It's upstairs" you are not see one door on the main street and if you miss it you've missed the best Indian I've tasted in Morpeth. Good quality Indian food, a great choice in flavours and interesting combinations. Served by professionals who know how to host their diners. These chaps stayed open late for me and I was so engrossed in their menu I had to take away my third dish. Absolutely superb five stars and highly recommended ❤️

Just go to the grocery store instead. Honestly the worst curry I've ever had. Bar mats have more flavour. This place is awful

I’m so impressed with this place. The food was BEAUTIFUL…. The service was fantastic, and even though there was a problem with one of the mains, it was sorted instantly and the staff were so friendly and helpful. If you don’t try this place you’re missing out. I would have posted pictures of the food but I ate it so fast!

Very good quality food; however I agree with the previous review that the takeaway prices are too high.

Visited here last night with Eric my twin brother, we both had Onion Bajhi for starters with a lovely sauce, both had Chicken Tikka Mosala with Mushroom Pillau Rice and a Peshwari Nann, the food was absolutely amazing, the staff were very friendly apart from the I think was the Manager with a beard, what a miserable bloke he was, showed no interest at all and didn't interact with us at all.

Owner taking our order seemed so miserable. The Chicken MADRAS is absolutely terrible as seen in the pic. I’m sure it was cheap chicken paste mixed with a bit of chilli powder. Wasn’t cooked fresh you can tell looked like broth. I could have made it better myself. Yes I did bring it to the attention of the waiter. I will not be going back!!! Only good points were Nice chips and fresh naan.

Visited on a Saturday night. Two other tables occupied. Agree with other reviewers that you do feel “watched” by certain members of staff which can be uncomfortable. My order was wrong and by the time it was cooked my partner was finished, so I ended up taking it home. It was very expensive we thought and a bit of a disappointing experience overall.

This was a very ordinary experience, big choice of meals but on tasting the food was uninspiring unfortunately, it lacked flavour and was quite dry. Surrounding are tidy and clean and waiters were attentive, good price for the Thursday special but won't be in a hurry to go back.

We had a great meal on a Thursday night. Set price but great choice from the menu. Food tastes fresh and was hot. Nan bread was lovely. Good efficient service.

Open on a Sunday evening, constant flow of takeaway customers and understandably so. Food was delicious, great service, friendly staff. We have been before when last in Morpeth for a stay. Will definitely be back. Can recommend the bhaji and peshwari naan was one of the nicest I have had.

My husband & I decided to visit this restaurant as we’ve heard good reviews. However, it was the worst restaurant experience we’ve EVER had! From the moment we walked in we felt extremely uncomfortable as a staff member starred at us for 5 minutes! We felt judged and unwanted yet we are polite & well mannered people. There was only three other tables full so the restaurant was quiet yet the staff continued to rush our orders, food brought out quickly and our plates taken away before we had the chance to finish our food. All of the staff had bad manners, rude behaviour and obnoxious attitude and they were not attentive at all. Shouting out the price of our bill, tutting when they brought coffee with cream which I did not ask for (I asked for black coffee), constant starring, slamming down our plates etc etc. It’s such a shame as the food was really good and if it wasn’t for the staff we would have returned.

A great Indian restaurant in Morpeth, great food, I can recommend the Siri Lanka chicken or lamb. Great service and a good atmosphere.

Visited this restaurant when visiting relatives in morpeth excellent selection of foods and drink very friendly staff fairly priced will definitely visit here again when we go back to morpeth.

The food here is great, 5/5, however, their service let's them down. A few times now, I've ordered takeaway and each time delivery has been over 35 minutes later than promised. Still, food arrived hot, fresh and delicious, so the irrigation does tend to get forgotten as soon as it arrives!

went with my husband and 4 yr old daughter. the staff rushed us to order. It was a Thursday night deal with only 2 other tables occupied. It was 15.50pounds pp for a 5-course meal, and the staff insisted we need to order the starters and the main course at once. My daughter insisted on having soup, but he would not take the order unless I chose the complete order for me and my spouse. He rushed to take away the plates after each course while we were still eating the last bits. My daughter touched the rose placed in a vase on our table, and he was quick to take it away. Very rude and unwelcoming service by staff..we almost felt like being disciplined by a teacher holding a stick. The word 'thankyou' was automatically uttered with every rude gesture. There were rude looks now and then when my daughter tried to touch anything on the table. We live in Morpeth, but are never going back again.

Initially tried to visit on a Monday - their Google entry is out of date - closed. Located on second floor. Entrance is dim and uninspiring, cold, with concrete steps. Toilets are out of the restaurant on 2nd and 3rd floor. Welcome was subdued. No other customers - Wednesday at 7pm. We were rushed into ordering drinks - asked three times! There’s a separate Chefs Speciality menu - we ordered from it as the main menu was standard fayre. Tandoori Monkfish was tough - suspected frozen. Very small portion and served with a horrible sticky jam like sauce. Garlic chicken was uninspiring and the sauce was sweet! Deserts are from a separate menu of frozen items. When we left there were two other tables occupied. Very limited range of soft drinks or non alcoholic. Big space with dull decor. Staff seem bored, not enjoying working there. It’s a no from me!

This is a standard curry house which you will find in pretty much every town. It does the job but nothing to wow you. Decent range of dishes at reasonable price. Food quality average standard, happy enough with what we had. Service a bit aloof and rushed.

I’ve had (maybe more than) a few curries in my life and this is definitely in the top 10. There is nothing better than a unplanned curry on a Sunday evening to set you up for the week. Go there now, eat until you have to loosen your belt 🙂

Visited whilst staying in Morpeth. Absolutely lovely place The starters being mixed kebab and onion bhaji was so tasty. The Bhajis were enormous. The king prawn kurma was delicious with big juicy king prawns The lamb kurma just melted in your mouth. Rice, naan and cauliflower bhaji all just as good. The service was very attentive and very comical at times.. staff were lovely Drinks very good Definitely the best Indian Iv had in many years

After googling reviews of takeaways near us we decided to order from here due to good reviews husband placed an order can understand it gets busy but to be text order is on way twice then still waited over 2hours no order then husband recieved a call to say sorry order will be leaving or be there in 15 mins how ever time order came naan bread cold chips warm never had tikka chicken muhkani taste like this bitter chicken dry husband had lamb saag lamb was nice rest want really dissapointed when paid all that money will not be ordering here again .

Amazing food. We have just moved into the area today and took a punt ordering here, this place blows our previous best Indian out of the water. Delicious, spicy, and piping hot. Fluffy , crisp naan. Garlic Pilau with golden fragrant lumps of Garlic in it. Awesome. We will be ordering again.

Lovely welcome and chats with the staff. Menu is excellent and clearly have Chefs who know what they are doing. So with that we thoroughly enjoyed our food and time at the Taj Mahal on Boxing Day. Your Scottish Guests will be back.

Great service, great food and what an extensive menu to choose from! Our family visit was our third and every time we have been impressed. The lamb dishes I have tried have been wonderful with tender lamb and tasty spices.

First time at Tandoor Mahal. The only thing I can fault is the fact you had to walk upstairs to get to restaurant, But thats because I'm lazy!😁. Been to many Indian restaurants and without a doubt this was one of the best. Lovely owner, and the chicken was so tender you could taste how fresh the food was. 5 stars.

We’ve been customers for 25 years+, went every Saturday, then takeaway every Saturday, and now having deliveries every week since they set that up after the first lockdown. Always excellent. Had one tonight, came when they promised , piping hot, very tasty, and good value. Paid by card over the phone. Totally recommended. Thanks to all the staff

My partner and I went on a Thursday evening and were delighted to find there was a special on - 5 courses plus a glass of wine for £13.95. It included a popadom with pickles, starter, main with rice, ice cream or fruit then coffee. What can I say except that I enjoyed the food very much and the staff were very attentive. We waited just the right amount of time between courses, not so fast that you feel rushed and not so slow that you get fed up waiting. Thoroughly recommend.

At last they deliver!! My favourite restaurant does delivery takeaways. I ordered and paid on the phone and it arrived piping hot and on time ,still fantastic quality and price ! Thanks we will be back next week

Visited 24th September with my daughters. Food was amazing. Service fantastic and great value for money. Very clean. Covid restrictions in place so felt at ease and well looked after. Definitely recommend a visit.

Food was nice but not spicy enough for a jalfrazi and place was clean. Staff were a little rushed and could have been a little more polite. Not much more to say really as I have been to better indian restaurants in the same town.

After a recommendation from a local we visited here last week on a Tuesday night. We were told to go for some of the king prawn options and we were not disappointed. This is a fantastic Indian restaurant with a great selection of dishes. The service was highly attentive and friendly and the food was washed down with several lovely pints of Cobra beer. I’d definitely visit here again.

I came here on Thursday for a meal with family and ordered a mixed kebab starter and a chicken jalfrezi, service was quick and friendly, the food was great, the whole family enjoyed the meal and we will definitely be returning. I would recommend eating here to anyone in the area.

Usually very good but this time I think they had overbooked and we waited a long time to be served. Food lovely as always. Did not see tables in bar area or menus etc being cleaned down between customers or contact details being recorded for Covid 19 records.

Covid precautions good, with hand sanitizers at the door, tables well spaced, staff wearing masks. So felt safe enough. Shared popadums and a Chicken Chaat for starters - the Chaat was delicious. I had Lamb Rogan Josh and my wife Gobi Tikka Chicken for mains with Mixed Pilau and a Chapati. My wife enjoyed her chicken dish and I loved the Rogan Josh and the Pilau. So can absolutely recommend the food.Just a slight shame that the service was not a bit more friendly. Don't get me wrong, no-one was actually unpleasant, but a smile would have been nice. Would definitely go again though - the food was really good, which is of course the most important thing!

Visiting our favourite part of the world as we do every year - and there's only one place to get a fab Indian meal - either to eat in with friendly service - or as we did this time, to take out. Piping hot, well prepared and delicious.

Have always enjoyed the food at this restaurant and regularly visited.Was delighted when they started to deliver takeaway over the lockdown period & continue to do so, easily the best Indian food in Morpeth right now, with tough competition from Morpeth Tandoori! Lovely sauces and always great quality chicken which I’m very particular about.

Came for the eat out to help out but we come here often as the food and service is outstanding. Too quality restaurant.

Rang up and booked up . Hand sanitisers station at door on arrival .Greeted by the staff all wearing their masks .we were shown to our table where we ordered drinks and were shown the menu .we new before the menu came pretty much new what we wanted as we ate here on several occasions prior to lock down .Food was excellent as usual . As people were leaving the tables were stripped of table cloths and thourghly cleaned as were the chairs. Tables were well spaced to allow social distancing .

Have been enjoying the food since the restaurant opened. We have never had a poor meal or been disappointed. The quality of the dishes is excellent; service is first rate; atmosphere adds to the evening or lunch time choice of time; our two children were young when we started visiting the restaurant and now love to go when they visit with their own grown up families. Our favourite choice when eating out.

Turned up for a meal with my fiance .on there website the menu was different to what they offered ...food was average as hell much better in Morpeth ...you have changed the menu to RIP people off ...idiots

My wife and I had a meal on 30th November and although the meal was ok the waiter made a mistake on the bill and when I took my card out to pay he said the drinks were not added and dashed off to update the bill with my card. I have always ensured I do not lose sight of my card but was so distracted I didn't realise immediately. I then noticed two days later two fraudulent payments from my account. SO PLEASE BE WARNED! My credit card company is looking in to it.

Visited on Saturday evening with my partner and two other couples, although we hadn't booked had only a short wait for a table.We all had a main dish and shared 3 rices and 2 naan breads between us which was a perfect portion.The mains were excellent, really good balance of flavours and with our exception we all agreed it was the best curry we have had in a while.Will certainly return an would recommend.

We ordered a takeaway from this restaurant recently and it was absolutely delicious.

After waiting 90 minutes we paid for our drinks and walked... Is our order ready yet (24hrs later) or is it another 2 minutes - you do not deserve anybodies custom - in the end we had an excellent cod & chips at Carlo's, nice friendly staff unlike your grumpy lot.. Needlless to say we will not be coming back, even if our order is ready!
