WOW!!! WHAT CAN I SAY? myself, my wife and her father have just had fish and chips each. That was the best fish and chips we've eaten in years!!! Crispy batter, good size fish, delicious chips and peas. We each enjoyed our meal. If you're in the area, make a booking and have a fantastic tasting meal. Genuinely, I loved my meal. Thank you so much for our tasty meals. It's been a pleasure relaxing here.

We had been informed by a local in another village that this pub was only one in town now that The Glen Affric Hotel was knocked down(horrified to hear this since we used to frequent it’s pub/restaurant when we came up for holidays at Shenval) We decided to go in for a drink on our way back from Loch Affric on our bikes one evening & were pleasantly surprised by how nice the owner was behind the bar…..so much so that drinks turned into dinner and what a yummy meal it was…..all home-cooked & bill not too expensive at end of night. Fabulous old pics on pub walls of the dam builders from 1949(which is how Cannich town came about to house them all)& the shinty teams of old inc the local chap who invented this dangerous but great game!

Absolutely the worst service I’ve ever had. If you’re not eating you’re not drinking. We visited for a week and on the second night at 8:30 Mr personality the suspected owner replied to our request for a 3rd drink with sorry lad you’re the only 2 in we’re closing. ‘Lad’ I’m 57. I wouldn’t give them another penny of my cash if I was dying of dehydration. In short abysmal service in a dump of a pub.

My girlfriend and I were on a short weekend tour around Inverness, and heading home from Glen Afric decided to stop in for a drink. The Covid Pandemic was on, so were prepared for the fact it may be bookings only. There's a sign on the door saying minimum £10 charge when paying by card. (Why this should be, I'm not sure, seems to be merely a tax on not having cash since there's no cash point for some distance) Having asked politely at the door if we could come in for a drink, and been greeted somewhat coldly, we were told to sit on a sofa at the back of the pub as they were expecting bookings. This we did, giving due understanding that we were dropping in unannounced.I went to the bar and ordered a pint, a half pint, and a bag of crisps, and asked if we could have a soup and a roll to take the order over their £10 minimum. The barman explained that they couldn't provide food without a booking and so it was "ok" in this instance. I said that was very kind (expecting he meant waiving the £10 minimum) as I was having to pay by card. As he presented the terminal to me to pay, he kept the screen with the amount tilted away. I tried to bring it closer to have a look at the total, but he pulled it away from me as I tried again saying it was "ok".At this point I should have insisted and asked, but thought he may have been doing this out of respect for social distancing and presented my contactless card to the terminal. (Wasn't offered a receipt) I thanked him and took my drinks.Needless to say I was charged £10 for something costing just over £6 without this being expressly agreed at the time. Left a very bad taste in addition to the general atmosphere of being made to feel like unwanted customers. Did not feel welcome once with the added insult of being fleeced for not having cash.I understand there is a Pandemic on, but it's no excuse. We would have thanked them and left politely if they had explained they really couldn't take us.If you're thinking of stopping in and offering your business I'd advise you to think twice. If you do decide to go in, I'd count your change and read your receipts carefully.

We ate at The Slaters last night as it was within staggering distance of our campsite and we were not disappointed. It's fair to say we were expecting basic pub grub out of a jar but we were so wrong.Everything was fresh, homemade and utterly delicious. The garlic chilli chicken curry I had was amazing. We then went visiting Glen Affric up to Mullardoch Dam to some beautiful scenery one of my favourite places in Scotland to visit. On the return journey we decided to go into the Slaters Arms for some food as it was getting late. Walked in and the bar man looked us up and down and then asked “if we were having food” in a very disparaging manner as if we were actually putting him out. He then went on to make us feel about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit. We left promptly and drove to Beauly and had the most lovely meal in the Priory with awesome customer service. I suggest that the couple who run this hotel go for some serious customer service training. Happy to suggest a few places for them.

A previous reviewer described this place as “Deliverance meets Hills Have Eyes” and I can see the resemblance! Inside the place was seventies decor - cheap and soulless. There were multiple laminated signs everywhere telling customers what they could and could not do. We were a party of four and were the only people in on a weekday lunch. The welcome from the female owner was as cold as ice as she thrust menus in our hands and pointed us to the dining area - she then spent most of the time on her laptop in a kind of public office! The male owner had the finesse of Lurch from the Addams family and there were no pleasantries. Having said all this the food was actually very good - fresh and well cooked. Plates were collected with no question of approval by Lurch - no desserts nor coffee were offered - time to leave and get some sweets from the Spar next door with the ultra friendly staff. Come on guys - I know we can have bad days but don’t let visitors think that this is Scottish hospitality. In comparison we had super friendly service from happy staff at the Dores Inn, the Clachnaharry Inn and the White House in Inverness.

We arrived just after 6pm on a wet Tuesday night to the Slaters Arms in the hopes of a nice meal in a comfortable atmosphere as advertised outside....... Sadly from the moment we arrived we were made to feel so unwelcome it ruined the entire meal. If our circumstances had been different we would have left before even ordering but with a hungry 4 year old and 6 month old we decided to stay. The menu was unappealing and there were a number of items on the menu unavailable. We're unsure if our unfriendly reception on arrival was due to us being a family but within the menu there was a warning to be responsible and ensure children remain seated at all times so they are not scalded which seemed quite aggressive. We don't let our children disturb other diners when we are out but perhaps we had been judged as soon as we arrived. All in all we couldn't get out of there fast enough.

We had our dog with us so were sitting in the dog friendly area of the restaurant. What can I say that was positive about this experience? Terrible attitude by what I think were the owners, unhelpful and as one other review has stated, they are in the wrong job, particularly the older male manager / owner. We placed a food order with him, for him to not look me in the eye or even register our existence. Poor quality food at over inflated prices - shepherds pie was some pieces of beef covered in mashed potato for £12. Hot chocolate brownie dry and pretty awful; £6. We queried how something so bad can still exist, and decided that people go once and then leave the area as they are visiting, never to return again! I always tip for a meal - fist time in my life I haven’t. I never write reviews either but have felt the need for the first time. Very poor. Decor and atmosphere akin to something from the 1970’s - badly needs updating including the staff!

To be honest, I can’t rate the food as we never got that far. We knew we’d have to book for an evening meal so we walked down into the village and thought we’d pop in and maybe have a bit of lunch. Whilst checking out the menu we could see that they were closed but should’ve been open by 12, so we waited for 10 mins or so in the rain (despite someone inside knowing we were there!). It turned 12 and 2 more people appeared and tried the door & still they just gawped out at us !! By this time my wife & daughters we’re sheltering next to the local Spar - I moved away to be informed by a local ‘it should be open soon’ to which I replied ‘if he can’t be bothered to open when people are clearly waiting (in the rain) then I’ll not burden him with my custom’ !! My girls said at least 2 other people walked up and tried to get in whilst we debated what to do. The Spar shop got our (repeated) custom instead and were very friendly & helpful.

An awful atmosphere served with awful food. While the dog was allowed (only +) on the lead, the owners dogs were free to move around freely and beg for food at our table. As for our food, it was closed to the worst we have ever been served. Finally the owner attitude was simply inacceptable. Could not decide what to eat (because nothing was appealling!) and the owner give me that attitude that i was being difficult. Should have simply walked out. Got sick on the way home.

We were staying in Cannich so this was the only place within strolling distance - best to pre-book a table if possible as the place was pretty full....we both had the steak pie with veg....it was fab....had the side of mushrooms which were also delicious. Service was friendly and the waitress apologised up front that she was running behind - despite a small delay in ordering, the food arrived promptly and was fab. Prices were reasonable and all the staff were friendly. Would definitely return :o)

Local pub / bar food, friendly boss and staff , massive portions, but overpriced, food could do with some flavour, but over all an OK average place to eat.

Really rude staff, refused to give me a glass of water on a sunny day during the heatwave because i wasn't a customer. I offered to buy something if they could give me some water and I was told no because I had walked in and asked for water to begin with?! Shocking..

My husband and I couldn’t remember quite why we hadn’t returned here. We’ve been visiting the area for over 12 years but as soon as we’d taken a seat we knew why. Food great, but a smile and a welcome sadly amiss! We’re Scottish - surely we can show a bit more hospitality? Think the owners are in the wrong business.

Dropped in without a reservation. Daughter had mashed tatties, sausage and gravy, good lady had lasagne and a lovely fresh salad and I chose garlic chilli chicken as a curry option. All were homemade and were delicious.

Stayed in one of the lodges for a week and used it as a base for exploring the various walks in Glen Affric. Lodge was not luxury but comfortable and well equipped and ideal for a stay with my two dogs who settled in quickly, thanks in no small way to the warm welcome from the owners who were both dog lovers. The adjacent pub is a comfortable and relaxing place to unwind after a day's walking or exploring and dogs are similarly welcome in the pub provided they are kept on the lead. Enjoyed my stay at the Slaters and Cannich and will visit again.

The only restaurant in the village of Cannich, so it has the market cornered somewhat, But does a fine range of pub-grub style options with drinks from the bar to wash down the meal. As a car-free evening out in Cannich it fits the bill very nicely.

Been out for a walk with my dog and it’s been a wet miserable day. Called into the Slaters Arms for a bite to eat and quick pint. Very warm welcome especially to the dog. Relaxed and warm atmosphere. Had a veggie pizza which was hand made. Very good indeed. Just as good if not better than pizza I have had else where. I will definitely be coming back and recommending to friends. Thank you for a great pizza and your hospitality

This is the nearest pub to the Glen Affric walks. Mine host initially seemed rather dour, but led us more cheerfully to our table, and served a decent pint of real ale. The serving staff were helpful and welcoming. The food was well cooked but basic and the dining area had all the atmosphere of a works canteen.

Called in and received two very good cups of coffee from a rather dour gentleman. At one point I thought we were invisible as we were totally ignored, not even a hello, or a small smile from the lady sitting in the lounge working at the computer and taking bookings.Perhaps it would be an idea for her to recognise that customers deserve to be given a Highland welcome even though it was a very small transaction.

6 of us stayed in 2 lodges on site with 5 dogs between us over New Year 2018/19. The lodges were spacious, clean and very cosy. They owners were very friendly and all our dogs were allowed in to the bar - (not the restaurant which is understandable.) The owner spoke to all the dogs and was lovely with them. They have 3 dogs who are also allowed in the bar - but are so well trained, they do not go into the restaurant part.

We have had a wonderful stay at slater arms holiday resort, myself and 5 other adults with 5 dogs stayed in the two cabins that where spacious, well equipped and clean with warm surroundings, the pub was very friendly and the husband and wife owners where more than welcoming, food was lovely and freshly cooked, we come from outside Edinburgh and have stayed in many places in and around Scotland and found this experience very rewarding, friendly and we had a wonderful experience, yes they have 3 dogs which are spaniels that are well trained and beautiful dogs that where no bother with our 5 dogs, owners where very caring and patient with our dogs as most are rescues, pub was clean and tidy which is all you ask for, if your not a dog person then this may not be the place for you but if you are a dog person then this is the pub to go too, the dogs are not allowed in the restaurant which is stated by the owners and the owners dogs are well trained and don’t enter that area x

The Slater's arms owners Scott and Angela allowed me to host my hen night here. They really couldn't have done any more for me and the rest of my party of which there was about 15. The food they provided was absolutely delicious literally the best chicken nuggets I've ever tasted in my life and the homemade pizza was to die for. They even let us choose our own music. Such a great pub with great staff and a superb atmosphere that's left me with fantastic memories of a brilliant night. No words to describe how greatful I am to both of them and the staff.

We were recommended this place by the hostel, it was late so we were not sure if we would be able to have a meal. Owners and staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Party of four, one had the mutton hot pot- fabulous, venison in blackcurrant sauce- very tasty, lasagne-tasty, chicken jalfrezi- spicy! Second visit the following night after a very wet 12 mile walk, we went for the last orders booking at 8pm. Two had the sausage and mash- hit the spot, scampi and chips- lovely, lamb rogan josh also tasty. Landlord very attentive and welcoming, staff really friendly and helpful. Warm surroundings, hearty and tasty food. Would recommend to all.

We all had Sunday lunch (£22), service was good and waitress was friendly. However the Roast dinner was lukewarm, the beef was far from tender and the Yorkshire pud was clearly reheated and very greasy. The bar wasn’t able to provide many of the beers/lagers on tap. Altogether a very disappointing visit. We were here last year and I still remember The Venison I had. Clearly new management/chef. Definitely give it a miss.

No food on offer other than crisps, ice cream and a meagre offering of cake, shocked as we were there for a 1pm show and had travelled over an hour thinking we would be fine for lunch at the theatre. Staff were fine, no hint of getting things done in a timely fashion and not much interaction with customers. Decor is depressing, such a big space makes it cold and echoey. Just no atmosphere whatsoever. Very disappointed and won't be back.
