The Slanted Door in South Kesteven

We only live 15 minutes away but took us a while to finally dine in this lovely place. Food was absolutely stunning, full of flavours, beautifully cooked. I had tuna, my husband beef carpacio to start with, fantastic! Only slices could be bit thiner to my liking, but still amazing. To follow we choose venison for myself and ox cheek for my husband and again, what a feast! Tender meats, genius composition on the plate. We are not dessert people so we finish on mains. Cocktails and wnies lovely too. Only one thing I couldn't get over with was carrying glasses with wine to the table without tray and hold by glass. But overall we enjoyed our evening and will be definitely back for those fantastic flavours. Great value for money. Thank you

The decor is a bit odd but the food is absolutely stunning. This is one of the best dinners we’ve eaten in the UK outside London. Beautifully presented dishes, interesting menu. We thoroughly recommend this.

We had the pleasure of visiting The Slanted Door in Stamford, Lincolnshire, for their renowned Sunday roast, and what an experience it was! Our waitress was the epitome of politeness, guiding us through the menu with genuine enthusiasm and making excellent recommendations. Her service was attentive without being overbearing, ensuring our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. The highlight, of course, was the Sunday roast beef. The beef was cooked to perfection - tender, juicy, with a beautifully crisp exterior. Accompanied by a light, fluffy Yorkshire pudding, a medley of fresh, well-cooked veg, and a rich, flavorful gravy,fantastic food at this place.wow! For me tho the experience wasn't just about the food; the staff added an extra layer of enjoyment. The barman, with his hilarious sense of humor, made ordering our drinks an entertaining affair. His quick wit and friendly banter made the wait for our meal fly by in laughter, leaving us with smiles that lasted well beyond our visit. The combination of excellent food, exceptional service, and a genuinely warm environment makes this place stand out in the Stamford area. If you're in the area and in search of a Sunday roast that combines traditional flavors with a modern touch, served with a side of laughter and politeness, look no further. This place is a gem!!! We went there for a birthday family meal and could not fault the place. The food was fantastic and very well presented. The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us. Can't wait to return!!!

We came to The Slanted Door for dinner last week and it didn’t disappoint! The amuse bouche to start was a lovely touch (excellent soup), we shared the beef carpaccio and the tuna to start - both of which were excellent! For main I had the lamb which was soft and tender with gorgeous dauphinois potatoes and my husband had the ox cheek which he loved - portion sizes were great but sadly no room for dessert! My only feedback is when we asked for hot drinks after the meal I was told you don’t sell tea - my staple drink to end a meal! Other than that wonderful evening.

Starters, chicken liver pate & whipped stilton were bland. The duck main was awful, stodgy and unappetising. Ox cheek was better but more of a winter dish than in June. There was no ambience, in fact there was so much rearranging of furniture by the staff that we felt we were in a removal van rather than a restaurant. The wine was good, thankfully. Although the waitress saying "Do you wanna taste it & do you want me to pour it?" was not good service.

We had a Sunday roast on 28-April and lucky to get a late table @3.30pm, on the first floor with a lovely window table overlooking the church. We had cocktails first, good cocktail menu and beautifully decorated cozy, relaxing bar. All 4 of us said this was the best roasts! We appreciated the home made fresh mint-sauce (amazing). Especially as we didn't have to do the cooking! Plenty of vegetables to accompany the roast,carrot,parnsip, cauliflower cheese and green beans (we asked for extra roast potatoes swell). Delicious food and drinks, we saved room for desserts; Pistachio panna cotta with white chocolate ice cream, honeycomb and ginger and treacle cake; Salted caramel brûlée, fudge ice cream and rocher fudge and cheese & biscuits. Waitresses were very attentive, service was excellent relaxing atmosphere. We only wish we lived nearer as this would be a wonderful regular treat.

First time here, and very impressed. Ate in the restaurant upstairs, but tapas bar downstairs also looked great. Good choice of beer/wine, food genuine fine dining experience.Venison dish excellent, also the monkfish. Service friendly and attentive. We will be back.

I have been here quite a few times now and every time I can only say it’s been amazing. I’ve visited just for cocktails and I’ve eaten from the fine dining menu and also a Sunday roast. All absolutely delicious and my absolute favourite place to eat ~ fabulous!!

The Slanted is the absolute number 1 best spot in Stamford - the atmosphere, the food, the drinks and the service are unbeaten. We visit regularly whether for a drink, small plates or Sunday roast. The cocktail list is always tempting, offering new specials. The small plates are just divine… and the Sunday roast, well it’s the best that you can find for miles around. It is extremely popular locally, so would always recommend booking! But you won’t find a nicer team of people who genuinely love their business! We celebrated some special occasions here too and the extra touches that were given by the team were so special and appreciated. 11 out of 10, every time!! X

What can I say but what an amazing evening we had at the Slanted Door. From the moment we walked in until leaving was incredible. The atmosphere was just fantastic! And the food was just wonderful, perfectly cooked The service by the staff was fab, down to recommending a nice wine, which it was, down to the knowledge of the menu. You can see why they are busy! I would 100% recommend

Booked for drinks and we were told we needed to leave after 45 minutes rushed out of our seats and told we needed to make way for fine diners. Not a professional vibe and I spoke to the manager bad customer service all round wouldn’t recommend!

Wow, what can I say. The Slanted door was incredible. We dined from their new dinner menu and the quality, presentation and taste was amazing. The staff were very pleasant and knowledgeable about the new menu which is a bonus nowadays. The building is presented superbly and is decorated beautifully. Easy the best restaurant in Stamford. Finally the cocktails and wine list is first class. Must have the largest wine menu in the area and reasonably priced as well. A must for anyone visiting Stamford. Book well in advance as it’s a busy vibrant place especially in the evening.

This was our first visit to The Slanted Door. We were celebrating a special occasion. The restaurant was nicely decorated. Our food was very good but our overall experience was not what we had hoped. Although we were sat upstairs a man who we took to be the owner or manager was sat downstairs making phone calls and talking almost the entire time we were in the restaurant. His voice was so loud it could be clearly heard upstairs and was intrusive. Service was slow at times and having taken an interest in the menu we asked a couple of questions about the food. Our server said she would find out but never came back with the answer. When it came to paying we asked for the bill and having got that no one returned. In the end having waited too long we went downstairs to pay. All of the issues raised could be easily addressed but we have no plans as paying guests to return to find out.

Fab restaurant has left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, beautiful presentation, wide wine and cocktails list and wonderful dessert. I recommend to everyone!

Went on Saturday evening with my friend, we been lucky enough to get a bar table as this place is always fully booked, arrived for warm professional welcome , to be honest the bar is just opposite the door few steps away , how should be everywhere, you step in you don’t need to looking for anyone, no awkward situation, they welcome you and show you the table with wine menu drink menu etc , To be honest as a restaurant manager and ex cruise ship crew I am kind of fussy for small details, this place is faultless,the Decor you can see clearly they did not try to save money to get cheap wallpaper or cheap bathroom tiles in the toilet, the restaurant clear and look after , , - Food , I believe Damian Clarke the best chef in the area , his menu is fantastic as is use to be in Ryhall wicked witch restaurant years ago , not gonna lie his name is guaranteed for fantastic food , Staff - very professional, hard worker , polite but funny , nothing too much trouble, Reasonable price , we have a great evening, Clearly the best restaurant in Stamford area , Different level than all the Turkish grill food , and restaurant, if this place was somewhere in small village in the listed building with fire place ,easily could get Michelin award or a * , thanks for the great evening guys ,

The food is beautifully presented. We had mostly fish and vegetarian dishes. Good wine list and nice surroundings. The waitress didn’t know full details about the menu but not a big problem.

After a fabulous dining experience at THE COSY CLUB in Stamford, we went on for drinks and happened upon The Slanted Door. We asked for a drinks table and were seated by waitresses at a tall table just inside the door on the left. Since it was my husband’s birthday, we decided to have cocktails and began to peruse the menu. Five minutes later, the door flew open and in stormed an agitated man who marched to the bar. He rounded on us and shouted at us across the diners, ‘You can’t sit there!’ We stared at him thinking he was a customer, however when he continued to berate us for sitting on ‘A table just for dining’, we realised to our shock that he was a member of staff! Then, after I had asserted that we had been seated there by his staff, he continued to insist we were in the wrong as his staff ‘Didn’t know we shouldn’t sit there!’. Worse still, he went on to put it to the public vote and announced loudly to our fellow customers, ‘Does anyone mind these people sitting here?’. Puzzled and surprised, everyone stared at him and agreed that we were quite welcome to our table! However, by this time, we had drawn the conclusion that we certainly didn’t want it and wouldn’t be staying! The man in question was informed that he had been most rude and lacked customer service skills, he didn’t care one bit. He seemed perfectly happy that the establishment didn’t need new customers, obviously they have enough already? Needless to say, if you want a relaxed and happy evening out this is not the place for you! My husband and I, along with our two adult daughters took our custom elsewhere and continued our fabulous evening at THE WINEBAR in Stamford, that was very welcoming and enjoyable 😁

We were visiting Stamford for a weekend and ate in a range of restaurants and, while all were mostly very nice, The Slanted Door was easily our favourite. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, and they made a real effort to have a real chat with us. This definitely helped with the lovely cocktails! I don’t know if it’s the ingredients or the alcohol they use, but they really were a cut above the (many) others we had over our weekend. Food was also exquisite. Beautifully presented with flavour to match. Both of us left feeling really satisfied. If I’m ever back in Stamford I’ll definitely be returning, and I wouldn’t mind trying the roast, too.

What can I say. Fantastic food, amazing atmosphere in a truly lovely town. This restaurant ticks every box. Fantastic wine list.
