Fantastic takeaway for. Food is fantastic as always. Plus I got to enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant with a nice pint of cobra while I waited.

Amazingly tasty dishes, that were all well timed & delivered by a very friendly service. The place it's kept clean and tidy, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to dine out. Brilliant service and amazing food.

Ordered a lamb dish but it tasted old and chewy and the qtr chiken was very dry to the point just gave to the dog and onion bhaji not crispy almost inedible it's a shame as was really looking forward to it now will not go again. The food was very bland its sad that I cook a better curry then this

Lamb which should be an Indian restaurant speciality was salty and chewy, salmon dish dry and chewy with no peppers when ordered with no onions one would expect. Mushroom dish tasted muddy and was gritty. Chapatis and onion bhajis although authentic tasted like they were made the day before and reheated. We won’t be spending upwards of 50 pounds on a takeaway for two from here again

Very friendly service, good food, arrived hot. Relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. Good value

My wife and I have just experienced the most wonderful meal in ages, I cannot fault the friendly and professional service, a most accommodating server who moved us to a quieter table, and the food….. oh so tasty, quality. Thank you to all at The Spice 👍👍

Have always had great meals from here but wonder if they have changed their chef as the last 3 times the food has been very bland! Such a shame

Ordered a delivery paid 50 pounds but all poppadoms were just crumbs the mango dip did not taste like mango the king prawn for 6 were 2 tiny shriveled up prawns the onion bhaji had zero crispness real shame as I wanted to enjoy it now not so sure I would have again

Not their biggest customer but used them over the years eat in and takeaway always excellent Unfortunately tonights takeaway was for me well below par. Onion bharjis appeared preprepared, dried and slightly burned. The nan breads again dry, limp. Main courses had same feeling of reheated, sauce cloy, chicken pieces dry. My normal review would be glowing but this was all totally below par sorry. Cant remember the last time i was motivated to right a review but here i am. Sorry.

We have been to MANY many Indian restaurants and this by far was the most average bog standard uninspiring one we've been to. FOOD was dry and lacking flavour and spice. Everything that came out was just bland and mediocre. Restaurant is nice and modern and free car park is a plus but the main thing you go for is the food and you will be severely disappointed. Everyone of us left with food still on the plates. Would not go back to this one.

Nice and busy and great atmosphere on a friday, food delicious!

We always come here to celebrate special occasions. Everything from the food, to the service, to the restaurant itself is first class, and the prices are very reasonable. If you're lucky to live nearby and have never been, I highly recommend it.

Limited menu really helps this place because everything we ordered was of a very high standard. All the waiters were extremely polite and it wasn't over priced like a lot of curry houses, we will definitely be coming back!

Just returned from the spice in elmstead, service was excellent food was excellent and the staff had time to talk to you which was most appreciated. Definitely recommend to anyone.

I have dined here time and time again and I'm yet to have a bad meal always cooked perfectly great atmosphere for a cozy restaurant service has always been fantastic.

We tried The Spice just before Christmas and really enjoyed our meal. Very helpful and friendly staff. We even asked for our Madras to be spiced up a bit more, which they did and it was great.

Not sure why some reviews say it's the best food they have had. Very average, wouldn't say the food was bad but not great. I've eaten in many Indian restaurants over the years, up and down the country and this one was average comparison. Probably wouldnt go again. The staff were fantastic, its clean and had a lovely atmosphere but for me the food let it down. Only one beer available and a small menu choice.

We came across this restaurant after attending a sporting event, the staff were so welcoming and the food was great . Would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area

this place is amazing young lad who served us under a busy restaurant was amazing but the food took me to new levels from starter prawn puri incredible and as for the sizzling chicken words can not say how spice tingling that was first class. onion bhaji the size of a cricket ball with no grease whatsoever this place is a must excellent if i could give it six stars i would . so suggate get yourself down here as you are the bhaji connoisseur

The food is excellent the service is phenomenal and just an all round perfect place to dine. My family have been eating their for years and the staff have always made them and myself feel welcomed. It was the first time we ate there, I must say we were very impressed we were found a table although we hadn't booked, the staff were very pleasant and helpful.the food was very tasty and plentyful. and reasonably priced.alround it was very good and we will recommend it to our friends. we'll done everyone.

First time getting a takeaway from here and won't be the last. I had a kadai gosth which was very tasty, the lamb was the best meat I've had from an Indian restaurant which is saying something as the place I normally go to is excellent quality and this is even better than that. There was tonnes of flavour throughout the whole meal, perfect blend of spices and quality.

We were a party of six and all of us had the most amazing time. Food was delicious, atmosphere amazing and service so efficient and friendly. Kieran, our waiter was so helpful and accommodating. For what we had, the cost was very reasonable. Can’t wait to return and highly recommend.

Went as a group of 6 for dinner and we all came away very satisfied. The restaurant wasn't busy when we were seated but soon filled up, which created a relaxed atmosphere. Food is generously portioned and well cooked - anything with lamb is lovely! The waiting staff were helpful and friendly. We had a great time and left very full!

Me and the wife want to hear for dinner i thought the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was good service was good with friendly staff my wife tried something new which was a bit to spicy for her......so be sure to ask before ordering however we had a great meal with a few drinks at a very reasonable price i will be back to this lovely restaurant 10 out 10

Great find on the road to Harwich Ferry. Great food, quick service and reasonable pricing.

We enjoyed a delicious family meal recently, the service itself was very quick and on point - one downside was Waiters who did not engage with the Customer which was a bit weird to be honest. Prices were very reasonable and good size portions. All food was fresh and piping hot. We would definitely come back again and order for takeaway. Would of been a 5 Star for Service had the Waiters been engaging rather than Robotic. Authentic Indian Food done just the way you like it.

Excellent food and good service. This is our 2nd visit and on both counts the restaurant has been overun with children late on a Saturday night, so not ideal! Toilets were not very clean otherwise I would have given 5 stars.

Sat next to a window in a draught.Staff not very friendly,it’s noisy.Food is so spicy,I could not eat.This time I ordered a vegetable biriyani that shouldn’t be hot but it was.Last time I visited I had a prawn rogan that I have in other restaurants and I have no problem.This one I couldn’t eat.

I've been ordering here for years and never had an issue before I always have a chicken korma and usually it's lovely but I don't know what has happened as tonight it was very spicy I couldn't even finish it and it ruined dinner for me and my partner disappointed with this.

I can’t speak highly enough of the exceptional customer service I was shown by Sam and the team here - the absolute epitome of community spirit. I’d inadvertently ended up on my own in the restaurant, without my phone and over a two hour wait for a taxi ride home on a Friday evening. So without hesitation, Sam stepped up and gave me a lift back to our village in his own car. So so grateful. How brilliant is that?!

I'm very particular when it comes to eating Indian food, this restaurant serves the cleanest and tastiest food I've ever had from an Indian restauran. They even tweak the chicken pasanda to make it Vindaloo hot which is incredible for taste but also for the heat

Had two takeaways now and after 40 years of eating Indian in many locations I do believe is the best. the garlic chilli chicken is ridiculous

Great restaurant to go to after arriving by ferry from Harwich. Only a short detour if you are heading south like us. Beautiful building with old beams, great car park. Fantastic food and drinks, welcoming staff, can’t fault it. Would love to go again!

First time we have “eaten” in, previously take away only. Food excellent (really large portions), service first class and really good value for money. Rocking on a Wednesday night.

We always get takeaways from this restaurant and have always been happy with them. However the one yesterday was so disappointing I doubt we will be getting any more from there. Their prices have rocketed - the meal we had was a good £8 more than previous meals - that's ridiculous! Additionally I ordered a king prawn meal from my old takeaway menu and it doesn't appear on the new one they delivered to me with the meal. So I don't know what they sent me but it was tasteless and it wasn't king prawn either it was some other shellfish - maybe scampi, who knows?!

Walked in for a take away and asked for 1 chicken korma 1 chicken madras and just 2 plain rice!! Got home and I had a chicken masala !! Miss communication apparently!! I don’t eat chicken masala . So tomorrow I’m taking it back!!!!

Food was excellent. Loses out as the restaurant was far too hot, everybody was sweating! Service could have been better too, got some orders wrong and was pretty slow.

Five us on a Friday night . The food was spot on even given a very busy restaurant. I had the prawn piri piri as a main meal. Absolutely excellent. So much to choose from. Well done, will be back.

A week night visit and was pleasantly busy but not overly so. Service is polite but slow. I am not a veteran of indian restaurants so it does take awhile to work out my choices from the menu as I do not like to always have the . . . . . curry. However I did take an hour to get the food to the table. I had something named Kadai Gosth. Delicious! An unexpected fresh, rich, deep flavours I totally enjoyed. In fact, we sampled, various naans, rides and bhajis and all were very good. A great place for a 'curry night' but people do seem to book quite early. Worth a visit

Hadn't been for a few months, but went the other night for an impromptu meal out, welcoming reception, service was good the food was excellent , it is our favourite Indian restaurant, whilst the Covid restrictions have been relaxed, but they are still mindful of the risks and are still exercising some safety measures. Will be back again soon.

Nice surroundings. However food was served on cold plates and some thicker chicken tikka pieces were still raw in the middle. Ive been to better restaurants.

Ordered a takeaway, which was delicious. However, there is no nut allergy information online, a family member has a severe nut allergy - lucky I left a note on the order and they did call and notify us so we changed the curry. However this needs to be clearly labelled for each curry as this could be very serious if he was not notified. Told the staff and they didn’t seem to be bothered. Shame really as it’s a lovely restaurant, not worth the risk at all!

Had our first curry delivered from you tonight. We were impressed by the speed of delivery and the man who delivered it was masked up and polite The food was hot and lots of flavours plenty in the portion and you could taste the chicken tikka had been properly cooked on a charcoal grill. A bit more expensive than others in Colchester but you get what you pay for.

This is a really good indian. The food is amazing. Especially the lamb which is so tender. It's our go to now the Blue Sari is closed. It's definitely worth the drive.
