Quaint pub and good beer. Do not allow dogs inside in the holiday season. Food questionable. Not sure how you can spoil sausage and mash, maybe undercook the sausage and use some old gravy. Anyway the dog enjoyed the sausage. Great staff in a nice setting.

My birthday treat. Stopped in for a hot chocolate in the morning then walked on the Abercastle. Both drink and Bara Brith were lovely. Returned in evening and had Caesars salad and an epic Apple and Cherry crumble. Lovely range of beers and staff attentive and a pleasure to engage with. Porthgain is a quirky place and the Sloop fits in well. Also electric chargers available in the carpark

I love this place. It's not the easiest pub to get to, but well worth the effort. It can get busy, but the staff have always been cheerful, the food has always been excellent and if the sun is out, the patio area is an excellent place to watch the world go by and soak up the sun.

Not the cheapest place to eat, there again nowhere is these days, but definitely a cut above your average pub. We had a shared starter, 2 main courses, a glass of wine, tomato juice and 2 coffees in total just under £54. Starter was squid rings and we were a little taken aback when only 3 came out at just over £8. However they were quite big and the lemon mayonnaise was lovely and tasted home made. Probably some of the best I’ve had tbh so no complaints. I had the “famous” Cawl and I can confirm this is not hyperbole as it was quite simply delicious, with lots of lovely tender lamb, even enough for a few scraps for the dog. Have had a few Cawls in my time and this was easily the best. She who must be obeyed had the Chicken Caesar and her only criticism was that it was a bit too peppery for her, but that’s just personal taste and was otherwise excellent. Staff were efficient and friendly, dogs were allowed but the area set aside is a little restricted, but overall top marks.

Absolutely AMAZING food, literally the best roast dinner I have ever had. Food cooked to perfection in every way, utterly delicious. Lamb tender and tasty, so much so I forgot to add the mint sauce - it didn't need it. Veg delish and cauliflower cheese was proper home cooked deliciousness. Also had the Crème Brulee for pudding - again best I've ever had. Yummy creamy underneath with perfectly crispy caramelised sugar on top. Highly recommend The Sloop Inn, will remember the food here for a long time to come. Many thanks 😊

All round fantastic pub. We visit a few times a year. It's Family friendly with seating outside for sunny days. And next to the green so kids can run around. Wide range on the menu and so far it all tastes amazing. Seasonal with dogs being allowed in the bar in winter months otherwise dogs outside all year round. Really fantastic pub, a gem for food and so convenient for exploring the gorgeous scenery.

After heading out on a windy and stormy November day, we were looking forward to stopping off in this charming pub with its stone floors and open fire. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see any of it apart from a cold patio as they don’t allow dogs in. Quite why, I have no idea as it’s off season and a rustic pub. Hot chocolate was tasty but went cold quickly due to sitting outside! Think they are missing a trick here! Several dog walkers were left outside.

We visit this pub every time we are in the area. It is our ‘port in a storm’ literally! The food is always great and service is wonderful. This time we lost power at our holiday cottage so with no power and no phone reception they welcomed us and, as well as a lovely meal and a warm fire, they allowed me to use their phone and charge mine, and were lovely to our two young children. Thoroughly recommend! See you next time!

This really stood out on the night.... all I seem to remember is... this ...miserable dark haired girl / lady that served us at the table with these ....big fake lashes.... she was really grumpy! she got the table wrong when dishing out the orders?. We politely smiled and said, "we are here," and she looked so angry for us helping out. Even held the door for her when we left, and not even a thankyou. Rude..rude...... I hate that poor customer service. We didn't feel welcomed at all. And why? For being polite! Really noisy outside. I felt a bit intimidated going upto the pub and the clientelle outside it......... not much parking. Food was average...sorry x The houmous was runny and not of great quality?. More houmous than pitta. Olives were lovely, though. The lady on the phone was really polite and accommodating.
