I have recently been in Cambridge for my friends Hen do, which I organised. We were due to be visiting The Snug Grafton on Sunday 1st August for a cocktail master class which was the last activity before we travelled home on Monday. I booked this event in early June, and have had ongoing communication with the bar and also paid a deposit. On the Sunday morning we were all gearing up and getting excited about our Sunday evening of cocktail making. Little did we know, this wasn't going to happen. At 12.30pm on Sunday 1st August ( THE DAY DUE TO ATTEND THE MASTER CLASS) I received a phone from someone from the bar, saying that our master class is cancelled due to not having the trained staff to be able to carry out this event. The lady on the phone explained the bar had recently been taken over and they don't check what bookings they have until the day.. this is absolutely ridiculous. To top things off, the lady was not sympathetic and didn't understand the frustration caused. I had to break this news to 7 very excited hens, with only 6 hours until we were due to attend our class. The deposit paid I did get back today, however that doesn't resolve the issue. I find it astonishing that a company does not check what bookings they have until the day and don't pre plan events like a master class until the day. I would advise anyone who is thinking of arranging a master class at The Snug Bar, to avoid. I wouldn't want anyone to go through the same situation as myself and my hens did. I was left with the difficult job of trying to arrange another activity due to the unorganised mess the Snug Bar has caused us.

After our Christmas lunch, myself and three colleagues came here for a few cocktails (we had just been to Browns, a lovely sophisticated restaurant down the street). We were not drunk, not tipsy, just some quiet professionals having a nice quiet drink. After two cocktails each, we were refused service. The bar tender said she was not comfortable serving us as she saw us 'down' some drinks (two members of the party did down the last few swallows of a particularly sour cocktails) and decided we were drunk. She also accused us of being under the influence of drugs, which was incredibly insulting and obviously a total fabrication. We were well behaved, considerate, not rowdy, not drunk, but were refused service. The bar tender played the victim, saying that she was intimidated by us and felt unsafe, which is ridiculous. Really, really insulting that we were accused of being drunk and disorderly, under the influence of illegal substances, and were acting in an intimidating and unsafe way. Why? Because we were sat at our table, having some cocktails, enjoying each others' company. Why she chose to act this way is beyond us. We assume it's because we were a group asking for cocktails that she couldn't be bothered to make, as she appeared to be the only staff member on shift. Sheer laziness. At the time, we asked for a feedback form, a complaint form, some way to give feedback at all. This was dismissed and we were rudely told that we could leave a review on Trip Advisor. Avoid like the plague if you're a nice group of professionals looking for a friendly bar to enjoy some tasty drinks. You'll get accused of criminal activity and thrown out by lazy staff.

We first entered the snug after finishing work and decided to have some light bites and cocktails after a hard day. As we entered two of the members of staff chose to hide in the glass wash area and stare at us. This is damn right rude and should not ever happen in the bar industry. I presumed they were not able to serve but still could have said that someone would be with us in a minute. The girl who hid then proceeded to make our cocktails when we had sat down so she just couldnt be bothered to serve us at the start. We then ordered three small plates and were told it would take 10-15 minutes to make which was great. After 30 minutes we then had to ask where the food was as time was getting on. We then got our food passed over the bar which is awful customer service. We then realised that there was no mayonnaise or lemon with our calamari as it said on the menu so we had to get back up and ask for this aswell. We tried the nachos and they were chewy, stale and damn right inedible. We complained about these and one of the employees sorted this out for us straight away (the lady with long brown hair in a pony tail). We then tried the calamari which was just over seasoned, floury and inedible. We did not want to complain again so just left it. To top it all off half way through eating the food some boy came over asking if we were finished which we clearly had not. Then proceeded to give us a disgusting look like we had done something wrong. TERRIBLE SERVICE AND AWFUL FOOD. WILL NOT BE COMING BACK

I remember this place as 'The Spread Eagle' a few years ago and it was OK the couple of times I went in there but it has now become of the all too familiar pubs that have had a makeover that has drained all character out of the place. To top that off we found when we asked for a beer that all the pumps were off! There was some nondescript but intrusive music playing and the front door was wedged open so that the traffic noise added to that making conversation difficult, Thankfully I got a text from the person we were waiting for suggesting we meet somewhere else, obviously he knew Cambridge. As we walked round towards Station Road we passed a busy beer garden at The Panton Arms and also the intriguing Alma Tavern which had a poster for the Cambridge Beer Festival in the window. If only we had known...

We were a group of 8 adults and 5 kids, booked in advance for lunch on a Saturday, I should point out that for most of the time we were there we were pretty much alone, so the ensuing problems had nothing to do with them being busy. We ordered drinks ok at the bar without any real issues other than the card machines didn't seem to work. Shortly after that we ordered food but again struggled to pay because the card machines wouldn't connect to the wireless. Eventually it went through and the waitress put a sign on the door saying 'cash only' And then began the waiting..... After around 45 mins we asked if the food was coming as the kids were all starving and getting grumpy..... after about an hour the kids got their food. Apologies were given about the wait time. After about 1 hour 10 mins one pair of adults got their food. At around 1 hour 30 more food came. The waitress then said 'they were having problems and not taking any more food orders'. at around 1:45 after still not having had my food I went and demanded my money back (duly given) and then at close to two hours I finally received my complicated order of 'scrambled eggs'. To be fair the food seemed nice and maybe it was a one off but my god we'll never eat there again.

I went to visit a friend for the weekend in Cambridge. We don’t have a cocktail bar where I live and I love a nice Mojito. We called into the Snug, Friday night at about ten and it was empty, not a good sign, my friend ordered a drink at the bar and as I watched the drink being made, I know it wasn’t being made with any care or pride on behalf of the bar person; the mint wasn’t bashed to release the mint oil and the sugar syrup was forgotten. I tasted the drink, we had paid £10 for it and it was horrible, took it back and got them to put some sugar syrup in to make it at least drinkable. We left pretty quickly after that. We went to their cheaper bars during the rest of the evening and found decent cocktails. Avoid!!

I work round the corner so I sometimes pop in for a small bite and I am always served really quickly and eat in time to be able to go back to the office. The food range is nice, wish there were some vegetarian low carb options but maybe that's a bit too much to ask. Went with friends to taste their 2-4-1 cocktails and boy oh boy do they do a great job! The drinks are tasty and fiery (=actually contain alcohol!) What's also cool about the 2-4-1 deal is that not only is it on really early but also then will make your second cocktail only when you're done with the first one. Unless you wanna share it with a partner in crime ;) I digress! Great, friendly service. Highly recommend the place for Friday night drinks. My only slightly negative comment would be that the decor/furniture is a bit dated and...I would give the place a bit of a refurb. The competitors are ahead of the game in that respect. Thanks!

Difficult to express just how disappointing this place is. Recommended by a friend I was visiting the Fitzwilliam Museum nearby (admittedly they hadn't been for a while so may have changed management). Drinks were ridiculously over-priced for a venue of this kind and the service was so slow I thought, despite being the only ones in there, they'd forgotten the order. The Shrug Bar? Prior to the visit we had chosen 3 cocktails to make. The bottles, glasses etc were brought over to our table and our server showed us how to make the first cocktail, which was then shared between us while we took it in turns to make our own cocktail. We made 2 before our sharing platter arrived. The food was delicous, just not enough of it to be honest. Our third cocktail was made and then we were given a bubble gum shot. I admit I'm biased, I have fond memories of the Snug from when I was at uni 5 years ago now, but little has changed and it was absolutely delicious. Extremely friendly young staff, great music, "snug" environment. When we went in at around 5pm on a Wed it was nearly empty so it may not be surprising that our food arrived very quickly. Cocktails were buy one get one free and the two we tried were even better than imagined and utterly delicious (so we kept getting more of the same). It's my favourite place, and we both came away full, tipsy and very very happy.

We were pointed to our seats by the only member of staff serving the bar and the food and told he would be over soon. We waited 25 minutes before I went up to the bar to ask that he take our order as we were in a bit of a rush and was told there was a half hour wait on food. So we wouldn't make the film. We hadn't even had drinks orders taken. God knows how they cope when the restaurant is busy. Anyway, we got our coats and walked out. Had a very substandard Burger King and went to the film on time. The waitress then advised us that they only had 3 steaks left. When the food arrived the 3 times cooked chips with the steaks were burnt beyond recognition. When we raised this with the waiter he said it was the spices they used ..... But these were not spicy chips. The thin fries that came with the burger were greasy and cold. 2 of the steaks we ordered as medium / raw yet all 3 steaks came well done. We were advised that the chef was new and getting used to cooking. The front of house staff were very apologetic and polite. A very disappointing meal and would definitely not recommend.

Normally a safe bet. They came in a cereal bowl (weird) stale tortilla chips, a small dollop each of sour cream, guacamole and salsa. Enough jalapeño peppers to sink a small ship and a tiny sprinkling of grated cheese. And that was it. Straight from the packets to the table, not shown to the grill to melt the cheese and still in a cereal bowl!!!! My son had a sausage and egg bap - that was a sorry looking specimen too!

I've been here a few times for drinks with friends. It's been newly renovated, not that anything really seemed to change other than a new area at the front with power-plugs for laptops. The bar is small and cramped, and often full. There is a seating area outside for summer, but not much use when it's cold. Inside the atmosphere is normally good, and the staff polite, friendly and helpful.Well situated close to the centre of town, and on the way to the station. Although there are much nicer pubs just round the corner from it. It's also more expensive than other pubs around.Unfortunately for a pub in the University city of Cambridge, the management demonstrate their lack of understanding of the constituent parts of language by spraying grammatically incorrect sayings on their walls.

Our food order was taken very quickly but I have to say the actual wait for the food was a little slow - not that we were too fussed as we were deep into a card game of yaniv at this point! The food itself was a little disappointing - the burger I had was slightly overcooked and didn't quite live up to the description on the menu. Overall a little average. The vegetarian platter that two other friends shared was rated fairly highly however.Overall it was a good experience; especially if you are just coming here just for a place to meet with friends and enjoy their cocktails.

Well been there twice and should have stopped after the first time, however on both occasions, it takes ages to get the food once ordered even if it is a starter let alone a main course. So if you have a lot of patience and time, do visit.Note: noticed that on both occasions it is staffed poorly with one server for the entire place and also one bar tender.

Shame we don't live in Cambridge otherwise we'd love to visit this great bar/eatery on a regular basis. Highly recommend.

Foods ok, reasonable price and quality, nothing special though. Poor desert menu. Not the best bit about the place though. Staff very good - extremely friendly, very attentive and they take your order at the table. 241 cocktails - every day 3pm-9pm, even Fri/Sat which is good. There's a lot to chose from, 50+ I reacon. Expensive at £8-9 each but at 241 very reasonable

Our waitress was very welcoming and friendly although the food was a bit boring and not ever so flavourful. The nachos sounded great on the menu but unfortunately didn't match up to the description.I might come again to the try the cocktails as we didn't get a chance this time. The music was good, but I probably wouldn't recommend the Snug to anyone.

I came here with 2 other friends for a quick bite for lunch. After we ordered, we were waited around 40 minutes, with no sign of food. We asked our waitress, who came back very red faced and admitted she had forgotten to put the order through in the kitchen. She was very apologetic, but we had to wait an additional 30 minutes for our food to come out. The food was nice enough, but nothing to write home about. When we asked for the bill, I asked for a discount, as we were waiting well over an hour for food, in the end. The manager was courteous, and gave us 1/3 off without any fuss. Good job it was induction week, and our time was flexible. Not really a place to come when you are pushed for time on a lunch break. So all in all, nice enough, but there are better places in the area.

We were staying at the Royal Cambridge Hotel just over the road from The Snug, and were bored with the food there, so we decided to give the snug a try......The food menu is not large by any stretch of the imagination, but me and my husband both decided to settle for the chicken stack. Service was fast and the food was very tasty - a little on the expensive side in our opinion, but it seemed to be the going rate in Cambridge. Now for the drinks......Every day between 15:00 and 21:00 they have a 2-4-1 deal on their 'favourite' cocktails list. We obviously had to try a few, and they were very, very good. Under the 2-4-1 deal they are also very good value for money. Therefore, in our opinion, the service was very good, the food was tasty and the drinks were delicious. Well worth a visit, and we will be back when we're next in Cambridge.

My family and I ate here twice last weekend and on both occasions the food was excellent (especially the chunky chips), as was the beer, staff were friendly and prices were average for the area, on the friday evening there was even a raffle to have your bar tab paid. the one drawback with the Snug is that service, apparently, can be slow, we waited an hour for our food on saturday afternoon when the place wasn't even busy.

Both bartenders were very friendly, and gave us directions to a good curry place. The zinfandel was lovely, and my friend very much enjoyed her draft cider. We did not take advantage of the happy hour, but it looked good. It's two for one cocktails between 15:00-19:00 every day. It's only for select cocktails of course, but it's a very good selection. And if you don't like what you see on the happy hour menu, there is an ENORMOUS selection to choose for. We didn't eat there, but everything that came out look absolutely delicious. Would absolutely go back and brings my friends with me.

I visited the Snug with two business associates for dinner, it is a good welcoming pub/restaurant with a great atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and attentive which made a for the rather limited beer selection they had on the day we were there. The food was ok, I suspect pitched at the student market both in terms of the selection available and the price. It was ok but I would normally pay more and expect more.

My boyfriend and I were doing our own walking tour of Cambridge and were getting a bit tired, a bit cold and looking for somewhere to warm up.We happened upon the Snug and went in. The decor and furnishings really do make the place seem snug, and very cosy. The wait staff were very friendly, but I think a little disappointed in our order of tea, hot chocolate and some comforting deserts. However, a few other patrons did put their cocktail making skills to the test - and I can tell you - it was impressive.I had a treacle sponge with custard and it was delicious. I loved every bite and it was the perfect thing to restore me for a walk around the Botanic Gardens. We just relaxed and rejuvenated ourselves and did not feel at all rushed. I would definitely recommend.

I am rarely compelled to complain in restaurants let alone take to a keyboard to register my dissatisfaction - as the lack of previous reviews will testify! However, a brief breakfast before a midday meeting left me with such a feeling of disbelief that I had little option than to vent my frustration and save my dog!I entered 'The Snug' and was happy enough with the surroundings, the one member of staff was also pleasant enough and provided menus and took our orders. The food arrived in around 5-10 minutes,- no problem - but the eggs benedict and the american pancakes my eating partner and I had ordered were quite astonishing! I don't know who they had working out the back but I presume they were a misogynist of the highest order. The eggs benedict: two burnt halves of english muffin topped with packet ham - described as gammon - and two cold poached egg swimming in cold hollandaise - mmmmm! My partner fared no better with what tasted like value pancakes set to with a blow torch, cold fried banana and stale sugar. When I asked for the bill in disgust, having attempted a few mouthfuls, I was asked whether everything was to our satisfaction...I obviously said no, explaining that it was burnt and cold, to which the - quite pleasant and newly arrived - waitress replied that she would pass on our comments; I am sure the Crippen wannabe in the kitchen was mortified! So - I won't be going back there and, to be honest, I still get chest pains just thinking about the price of the bloody meal - £18-00! For eggs benedict, pancakes a coffee and a coke! I have to stop now and go for a lie down.

After locking myself out on a rainy Monday evening, I decided to avail myself of the shelter that is The Snug whilst waiting to be rescued. Just a short walk from my front door, I have been into this establishment on quite a few occasions but strangely never thought to review.I am normally tempted by the fantastic cocktails (which deserve a review of their own!) but this evening stuck to a soft drink and dinner. The food is what I would classify as 'pub fare' but so nicely done that it is a pleasure to eat there. Rib eye steak cooked exactly how I requested, friendly staff and nice surroundings (which are small but perfectly formed). When the sun shines the outside tables are full, and even on a Monday there was a nice buzz about the place.I must forget my keys more often :)

You won't go hungry here with the Snug's new food menu. Looking for something light I had a panini, which was still huge and a friend of mine (who says he is used to having his main meal for lunch), had the double trouble burger and confessed defeat towards the end. The staff are super friendly and the pub has a good choice of beers and with the TV going in the background you can keep up to date with the latest sports news, but this was not overwhelming like a Walkabout. Surprisingly not dominated by students.

I have frequented the snug many a time in the last 2 years since moving to the Cambridge area and have generally loved the place. We have chosen it as our go to place for the 6 nations and love the cocktails they offer for the big events. However a change in both the cocktail menu and the food menu has been good and bad. The good: the cocktail menu is immense and each cocktail is expertly done, mixed with the 2-4-1 is brilliant and before you know it you have tried 6 cocktails in a row you have never hear of. VERY GOOD! However the bad: recently I have ordered some of the food which has been badly done. Today I ordered the new ribs and its looked amazing when it came out but somehow the cook forgot to cook it. I bit into it to find it cold and worst of all strill dripping in blood. This obviously put me off eating despite the Managnent offering to make me another so I got a refund (all be it minus my gratuity tip). Still it's a good place and the staff and Managnent are really nice just the foods not great....

Came to the snug about a month ago and food was good. So i brought friends along. Portion size is very small, only got 11 chips in a mug and cost over £2.50. When I commented on the portion size being smaller the barman had only just joined so asked another man (more 'experienced') who shouted across the bar that its "same price but bigger portions" you only need eyes to see this was not the case. When I went up to the bar a while later the experienced barman laughed at the fact that we commented (not complained). Overall very rude and overconfident senior staff and a complete rip off.

I have been to the Snug before and it seemed ok, so I returned with a few people for a goodbye lunch for a colleague. We all had a look at the lunchtime menu which had some deals on it, and 3 of us ordered burgers. The food was alright, nothing spectacular, but you can't go too far wrong with a bacon cheeseburger.I was annoyed to find when our food was brought out that 2 of us were given the "full burger meal" and one of us (apparently the only one who had pointed directly to the lunchtime menu when ordering) got the lunchtime burger, despite it being 1pm, and that the only menu on our table was the lunchtime one. The difference? A pot of coleslaw the size of a custard cream. The price difference? £5. I unfortunately paid first out of the 3 of us, so it was only after payment I realised this ridiculous price difference. I pointed this out to the barman who served us, who acknowledged the price difference but otherwise said nothing. I will not be eating there again.

Judging by its' menu, the snug is more of a bar than a restaurant. At lunchtime more focus is needed on a short, fresh menu, removing the clutter of sticky paperwork offering an uninviting(at lunchtime anyway) . The interior is brown. Very brown. And rather sticky, possibly with the residues of the night before. Judging by the menu, this is a boil-in the bag or stick it in the microwave offer. I must confess to having visited twice this week, largely because it is the nearest joint to my workplace and both times I needed lunch in a hurry, once with a friend, once with a business colleague. Neither good; the food that is, the company was sparkling and witty. Fish and chips particularly dire, the small size sounded good for a girly at lunchtime, but was in fact a dried up tail of batter from the freezer. On both visits, spaced a week apart, the coffee machine was broken. A large screen at the end of the bar plays the news, complete with oft hysterically mistranslated subtitles for the deaf. The place was pretty empty. I'm sure you can get a decent cocktail in the evening, but by day I would head down Trumpington street to Browns for an altogether more vibrant atmosphere and better food.
