Visited on a Saturday afternoon with my 6 year old son. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food, one of the best burgers I've had for a long time. Pleasant, friendly service and good music.

Popped in on our way back to the hotel after our evening meal. Service at the bar was efficient and the drinks were as they should be. We sat outside to drink and it was good to see that there were heaters above some of the tables.

It was a Thursday lunchtime and the place was deserted. The staff were nice and attentive when we arrived, but the food was terrible. I genuinely felt the battered fish was day2 and had been recooked. Strangely nobody did the usual "is the food okay" check.

Came for a last minute bottomless brunch ! Amazing service, Rachel made sure we constantly had drinks and was VERY friendly too, first time here for a brunch but will definitely return ❤️

Had a last min bottomless brunch with my girlfriend, which was served by Rachel. It was mint! The food was pretty good drinks were lush too. All credit to Rachel for the constant flow of drinks which really helped us get our moneys worth. Will come back.

What a fab experience! A bottle of Prosecco on arrival with a sparkler in it and some funky heart-shaped glasses. Super cute decor, it was decorated for Halloween when we visited. Would definitely recommend! Also love the later seating times :)

Have done quite a few bottomless brunches including one here almost a year ago- cannot fault the place itself as it is lovely however, upon arrival it was a very fast and polite service by someone called Rachel but about an hour and a half In we had not been asked for another drink order (had been 35 minutes since the previous one and we had drank our drinks on our table) when we got our drinks order we were told that we must be off the table within the next 10 minutes as the table was reserved which we understood. They then came round less then 5 minutes before we had to leave asking if we wanted another drink which we said yes to however then got told to leave the table and did not receive our final drink. Not the best experience I have had at a S&L.

I always feel bad giving such low reviews, especially since this is more of a policy thing, but it really affected my night. Slug and lettuce have a policy that for big bookings you need to put down a deposit of £40. That is of course, understandable; they want a deposit because it is a larger risk if you don’t come. I had a booking of 21 people for my 21st birthday yesterday, so I paid the deposit in advance. This deposit is only redeemable on the night for food and drink. This was also an understandable detail which shouldn’t have been a problem because we were, of course, going to spend more than £40. On the day of the booking (also my birthday) they called me in the afternoon asking for the food orders. I don’t know why they called me so last minute but it meant I had to spend my birthday collecting 20 food orders, which was less than ideal. A point for improvement would have been to tell me this when I made the booking (or if they did put it somewhere, make it a lot more clear). Another fine detail they only told us when we got there was that it was bar service only, and everyone would have to go up to the bar individually to get their drinks, and also pay for the food they ordered. Fine, that makes sense since we were all paying separately. I was one of the last people to come up and I asked “About my deposit of £40, can I get that back separately, because on my own I’m not going to spend £40 on just my food and drink?” The man said “No, it’s only redeemable for food and drink on the night. Also, I don’t see any deposit here, are you sure you’ve paid it?” I said “I’ve definitely paid it.” The man checked again. “Oh I see you have paid it.” 🤦‍♀️I said ”Because we’re definitely spending more than £40 tonight together can we not just get the deposit back separately” The man said again that was not possible, but I could apply for some sort of refund online. Exactly what I want to spend my birthday doing. Eventually, the way it was resolved is we found one of the few people who had not paid for their food yet and I paid for it with the deposit. There was £1 left from the deposit. I don’t know where that £1 is, but I don’t think I’m going to see it again. But it is not why I’m writing this review. I’m writing because there were several problems with this policy. 1. What would have happened if everyone had paid for their food? The man said I could apply for a refund, which would have a chance of being rejected, which was not what I wanted to do. I could have spent the extra which I didn’t want to spend, which honestly feels a bit like a scam to me, and isn't nice because it was my birthday, and I am just a student. 2. The man misheard someone and they paid for the wrong thing. This was an honest mistake but I had to stress about who had paid for the wrong thing and what we were going to do about it. The attitude was a bit like, “Here is a problem, you have to sort it out” rather then “Don’t worry, we’ll work out what’s gone wrong”. 3. What if I hadn’t even remembered to ask about the deposit? It wasn’t even showing up as paid, so would I have completely lost the £40 if I had not asked? It kinda of ruined the dinner a bit because there was a lot of stress. I am a bit of a worrier and I wanted to make sure everyone was having a good time, but at the same time didn’t want anyone to be dining and dashing. I had a lot of anxiety the whole night. I don’t want to write a really mean review because I want to be fair; but whilst the food came on time and the atmosphere was okay, I had a very stressful night and I especially didn’t feel like it was very special for my birthday. I know this was a policy thing rather than an issue with the staff itself, but there were steps they could of taken that could have made the policy better (for example, seeing that I had the deposit and making sure it was spent so I didn’t lose any of it). I am sorry for the bad review, but even more sorry that I can’t get the night of my 21st birthday back.

Extremley rude bar staff demanding ID from our party who where all drinking Zero Alcohol mocktails. Would certainly avoid and tell others to do the same.

Updated - due to a message asking why I'd left a 2 star rating but no justification, I thought I'd take the time to explain why I disliked my visit to the Slug and Lettuce Durham. I originally felt the service I received wasn't worth the time and effort to write a reason. I visited the Slug and Lettuce in Durham mid December as part of a works Christmas night out. There were at least 30 of us in our group. I spent around 20 minutes in the venue, most of that time waiting to be served (it was busy with people from our group). After being served a very expensive drink, I went outside to find a member of our group who was lost. I was outside for all of 5 minutes. I got to back find door staff who told me that I couldn't go back in to my group as I didn't have a reservation. An extremely disappointing visit resulting in 30 of us leaving after a single drink (in my case no drink as I didn't get to consume the one I bought) despite planning to spend the evening at the Slug and Lettuce.

Only an afternoon quick drink. Very large establishment & a mission to get to toilets.

Incredibly disappointed with our visit today. We were booked for 3pm for bottomless brunch for 4, and even though the place was almost empty with only a few tables,we were completely ignored by the staff who didn't welcome us, kept talking amongst themselves and had a very abrupt and unfriendly attitude when we were eventually acknowledged. There was another customer at the bar complaining that her and her friends had been waiting half an hour for drinks (let me reiterate that the place was nearly empty), and unfortunately had already prepaid,otherwise the group said they would go elsewhere. The attitude the staff had with the lady was also very abrupt and unconcerned. While we were waiting there to be acknowledged, another staff member dropped a tray of drinks and left the spills on the floor. It's such a shame as I've been a couple times before and it was 5*! But it's put us off returning due to the awful customer service that left us feeling unwelcome. We did manage to get a last minute booking in at Turtle Bay and they were the total opposite, great service, staff kind and attentive.

Went out with friends and this pub is highly recommended. DJ played very nice music, security staff did their job very well and above all, one staff named Regs stood out amongst others. She is friendly, and accommodating and made sure our needs attended. She deserves a promotion or reward. Keep it up!

Tainted experience. Was there with a large party of colleagues. Asked the DJ to play a song and was told he was instructed not to play anything pre 2000. Spoke with manager to give feedback. He said that to play the song wasn't the image they wanted to portray and to accept my request would mean they would have to play other similar customer requests too. I was quite amicable, made my point, said that surely if customers were happy they would stay longer and spend more. Expressed disappointment and explained my party would be moving on now. The manager said I was being unreasonable but did agree to request a song by the chosen artist post 2000. Played half a song then mixed it out. The crux of the conversation with the manager was an eye opening insight and my perception is that my generation are not really the customer base S&L were aiming for and hospitality was second to image. On top of this two colleagues we spoken to rudely by a server and told "can you move". They weren't in her way. We also paid £3 more for a bottle of wine than we had in similar bars. Overall a disappointing experience. Sorry we didn't fit S&L's corporate image.

Went to join colleagues on my work do and the bouncers wouldn’t let me in. At first they told me I would have to wait 30 mins and then when one of my party had tried to ask the bouncers if I could come in they decided that I wasn’t coming in at all. This was at 7pm and I was completely sober and not in anyway kicking up a fuss. Absolutely disgraceful, avoid !!

I went to s&l on the 19th of November 2023 for bottomless brunch with a few friends and the service, food and drinks were fantastic!!! Lizzie and reggs were brilliant and kept us topped up and made sure our experience was top tier, will 100%...

Decent place nice atmosphere had no problem really getting to the bar and getting a drink. Only problem was most tables seemed to be reserved.

Had a fab experience sampling Christmas cocktails on a mini honeymoon. Barman was really friendly and cocktails were made super quick, would definitely go back with friends for the 2 for 1 cocktail deals!

Absolutely stunning brunch venue and delicious food. Special mention to Rachel our waitress today who went above and beyond to ensure we had a fab time. She was very attentive, smiley and approachable. Overall 10/10 service, there were constant drinks flowing and our glasses were never dry! This is the second time we have attended for bottomless brunch, both times have been fantastic, 100% recommended especially for the price of £33 each!

Danielle was professional and attentive and made our bottomless brunch a joy. She took time out to chat to us and was very pleasant. My butter chicken was overdone and burnt on the outside but ok on the inside. My friends burger was perfect though.

We went here for bottomless brunch on Saturday and couldn't fault the service and drinks. Some places like this are really stingy with BB and the drinks are weaker than a youtuber in a boxing fight but cant say that about the slug. Prosecco on the table at all times and £33 for 2 hours, burgers etc... are decent enough, just avoid the ciabatta as its 2 small pieces of bread, properly silly. Definitely recommend, just get a normal meal.

Good atmosphere but the app is terrible, was waiting 1 hour for drinks and they never got delivered the whole night, ended up having to dispute the charge after an hour and a half of waiting and nothing being delivered.
