The Spanish Butcher in Glasgow City

Truly a fantastic find for me! Everything was excellent! Totally recommend! The choice of steaks was good, and I believe I had the best steak so far. Will go back there again for sure.

Food was brilliant, servers were polite, atmosphere was pleasant for a Saturday afternoon.

Fabulous steaks! Cocktails and wine were yummy too! Great service from knowledgeable staff.

I was in here for dinner for my friends birthday and the food was absolutely divine. We had a Château to share and it was cooked to perfection. I had prawns to start with an a portion was very generous and they were cooked fantastically. The drinks were great too. My only slight apprehension was honestly the presentation… The place they put the steaks on were quite uninspiring. And I would’ve liked our service be a tiny bit more attentive given the price of most of the items on the menu. There was a point we waited about 10 minutes to order another round of drinks. Perhaps he was new! However, because of this we found the 12.5% service charge quite high (just shy of £50) As I say, the food cannot be faulted it was brilliant! We will definitely be back! Thank you for a lovely evening!

I ordered my steak medium and it came very rare. When my steak came back it was the same piece as before and now overcooked and chewy. Server was ok and knowledgeable but gave us the wrong drinks and then made a comment about us only buying a glass of wine instead of a bottle… was glad we had a voucher - won’t be going back and would not recommend to anyone.

Not a great experience. Prime Wednesday - great idea, but not well executed. All feels a bit mean for the money. The staff were very friendly but not attentive, and I suspect they have had minimal training. The steak was presented very poorly - see my photo. It looked like it had been slapped onto the plate. Other tables who ordered the same were much better presented than this, so I know they could have done better. That shows a lack of quality control at the pass. Ordered some extras in the end because we would have left hungry if we hadn't. It's a shame, it means I won't be back.

Brilliant restaurant..not cheap but real quality

I was really looking forward to going here but was disappointed by the whole experience. The lighting is very dark, we had to use our phone torches to read the menu. Also, the really annoying part is the menu states different cuts of meat with a price per 100g but there's a second menu with available cuts, the smallest being 600g and the standard being around 1kg! It meant we really had a choice of standard fillet or sirloin. We couldn't share the 600g cut as one of us likes well done and the other rare. I also couldn't get the sirloin rare because of the fat rendering. The sirloin my friend had was meant to be well done but it was undercooked in parts so she wouldn't eat those bits. The service was diabolical, they took away our starter cutlery when taking the wine glasses so we had to use our main course cutlery with the starter then they didn't bring replacement cutlery with the main so we had to flag them down. The waiter was annoyed and asked us who took the cutlery when it was him earlier on! The marrowbone extra for the steak was full of cooked onions rather than just baked marrowbone as a topping. At the end we split the bill and as we were leaving the same waiter ran over to stop us leaving, accusing us of not paying! Overall it was a terrible experience and a totally misleading menu. We definitely won't be going back there for a £45 sirloin steak or anything else.

Ordered the Galician chateaubriand, lovely meat, parmesan truffle fries were a bit small to share, garlic mushrooms were great, olives and bread for starters, olives were great, bread so-so.

We had a really nice Sunday roast with 3 courses here. We found the food to be tasty and meat cooked very nicely, unfortunately our roast potatoes were rock solid! However, they apologised, and got us some sautéed smoky potatoes which tasted lovely. And gave us our desserts for free. Beef marrow sliders for starter were great & churros were yum too! We had a nice waitress, she was very polite and attentive. Would like to have seen more alcohol free beers on the menu. All in all, we were impressed. Only other thing, I found it to be quite dark, and I get the mood lightening but I like to be able to see my food a little bit more whilst eating. Also having 45 minutes between starter and main was too long, never waited that long between my starter and main before.

My friend was in town and tossed a coin and decided to go for a steak. I called ahead and booked a table but it is the 73rd of January so I wasn’t expecting it to be that busy. The welcome from the staff was great and Molly was assigned as our waitress for the evening, she gave us a run down of the menu and took our orders. The only thing we could go for was the sharing tomahawk so it was ordered and a couple of beers. The steak was amazing as were the sides. My only question was we were sure the side option was a green salad which we were sure we asked for but we got a dish of green beans, fresh peas and mange tout! No mater we nailed the lot. Fabulous food and Molly was the perfect host. Thank you.

More of a restaurant that serves steak, than a common steak restaurant serving hordes in an open plan atrium. Enjoyed it, and service excellent. 4 stars rather than 5 as sides were a little uninspired, and don't reach the heights of their sister restaurant, The Butchers shop. All in all, though, a very enjoyable experience.

Great restaurant, so lovely inside, and the staff were awesome! They helped us choose, suggested some great dishes, and were super friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, my steak was perfect. We'd totally recommend it. Forgot to take a pic of my main, it was that good we just dived in!

We dined as a family of 4 for the first time and I would really recommend this place. The scallops were my favourite, my husband had a fillet and it was delicious. Service also good, we had Ruby as our server and she was very friendly.

I was here with family and friends over the Xmas period and I can truly say the steaks here are mouth watering! The olives also are to die for. All the staff were lovely too.

This was our first time dining at the Spanish Butcher in Glasgow for my Wife, myself & adult son, we had tried before but could not get a table. The restaurant was very nice, decor was lovely & the staff were extremely knowledgable. We had ordered starters & mains with a bottle of wine & 2 non alcoholic beer. Once we had finished the starters & waited for the mains. The 3 potatoes & mushrooms that came in the cast iron skillets, were that cold, I had it on the palm of my hand & the steaks were barely warm. The male that came back to the table was full of apologies (sorry I did not recall his name). I requested that they just re heat them which they did, and when they came back, the potatoes & mushrooms were all dried out and my wife's steak was pretty unedable, as it was now way over cooked, as she likes it well done, but re heating only made it as dry as a bone & very tough, by this point the experience had gone and the Bill of £211 was paid. Maybe some small gesture to make amends would have been good & even recommending that the potatoes, mushrooms & the steaks would be better not re heated ??? I don't like leaving a negative review, it does'nt sit well with me but I felt I had to as it was about -5c outside and a nice warm sizzling steak just just the ticket to have on Saturday 11th January.

Wonderful night out, expensive but worth every penny. One of the few restaurants where the food is even better than we enjoy at home. On a different level.

Overly expensive in terms of value for money. Wines very expensive. £42 for a steak that I really struggled to cut and was very chewy. It was a bit of a battle. Advised the management re steak and they offered a free dessert. An expensive disappointment

Staff where so friendly nothing two much bother manger so approachable great staff and what can a say about the food wos best steak have had desert wos great all all will be back thanks for great nyt :)

Great food and service, however a little bit pricey for what you get.

Our server was fantastic, she explained how the menu worked, details about the meat and her recommendations were spot on. It was let down by the wait for the food - almost an hour & a half. We were beginning to get pretty angry, but then the food arrived and OMG it was absolutely DELICIOUS. For 8 of us we had a 1kg Tomahawk, a 900g Porterhouse & a 600g Chateaubriand, all cooked & seasoned to perfection, with various sides & sauces, and a couple of bottles of solid Spanish red to accompany. Fanstastic. A cool £530 tab to settle at the end was a little sobering, but the food really was great. A great night, but not sure we'll go back, sorry! X

Had to send 2 items back as they were cold steak was delicious as we're the prawns table staff nice manager hopeless was asked to leave our table as they wanted it back even although there were loads of empty tables

Food was really good we asked to sit and a different table and we got told it was getting set for 6 but only 2 got seat at the table when we wear just before the bill we got more drinks as soon as the bill was paid they came over and said the table was booked we replied we will finish drinks then again theu asked 2 more times until we left i did complain to manager and just got pamed off as i said food was good but service needs to improve

Food nice, table not great asked to move but was told the other table was needed for 6, only 2 people sat at the table. We were advised they needed the table when we paid the bill, before this we had just ordered drinks and had not even taken a sip. After customer service was very poor. Manager did not seem to care.

In 3 weeks visiting Glasgow I was here at least once a week. The Gaelic Filet was amazingly tender, and I'm generally not really a filet fan. Their Sunday Roast has been one of my favorites to date and I didn't have a bad cocktail, despite trying most of them! Love this place.

Service was top notch. We ordered almost 2kg of beef and it was DEFINITELY too much for 4 of us. I dislike the small plates of sides and the beef is overhyped. If this meal was cheaper I would say worth it.

Me and my partner had the Bloodletting cocktail, absolutely incredible flavours. To start my partner had the Scallopes and I had the Sherry short ribs. Both were amazing. For mains we had the Galician Fillet with truffle fries and garlic & paprika potatoes. Every single bite was amazing!! The staff were all very attentive and made us a couple of off menu drinks with no fuss. 10/10 Will definitely be back!!

All the staff were amazing and were so good about the fact we got stuck in traffic and were late to our table. Manwela was an amazing server and had a smile on her face through the Friday night craziness (also love the fringe). It is very loud but we think that was all the Christmas parties. The food was also incredible, I highly recommend the sourdough bread

Update: Sapanish butcher lunch again: This is one of our favourite restuarants in the town. Like all our previous visits everything , food , service and ambiance was perfect. This was our first time visiting in a while due to the pandemic. This was a birthday celebration lunch and it was perfect. As with all our previous visits the food and service was perfect. The informal yet sophisticated atmosphere is excellent. Our server was excellent. She gladly explained all the dishes and provided us with recommendations. This is the reason it is so hard to get a reservation at weekends. We will definetely be returning , hopefully very soon.

Really looking forward to a unique meal for our anniversary as it turned out we got put in a very small table, we ordered then got told there was a power cut so we would not get our meal, then 5 mins later got told our meal had just been made in time..Then endured a fire alarm for most of night and temperature was that cold it was a relief when we got told desert was not an option as Ice cream would not have been a good option to say the least as it was very expensive we were not overly impressed to say the least.

Being Spanish it is not the best thing to go to a Spanish restaurant in Glasgow… but in this case the general rule is broken. It is a high quality site. Top product (premium Galician meat), fantastic wine with option by carafe (half a bottle) (Rioja), spectacular croquettes, fantastic dessert (cheesecake). Very good service. Good atmosphere (maybe a little dark). 100% recommended. I have gone twice already.

Very good restaurant. My steak was amazing. Source and mushrooms tasty as well. Good desert. Cute waitress gave me good recommendations. High quality products. Nice cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is barely noticeable from the street. Menu is not overwhelming.

Far too dark, many patrons struggle to read the menu. Steak knives look fearsome, but are pretty blunt. Beef in Sunday roast 30% fat.

Good food and atmosphere but a little pricey

Lovely venue. The decor and vibe is great and the food is delicious. We arrived about an hour early and they let us sit at the bar. The barman was brilliant with good banter and actual knowledge of making cocktails. Servers were also really friendly. The menu is a bit confusing needing some maths skills but it tasted amazing.

It's definitely a place to come back to.. we enjoyed the food, and the staff were very accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu.

A great experience - brilliant staff and a phenomenal menu. All good cooked to perfection including the vegetarian option which was utterly delicious. Cocktails were also brilliant and worth trying. Absolutely worth a visit and worth every penny.

Best steak restaurant in Glasgow - superb

After hearing good things about this place I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately I was very disappointed 😞. Ordered the Scottish fillet which was very tough and the pepper sauce tasted bitter. Starter was nice although its difficult to justify paying £17 for 3 scallops. We did make our server aware and he was apologetic advising that the steak may have been tough due to a "bad batch". A restaurant that specialises in steak should surely have a tried and tested quality supplier. At least I gave this place a try but unfortunately I won't return.

Almost very good. We didn’t book and arrived around 9pm. They did a good job to accommodate us. Both had prawns to start, very meaty but lacked a little bit of flavour. Asked for the steak (Galician Fillet) medium rare but it came out well done. Attempt number two didn’t get it right either, more of a medium. They offered to take off the service charge however I had no issue with the service as our server was great. Spoke to the manager and agreed that it was the £42 steak that should be taken off and not for the stake to be removed (why punish the server when it was the meal itself). They also offered us two single malts as further compensation. It’s a shame I didn’t get to enjoy the steak as a medium rare but happy with the way it was dealt with in the end.

What a fantastic experience we had on our recent visit. The food was fantastic and the service, thanks to Holly, was brilliant! Holly was able to recommend the best steak and sides. Thanks Holly! The menu was really varied and was really good value for money. We will definitely return on our next Glasgow visit.

Mice running around , we were assured to be compensated for the inconvenience and distress only to have our service charge removed. Many other customers unsatisfied. Not worth the visit !

Absolutely incredible meal, way and above the nicest steak I've ever had. Everything was cooked to perfection, we had a variety of steaks and the Presa Ibérico pork which was delicious. Our server Manuela was excellent, very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful with recommendations. Two of our party are coeliac and the vast majority of the menu was suitable and there was no concerns at all about being gluten free. Couldn't fault the place in anyway. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. 10/10.

One of the challenges my husband and I faced while traveling in Scotland is finding a late supper. Many places close the kitchen at 9PM. We tried three places before we came upon the Spanish Butcher, where we could only order some appetizers at the bar since we had no reservation. We shared a charcuterie board with delicious meats, olives and cheeses and amazing beef sliders with bone marrow over a carafe of Spanish red wine. Our best meal in Glasgow. We came back for lunch the next day, easier to get a reservation, and enjoyed a lean cut of Galician beef and dessert to celebrate our last day in the city. One of our servers for lunch, Manuela, was very charming. If you are looking for good food in Glasgow, this is the right neighborhood.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and food. Was a bit on the dark side in the restaurant, could be doing with a look at the lighting. Apart from that, excellent 👌

Enjoyable evening spent at the Spanish Butcher, the food was of excellent quality and the service was first class , the only minus for me was that I thought the food was way overpriced especially the desserts. For me the restaurant would be for a special occasion or treat as it’s an expensive night out .

I visited the Spanish Butcher for a birthday celebration and it didn't disappoint. Holly was very helpful explaining the cuts of steak and answering any questions we had, her service was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and return myself.

Just went for lunch, there's a good wee lunch menu deal. Slider starters were good, decent portion too, didn't need the (delicious!) sourdough bread appertiser in hindsight. My hake was very good. Sons rump steak was spot on. He had churrosnto finish also delicious. Great service, good vibe inside. Worth paying wee bit extra for this place if you are looking for a bit of quality food in the city centre. Will be back for sure.

I’ve been here a few times now and love it so much. It is defo on the expensive side but totally worth it for a special night out. To start we had the scallops and grilled octopus - both were so tasty! Then as the main we shared the rare Galician chateaubriand with manchego fries, mushrooms. Garlic sauce and peppercorn sauce. It was honestly perfect (if I had to be picky I’d say the mushrooms could’ve been hotter) then we shared the churros to finish. One of my fav steak restaurants

First time eating here and I will not be back. Restaurant is nice, very relaxing, staff were good. We headed here with having a steak on our mind but the Sunday beef roast looked good so we opted for this. Big mistake. Our starter was lovely but the the roast was like something from a Little Chef carvery. Meat was like rubber and the roast potatoes were undercooked! Nothing other than the starter was good. To make things worse my water glass had lipstick on it. Really disappointed. Been hearing a lot of great things about this place but sadly it fell well short.

I attended recently for my partner's birthday and what a day we had! The service and food were outstanding, our server recommended the pork and it was delicious. He also recommended the sangria which was so good I had two. We will definitely be back.

Hands down one of the best steak restaurants and experiences I’ve had in Glasgow. Place is very classy. The staff were so knowledgeable on the steaks. We ordered a prime rib to share it was beautiful. The chiefs advised that we should have it medium as we normally have it medium rare, but said they would try get it as close. Chef knows best about these cuts so we agreed. It was beautiful, sides were lovely too. Hostess was great. I will be back in the future to try another cut of a different steak. It’s a must try for a special occasion

I rarely do reviews, but unfortunately, this time, I have to. I 've been on Tuesday lunch with a friend, and we had octopus, scallops, and carpaccio as a starter, then 500gr of chateaubriand, it was very chewy. It used to be my favourite steak house in Glasgow. Very sad, the manager didn't really care about it .

Wow absolutely beautifull food mainly steak but to be fair one pork&fish option. Could the place do with a grey ceiling instead of black ? Yes the black ceiling and lighting do make it appear dark...............however the food is wonderfull staff are really helpfull the meat just melts in your mouth.........actually the Spanish butcher does feed your mind&soul........and does exactly what it says on the tin!!........if you do not want spanish beer or galiccian steak ............please do not go........we will come back.

Last night was our Wedding Anniversary, my wife and I. We had a Galician Chateaubriand steak medium rare, 500g shared between two. It was absolutely delicious, best I've ever had. The starter was mixed charcuterie for two, again, flavours were superb, the mix was delicious, the wee suprises- hot mini garlic potatoes with cream inside a ball deep fried- were great, the olives were so delicious. We had a lovely cocktail to start and a Spanish ganache / merlot, also. The sides were mushrooms and garlic potatoes, the whole was filling and again, very delicious! The only thing I found difficult and slightly off- putting was light bulbs above us, one line was fairly bright, the other very dull. So the overall lighting felt a bit dark, but you definitely got used to it. Price wise, folk are reviewing and complaining but I say, you definitely get what you pay for, and it is not as expensive as restaurants in the west end of Glasgow ( naming no names but a certain India is one....) plus last night's service, in spite of a very busy clientele from Troon's Open Golf competition, was for us wonderful, waiters, both the introductory male excellent explanation, and the evenings attentive young lady, were fantastic. Altogether, I cannot recommend The Spanish Butcher enough. Especially the staff, even watching the chefs through the window was great, they gave out a perfect air of professionalism and they looked like a very efficient, happy well- led team. Both my wife and myself have experience, my wife runs her own cafe as head chef, I was a chef when I was younger, so I reckon what I have described, is a damned good restaurant. Go there, go there Now! 😁👍

We were really looking forward to having a steak professionally cooked for us but sadly that part of the night was disappointing. We ordered a Scottish Chateaubriand and it was bland and a bit tasteless, making it over priced for what we got. We did enjoy our starters and the staff were really helpful but the star should have been the steak. I also felt there was a lack of attention to detail on the way to the toilet with spare furniture stored in a couple of places taking away from the overall ambience of the restaurant.

Slick, efficient and welcoming. The food was amazing, two of our party had Galacian steaks and appreciated the stronger, more like venison flavours. The 3rd person had hake, with superb sauce, garlic potatoes and veg and it was so full of flavour. The deserts, cheesecake and almond tart, were delucious. Service was very attentive and explained the menu process clearly. A little on the pricey side but well worth the money. Look forward to going back sometime.

First time here, a family of 3 for a celebration dinner. Menu can look confusing but is well explained by your waiter. Can't fault anything about the evening. From first entering the service was excellent and the food was outstanding. When requesting another knife, we were even given a tray with a choice! Definitely be back...

Quite possibly the best food I've had in a long time. The olives and sourdough were to die for, we had sliders and beef short-rib for starters and a beef roast dinner and prime rib with mac and cheese and chips for main and churros and cheesecake for dessert, Could not fault, 10/10. The staff were lovely, the atmosphere was cosy and inviting the food was cooked and seasoned to perfection and even the toilets were immaculate. I would highly recommend this restaurant, especially for special occasions, as the experience would make for a perfect evening.

Visited last week after son's graduation. Waitress was rude. If you happen to be a individual who is not a big meat eater then this is not the place for you. I found the surroundings dark, too noisy with unpleasant smell. The other people in the party enjoyed it. Over priced and over rated. I will not visit again.

Reason for low score is the automatic tip that is added to your bill. Whilst this may be a practice that seems to be the norm in Glasgow, I refuse to return anywhere you are told what to tip.
