Great find on a bike ride. Didn’t know the pub but basically say a sign in the main road and followed it. Lovely little village with art galleries and a small harbour. The pub was great, good service, great food (mussels and chips) and a lovely proper pub atmosphere. Really cosy and welcoming.

We loved this cosy pub in Porthgain. We had hake on the specials board which was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed and the staff were lovely too. I also had a non-alcoholic gin which was delicious.

No disabled access. I left my husband to go to the sloop while I went off up the mountain. When I came back he was still waiting outside as there was no way for him to get up the steps. What’s the point in having disabled loos if they can’t get to them. Really disappointed ☹️!

Spent a week in Porthgain in October 24 and made a list of all dog friendly places to eat, on entering the pub we were told that dogs were not allowed until November 1st but we were allowed outside with the dog, it was a very cold day and rainy, we certainly didn’t relish sitting outside eating a meal that would probably cost around £50 for both of us, I think they are obviously missing a trick here, so many people with dogs around and turning away business.

Quite hard to get to but well worth it. Came here on a wet and windy evening for some dinner, as recommended by our friends who live in the area. Though most of the tables were reserved, the staff were very friendly in directing us to a table that wasn't reserved for a good few hours. We both ordered a child's battered cod bites and chips as we're not very big eaters. Was very delicious and just the right portion size. We adored the decor, so unique and cozy, especially on a day like it was. There were pictures around where we were sitting showing how the area used to look which was very interesting. Would love to come back here again if we are ever in the area.

We have been to this deligtful pub every year for at least 10 years so let's start with a positive. The staff were/are fantastic. However what we have noticed over the years is a general reduction of food quality. What is particularly noticeable is that the "Specials" are not special anymore but more an extension of the standard menu.

the restaurant closes at 3pm and we got there around 14:55 while I ordered separately with our friends. My friend was literally queuing behind me but when it was his turn, they told us they could no longer take our order because it’s past 15:00. None of us has heard of this and this wasn’t written anywhere obvious in the restaurant. Even though they knew we sat together, they still refused saying the kitchen is closed when I just placed my order 3 seconds ago. Meanwhile luckily another table was also unaware of this and missed their order time. Both tables were arguing about this and they continued refusing us for about 10 min but all of a sudden said it’s okay they’ll do it for the last order. Never seen anything so ridiculous and extremely poor service!! Guess they would expect our friend watching us eating. If you close at 3pm, it shouldn’t be hard to mention sth like “is this everything you’d like cos you can’t place any further order after 3pm”. 🤷♂️ Btw you pay £9 for 3 squid rings!! This is more luxury than london no jokes

We were on holiday in West Wales last week and happened to be visiting Porthgain at lunchtime. My daughter has a gluten intolerance and some other food intolerances. On previous visits The Sloop wasn’t able to offer her much, so this was the first time we dined here. Wow!!🤩 It must be under new ownership or something. A great choice of food for the 3 of us. All gluten free items clearly marked. The staff were very well versed on what items were gluten free and the choice was amazing! My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the most delicious coconutty chicken korma, with rice, poppadoms, some chips and chutney. She said it was the best curry she had ever eaten and was able to have a gluten free homemade sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream afterwards too, and a Welsh coffee. Plus they had some lovely cold drinks available. We sat on table number 13 in the corner overlooking the harbour. Such a beautiful interesting pub inside too. Staff very obliging and we all had delicious food. I enjoyed the Glamorgan sausages and my husband enjoyed a huge piece of cod in crispy batter with his chips and peas. What a find and a treat. Will definitely return when we next come back to the area.

This has been our local pub for our last two holidays in Pembrokeshire and we've really enjoyed it there. Very relaxed and the food is great. There is a really good varied menu and also specials. Dogs are only allowed outside but there is a lovely seating area over looking Porthgain and down towards the harbour. For saying how busy it gets, the food and service is always quick. If you want a table inside during summer months it does seem necessary to book as it's always busy. Kids love that they can get a Mr Whippy for dessert 😄 Can definitely recommend.

3 of us ate the sloop whilst on holiday. As regular sloop-comers, we are pleased to say the atmosphere is fantastic and the food delicious - classic pub grub! Unquestionably one of the best (if not the best coastal pub in the county). As ever the food was served piping hot and carefully prepared. The staff were attendant but not intrusive and their attention to detail re food allergies was some of the best I've encountered. Fish pie was plentiful and delicious and the bruschetta starter was garlicky and a meal in itself. I find it almost impossible to square some of the negative comments found in these reviews with my experiences over a number of years.

Having read the reviews, we were hoping for a good meal. Sadly, we were disappointed. I ordered monk fish from the specials board. The fish was dry, overcooked and tasteless. The tender stem broccoli overcooked and I had a bout 3 sliced of sautéed potato . My husband asked for Moules. As it was still April, still had an 'R' in the month and we were just by the sea, we thought they would be fresh. (Should have asked first, I guess). In fact they were vacuum packed, over cooked and came with a thick, white glutenous sauce. A very disappointing meal and won't go back again.

To be honest the wait was definitely not worth the wait. Seafoods basket was not with the price to get 2 prawns, 4 small cod courgettes and 6 pieces of calamari, we substituted the whitebait for extra calamari (included in 6 pieces). Disappointed in food only.

Nice atmosphere. I ordered a burger (£18.50). I gave up eating it half way through due to the number of gristly bits I had to spit out. It came with a pot of coleslaw which I did not touch because it had a gluey film across the top, like it had been left out for a long time. My boyfriend mentioned the issue with the burger when the plates were collected and was told they would give the feedback to the butcher! Glad we could be of service to the butcher but would have appreciated money off the bill or a complimentary dessert or something (even an apology that I didn't enjoy it would have been nice). Sadly cannot recommend.

We visited this pub about 2 years ago and a lovely meal, so on our return visit to Tenby we were keen to go back. We phoned and booked a table for 4 and arranged a taxi home. On arrival we were advised that they were short staffed so might be a delay, which we were fine with. We duly ordered our food, however 5 minutes later, told that the dishes 3 of us had chosen were not available. However on going for another choice, advised that wasn’t available either. The menu option thus became very limited, but as we had travelled out of Tenby we had no alternative but to stay. The meal was very bland and very disappointing. We understood that staff can cancel without much notice, but not being able to offer the advertised menu, especially as we had booked and could have been given this information then, is not good service. We won’t be returning and would not recommend.
