Dark and dirty environment, beer sticking to the floor and cigarette smoke inside the bar.

The freshest pint of cask I had whilst in London. Great independent pub which are not easy to find in London. The Hophead was superb and when I went next door to the Marquis (another good independent pub) the same pint was nowhere near as well kept. Always worth a visit this pub when in London, unless you drink Madri/Carling etc. Extra seating upstairs or can stand outside front and back.

This is somewhere between a 4 and a 5-star pub. The bottom floor is charming and close and it's nice to be outside there. More character than most spots nearby. However, the upstairs room isn't so nice, a little warm, a little standard and characterless.

Just an excellent pub that looks after its cask ales, with two great staples (Hophead and Harveys) and wonderful and extensive guest beers. And the best thing? Seeing their bar staff washing their hands extremely throughly after going to the loo.

Don’t want to hear excuses about central London prices. I live in London. This is the most expensive pub for ale I’ve come across. £7 for an Ale. Awful. Disgusting even. I go to pubs in the area but not this one in a while. Was shocked. Nice pint but that’s not the point!!! You can still get an ale under 6 and even under a fiver. Shop around. Also this place is so small everyone ends up battered at the bar or in the street standing

Best pub in London if you ask me. If you are a Harry Potter fan, it is this pub and the alleyway at the back, that gave JK Rowling the idea for the Leaky Cauldron. Apparently she used to drink in here before she was famous It's kind of obvious when you look at it all

This is a very popular pub with real ale drinkers, evidenced by the 10 cask beers and the hundreds of beer mats above the bar. It is a narrow pub with additional seating upstairs. Being near to both Covent Garden and Soho it is ideally located. I was here at 4pm on a Monday afternoon and it was quite busy. There is a designated standing area out back but many drinkers preferred to drink in the street out front. The toilets are upstairs and accessed by a steep, narrow staircase that could prove problematic for the less mobile.

We entered "The Harp" pub but were not even greeted. The venue was so small that we couldn't find a place to sit. Furthermore, there was a strong smell of urine mixed with that of beer, which made the environment uninviting. Due to these conditions, we had to leave without even being able to enjoy a drink.

When I lived in London I used to love going to The Harp for an afternoon pint when the pub is quiet. In town for a few days i agreed to meet a pal and fellow Harp customer of longstanding there this week. I arrived while the bar manager was having a loud rant about his job to a customer. He studiously avoided serving me, the only customer at the bar, for five minutes. When he did deign to serve me, he was sullen and unfriendly. He then spent much of his time staring at his phone and I observed when another customer tried to engage him in conversation he didn't want to know, and was more interested in his phone. Buying a subsequent round, I again had to wait for service as he stared at his phone. And again, he was sullen and unfriendly when he did serve me and when I paid for my drinks. I know we all have our off days but this was at a very basic level, unprofessional. As always the beer at The Harp is decent and in years past the bar staff were knowledgeable, friendly and approachable. Good customer service as we all know is so important, especially at a time when the hospitality trade has taken such a huge hit post covid and during a cost of living crisis. Clearly from what I hear, my experience this week wasn't a one off in terms of customer service. Sadly I wont be rushing back to The Harp the next time I'm back in London. It's still one of the best central London pubs to pop into for a pint...but my..the owners need to sort out the staffing/service. I strongly suggest the current bar manager finds alternative employment that doesnt involve interacting with the public. Treating paying customers with borderline contempt and on sufferance is not a good look.
