The Sourdough Bakehouse in Portsmouth

I've been there over the weekend. The lady managing the place was extremely rude and aggressive. She should complete some customer service course, but I think it's beyond repair. She didn't have the item that I've asked for, which was a lucky escape in retrospect, considering similar reviews. Go to bread addiction instead, you won't regret it.

An absolutely lovely cafe and bakery where they bake the best bread onsite and pastries, as well as cakes to die for 😻 Breakfast is delicious and served all day (bonus for late risers like me), they are licensed do you can get something stronger than coffee if you want. The staff are super friendly and give this place a real homely feel.

We had the salmon and egg on sourdough for lunch with a lovely cup of tea. Absolutely excellent. Thoroughly recommend the Sourdough Bakery.

What a hidden treasure! I loved the cheese and mushroom sourdough toasted sandwich and Mocha coffee. Excellent service from the good humoured lady running the cafe. Highly recommended.

Popped in for breakfast. Incredibly friendly atmosphere, great food for a good price. Fresh ingredients in the full English, cooked to perfection, really friendly and courteous staff, and the coffee was wonderful. Will definitely be back!!

Great flat white and perfect baked cheesecake that tasted like the one from when I was little and my mum would bake it for a family. Service so friendly.

Came in for a mid afternoon bit of munch when I believe this place first started serving hot food. Amazing quality food and the quality beers you would expect at a pub. Great service from Hannah as well. Had a great time

The atmosphere is really good all kinds of ages from late teens to mature out going people with lots of energy enjoying their life eating loverly food , savoury and sweet freshly homemade 😲yum 😋 service is welcoming with smiles and laughter manageress makes you feel welcome with her aura is nice presence around the place 😁 check the place out you Will want to go back for the food and atmosphere not forgetting the music if you like a little foot tap when eating 👍

I was very disappointed in the take away breakfast we ordered, I’ve been here before and have had lovely bread. I’m not sure if it has changed management but the food we ordered was terrible. Two bagels that were not bagels at all but something that was was dry, crumbly and stale. The fillings…one that was advertised as avocado was a slop of cheap guacamole, and the cream cheese and salmon had a smidge of cream cheese and a slither of salmon. And both were laced with large slices of raw onion. It’s a shame because the bread and cakes look good.

Lovely staff and such a unique and cute find. The rustic aesthetic really makes it feel like an old timey bakery. Had cooked dinner and was lovely and very low price. Bakery goods were delicious and the bread is sooo good. Highly recommend. :) Went yesterday and the lady that served us was such a delight and a good laugh.

Good food at a really good price. Service was really friendly and the staff did everything they could to accommodate our dog. So many places seem to rip you off nowadays for a lunch and a cuppa, but this place is extremely good value.

Dog friendly! Delicious coffee and cakes are amazing! Sometimes we share a pizza for lunch and they're always very generous with toppings, always hot and always tasty. Great service, friendly and welcoming

Just had 2 for 1 sourdough pizza, to take away fantastic flavours. And a really pleased to have found them open at 17:00 on a Sunday ❤️

Lovely, friendly place with great food (including, as you'd expect from the name, really good bread). Obviously a favourite local spot - most of the customers seemed to be regulars who staff knew well - but as a visitor I felt entirely welcome.

Not usually one to complain… Returned to one of our go to bakery’s for the first time in a while, despite ignoring many previous negative reviews from friends. Last time we came, I got the green egg breakfast and the bacon was forgotten. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and later got my bacon. This time I got a breakfast bap, to my surprise I cut it in half to find one of the cooks long hairs! 🤢 If I didn’t cut it in half due to the shear size of it I would of eaten it, which made me cancel my order 🤮 Not only that, as we were waiting, in full view to us the owner was in the kitchen preparing afternoon tea, LICKING THE CREAM OFF HER FINGERS CONTINUOUSLY AS SHE WAS DECORATING THE SCONES WITH CREAM AND STRAWBERRIES Would I critique someone’s business for a hair? No, but the build up of things has me in disgust and will be going elsewhere from now on! :-)

Lovely! Needed a wee before the Grt South so popped in and grabbed some lovely looking dohnuts. Staff. Ice and friendly and would come back for more food if back down this way.

Wonderful selection of cakes and bread, extremely friendly service from the lady who served us, the doughnuts and pastries are of exceptional size considering their price, I can't wait to visit again when I'm in the area and actually sit down for lunch one day.

Been here a few times, they do good cakes and doughnuts if you get there early in the morning, but they don't last. If you go in the afternoon they are all dry, stale and a waste of money.

Bought an almond croissant at the end of the day, found the frangipane to be sour. Opened it and saw it was greyish in colour. Called the number which I took to be the owner of the business who was somewhat in denial of what I was telling them. Very disappointing.

We came to the town for the first time. It was quite early, a perfect time for breakfast. But everything was closed. Except this rather nice caffe. Delicious breakfast, diverse menu, cleanliness and polite stuff have definitely contributed into positive outlook of the town and nice time we spent there. We had Gordon's Eggs Benedict on 2 Slices of Sourdough and House English breakfast and a chocolate cake for desert

I was trying to find a cafe for breakfast after a morning walk with my friend and I found this bakery. I tried the sourdough with avocado and baked beans. the taste was amazing. since it's my first time eating avocado, the dish have me a really good impression. we were greeted by a sweet lady. a really good experience tbh💞

I often pop in lovely cakes warm welcome and nice staff. I've had the roast on a Sunday very generous portions but well worth the money. An asset to Elm grove to have this bakery/ coffee shop.

Very friendly welcome on a quiet Monday afternoon. Great selection of baked goods and sweet treats. Delicious homemade donuts. The fruit circle (can't quiet remember the name) was the star of the show - the filling is amazing.

We was made very welcome, lovely friendly staff, reasonable priced menu and good portions , and lots to choose from. Perfect for our family with older teenagers , dirty chips, toasties, pizzas is what they like. Simply and tasty food

I've been wanting to go here for quite some time, and today I managed to go....and was it worth it.....the owners are amazing and so friendly, and then the food....only had a cheese toastie, which was delicious....and then the donuts and cakes, you really need to try it, but take an appetite, as the portions are huge.... really worth a visit.

We have been looking for a breakfast spot since returning to Portsmouth last year. What a find. We booked and I am glad we did, we arrived as the rush started. Greeted by the friendly Sandra, we were seated at our table and updated constantly. Great coffee, All-day breakfast was yummy and Chris had a sourdough pizza. We took some yummy sweet treats, and a loaf of sourdough bread home too. We’ll be back.

Went there today had the big breakfast that they do ,I must say I was very pleased with it ,very tasty well presented, the only thing I didn't like was they serve it on a wooden board !! Owners where very polite and the music playing was very enjoyable, a little bit of blues type jazz covers . Lots of fancy pastries there to tempt you aswell at reasonable prices . My experience here on the whole was very enjoyable I will come back again . I only rated 4 stars simply because of the wooden board . I must also say the toilet albeit small is very clean and well kept 👌.

The cakes here looked lovely, but were not good quality. I had the mashmallow cake and it was tasteless and burnt. It looked amazing but it was just not good. The lady who served did not look like she wanted to be there. Bread addiction is absolutely oustanding and this shop should not have opened right next to them.

Incredible range of cakes, pastries and bread sold here - plus drinks and meals too! Everything that me, friends and family have tried (including burgers, bread, coffee and many cakes) we all agree is very delicious. The staff always great as well - they are always friendly and helpful in my experience and you can tell they really try their hardest. A real hidden gem of a local business that doesn't get the appreciation it deserves.

Don’t go there, they don’t want your money! I never understood why BREAD ADDICTION only two doors up were always queueing up and this guys were empty with such amazing cakes inside…Until today!!! I popped in asking if I could order a bread and the lady said they didn’t have any so I had to order it through their facebook page. I then ordered my bread and they were extremely rude, never again! I hardly do any negative reviews but these guys don’t deserve your money. Just had a quick scroll through the reviews and for the people who said they were rude the reply was a copy paste ‘sorry to hear that she is not working for me anymore’... this doesn't even make any sense and it was 5 months ago. Clearly the rude ‘person’ is still there! I messaged them saying that they were being rude and they’ve just lost and client and they replied with a thumbs up. Go to BREAD ADDICTION you won’t regret it. Bread and cakes are delicious, and staff is lovely. They are dog friendly too 😊

Food is lovely and affordably priced. Especially the sourdough sandwiches! However unfortunately the service is terrible. Staff at the till are slow and seemed like they don't know what they're doing. Real shame as its a lovely little spot.

Tried this quaint little place in Southsea, popped in with a couple of friends and had a bite to eat. Staff very friendly, food well presented, all made fresh so little waiting time but nothing drastic, reasonably priced. Some lovely looking sweet and savoury baked goods you could also take away on display. Worth checking out.

Mixed feelings. The product they produce is great. We have been several times and it is consistent and tasty, from the bread to croissant , and cakes. However there is a young skinny lady in there, and literally there is a pain on her face EVERY SINGE time a customer is there. She is so rude. She does not want to serve people and I don't understand how can the owners have someone who actually damages their business with her attitude. The lady with short hair is not much better, but definitely a lot more helpful than the other lady. All in all, great food, very bad attitude from staff, every single time with no improvement. They should get some tips from bread addiction on customer service as there is always a queue, not because it is better but a staff is a lot nicer.

Rude staff, they don't want your money. Bread is ok. Bread Addiction is much better and only two doors up.

Amazing Breads and Cakes! I've tried three kinds of their breads so far each one amazing, today I tried the custard doughnut...in most likelihood the best doughnut I have ever eaten!!! I would definitely recommend a visit.

I tried to find this place today and no luck, google took me to their warehouse and nobody answered the phone, that was after 8am the time they should be open. Can someone update the directions to the actual shop?

Really good bakery and not expensive compared to alternatives around the area. The product is made locally and too.

Today i drove several miles to this shop, website said it would be open at 8, I arrived at 8.45, the shop window claimed that it would open at 9. It didn't, i waited until almost half past, - still shut. Seriously, it isn't difficult to put a notice up, or correct the website if the hours have changed. On previous visits, it was excellent, first class coffee and great breads.
