A marvellous pub I sometimes visit when returning from a walk on Hampstead Heath. The Southampton is for people who seek refuge from the noisy plastic horror of modern chain pubs and like to drink good beer. It has 16 pumps of the best craft ales in the UK (selection rotate on a weekly basis) and 8 or traditional draught ciders. It has no jukebox, but a record deck and a box of vinyl LPs of classic soul, blues and jazz which the aimiable young staff can select from (and not too loud). The decor is effortlessly shabby with bare floorboard, peeling paint and assorted old furniture. Seldom crowded during the day, all ages welcome, a real gem.

Beautiful quiet garden spot for a beer on a hot afternoon, or a warm and welcoming drink in the bar. This place feels like its on a ley line, make friends, talk to strangers and join the lovely vibe. Music on tuesdays too!

Cosy contemporary pub. Elders plonk fingers in the honky tonk piano, fire roaring. The draft selection is one of the best in town. Does as it says supplying ale, cider and meat - but I was really impressed with the veg scotch egg, good for any plant eaters. Great back garden too (if you can find a seat)

I always visit this pub whenever I find myself in this part of London, as it's an excellent ale house with a good atmosphere. The pub usually has around eight cask ales available at any given time, always in tip-top condition and served up by a friendly, hard-working team of bar staff. Cider and perry options are also available on draught and they have a decent selection of craft keg beers to choose from as well. Food is available in the form of classic pub snacks such as pork pies and scotch eggs, as well as cheese boards and filled rolls. They had the fire lit on my recent visit, which was most welcome and they usually play music from an old record player, with a stack of vinyl records to pick from. The pub's main issue is that it's a victim of its own success - my recent Saturday evening visit saw the place packed thanks to its relatively small interior and limited overflow space into the small patio 'garden' to the rear. However, if you time your visit right, this is a great pub to settle down in for a session and remains my 'go-to' place in NW5.

I visited this place in December and around 2 weeks after my visit some fraudulent transactions appeared on my credit card. I never used this card online and apart from using this card on this one occasion in this pub, I only use it to pay for my grocery shopping in my local store. So it appears to me quite obvious where my card details got stolen. Avoid this place!

We went to this small pub when travelling from Euston to alexandra Palace as it had been recommended by a friend. The rhubarb and winter spice cider was one of the best ciders I've had in my life - would happily buy a bag of it for home. Friendly locals as well, not something I expected as a northerner, based on reputation! Would definitely go here again and recommend to any couples especially CAMRA members.

The excellent lunchtime atmosphere was also matched in the evening , our defeat to Villa put down to just one of those days . Looking forward to next seasons our matches in London when we will visit the Southampton again . The way it is run proves running an excellent pub is not rocket science , well kept beer , good simple bar snacks and friendly efficient bar staff who despite being busy have time to have a chat .

Casi no había televisores widescreen deja solos.

Have lived in the area all my life, went to this pub on Christmas Eve with some friends for a quiet festive drink. There were four of us, two were pensioners, myself and the son of one of my friends. We had bought two rounds, when an over zealous barman leaned across to one of my friends to say he wouldn't be serving us again because one of us was drunk. We had only had two pints and the chap in person was a pensioner. Ridiculous. You know who you are. The guy in the burgundy shirt. Avoid like the plague. We were all Camra members and tried a different ale each, so sampled eight different ales. Six were below standard but two were very good. But due to the poor service wouldn't go there again

Back in the '70s and '80s, record shops were hailed as the places to go if you wanted emotionless, sniffy service - nowadays it's hipsters behind bars doing it. The Southampton Arms would be 'excellent' if it wasn't for the seriously disinterested servers. With the exception of one, a young red-haired lady who actually smiled, the staff need to drop the huffiness of their website's taglines and just, y'know, engage a little. Not a lot, i don't want a conversation about life, just a 'thank you'. Anyway, the service and the piss-stinking toilets aside, the food and beer is excellent and the convivial atmosphere makes for repeated visits. It's 12-15 mins walk from Kentish Town tube, there's a bus stop outside, provides musical accompaniment via a turntable (so you get whole album sides rather than endless piped pop music) and a small courtyard for smokers. The Moor, Hobsons, Marble and Binghams were served to perfection and did I mention the pork? But, please. Spend £10 on Glade for the loos and smile - you get to play records all day and sell beer.

SOOOO. To start they have beer: ales, larger and stout and ciders from local and close by brewers. If you are looking for a Vino bar- head else where as this is a proper ale establishment. They also make their own howling hops brew- which is pretty nice for a larger (I'm a stout/ale fan!) all on draught and served in proper tankards. Ranging from 3%-9% and beyond you can try as many as you like and decide. Lethal for a school night unless you session halves. Alex, one of the bartenders is really friendly and knows his beer. He's been there for over 6 years and that's a true sign of doing what you love. All staff I feel clearly enjoy what they do and it comes across in warm friendly service.. It's really a place where everyone knows your name!!! Small capacity, say 40 max inside so very cosy. It's dog friendly and has a cute well heated outdoor bit for those summer eves. Some week nights there is a jazz trio or a piano playing everything from rag time to soul, funk and jazz. Cash only, but the cost is really affordable for the area. A pint and half is about £6. YOU can have homemade pie, sausage roll, hog bap, veggie scotch egg and many other snacks to keep you happy. I've been frequenting the Southampton arms for about 5 years now. My boyfriend and I had our first date there and it's such a little gem! If you ever hit up gospel oak or Hampstead Heath it's a must to stop in for one or five!

A lovely new (I think) pub which aims to provide a genuine and traditional pub-experience. They focus on real ale and decent pub grub. I really like that they do not have a kitchen, but instead sell pies, scotch eggs, rolls etc. I wasn’t too impressed by the beer (a bit flat), but I still had five pints so it can't have been that bad. I was there on a cold day when the fireplace came in handy. Unfortunately, their firewood was wet so it burnt poorly and gave little heat. Anyone with a wood burner knows that you must plan your winter in good time so that you've got a good stock of dry wood. I hope to visit this pub again. It may seem far from central London, but on the northern line it will not take you more than 10-15 minutes to get there. Prices are reasonable and staff professional.

If I had a pub this is the kind of place I'd like to own. It is how I imagine pubs to have been in the 19thC. Excellent beer and big variety. Atmospheric, traditional busy main room. Back yard for the smokers. Laid back, appealing, bohemian, creative and continental young crowd but fun loving oldies as well. Not very expensive beer. I also asked for a pork pie and was given one of the most enormous slices of an excellent one. It could have served three people. One of the best pubs in London, nevermind Kentish Town. They've got about 10 decent ales on tap and i'd guess about 8 traditional ciders as well. The place is always absolutely rammed and full of characters, though if it's not raining you can usually find somewhere to sit in the garden if you watch like a hawk for five minutes.Pints are also somehow cheaper here than most other places nearby for some reason. They do fairly substantial bar snacks (mostly meat, scotch eggs etc) but not really full meals. A great old fashioned pub; wooden floors, a long bar and 16 pumps of beers. Lots of guest ales and ciders plus a very simple food menu of sausage rolls, pork pies and generous pork rolls. Music is via a turntable behind the bar. Great for people watching and chatting with friends.

I have been coming into this bar on and off for about 18 months and have finally decided to reviewThis is a great bar, with a fantastic selection of beers. The decision is what to have and then come back another day for the rest...Friendly staff, service is great, even when busy you never seem to wait long. The bar snacks are tasty and not overpriced as you can expect in some other barsI also like the way that everyone sits together, it is a case of find a space and sit down and before you know it you can be chatting to a complete stranger.I like the fact that this bar is slightly out of the way from the more popular bars of Kentish Town and Camden so you don't get the undesirable crowd that they can attract. All round great bar

A pub about 5 minutes from Kentish Town station. It is decorated like a traditional pub, with old pictures on the wall, old fashioned paintwork and wooden furniture. You even have to go outside for the gents, although that is not quite the traditional wall with a drain and it does have a sink, running water, soap and a hand drier. Anyway, the important stuff, there are 12 handpumps serving small independent brewery beers, 6 ciders, a hot cider barrel, two keg taps for a saison and a lager (with taste) and wines and spirits. It's a friendly atmosphere, with a variety of clientele: male, female; young and old; families. Food is basic, with an emphasis on pub snacks.

Great place for a few pints with mates. Ridiculously good selection of beers which changes all the time so doesn't get old. Laid back atmosphere, mix of locals and others. Pork pies and scotch eggs are highly recommended too.

We like this place so much that whenever we are in London, we engineer a trip to this place. Not only is the range of beer and cider great, but they serve great pork products including pork pies, scotch eggs and roast pork rolls with crackling to die for! The vinyl that they play is pretty good too and during the winter, there is an open fire which makes it even harder to leave the place.Make sure you take enough cash with you though as payment is cash only.

Right where you get off the bus, it's has a nice range of pub food, good range of beers, and is very welcoming. At 8pm, there was live music of piano and clarinet, very nice. Beautiful old pub. Polite crowd of mixed ages.

We all met up at this wonderful little pub on 19th December..Great selection of real ale and cider. Bar staff are spot on and the place had a great vibe to it. Some of our party sampled the hearty food and looked great

Great selection of ales and ciders, good munchies (pies and sausage rolls). All in all an excellent place to spend some time either solo or in the company of friends. Staff is friendly, crowd is mellow, no rowdy shenanigans. Only complain would be the men's bathrooms - I hear they are atrociously horrifically bad.

Small pub with seats both inside and to the rear walled garden.Fantastic selection of keg and cask beer from across the UK and very good prices. Selection of pork pies and sausage rolls at the bar. No jukeboxes, no fruit machines, live piano in the week. Perfect pub which I lived closer to.Be warned, cash only.

Love everything about this pub; the atmosphere, the bitters, the ciders, the food, the music, the staff.Haven't tried the quiz yet, but it's on my list.

I must say I really liked it here but it is a no frills pub. I went in to try some cider and was clearly explained the different options, with a taste of each before I made my choice. The barman was informed and really friendly. The bar has no plush surroundings, it is a place for drinking and meeting friends - which suits me. There is piano music some evenings, and a quiz, so a good pub with atmosphere for the evenings.Plenty of room for me to sit and drink my chosen cider, and do some work. It is cash only - so be prepared, but the prices are really good value so it will not break the bank.

It serves a great selection of Craft Beers and Genuine draft Ciders. It is an old fashioned style lively, noisy and crowded spit and sawdust sort of pub.It serves a limited selection of food; scotch egg, sausage rolls and pork baps.If you are a real ale or cider drinker then this is one pub not to be missed. It lives up to it's motto of 'meat, ale and cider'; it does have a veggie snack offering.

This pub is a must visit if you like your ales. There is only one lager at the pump but it is still worth a visit. It is about a 10 minute walk from Kentish Town underground. Out of the station and turn right, the pub is about half a mile on the left.Traditional pub, wooden tables and old wooden church pews, plays music from the 80's on vinyl and sells traditional pork pies and sausage rolls. It was the cheapest pub we visited too, so it's definitely worth a visit. It's a no frills pub.....

Title tells you my views. Top top quality real ales and ciders from smaller producers. Dimple beer jugs, records playing but not too loud to drown out the chatter. A real mix of customers tells a tale. Food is pork pie, scotch eggs and brilliant hot pork rolls. Cash only another bonus point for me!

If I was going to live in London, it would be near this pub. This has it all. Great beer selection, great staff and nice crowd. I felt comfortable right away. The best we found in London. The staff on hand were extremely polite and helpful with all of our questions and requests and were quite knowledgeable and we had several friendly conversations with some of the regulars.

Proper London boozer with a huge choice of real ale and cider on tap. The ambience is great and you really feel that you're taking in history as well as good drink. The bar staff are great and the range of bar snacks is excellent. The vegetarian scotch egg was so good that I had to check that it wasn't real sausage meat and my companion had a pork roll that just looked (and according to him, tasted) fantastic. Well worth a visit if you want to see a pub that isn't the usual sterile Weatherspoons' rubbish.

If you want to drink good quality ales and ciders this is the place for you. However be warned it is cash only. When available the roast pork is good, but I have attempted on a number lunchtimes and it is more often than not unavailable. Staff are a mixed bag, some are really friendly others can be a bit rude.

Situated just a few minutes walk from Gospel Oak station on the London Overground and buses 214 and C2 stop right outside so very accessible. We visited on a quiet Wednesday lunchtime and found a real ale and cider drinkers paradise - the sign outside does not lie!The barman was friendly and talked us through the range of real ales available - these varied in type and strength so definitely something to suit all tastes. Those we tried were perfect in both temperature and taste and are obviously well kept. Most if not all are from small breweries so unlikely to be widely available. The décor may not be to everyone's taste - best described as traditional with a wooden floor, light bulbs hanging from the ceiling and old photographs of some very formidable looking ladies along one wall. The piano is regularly used I was told. Personally, I loved it.There is a small courtyard to the rear to accommodate those who need to smoke and the gents is also outside - another traditional touch!A 'must visit' for real ale, cider and pub enthusiasts from London and beyond, I shall definitely return.
