Amazing Sunday roast for the price! Hearty portions that filled us up for the entire day. The fish and chips were also perfectly crispy and fresh. Highly recommend!

The pub had a really good atmosphere, and the landlord was extremely friendly and accommodating. The food we had for our Christmas dinner was extremely nice, and more than exceeded what I was expecting.

Friendly pub with a mixture of clientele. A number of screens to watch the sport and several areas to chill depening on your preferences. Jim the manager is great and likes to chat to all. Bar staff very friendly and the food is great!

Nipped in to whet our whistle while exploring Bedford centre. Never been to the town before. Cracking little pub with bags of atmosphere- even at 2pm on a winter Thursday. The Abbot was well kept and hit the spot, the welcome good, and a tasty plate of chips with chicken strips with katsu curry for a fiver staved off tummy rumbles. Well done team, keep it up.

A nice pub. The wait on food is long but it’s worth it. The price is reasonable as well considering the portion. The food tastes nice and the waitresses were polite as well. I really wish they had the pork tacos in stock though 🥹

Went for lunch to celebrate two birthdays. The vegetarians in our party liked their food very much. The staff were very helpful and accommodating to our needs. Nice relaxed atmosphere.

What a great place this pub is its a lovely old building . The food was delicious & the staff were friendly. I had the gammon & eggs which was cooked to perfection. I’ll definitely be back to eat in here again.

I visited The Ship for the first time in a while yesterday as I’d heard it was under new management and was keen to check it out. Jim and the team gave me a warm welcome, and with nice cask ales and plenty of screens to watch the sport, I was suitably impressed. I look forward to returning soon!

Sorry to say that I won’t be back, staff were a bit hostile. No need to respond to my review as I’ve had a look at your other responses, which are quite defensive instead of simply being apologetic and taking advice on board.

My husband and I visited and were treated very well, we will certainly visit again. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was great

Been coming to the ship for the last 5 years couple times each month for lunch/drinks/dinner/football etc always great service and a genuinely nice pub and atmosphere.

I love coming to this pub the service here is always so good, in particular Shanice; lovely girl always goes above and beyond to look after me and my friends!

One of my favourite pubs in Bedford, service is always impeccable, one girl in particular quite young dark hair( Shanice) thank you for taking care of us, we will be back because of you!

Food was lovely especially the fish

Don’t usually write reviews but the server/bartender was really rude. Young girl, darker hair, maybe Asian. Just really rude and dismissive, no social or hospitality skills whatsoever. I understand feeling tired or drained after work (also work at a bar) but she had no reason to snap at us when we tried to order. Won’t be coming back because of her!! :)

Got yelled rudely by a member of staff (old guy in glasses) for taking a chair from a pre-booked table during Euro Finals. Same message he could have delivered in a polite manner - had no problem giving the chair back to the table. There were a few people that took chairs from that table, but he decided to be rude with me (the only female). May be for future the pub can secure more chairs for such big events. Very unacceptable behavior, could not cope with tears. It was supposed to be a great night!

Thoughly recommend the Ship. Tasty food. Excellent and friendly service. Lovely atmosphere. We had two light dishes with haloumi chips and rosemary salted fries. So delicious and not over priced. They also have vegetarian , vegan, gluten free and senior menus in addition to substantial all day menu. Also dog friendly.

Harsh of me to rate the atmosphere as average as I was in there early and it was dead. Still I got to sit in a bay window with my pint in peace. So I'm upgrading it! Didn't have any food so only 1 star. Green king are not normally bad at food. Beer was expensive but in good condition. Here or the weatherpoons? Here all day long. Lovely pub.

The food was completely awful. It was the worse food you could ever imagine, the roast dinner was a pre frozen delight ,no potatoe were roasted or vegetables topped and tailed. The whole concept of Sunday Roast was lost here.

Had a lovely experience here - a small hidden away pub in the outskirts of Bedford Town Centre. Staff were polite and attentive. We ordered 2 Katsu Curries and a Side Salad. Both were large portions and were delicious! Lovely visit!

Nice place, good atmosphere Service is so slow. Its Christmas, have 10 people behind the bar serving. Waited 25mims to be served. Not good enough any time, let alone xmas!

The Ship is a lovely Greene Kingpub situated in Central Bedford not far from the River Great Ouse. We had tasty wraps with chicken bacon and avo. Beers consisted of an Icebreaker, Peroni and an unusual Holy Ship Ale. Pleasantly busy.

Xmas menu food was amazing! Nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed it. Nice place for a small work do.

I never do a review on a restaurant visit. However I think I needed to this time. Went for a meal with 7 people. The service was fine and friendly and the atmosphere was lovely and calm and inviting. The food was terrible. All the food was frozen and fried. The meat was tough and my turkey was cheap turkey roll. The mash potato tasted like mash mixed with water from a dried powder mix. My husband and friend had the pie which he said was nice but everything else was really not great. If you like a frozen fried dinner then this is your place to go. Such a shame. Gluten free option not great either.

Small plates much better before new menu. The only slider is a chicken strip broken in half. Loads of lettuce, to disguise the lack of meat. the side of fries was quite meagre and mostly bits.

Great food, friendly staff, nice place, quick service. I like being able to order through the app and they bring it straight to you.

The staff are all really friendly and welcoming. The pub is clean and very pretty with lots of hanging baskets of flowers and a beautiful old fireplace. I would definitely recommend The Ship and am looking forward to my next visit. *UPDATED REVIEW *So unfortunately this review was true a year ago however we have been to the ship probably twice in the last few months and I’m very sad to say it’s gone downhill a lot, there seems to be all new staff now and non of the original staff left, the food is no where near as nice as it was before and you have to wait a really long time, me and my son waited an hour for the food when it was really quiet I think we were the only table eating on arrival then a few more tables came in but it was in no way busy. Also they didn’t have half the items on the menu and kept coming back to tell us they didn’t have this or that, my son had a sirloin steak which he asked to be cooked medium rare and it came out well done and tough, the staff are friendly but not professional and it’s badly run, the girl behind the bar didn’t tell me half the menu was missing when I said we were going to have lunch and most of the things we ordered weren’t available. It’s such a shame as we loved going to this pub as a family for meals but I won’t be going back anymore.

Stopped here for an early Friday dinner. Pub busy in the garden but plenty of seating inside and out and we wanted to be inside. Dog friendly which was great. Staff helpful and friendly and good service. Had soft drinks, katsu curry and Mac n cheese - tasty food and very reasonable price. Don't pay for parking - just enter your reg on the screen by the bar and it's free.

had a meal there it was ok but nothing to shout about wouldn't go there again I have been to other pubs that are better

We had an amazing experience at The Ship! The staff is incredibly friendly and absolutely adores dogs. They made my furry friend feel so welcome. The burgers here are absolutely delicious, with juicy patties and fresh ingredients. What really impressed me was when the chef graciously prepared grilled chicken meat for my dog. It's clear they genuinely care about their four-legged visitors. The pub has a cozy atmosphere that adds to the overall charm. I highly recommend this place to dog owners and burger enthusiasts alike. Five stars well-deserved!

Firstly I would like to give a big thumbs up for the friendly staff. They were very welcoming. Thank you. Now to the knitty gritty. We attended as a party of 4 during a Sunday lunchtime. Having decided what to order I was informed that you didn't have strawberry puree for our chosen cocktails. Whilst placing our order for the food I was informed you didn't have fish for the fish and chips so we went with the scampi, oh and by the way, the mushy peas are normal peas as, yes that's right, you didn't have any in stock. We returned to our table and after ten or so minutes a member of staff informed us that the 2 vegetarian Katsu Curry's we're off the menu as you ran out. How can you possibly run a business if the kitchen is so poorly stocked. Our food eventually arrived approximately 50 minutes later despite the pub wasn't busy at all. The presentation of my mix grill was good however looks deceive. The chicken and gammon looked like it was pre-cooked and then microwaved. I dread to think how long my food was hanging around in the abyss because when it arrived it was stone cold. My beer which was in the sun was warmer. This experience was unacceptable beyond belief and will not be returning to your establishment again which is a great shame. Please don't bother giving an explanation or apology. You simply cannot stock your kitchen or cook food to a satisfactory standard. Shambles

Went on a Saturday, toilets disgusting like a pond in the gents, the ladies was the same apparently. Didn't have most off the beer on draught and the cleanliness was well below par tables sticky,empty glasses everywhere just a poor show.

Little to no atmosphere in this place as they were blasting the F1 commentary through the sound system. Staff were rude as well.

Having been a loyal customer for many years, hiring the function room and enjoying many a meal, we returned after some time. It was clear from the outset things had changed for the worse. After waiting 20 minutes for a coffee and enquiring the bar maid apologised that she had completely forgot as she got caught up chatting. An hour after ordering food I was told just a few minutes, after 2 hours I asked for a refund and left

Far too long to wait for food (1hr 30 mins) when enquired several times about our food was told if we complained again we would be asked to leave in end we asked for a refund and cancelled our order reluctantly given Shame as had heard good things

Nice pub, but if they're going to encourage people to order through the Greene King app they should do a better job of fulfilling those orders without needing someone to go up to the bar and nudge them along 15 minutes after drinks order placed. I'd say don't bother with the app unless you have a good reason for not being able to order in person at the bar.

Very good but noisy Food good. The only down side there was no guest beer on tap only Abbot or IPA.

Parking fine received after spending 100s of pounds in this pub that day. Greene King are money grabbing to allow a private company to do this to its customers in their car park…

Great for a pint and a Sunday lunch, service was excellent by the two bar staff who served us. They were so helpful and patiently sorted out whatever we needed. Nice old style pub inside with log fires, Definitely recommend this pub.

Best Sunday lunch I’ve had in a long time. Tender turkey, properly cooked veg, homemade Yorkshire and amazing roasties! Plus they do childrens portions and service was excellent. Would definitely recommend.
