Very disappointing. Used to be a great pub - not anymore. The staff, all young were not well trained and totally unprofessional. 1 female member of staff was wearing running/exercise clothes, the others looked scruffy. No engagement with the public, as more interested in talking to their friends or checking their phones. When we asked for beer recommendations we were just offered random tastes - not a clue about their products. The staff began cleaning up way before closing time so the pub had a smell of disinfectant - not pleasant! When asking people to finish up drinks the staff were incredibly rude, especially the one in the exercise clothes. This they were happy to continue serving their friends who were at the bar. This used to be a great bar, well run and professional and a pleasure to visit, no more. Will not return and wouldn't recommend.

Added service charge at the bar. When questioned the barman shrugged his shoulders and said 'well, you could have cancelled it'. The only reason I knew it had been added was that I saw the till behind him. Not a great look ripping off the customer. However the GM dealt with it promptly so hopefully other guests won't have the same thing happen to them.

If coming from the direction of Trafalgar Square, The Harp is located just behind the pavilion entrance to the crypt of St. Martin-in-the-Fields. (Google Maps presents a much more circuitous route.) It describes itself as a “blissfully traditional place”—which prompts this brief review. Perhaps it was the contrast of just having attended a candlelight concert at St. Martin, but there is no more chaotic place to drink in London. It’s all wonderfully congenial, if slightly boozy—and the scrum at the bar is breathtaking, punters spilling out onto the street and across to the other side. Given the shambles, the pint of Guinness seemed quite ordinary.

Don’t want to hear excuses about central London prices. I live in London. This is the most expensive pub for ale I’ve come across. £7 for an Ale. Awful. Disgusting even. I go to pubs in the area but not this one in a while. Was shocked. Nice pint but that’s not the point!!! You can still get an ale under 6 and even under a fiver. Shop around. Also this place is so small everyone ends up battered at the bar or in the street standing

This is a very popular pub with real ale drinkers, evidenced by the 10 cask beers and the hundreds of beer mats above the bar. It is a narrow pub with additional seating upstairs. Being near to both Covent Garden and Soho it is ideally located. I was here at 4pm on a Monday afternoon and it was quite busy. There is a designated standing area out back but many drinkers preferred to drink in the street out front. The toilets are upstairs and accessed by a steep, narrow staircase that could prove problematic for the less mobile.

When I lived in London I used to love going to The Harp for an afternoon pint when the pub is quiet. In town for a few days i agreed to meet a pal and fellow Harp customer of longstanding there this week. I arrived while the bar manager was having a loud rant about his job to a customer. He studiously avoided serving me, the only customer at the bar, for five minutes. When he did deign to serve me, he was sullen and unfriendly. He then spent much of his time staring at his phone and I observed when another customer tried to engage him in conversation he didn't want to know, and was more interested in his phone. Buying a subsequent round, I again had to wait for service as he stared at his phone. And again, he was sullen and unfriendly when he did serve me and when I paid for my drinks. I know we all have our off days but this was at a very basic level, unprofessional. As always the beer at The Harp is decent and in years past the bar staff were knowledgeable, friendly and approachable. Good customer service as we all know is so important, especially at a time when the hospitality trade has taken such a huge hit post covid and during a cost of living crisis. Clearly from what I hear, my experience this week wasn't a one off in terms of customer service. Sadly I wont be rushing back to The Harp the next time I'm back in London. It's still one of the best central London pubs to pop into for a pint...but my..the owners need to sort out the staffing/service. I strongly suggest the current bar manager finds alternative employment that doesnt involve interacting with the public. Treating paying customers with borderline contempt and on sufferance is not a good look.
