Best real ale pub in Westminster with very friendly staff....and dog. Set back from busy streets so a great location too.

First time in here and what a great pub fantastic choice of real ale I went for Portobello brewery Market porter and it was in perfect order really good atmosphere and the staff were excellent really recommend

My wife and I have been customers at this pub for many years as we’re local to the area. We recently popped in on a Saturday afternoon with a friend and our newborn baby. After buying a full round, an incredibly rude member of the bar staff stormed over to us to tell us we had to get out immediately as the pub has a ‘no under 18s under any circumstances’ policy. The bar staff had seen us enter with a pram and then served us drinks, and we hadn’t seen any signage, so we had not known this was their policy. Rather than come over to us and explain calmly, the young male member of staff came overly aggressively and basically behaved like our baby was contraband and told us we had to leave immediately. I have recommended this pub to dozens of friends and family, and will definitely tell them all to avoid in the future. This is the first pub in the area and beyond that are hostile to young families (after taking our money of course).

Popped into The Speakers the other night, and it did not disappoint! Proper cozy London pub with a solid selection of beers and just the right vibe—not too loud, not too quiet, just perfect for a relaxed drink. Big shoutout to Sally, who was an absolute legend! Super friendly, made great recommendations, and just had that kind of energy that makes a place feel even more welcoming. If you’re in the area and fancy a pint in a proper pub with top service, this is the spot. Will 100% be back!

It's a nice pub, but it is often heaving, so don't go there expecting a seat! Nice beer and a nice atmosphere though.

Quite possibly the best beer selection of the Westminster pubs. If you want a multi-pint session sampling a variety of styles, this is the best bet in that postcode. Would be even better if they also added a rotating guest lager. Prefer the outside area, though, as it can get very noisy inside. Hard to have a conversation when you can barely hear your own word.

I was with my friends and I was having a nice evening over a few drinks. However, one lady managing the bar took a dislike to us for no apparent reason. The lady came to us when we were laughing and having a good time and VERY RUDELY told us to shut up. We tried to be more quiet but despite that she told us we must leave, and attempted to take a photograph of us. We asked other tenants if the pub if we were being loud and they said we were being absolutely fine - which suggests to us that this bartender just took a dislike to us. It was 9pm and we were not being unruly. WOULD NOT COME AGAIN!!!

Worst pub in London. Do not come here if you want to talk. The complain constantly about normal conversation. WORST PUB EVER

We came in here on a rainy afternoon and there was Lego to keep us busy which was a nice twist. One of London's last backstreet boozers with a super cute pub dog to boot. Great real ales, Love it.

Fantastic cask ale pub with a brilliant selection of well-kept ales! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with friendly staff who really know their beer. I booked the upstairs room - the chamber (up to 20 people) - for a work Christmas do. Couldn’t be happier with how easy the staff there made the experience. Everyone there from booking through to the event itself was super friendly and really helpful. Would heartily recommend. They didn’t do food but did suggest we could order in from the pizza place down the way. Have been here for drink many times and in my opinion it is the best, most characterful pub in Westminster (by a long way)!

I came in for a few minutes, after a super stressful day…. A pint of IPA always relaxes you…. But the contagious smile of the girl behind the counter (the most beautiful girl I've ever seen) really brought me back to life❤️…. Thank you so much☺️

One for the cosiest pubs in London which i got introduced to because of my friend Sally who serves amazing beers there. Their ales are world class and ambience is just vibrant enough to make you feel alive.

Cracking Westminster pub, where you'll sometimes find some interesting attendees from the world of politics. Great service, good selection, friendly place.

Genuinely one of the best experiences working with a venue for an event. Nothing was too much trouble, the pre-planning and communication prior to our event was prompt and helpful and so easy. On the day, the room was setup perfectly, plenty of seating, lovely touches to make it festive and personalised. The tab setup was efficient, the drinks were great and the team could not have been more welcoming. It's the perfect cosy pub for a Christmas party and I'm so glad we could book the room. We ordered our own food in and it was no trouble at all, the team even cleared up all the pizza boxes which was so kind! As a frequent visitor of the pub anyway, this was the cherry on top of what I already knew to be a great pub! Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a nice venue for leaving drinks, a party or any occasion needing a space in a pub!

Visited during a quiet lunchtime. Excellent cask ales. Well served. Decent pub. It used to be the Elephant & Castle and this newer iteration is much tidier. Beware though, the toilets are upstairs. And the stairs were built in Victorian times so they are quite steep.

A favourite haunt of government officials and politicos. Relatively recently renovated with plenty of space on the pavement to spill outside on a sunny day. Pretty busy with a great atmosphere on a weeknight after work.

Best original Pub in London! With a welcoming atmosphere, we had such a great time drinking beer and getting to know the locals. Everyone is so friendly and had a chance to meet the owner, Tom who is so down to earth. The bartenders Max and Anya are amazing and gave us the history about real ale. ***Americans ain’t got anything on beer until you come here! Frank the dog left a place in our hearts! Such a wonderful pub to visit!***

Very good customer service and dog friendly, I noticed the cute little hound in the corner on his bed by the stairs asleep. Later. he woke to see how things were going say hello and check everyone out. He's definitely in charge. Loved it there. Will be going again.

After a long travel day we stumbled into The Speaker to get a nice proper pint 🍺 and figure out the rest of our London plans. This place was perfect! Cozy, comfortable and great service. Enjoyed our pint next to a little hound puppy who obviously manages the place! Guinness was fresh and hot the spot.

Horrible, horrible service from Kira. She absuletly doesn't have a clue of what customer service is, she doesn't know what crucial conversation are, and most importantly she doesn't know how to deal with customers in a professional way! Disgusted from her service, she lost 20/30 customers only because she is not capable to deal with different expectations and requests. Shocked to see how a business can relay and trust in a not trained manager.

Visited The Speaker after a recommendation from a colleague and I was not disappointed. Great selection of cask ales which are very looked after. No food menu, but you are allowed to bring your own food into eat, which I think is a good touch.

As best I can tell (as a Yank), this place is the real deal. We asked the bartender if they served food, she said no, but recommended a fish & chips place a block away. We enjoyed tasty fish and chips (takeaway) while drinking some delicious cask ales, all in this nicely furnished gem of a pub. Will keep this in mind next time I'm in London.

Lovely little bar very clean and cosy. Loved that it's dog friendly (although sadly no dogs on our visit) and a extra bonus that it's child free (parents of a 3yr old having a weekend child free 😂) Staff seemed nice enough Only thing I'd say is the gasses definitely need looking at as for a pint of cider there were almost 3 full glasses of froth poured in addition to my pint and almost 2 glasses for a pint of lager 🤯 didn't affect us but can't be cost effective surely

I was just here for a couple of pints. Service was a bit slow, staff seem unbothered and pre-occupied. Their crossword puzzle did get me and my mate worked up though. Apparently they have regular pub quizzes too.

We stopped by to escape the cold for a bit, and was not disappointed. This was our favorite pub we visited in London! Frank, the adorable puppy sleeping happily on his bed, also led to the cozy vibe.

We booked out 'the Chambers', the Speaker's private space, for a small Christmas party and had a blast! Tom and the staff were fantastic and accommodating. The Speaker has a wonderful buzz and vibe and I'd be happy to do another event there... and will certainly always stop in for a drink when I'm in the neighbourhood. (Ask for 'Frank'! )

Popped for a quick drink with some friends before heading to dinner, but one of our friends was told (after we'd all been served as we're 30+) that they could not serve her as she did not have a valid I.D. on her. The manager then came along and told us that she had to leave the premises altogether because they do not welcome anyone who could be under 18 year's of age, even if accompanied by an adult. No refund offered on our drinks either... Pub looks okay but had the atmosphere of a place in decline. Plenty of better pubs to go to round the corner!

Tijdens de recente hittegolf door de stad aan het banjeren met een goede vriend tijdens onze citytrip. In de wijde omgeving geen pub kunnen vinden, totdat deze als een fata morgana in ons blikveld kwam. Het bier smaakte daarom erg goed. De keuze in bier is ook ruim en de bediening was ook erg vriendelijk. Het enige minpuntje is dat je geld moet betalen als je je telefoon wilt opladen (misschien gebruikelijk in Engeland), maar het is erg aan te raden voor als je dorstig door de stad zit te zwerven en deze pub komt in je Google Maps-app bovendrijven!
