The Skewer in Bedford

There's nothing like breaking the tiresome routine from time to time and we felt like visiting this Turkish restaurant today and have lunch. I can sum up my review and say everything was excellent, from second one a very attentive and friendly waiters, a lunch menu I can recommend unreservedly. I tried lamb kleftiko and my wife had chicken for seconds and taramasalata and babaganush for starters, absolutely delicious. The desserts were to die for look at the photos. I could not help it and we had the full selection to try, I cannot recommend one in particular, all of them were outstanding. Give yourself a treat.

Unpleasant Experience Due to Rudeness of the waiter (the bald one) I recently dined at this restaurant with my family and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience with one of the waiters. Despite arriving at 8pm with the restaurant closing at 10pm, the waiter insisted we order quickly, stating falsely that the restaurant would close soon. When I requested the dessert menu, he initially claimed there wasn't much to order, making me uncomfortable. Only after insisting did he finally provide the menu. Throughout the experience, I felt rushed and uneasy in front of my family. To add to the frustration, the waiter didn't offer drinks after we finished ordering. I observed his polite demeanor with other customers, which contrasted sharply with the rudeness he displayed towards us. The manager had assured us of a later closing time, so the urgency was unnecessary. This experience left a negative impression on my family, and I hope the management addresses such behavior to maintain a welcoming atmosphere for all patrons.

Disappointing Dining Experience. I recently dined at this restaurant with my family and unfortunately had a disappointing experience with the waiter, who happened to be a short, bald gentleman. We felt rushed throughout the entire meal as he didn't even ask us for drinks. Despite being told to quickly order due to an impending closure, it turned out to be a false claim. What added to the frustration was observing others receiving better treatment from the same waiter. We had to approach the manager ourselves to request basic things like water. This experience left me feeling embarrassed in front of my family, and it's disheartening that we had to initiate such simple requests. Because of this waiter we will not go there again. In conclusion, the waiter's attitude needs a serious improvement to ensure a more pleasant dining experience for all customers.

DON’T EAT THERE ! Had a birthday meal at this place, booked up the time and date few weeks back. Come in today for the meal had a booked table got welcomed ect. Was told the table is for us till close was a complete lie! We came at 6pm and got told we have to leave at 8 as there’s another group coming at 8:30pm which was a shock as you said otherwise at the entrance. Everyone felt like we being kicked out and not wanted. Food was ok, but defo shouldn’t be that expensive, one of our family member got food poising! Everyone was worried and it turn out into a worry situation! Family member was constantly sick, sweating, very pale and had very bad stomach! We didn’t leave at 8:30 but after 9pm and still no sight of the “another group coming that was booked for 8:30pm” told the members of stuff our person is very unwell and all they had to say is “we will take that dish of the menu for tonight” that was not very professional of them! They never said bye to us or we are sorry for this taking place! How can you only say this and not be worried at all about your customers! Also was overcharged on the service! Had to point it out! Overall very bad experience, never going there again absolute rubbish! Defo reporting this place!

Good service and tasty food in a lovely setting. A taste of Turkish cuisine and plenty of choices.

Food in was great.service was great Untill we ask for service charge to be taken of bill (only five people.) Was told if service charge was taken off the server would have to pay it with there from there wages.. Was also told that the servers are not aloud to keep there own tips.

One of the best Turkish restaurants I've been to in the region.

The food is amazing and tastes great. Love the staff there, they always interact with us and my kid. My son loves to eat here and loves the attention he gets. One change I have noticed is that recently the portions of rice have become smaller and I feel like it is a little less tasty than before. Also you used to get loads of bread for free, now you get a bowl of fried pita chips, which is still nice but I really loved the bread you used to get. I will ask for bread next time, even if it is paid for.

The decor is a lovely gold and black. Used to be called Nazar. Very fresh food was well presented and tasted fresh

Now known as Nazaar, it’s on the Bedford high street (not sure why it’s still called Skewer?!). Anyway… service, outstanding, food was insanely good!!!! I loved every bite of my meal and I know my friends loved theirs too. Was manic, and constantly busy, which was great to see. Highly recommend booking way in advance.

Always liked this restaurant but to be honest I’m tired of getting wrong things. I placed an order today and instead of three triangles with pistachios I received three completely different cakes which I don’t like. Nobody even bothered to call me and ask if I’m ok with that. Last time as well, instead of ice cream With the kids meal we received a cake.

Bit bland and very pricy. Portion size quite small too.

Bingo😍😍😍 Love The Skewer lounge / Nazar Restaurant ... The new interior seriously looks amazing. A mesmerising menu, with enough choices to satisfy the most adventurous. Amazing Starter menu - HOT MEZE PLATTER - halloumi cheese,beef sausage, falafel,calamari and sigara boregi 🧆 🤩🤩🤩. The main courses were truely best - 1. SARAM CHICKEN BEYTI 2. MIX GRILL 3. ALI NAZIK CHICKEN 🍗4. ALI NAZIK LAMB🥩 The tenderest kebabs I've ever tasted. Will be back again soon. Thanks Alot RAUF and all other staffs for the amazing hospitality and love 🤩🤩😍😍

At the beginning we were a bit confused as the name these days seem to be the Nazar Lounge, at least that is what it says outside. Inside the menu still says The Skewer Lounge. Delicious Turkish food, quite decent portions, options for vegetarians and good service. We had a great evening!

Lockdown refreshed and renamed as the Nazar Lounge, this restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. Polite staff and even better food. We had 3 courses, each lovely. Even though I was full I still went for the dessert (as you do!) and for me it was the best part. The baklava was beautiful, lovely and crispy filo, but not like sandpaper like it is often served elsewhere. Right amount of syrup so that it wasn't sickly. Will definitely go back. Have already recommended it by word of mouth. If you like Turkish you won't be disappointed.

Delicious food and a stylish, relaxed ambiance. Halal as well which means my wife can enjoy it too. Coped really well with our big gathering and were incredibly friendly and helpful. Just need to sort out the smoke alarm.

food was average and overpriced they got weird when we didnt want to pay the £30+ service charge and bare in mind we spent £350, wouldn’t go again, the only positive thing was the service provided by pasha

Myself and my 4 friends went to try this place out for the 1st time . Terrible customer service the waitress was so rude and kept pushing us to order our food quickly as they needed the table free soon. Food was not nice at all. Would not recommend at all

Food was excellent, staff were lovely, although they did mess up and our starters and mains arrived all at once, it all got very confusing, who's sides belonged to which meal but we muddled through. The food was soo good it didn't ruin the night. Staff offered us a drink to apologise. We will return.

An absolute gem of a restaurant hiding in full sight of the high Street....! I highly recommend this to you, great friendly staff.... Out of this world food... A fantastic atmosphere..... Just fabulous, will, be back.. Again and again..!

Only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is the 10% service charge. Would recommend telling customers when the waiter seats you. The food is really tasty and it's beautifully presented. Staff are very friendly and decor is modern and clean. We would come back to eat here

I went here for my birthday, and was extremely disappointing, hated the food, there rice is microwave race instead of freshly cooked rice, the only nice thing is the cocktails, staff aren’t welcoming, would never go back here

Atmosphere is great. Restaurant is presented wonderfully. The bathroom is great. Manager was very kind. Some waiting staff didn't know of what they were doing and weren't super helpful, that area could've been better as they did not help with the cake or bring things immediately when asked. Portions aren't massive, but you feel satisfied with the amount of food. Would recommend.

Made a booking, was ten minutes late (five minutes inside waiting to speak to be acknowledged) and told bluntly that the table had been given to someone else. Then a very high handed let me see what I can do. Have been a long time customer of this place but no more. There are better places to eat where you feel valued.

My wife, Donna, and I found The Skewer by chance and we are ready glad we did. We were treated with a friendly smile, given a great table and served with politeness and fun. The food was fantastic, beautifully cooked and presented. The restaurant is classy and comfortable. The prices are what you would expect for great food and drink. Really amazing spot. Food was so on point, especially the lamb ribs and my babe had chicken bayti . I strongly recommend it. Pasher was really friendly as well. Nice and attentive staff members.

We loved nazar before it had the make over , this was our first time going after the refurbishment , it took over 20 minutes for a cocktail, the food has changed it wasn’t as nice as before hand . The price has increased massively , my VIRGIN COCKTAIL ( non alcoholic) was £7.75 when I looked on the bill !! Absolutely disgusting price for a non alcoholic drink . Unfortunately I won’t be going back

Lovely refurbished establishment from before. Interior is very posh and luxe. Only thing was music was way too loud so having dinner with friends you really need to shout over the music. Otherwise food was delicious, definitely recommend the mocktails! Service was good initially but as the place started filling up, our party of 3 were somehow neglected as had to ask 4 times to get a jug of water and order our desserts! Will probably go back but not too soon as still nursing the sore throat from shouting over the music.

Visited this restaurant for the first time. Service was very good and enjoyed the meal. Main courses were ample. Disappointed that the Turkish coffee did not come with some Turkish delight (though Turkish delight came with the bill). The Baklava was a little disappointing. WIGA? Yes I would go again.

2nd takeaway meal from here. Cannot praise them enough. Absolutely divine, tasty food. I am a huge fan of Mousaka, and if a restaurant can get this right then there is hope, and then hope is turned into lip smacking joy. Oh my goodness this food is fantastic. The only down side was it could have been hotter, but then again it’s cold outside so not surprising really. Already looking forward to our next one. Cannot recommend Nazar highly enough

Amazing food as per.. service was great and attentive and friendly.. was last night of the 50% discount tonight and the place was full to capacity!! But staff were doing their best to deal with the busy night. Service took a little longer than usual but was to be expected.. a few more staff would have helped the workload but was excellent none the less.. the food was cooked to perfection and thoroughly enjoyed it.. will be one of my go to places in future.. thanks for a lovely eve.

As mentioned by others we were charged evening prices at lunchtime which meant we paid more than half advertised prices and they claimed more from the government. Surely that is illegal. Children of staff running around and being really noisy. Loud music meant I had to put tissue in my ears as we were sat right next to the speaker! My partner's food was fine but nothing better than the local kebab shop and wrong food arrived for me. By the time the right thing arrived my partner had finished his. Drinks prices are extortionate and it was hard to get staff's attention if you needed to. Would definitely not visit again.

Fantastic food and good ambiance

Terrible service. Charged us the dinner time price at lunch without advising then tried to blame it on us for coming when it was busy without booking. Told us to get out and never come again! Avoid this restaurant at all costs!

I'm really surprised with positive comments for this restaurant. It's basic copy of Turkish restaurant. Menu seems with lots of choice but is more or less same staff, table's are too small, staff unpleasant, food overpriced. I been charged dinner price in lunch time and when I asked waitress way, she told me because is hot weather and you paying half price anyway...🤔. My advice is to avoid it, there is much better restaurants in Bedford.

The Nazar is a traditional Turkish restaurant with a wide ranging menu. It is located in the centre of Bedford. We currently live in challenging times. The size of the restaurant makes social distancing easy which is comforting. Service is attentive. Buying wine by the glass is always a lottery if the bottle has been open too long. We fell foul this time but it's the first time in several visits. Thus the four stars on this occasion.

they charged me 5 pounds extra. kind of cheap for a fancy restaurant like that. price for lunch and dinner are diffrent, I ate lunch they get dinner price which was 5 pounds more. when I arrived I saw another custmer was fighting with them, that was the reason 😂. price of drinks are high also. £2.5 for a diet coke!!!

Food is amazing! Pitta bread on the house and free shots because their tills were down which didn't even add any inconvenience. Hand sanitizer on entrance and felt very safe 😊

Great Turkish food I usually get the chicken adana on my own. Or a platter if it is with my friends. Food is very well presented in a large plate. Chicken and rice and salad compliment each other then you have the sauce to add more flavour. Sitting area is nice andwell Spaced out and not cramped like some other places. So if you want to have something light not to heavy this can be the place. I would be coming back for sure and would recommend.
